Zephyr woke up on a hard surface. Where was she? What is she doing here? Then it all cane flooding back to her.
She looked around to see that the others were still sleeping. Zephyr laid back down and got lost in her thoughts.
She wondered about how much her parents miss her. Did they even realize they were gone? What if there were, like, fake versions of them from the future or somethibg to take their place while they were stuck in the past?
It made sense...sort of. How would she even explain it to her parents? We traveled back in time and met your younger selves doesn't sound like a good cover up. They'd be punished for a week probably.
What Zephyr would really miss are the dragons. This is the first time she's interacted with them in, well...forever. The feel of flying made her heart soar. Now she knew why her parents loved it so much. The feel of the wind against your cheeks, the feeling of lying overwhealmingnyou and filling your heart with pure joy.
Zephyr smiled. Yeah, she's miss that a lot. And dragons weren't coming back anytime soon. Maybe they'd show up for Snoggletog again? That was also highly unlikely.
A yawn came from across the room. Zephyr turned and saw Hiccup waking up.
"You're up early." Hiccup told her.
"Well, today's the day we go back home so..." Zephyr shrugged.
Hiccup nodded, "I understand. It's pretty exciting. You get to be reunited again after a very long time. I wouldn't blame you if you woke up in the middle of the night ready to go."
Zephyr laughed lightly. She pulled out some of the left over food them had from last night and handed some to her father.
"Thanks." Hiccup smiled, then began to eat.
They talked for awhile and soon, everyone was awake. They all took their time to eat and Nuffink had recovered a but from his cold. He wasn't sneezing or coughing anymore, but still had a runny nose, which he had to wipe constantly.
"Can we take one last flight? Together?" Zephyr asked.
"I don't see why not." Astrid turned to Hiccup, "You ok with it?"
"I'm up for it." Hiccup hopped onto Toothless.
Zephyr climbed onto Evergem, "Come on girl, let's do this. One more time."
Evergem squawked then took off, not far behind from Hiccup, Toothless, and Nuffink. Darryah and Astrid swooped by and Zephyr laughed. They flew up into the orange sky and above the clouds. Toothless roared with delight. The did a dive back down toward the water then pulled back up, did a few more circles around the island, then landed back at the mouth of the cave.
Zephyr was close to tears as she hugged Evergem, "I'm really going to miss you..."
"You'll be able to see her again...in the future if nothing happened to her. She'll be older than you, but you'll still be able to see each other." Hiccup told her.
Darryah and Nuffink looked at each other then looked at Zephyr. The dragons were gone. All in the Hidden World. Maybe one day, when dragons return, she'll be able to see her again.
As they walked deeper and deeper into the cave, the sound of rushing water bacame louder and louder. Then they found the underground river.
Zephyr turned to her parents, "Thank you. For everything."
"It was our pleasure." Astrid hugged her and the younger two, "You guys are a wonderful group of siblings. I'm glad Hiccup and I got to meet you."
Zephyr smiled.
"We'll miss you." Darryah said as she pulled back from the hug.
"You'll see use in the future." Hiccup reminded her.
"I know." Darryah smiled.
Zephyr plucked a dahlia petal, closed her eyes and made her wish.
Take us home...take us home..
A soft blue glow began to fill the room. Zephyr opened her eyes and dropped the petal into the water. Soon, the cavern burst into a multitude of colors, a blinding light surround them. With one last goodbye, Zephyr, Nuffink, and Darryah...disappeared.
And Hiccup and Astrid found themselves back on Berk, remembering none of it.
...
"Zephyr..."
Huh...that voice sounds familiar...
"Zephyr, come on, wake up."
Zephyr's eyes fluttered open. She rolled over onto her side and saw her dad peering over her. She was lying in bed.
"D-dad?" She said groggily, "Wh-what are you doing here? Where's Toothless...Stormfly...?"
"They're all in the Hidden World honey. Where they've always been." Hiccup responded. He pulled the fur covers up his daughter, "We found you out in the woods asleep. You must have been exploring pretty hard out there."
"Mhm..." Zephyr yawned. She was tired...and confused. Was everything that had happened, was it just a dream? At least she didn't have to come up with an excuse for why they were gone for so long...
"Get some rest. You look really tired. Nuffink has a little bit of a cold and Darryah already sleeping."
"M'kay..." She said tiredly. Hiccup kissed the top of her head. "Sweet dreams."
And Zephyr did have sweet dreams. Dreams of her flying with dragons. Up high in the air where no one goes...
And in the dim moonlight of her room, her bag contained a sketch of her, Nuffink, and Darryah...and a light blue dahlia flower. It shimmered softly but without the strong powerful glow. Then in a blink, it was gone.
