Chapter 11

A Mess

Beach City on the hill by the lighthouse.

There was a flash of bright pink light and Gwendolyn Tennyson, Lucky Girl was standing on the grass a perturbed look on her face.

Taking to the air Gwendolyn quickly flew towards the Temple and was barely half way there when she heard yelling.

Picking up the pace the house came into view and the group that was making a commotion before it. She saw Garnet and Amethyst facing off with a man and woman bearing resemblance to Connie and between them trying to mediate was a chubby man with long hair going down the back with a bald patch on top?

Quickly landing next to them giving them a start there was a moment of silence then Connie's parents were in her face shouting at her being the one turning her daughter into a superhero and Garnet was expressing relief, Amethyst expressing annoyance and the man at the back just looked so confused.

After a few minutes of hysteria Gwendolyn just created a pink flash of light to stun everyone into silence which Garnet didn't seem to anticipate was her Future Vision still off? But in the silence Gwendolyn said "alright let's start from the top I'm Gwendolyn Tennyson, I'm guessing you are Connie's parents and I don't know who you are?" This was directed at the man at the back who turned out to be Steven's Dad.

The two other people were in fact Connie's parents and about an hour ago or so they had received a vision revealing to them everything Connie had been up to starting with her adventures with him, going through her new magical powers, and ending with how she was trapped on another Earth and had gone to… Hell?

So slowly going through things Gwendolyn learned a few valuable points.

One, Connie had not told her parents anything about her adventures with Steven and the changes that had occurred to her since then which oops she contributed too?

Two, Connie and Steven had apparently been playing vigilante/superhero which was not the practice she envisioned them doing though it did explain the costume Steven asked for which again oops?

Three, Pearl had apparently been enchanted.

Fourth, she, Connie, and Steven were on another world and Pearl had injured Steven and the spell she had picked up earlier was an inter-universe SOS spell that she wasn't fast enough on the draw to pick up which was the immediate concern.

With the situation laid out as clear as feasibly possible Gwendolyn headed for this Earth's Door to Anywhere.

Making her way in she immediately found a downed Lion and scanned him. Gwendolyn nods. He should be fine for now. He just needs rest. She thinks.

She then turned to the Door and examined it peering closely and then she saw it. A faint glimmer of light in-between both halves of the Door. It was still open!

Quickly extending a hand a pink tendril reached out and slid into the slightly ajar door she poured mana into it and watched as runes lit up above the door and it swung open filled with a tunnel of light. Gwendolyn observed the runes above making a point to memorize them for future reference.

She was broken from that focus though when Amethyst stepped next to her making fists and punching them together. "Let's do this!"

Only for Gwendolyn to shake head "not a good idea for you to come along. Who knows what magic is like in this other world and can you really leave this Earth defenseless?"

"She's right" Garnet stepped up "though… I am concerned about what to do if we receive no word from you within a day or so."

Gwendolyn smiled uncomfortably at her and said "prepare for the worst, use your own judgement, and maybe try and get a hold of my cousin."

"But we can't just let you go off by yourself!" Amethyst protested.

"She won't I'll go" that came from a new party as turning they watched a figure dressed in blue and was varying shades of blue stepped forward.

"I owe you, Steven, and Connie" Lapis Lazuli said staring at Gwendolyn.

After a moment the sorceress slowly nods.

And the two take off promising to do their best to bringing the three of them back.

One tunnel trip later had the two arriving in Beach City. People kept giving Gwendolyn looks but no one seemed to notice Lapis.

Tracing Steven and Connie's magic, she found Monroe soon enough, the two had been briefed, made their way down under, and found Dark Pearls mansion.

Getting past the security spells undetected and in so little time was one of the most nerve-wracking things she's ever done as High Magus but she managed. Again, magic she had to feel out and not figure out. Who were the guys behind all this?

Getting into the mansion and steam rolling through several booby traps the two had found two women one elderly and in rough shape, the other younger and looking scuffed up.

Freeing them both and teleporting Ah-Mah to Monroe, Juniper joined them as they explained the situation and well here, they were.

June for her part knew that Dark Pearl was basically being mind-controlled but she had beat her and her grandmother up and nearly killed three kids, plus she wasn't going to let them save her easily so yeah brute force was justifiable in what was about to happen.

Moving quickly into a lunge June went in fists a-swingin which Dark Pearl just parried and batted aside effortlessly before with a magical flick she hurled June away with a "hwah!"

