ENTRY 10
The Soldier and the Fairy
Alice lightly brushed the pixie dust across her face as she got ready to go out for a night on the town.
She'd hoped she'd be going out with her soldier boy this Halloween, but he still hadn't come back from his tour – which should have been over two weeks prior.
He hadn't come home.
Still, she'd gotten no notification to tell her he was dead, and as long as she didn't, she forced herself to hold out hope. She forced herself to continue with her normal routine – to go out with her friends and pretend.
She glanced at herself in the mirror, noting the gold of the pixie powder matched the gilded edge of the fairy wings. She also saw how well the strapless blue woodland dress clung to the push-up bra she'd paid far too much for.
It was a bra she'd bought with the hope of Jasper wanting to tear her out of it.
Her hair was carefully brushed to the side in an elegant twist.
She spun around once, trying to get used to the lace-up sandals she had got just so the outfit would be perfect.
There was a knock on her front door, and she darted out of her bathroom to go get it.
She glanced ruefully at her clock, suspecting it was her friends, Charlotte and Peter, or possibly even her big brother, Emmett, coming to get her.
Alice took a deep breath and put on her big grin as she opened the door – prepared to fake it through the night that would be nowhere near as happy without her Jasper.
The first thing she saw upon opening the door was the green t-shirt and camo pants before she looked up to find the face.
"JASPER!" she squealed, her face transforming into a genuine smile at the sight of her soldier boy as she stepped into his waiting arms.
He picked her up as he stepped in the house, kissing her as he kicked the door shut.
