I wasn't originally going to do Wing it Like Witches but this idea came to me in a dream and I figured "Why not". So, here you go.
Boscha entered the Treasure Shack. Inside, Luz was asleep with Amity laying on her. Amity's head laid perfectly on Luz's chest, listening to her heartbeat and Luz had her arms wrapped around Amity. It was a sweet moment and Boscha thought it was cute. The one thing she couldn't understand was... why was Luz dressed in an otter onesie? Amity slowly opened her eye and saw Boscha.
"Did I... interrupt something?" Boscha said trying not to laugh.
"I-I-I can explain!" Amity said.
"I'm listening."
"I... I can't explain."
"Is this something you guys do often?"
Amity's silence answered her question. Luz realized that Amity wasn't in her arms anymore and opened her eyes. She looked at Amity and Boscha.
"Hi, Boscha!" Luz said, not caring that they were caught cuddling.
"You know what? I don't even want to know. I just came here to grab my ball. I have to get a little practice in before Grudgby season starts tomorrow."
"Grudgby season's tomorrow?!" Luz said excitedly.
"Luz, why do you look so happy?" Amity asked.
"Well, Ami, I am thinking about trying out for the team."
"Uh, Luz. Don't you remember the last time you played Grudgby?" Boscha said.
"I still don't see how that was a problem." Luz said.
"Luz, you were almost killed!"
"It's not like my heads fallen off... recently."
"Well, I won't stop you from trying out... but I definitely don't advise it." Boscha said.
She grabbed her ball and left to go practice. Luz hugged Amity from behind.
"Want to go back to cuddling with your otter?" Luz asked.
Amity jumped up and Luz caught her.
"That answer your question?" Amity said, "Let's go you cuddly little otter."
Boscha walked to the Grudgby field and dribbled the ball a little. She really didn't want Luz to be on the team. Nothing against the halfling, she was really good, Boscha just didn't want Luz to get hurt like that again. Boscha remembers that day vividly.
It was the championship game, the last game of the season. Boscha, Kat, and Luz were going against St. Epiderm's team. The score was tied with seven seconds left. Boscha was determined to win, she just became the team captain a few weeks ago when Amity quit. She tried to tell Amity that everything was fine. Boscha was lucky that it was only a minor injury that only took two weeks to heal, Amelia on the other hand was going to be out for the rest of the season. The ball was released and Luz grabbed it. She ran towards the goal and a large blade came out. Luz threw the ball as the blade came down and it went through the goal at the last second. Hexside was the winner. Boscha and Kat celebrated until they noticed something. Luz wasn't with them. The crowd was quiet and Amity came running on the field. Boscha saw Luz's body and Luz's head about three feet away. Amity ran up towards Luz's head and got on her knees. She grabbed Luz's head.
"Luz! Please say something! Please!" Amity said with tears running down her face.
"A-Amity?" Luz said, "W-what happened."
"Luz! You're alive, thank Titan! I'm taking you to the healer's right now!" Amity said.
Boscha came over and grabbed Luz's body while Amity held Luz's head close to her chest, as if she was afraid of something happening if she let go. The healer said she would be fine once the head and body were reattached, but had the possibility to fall off every now and then.
Boscha didn't even realize that she dropped the ball. How Luz survived was beyond her but even if she was alive that memory stuck with her. She understood why Amity quit, when the game was over, she thought about doing that too. Luz told her that she wasn't allowed to quit. They gave Luz the trophy after her head was reattached.
"She wants to rejoin the team, doesn't she?"
Boscha turned around and saw Amelia.
"Yep. I really don't want her to though. Don't get me wrong, she's an incredible player but I don't want her to have another accident. What if this time she doesn't make it?"
"Boscha, it wasn't your fault."
"I'm the team captain. Everything that happened that game was my fault."
"Boscha, there was no way to prevent Luz from doing that. I'm starting to see why her parents are always so nervous for her." Amelia said.
"You've met her parents?"
"I hope you don't. They are terrifying when it comes to protecting her."
"Wonder what they thought when Luz showed up with a detachable head."
"I don't want to know."
Luz was in the dining hall with her mother. Her father walked in and sat down at the table. He took off the mask and looked at Luz.
"So, how was your day, my Darling Princess?" He asked.
"It was... good. I-uh... I want to tell you guys something." Luz said.
"What is it, Mija?" Camila asked.
"I... want to start playing Grudgby again."
Her parents were silent for a minute before her father started to speak.
"No."
"Dad, I-"
"Do I need to remind you of what happened last time?"
"But dad-"
"You were lucky that you are my daughter because it makes you powerful. If you weren't my child, you would've been killed."
"Eda can survive being decapitated."
"The Owl Lady is a grown up. Her magic is strong enough to keep her alive when losing a limb. Child magic isn't strong enough to do that, it's the reason I hate that sport. It's dangerous and could kill someone."