Then chains made of water rose up from the floor and wrapped themselves around Dark Pearl who immediately struggled and looked at Lapis who was gritting her teeth a bit. Even with an ocean above this place she was having trouble terraforming. There was… magic fighting her.

Some help came in the from of Gwendolyn who basically pulled out two constructs in the shape of blocks which she proceeded to slam into Dark Pearl from the left and right with the inside conforming around her like a mold and pinning her in place.

Dark Pearl frowned as she felt Gwendolyn's magic probing at her gem trying to "save" her.

Sighing she frowned and focused.

From the outside they watched as even through the bright pink color of Gwendolyn's mana Dark Pearl's form was outlined in light and BANG!

A shockwave flew outward trashing Gwendolyn's construct and Lapis' chains and knocking the two away and off balance.

But before Dark Pearl could do anything, she heard a "AHHH!" And there was Steven charging at her encased in a bubble again.

Sighing and rolling her eyes she swung her long sword at him not unlike a baseball bat and send Steven away.

And then was the sound of glass breaking at her feet and there was some blue goo puddled there.

Lifting her feet and stuck like gum. More chinking noise as something hits her arm and foam trying to hold her arm in place and again rolling her eyes Dark Pearl conjured a whirlwind to just wipe the magical concoctions away and turned to face the thrower which was Ray Ray.

Before she could do anything to him though in came Juniper who had recovered fists out.

Twirling like a dancer Dark Pearl used the movement to create another magical whirlwind of sorts which she used to throw her conveniently into Lapis who was mustering up some water which got that dispelled.

Then she aware of Gwendolyn staring her down hands aglow as she shouted out "Merchucus Verditis!"

But Dark Pearl merely smirked and said the same incantation much to Gwendolyn's wide-eyed shock and matched her spell for spell.

This was when Connie who had finally caught up with the rapid movement shook her head to snap her out of her stupor and mustering her magic Connie focused on the exact same spell those two were using to turn this tide.

And as her hands swirled with magic Connie narrowed her eyes and then they went wide as before her and between her hands a symbol appeared. Her symbol.

In bright green lines and curves it was formed. A diamond was the base shape. Two ovals and a circle formed a bit of a strange face like a tiki mask while two mirrored ribbons swirled along the mask like rivers and extending from the "mouth" were two protrusions reminiscent of wings… like a falcon.

Connie smiled ecstatically seeing this before she remembered oh right combat and with a shout alerting the two engaged casters she said "Merchucus Verditis!" And there was a bright green beam heading for her.

But there was something neither female had really noticed or considered.

Dark Pearl had been casting one handed.

With her sword in an almost jaunty manner she batted Connie's spell aside towards Gwendolyn turning the tide though not the way Connie wanted as Gwendolyn got knocked away.

She smirked at Connie before turning to Gwendolyn leaving Connie a bit devastated but that didn't last long as Steven came dashing over and he said "we need to be united and stronger if we're gonna save Pearl."

Connie stared at him before nodding and in slight desperation of the situation hugged Steven because it was easy but if she was honest Connie could really a hug right now and it was one Steven returned gladly, he probably needed it too.

Then there was light and in a weird amalgamation of Rose Guard and Fortune Lass's costume Stevonnie was there. The fusion looked at Dark Pearl who was swinging at a shield Gwendolyn had put up.

Summoning their shield Stevonnie charged forward shield bared with a "haaahhh!"

It distracted Dark Pearl from Gwendolyn who with a single slice cut their shield in half only for Connie's magic symbol to be behind it and she took an energy blast to the face!

The spell was successful and knocked Dark Pearl back a bit and then there's chinking noises, an bursting noise and goo on her feet again.

Goo that begins to grow in response to chanting as Dark Pearl looks at June who is pointing a wand at her while chanting.

Then chains formed from water bind her again knocking her sword from her grip leaving Dark Pearl to struggle.

Then before any spellcasting can be done Stevonnie is there throwing her arms around Dark Pearl to hug her much to the confusion of Ray Ray and June but Gwnedolyn remembers the battle against Jasper and throws out a hand which sends a stream of mana to spiral around the two stopping at her gem which then has tendril touch as Stevonnie gives Dark Pearl a kiss.

A kiss which sparkles as Connie's magic symbol lights up underneath them and Dark Pearl's gem shines with reflected light that surges into a column and when it fades…
