Swords/Powers vs Wands/ Magical Abilities
In A Fight
Basically, just a fight between wizards and demigods. Uh... I think whoever wins this fight is circumstantial. A lot of things could happen in this battle that could turn the tide in favour of one of the groups.
Demigods could get a blessing from one of their parents or could be a Child of the Big Three, which would make them super OP. Wizards can be ultra-powerful and be particularly good at a certain spell.
But, I think, as long as the demigods have an experienced child of Hecate of their side that can halt magic (can children of Hecate do that?), demigods would win. I fall magic was halted, the wizards would be left powerless, probably, just because they've come to rely on magic so heavily.
If there was no child of Hecate around, a blessing from Ares could just deflect all spells (probably), although Ares might not be willing to bless some certain demigods *cough, Percy, cough*.
Taking into account the Roman demigods as well, who have a much more formal function, demigods could probably take down wizards.
Unless we're talking about the whole wizarding world. Because then the demigods would lose badly.
Which Is More Helpful?
So, wands and swords/powers have different uses, right?
Wands can be used for combat and there are spells that are intended to hurt, injure or kill, but there are also spells that are just supposed to help in day-to-day lives of wizards and witches.
Swords and powers are usually used to fight monsters or just train to fight monsters. Depending on the godly parent, powers can be useful for other things besides battles. Like, if you're a child of Poseidon, controlling water can be fun if your just swimming or something, or not wanting to get wet. But, for most demigods, powers are limited. And, for some, it's not so much 'power' as 'ability'. Like Apollo kids are good at poetry or music or medicine, it's not necessarily power.
Wands and swords can be lost or broken, though. Wands can also be snapped or they can be disarmed from the owner and will find a new master. Some swords can't be lost, or simply thrown away (Riptide) due to enchantments. I think, if you're a really advanced wizard, you can do a summoning spell for your wand.
Powers also have a downside.
Throughout the PJO and HoO series, Percy got better and better at controlling water, even being able to make/control a storm, with the help of Jason. But, the more demigods use their power, the more tired they get. After controlling/summoning the storm, both Percy and Jason were absolutely exhausted. So, powers are limited. Like in 'The Last Olympian', when Will helped heal Annabeth's shoulder, he looked 'almost as pale as Annabeth'.
Wands, however, have no limit to how much magic a wizard can do. I'm pretty sure a wand won't start smoking and catch on fire when the wizard uses it too much. A wand's level of helpfulness also depends on the age of the wizard. If an inexperienced, young wizard was trying to fight or just trying to make a book fly towards them, they might fail. Which, I guess, doesn't have anything to do with the wand, but still.
When you start your education at Hogwarts or when you go to Camp-Half Blood would also affect the answer to the question.
The youngest at Hogwarts are 11-year-olds, which is the age to start Hogwarts. At Camp-Half Blood, you can come at whatever age you want or have to. The youngest we know of coming to CHB is Annabeth (7), unless we counted when Luke was a baby and May Castellan was trying to become an oracle. The point is, if you walked up to an 11-year-old at Hogwarts, they might know a few spells (certainly nothing especially useful in combat). If you walked up to an 11-year-old at CHB, they could've just came to CHB, or they could've been there for 5 years already and knock the shist out of you.
In other words, first-years at Hogwarts are probably inexperienced with a wand, especially if they came from a muggle family. The CHB equivalent of a first-year could be clueless or the most experienced person there, already mastering their powers (if any) and weapon of choice. Some spells also feed of emotions that the wizard has to feel at the moment (Patronus Charm), and that may not always be achievable.
That got off-topic, but I think wands are more helpful than wands. You can use a wand for 6 hours straight and nothing would happen (negatively), in contrast to having powers and getting tried or having a weapon that can be lost or taken. Most powers that demigods possess are limited on how helpful they are. If you're a child of Demeter, you might have a nice garden, but other than that...
That's all for this chapter, you guys can give me suggestions on what/who to do.
Check out my new story, Tackling. It's Pipabeth, which I just found out about that ship.