"I'm capable of surviving it, so why can't I play?"
"Mija, think about it through our eyes. The sight of our child being hurt is terrifying."
"I'm not some baby that you can protect for the rest of your lives! I'm going to be the Emperor one day and that means I'm going to have enemies! You can't always protect me!"
"Watch me." Belos said.
Luz got up and ran to her room. They heard the sound of a door slam shut and just looked at each other.
"Do you think we made the right decision?" Camila asked.
"She'll thank me later."
Luz paced back and forth in her room.
"I can't believe this! I fought a supposedly extinct species, Grom, and several other dangers but I can't play a high school sport." She flopped down on her bed, "Can you believe them? Violet? Hello, Isles to Palisman."
Violet responded by flying on to Luz's dresser to continue her nap. Luz sat up and walked over to her bathroom. She looked into the mirror.
"I'm going to play again. I don't care what they say."
The next day, Boscha was on her way to the field. She obviously knew the usual people would be there. She went over the list she had.
"Amelia, Kat, Skara. Those three are usually there... W-Willow? Why is she trying out?" Boscha looked at the name bellow and got her answer, "You are so dead."
She got to the field and saw the five girls there. She walked up to Luz and pulled her away from the others. Once she was sure they were out of ear shot, she laid into Luz.
"Did you really have Willow try out for Grudgby?!" She whispered loudly.
"What makes you think I forced her to?" Luz said, innocently.
"Because I know you! Luz, what were you thinking?!"
"I was thinking that you and your crush could bond over Grudgby!"
"I am about to hit you so hard your head will, literally, start to spin." Boscha said, "Come on, it's time for try outs. You're lucky I don't use your head as the ball."
Overall, tryouts went pretty good, but Boscha decided that they should have a practice game. It was a very close game. Luz, Willow, and Amelia had the lead. Boscha, Kat, and Skara were down by one point. If Luz gets one point then they win. Amity arrived a few minutes ago and Luz decided to showboat most of the game. The ball was ejected and Luz and Boscha jumped for it. Boscha grabbed the ball... or what she thought was the ball. Unknown to her, Luz and her team had a trick up their sleeves.
"Hey, Boscha, why don't you take a look at what you grabbed." Luz said.
Boscha looked down and saw that it wasn't the ball, but Luz's head.
"Luz!?"
Boscha looked and saw Luz's body throw the ball into the goal. She looked back at the head, who was smiling.
"Like my little trick. I told you humans can't do magic like witches, but they can do a thing called sleight of hand. You focus on one thing, while something is happening somewhere else. Example, me replacing my head with the ball." Luz said.
Boscha gave Luz's body her head and reattached it to her body. Amity came over and gave Luz a kiss.
"Meet me in our hideout... and bring the otter suit." She said before leaving.
Soon everyone except for Luz, Boscha, Amelia, and Willow left. Boscha walked over to Willow.
"You did pretty good Willow. You... want a place on the team?" Boscha asked, hoping Willow wouldn't notice her blush.
"As much fun as this was... I don't think it's for me." She said.
"What about you Luz? You want your old position back?" Boscha said.
Luz was about to open her mouth when someone spoke up.
"Luz."
Luz slowly turned around and saw the one person she didn't want to see. She stood there, completely silent, her brain had stopped working. Boscha's brain on the other hand had one thought.
"Luz, w-why does Emperor Belos know your name?" Boscha asked nervously.
"I'm going to assume you're Mrs. Triplet's daughter. Boscha right?" Boscha nodded, "Your mother knows your name, right?"
"Y-yes, why?"
"Well, just like your mother, I to know my daughter's name."
"D-daughter?" She looks at Luz, "He's... he's your father?!"
"Luz, what did I tell you about playing Grudgby?"
"That I wasn't allowed to. B-but I'm-"
"I'm not done. I've thought about what you said and... you're right."
"What?" Luz said.
"You're right, I can't always protect you. You will make enemies; you won't always have me around to protect you. So maybe, just maybe, this sport isn't as dangerous. You're really good at it. So, if you want to play it... I'll allow it."
"You mean it!" Luz thought about it for a minute, "You know, maybe you had a point too. This game is dangerous and while I am good at it, I might not get so lucky next time. Boscha, as much as I want to be a part of the team again, I'll have to decline... for now."
"You really owe me an explanation sometime." Boscha said.
"But of course. I'll give you a fascinating tale of my life, someday." Luz said, putting up her royal voice.
"Come, Luz. It's time to go home. We'll have to go through a secluded area to avoid detection."
"See you guys, later! I have to go get dressed for some quality cuddling time with Amity." Luz said, "By the way Boscha, if you tell anyone about what you just saw, you'll be wishing for petrification."
I wasn't originally going to have Boscha learn about Luz yet, but I figured it would work here.
