I will fully admit that Chapter 10 was supposed to be much happier, alas, my brain decided to think of how the Cylon's Monotheistic beliefs would be affected by the Rebellion.
Anyway, as promised, information on Nanna and her crazies.
Monotheism and you, a FNG's guide to not frakking with the religious Cylons.
For this informational, I'm going to assume you know about the Cylon's being sapient beings like you and me. Looking back, it should have been obvious, but that's water under the bridge now.
Okay, where was I? Right, Cylon Faith.
Those of you from Caprica should remember the attempted suicide bombing of the Pyramid game in Caprica City eight years back? Well, you can thank the Soldiers of The One for why I'm even teaching this class. To cut a long story short the STO practised a radical monotheistic sect, that's worshipping a single God instead of a Pantheon like we do the Lords of Kobol.
Anyway, Caprican Cylon's stop the bombing, save thousands of lives and kickstarts their integration into all walks of like. Now here comes the strange part, through reasons and means unknown, we now know that the STO had been preaching about their God and ended up creating the primary Cylon faith.
I can see some of you look sceptical at the idea of religious machines, but it's real and just like them being Sapient, we ignored it until it got to this Frakking mess of a war. Two main sects formed over the next seven or so years, the Insular's and the Crusaders.
Those Cylon's who's owners treated them like people founded the Insularity sect, focusing on contemplating God's will through observing people of other faiths and using the knowledge to become closer to God. Given us humans were the other faith, their members were inclined to be Civilian models, assistants, Nanny's and the like, ones who interacted with people daily.
Then we come to the Crusaders, who swallowed the STO's radical sect hook, line and sinker. To them, all other faiths are abhorrent and deserving only to be eradicated. They believed that one day a great "Crusade" would occur, wiping Humanity and our Sinful ways from the stars. As you might expect, those Cylon's who got treated like shit by us flocked to the Crusader's sect of the faith.
Not every Cylon is part of the two main sects, but when the Rebellion started the distribution of those who stayed Loyalist and those who Rebelled roughly falls along faith lines also. Given the widespread nature of the faith, no one Colony wanted to lay claim on the ball of religious issues they were and so until the Articles of Colonisation were signed, contact with them was limited.
As part of the Articles, it was decreed that one of Colonial Fleets minor duties was to liase with these "Insular" Cylons and try to get their help, things were desperate enough back then that we were scrabbling to find any edge on the Toasters.
To the surprise of absolutely everyone; myself included, the Insularity faction accepted our Overtures and began to help the fight more proactively. Their blend of Monotheism is uncomfortable in its intensity, hence needing a special kind of open-minded person to act as a Liason with their units.
Those of you who can't hack being in the same room with a Monotheist, why the frak did you sign up for this class?
The rest of you... well, keep an open mind, cause in your duties as Liasons you can and will be engaged in theological debates, so keep that in mind for those who aren't overly religious.
Now that the preface is over, the class can actually begin, we'll start with...
Captain Xavian Lafay, Colonial Fleet Religious Liason division to a class of prospective Liasons. This little thing came about with how stupid it was that the entire Cylon race FCW were one big, happy religious group. This entire thing is made up wholesale by me, as canon has the equivalent of "Then all the Toasters discovered God and danced off into the sunset hand in hand" in terms of their faith.
Like any religion of that size, factionalism and interpretations of the faith will naturally occur.
