Chapter 10: The Pianist
After leaving the Observatory, Kipo and the others made their way through the night to try and gain enough ground for tomorrow, but the further they travelled the more horrors came out, forcing them to take shelter for the night in an old abandon store filled with mattresses.
"Best place to sleep, ever." Benson yawned as him and Dave fell on separate mattresses next to each other.
"Couldn't agree more." Dave sighed happily as Wolf and Kipo picked out their beds, Mandu hoping on the same mattresses as Kipo and curling up next to her like a house cat. Kipo noticing Spike picking his bed a little further away from the group but decided not to say anything about it.
"Night everyone." Kipo said as everybody said goodnight to each other before falling asleep.
Hours passed as the group slept deeply, except for Spike as he silently got out of bed and made his way out the store, walking along the street while staring at the ground lost in thought before noticing a sign on the ground 'Sale on Instruments: 50% off', looking up to see a ruined music shop and decided to go in, seeing only rusted and damaged instruments littered across the floor before spotting a black piano in the corner of the room, drawing closer he wipes the dust from it before tapping a single key and hearing it play out. Spike grabbing the piano stool and sets it up before taking a seat and plays a few keys, repeating it while adding more keys.

Ryini Beats
Spike hearing a beat play in his head like a metronome before adding more sounds to it, closing his eyes and getting lost in the music, feeling a sense of calm with the music as his fingers repeated their pattern on the piano keys before soon coming to a stop. Spike sighing to himself in content as he carefully closes the Pianos fallboard before hearing something crunch behind him, turning to see Kipo standing on broken glass.
"H-hi." She smiled, walking over to him, "I noticed you leave and I followed you…I didn't know you could play."
"Just remembered."
"Really! Spike, that's great!" Kipo exclaimed, "Do you remember anything else?"
"Not really. Playing music on the tesla coil helped me, but just a few songs." Spike explained gloomily
"That's better than nothing….right?" Kipo comforted, trying to sound hopeful.
"….Yeah."
"Spike, what's wrong?" Kipo asked.
"They're just songs, I can't remember anything else." Spike stated, "No memories of my family or who I am. Finding an anchor isn't possible."
"Come on, Spike. You can't just give up." Kipo encouraged, her smile fading as Spike avoided his gaze, "…I know it seems difficult, and losing your memories has made it…even more difficult…but you have me to help…A-and Wolf, Benson, Dave and there's also Mandu!" Kipo quickly added, hoping Spike didn't pick up on her pause as her face started turning red before she took a deep breath, "You're not alone, Spike. You have friends."
"Thanks, Kipo." Spike smiled, "Come on, let's go back to sleep."
"Not yet, I want to show you something." Kipo smiled, grabbing Spikes hand and started leading him outside to the side of the building and up the fire escape to the roof.
"Okay. We're on the roof, now what?" Spike questioned as he watched Kipo sit on the edge of the building, patting the spot next to her for Spike, the teen walking over and taking a seat.
"My first night on the surface, I stared at the stars. It was the first time I ever saw them, me and my dad would always read about the constellations and had them on our roof but actually seeing them..." Kipo paused, staring up at the night sky, "it was nothing like the books." She states as Spike looks up at the sky with her, gazing at the sparkling stars that blanketed the night sky along with the vast Milky Way that stretched without limit while the moon shined bright and full. Spike turning back to Kipo to see her eyes glistening with a sparkle, her eyes filled with wonder and fascination. Spike feeling his heart beat faster as his face starts turning red, Spike staring longer then he should have as Kipo glances towards him and notices him staring.
"You're not even looking at the stars." Kipo says as she looks away with blushing cheeks, incapable of hiding her smile.
"o-oh, sorry." Spike flustered, Kipo playfully nudging his arm as the two sit in silence, losing track of time.
"The sun will be up soon, we need to get up early so we should head back." Kipo suggested.
"Why? The night will be…over…soon." Spike trails off before hearing a voice in his head.
'Don't worry, the night will be over soon.' the voice says reassuringly.
"Spike?" Kipo worries.
"Huh…I think I just remembered something."
"Really! What?!"
"I think I used to be afraid of the dark." Spike states before hearing Kipo snicker, turning to glare at her
"Sorry, but it's adorable." Kipo snickered, trying to stifle a laugh as Spike shook his head in humour
"Last time I share something personal with you." Spike teased.
"No! I'm sorry, please continue."
"I think somebody sang to me when I got scared, a woman."
"Your mum?"
"Don't know, I can't picture her face but I remember her singing."
"Ooh, let's hear it."
"What, no!" Spike protested before being shoved repeatedly by Kipo.
"Come on, I want to hear it." Kipo insisted.
"Don't fear the darknmm, just ignore the…." Spike mumbled with his face turning bright red, "Ah! Forget it, no. I can't sing anyway."
"Please, for me?" Kipo pleaded, staring into Spikes eyes unaware that her eyes were reflecting the stars and causing Spikes chest to tighten, Spike taking a moment to think before taking a deep breath.
Just close your eyes…
Hush your cries…
You'll be alright…
Come morning light…
For the night will be over soon...
Don't fear the darkness…
Just ignore the weirdness…
And sing yourself a quiet tune…
For the night…
For the night will be over soon...
You don't need to be afraid
It won't just be you
For I'll be there too…
Until you find something new…
Spike finished, trying not to look at Kipo in fear of being embarrassed before feeling her hand on his, Spike turning towards her and seeing her staring at him with a gentle smile which he returned as the two of them stared at one another under the stars.
