Booth took Max and Gracie on a quick grocery store run to get milk, eggs, bread, cereal, bananas and something for dinner. As they were crossing the parking lot they could hear the sound of ringing bells when they got closer to the entrance they saw a man wearing a Santa hat, and ringing a bell, he was standing next to a red kettle.
"Daddy, why is that man standing next to a pot ringing a bell?" Booth smiled, knowing that the bell ringer had heard Gracie's question.
"Gracie, he's a Salvation Army bell ringer, every holiday season he and other bell ringers stand on the sidewalk usually in front of a store and ring their bells with the hope that it'll catch people's attention and they will put money in their red kettles. The money collected is used to help families in need get food, a place to stay and sometimes even Christmas gifts."
"Oh…"
Booth took out his wallet and got two five-dollar bills and folded then in fourths, then he handed one to Gracie and the other to Max. He watched as the both walked up to the kettle and dropped the folded bills through the slot one at a time.
"Thank you. Merry Christmas!"
"You're welcome. Merry Christmas!"
Max and Gracie walked back to Booth and the three of them headed in the store.
A/N:I grew up in the Midwest where the Salvation Army has bell ringers during the holidays. I remember dad folding bills for me to drop in the kettle in front of Handy Andy Hardware Store as a kid
