Alice was sat in the kitchen eating breakfast: she had managed to get rid of the sling and although she still had some pain around her clavicle and her ribs, she could do normal things for herself. She was so happy that she could make a cup of coffee or tea, make herself a sandwich, cut up her own food and most of all, take herself to the bathroom.
"Alice, would you like to go for a walk into town today? We could drive into town and have a wander around? I have a few errands I need to take care of, and we could stop by the station and see Matthew. Maybe take him some lunch? He didn't take any with him when he left this morning."
As they arrived at the station, Alice hesitated and turned around to look at Jean.
"What?"
"What if Matthew doesn't want us here. Well, me. What if he doesn't want me here? I might be an embarrassment to him."
Jean reached out to Alice and took her by the elbow. "Alice, Lucien told me that Matthew has done nothing but talk about you at the station. You make him happy. The men had a book going on when you two would get together, before…before you were hurt. There's nothing to worry about."
The ladies walked into the station and looked into the bullpen. Matthew looked up at the sound of shuffling and saw Alice and Jean. A large smile spread across Matthew's face and Charlie saw this interaction. He got up to move a chair over for Alice and Jean and asked, "how you feeling doc?"
"Much better sergeant. Thank you."
Jean took a sandwich and apple out for Matthew and placed them on his desk and Matthew looked at both of them and said, "have you both eaten?"
Jean shook her head and explained that they were just going to head back to Mycroft Avenue for lunch. Matthew leaned close to Jean and said, "would you mind if I give the lunch to Charlie and I take you ladies for lunch? We could go to the little café down the road? My treat." Jean agreed and Matthew looked to Alice, "is that ok with you love?" Alice nodded in approval and the three got up to leave, leaving Charlie the lunch on his desk.
As Matthew, Alice and Jean ate their lunch, they talked of that evening: Jean mentioned that Lucien was taking her out on date and that they were going for a meal then to the cinema. Alice, suddenly came up with a plan.
