The End and a Beginning
Chapter 11
Nervous and an Important Question
Months went by for the Jellicles. Munkustrap's injuries healed. Bombalurina got over Munkustrap and became mates with Munk's brother, Rum Tum Tugger. Munk and Bomby are still friends and are planning on staying that way. Over those days, Demeter got very close to the silver tabby.
"Don't worry Dem. I'm sure you'll find a mate soon." Bomby stated lying next to the black and gold queen on top of the tire.
"Can we talk about something else?" Demeter mumbled, not really wanting to talk about that subject.
"Alright, let's see." Bomby replied thinking of something they could talk about. "How's Munk doing?"
"He's fine." Demeter answered with a monotone voice.
"Where is he?" Bomby asked, looking around the junkyard. "I don't see him."
"He went somewhere with Tugger a couple of minutes ago." Demeter explained, her head lying on top of her front paws and she stared at the area in front of her.
"What about Jemima?" Bomby asked, thinking of how the little kitten was attached to her older brothers, Munk and Tugger.
"She was here earlier but she left to play with Victoria." Demeter replied, not moving from her position and her voice still monotone.
"So it's just you and me now." Bomby stated, looking down at the golden queen.
"I guess so." Dem sighed, staring at the air in front of her.
"What's wrong Dem?" Bomby asked, placing a paw on the golden queen's shoulder. She could tell that there was something bothering her friend and she was going to find out what it was. "Did you and Munk fight?" Bomby asked, knowing that the silver tom and the golden queen were close and Dem would be saddened by an argument with the silver tom. "If you did, I'll teach him a lesson."
"No Bomby." Demeter replied, looking up at the red queen. "We didn't fight."
"Then why are you so unhappy?" Bomby asked concern for the younger queen.
"It's just that every time he is with me, he gets all nervous and when I ask him what is wrong, he says that he'll tell me later and walks away." Demeter explained, lowering her head.
Bombalurina listened to what her friend had to say then thought for a while. A smile grew on her face as laughter came from her.
"What's so funny?" Dem asked, looking at the laughing queen.
"It's funny because I know what Munk's so nervous about."
"What is it?" Demeter asked
"He has something to ask you that will change your life." Bomby stated, with a big smile on her face. "And that is all I'm saying."
Demeter's face turned into a pout as she looked away from the red queen and placed her head back down on her paws.
"Don't worry Dem." Bomby stated placing a paw on her shoulder. "Munk will tell you soon."
"What if he doesn't?" Dem asked, her voice sounding depressed.
"Then I'll make him ask you." Bomby replied. "Which way did Munk and Tugger go?"
"They went near the entrance and turned left." Demeter answered, not really caring as she tried to think of things that the silver tabby would have to say to her.
"Thank you." Bomby replied standing up and following the instructions.
"Where could they be?" Bomby asked to herself, as she turned left and was searching for the two toms. 'There they are.' She stated in her head as she stopped and watched the two toms talking on a junk pile. The red queen sneaked up closer trying to hear what they were talking about.
"Why don't you just tell her?" Tugger asked, looking at his stressed brother.
"I tried to, but I just get so nervous." Munk replied, looking down at the junk below.
"Well then don't get nervous." Tugger suggested, with a smile.
"That's easier said than done." Munk growled, laying his head on his paws.
"Come on Munk, don't get depressed." Tugger replied, smile fading as he placed a paw on his brother's shoulder.
"I just don't know what to do." Munk stated his head still on his paws.
"You and Demeter have been friends for years. I'm sure that everything will be fine." Tugger explained, trying to cheer up the silver tabby.
"Tugger what are you doing?" Bomby asked, walking out of her hiding spot and approaching the two toms as they stared at her in surprise.
"Nothing, Munk and I were just talking." Tugger replied.
"What were you talking about?" Bomby asked, already having an idea on what they were talking about.
"We were talking about … um …" Tugger stuttered remembering how the silver tom told him that this conversation was private.
"It's nothing." Munk stated standing and starting to walk away.
"Are you sure you weren't talking about Demeter?" Bomby questioned and smiled as the silver tabby stopped dead in his tracks and faced her. "That's what I thought."
"You were eavesdropping." Tugger growled, slightly glaring at the red queen.
"Not really, I already knew the problem between Munk and Dem." Bomby stated, looking at her mate.
"How do you know?" Munk asked knowing that the red queen has been mostly with his brother or the other toms and was not around him or the golden queen for weeks.
"Munk," Bomby sighed as she faced the silver tom. "I'm your ex-mate. I think I can tell when you have a problem."
"What are you trying to say?" Munk asked, with a slight growl as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"I know what you want to ask Dem, and I'm here to help." Bomby explained as Tugger and Munk looked at each other then back at the red queen.
As the three Jellicles talked, the golden queen still lied on top of the tire wondering what the red queen could be doing.
"Demeter," a voice called.
The gold queen looked to her right seeing two silver paws.
"Are you alright?" Munk asked lying down beside the gold queen.
"I'm fine." Dem replied, looking at the silver tabby.
"Dem, there is something I want to ask you." Munk explained lowering his head in thought as the gold queen looked at him with curiosity.
The silver tom let out a heavy sigh. "Dem . . ." he stuttered.
"Yes," Dem sighed, anxious of what he was going to ask her.
"We have been friends for a long time, and we've been very close." Munk explained slowly as the golden queen nodded her head in agreement. "Dem, I love you, will you be my mate?"
The golden queen's eyes widen in surprise. "Oh Munk," She sighed as she felt tears coming to her eyes. "Of course, I'll be your mate." Demeter replied hugging the silver tom. "I love you Munk."
"I love you too, Dem." Munk replied kissing his new mate.
As the new couple hugged and kissed, the red queen and her mate sat on a junk pile and watched them.
"See, I told you they would get together." Bomby stated as her mate rolled his eyes but didn't reply.
