The days passed with no words from the Team or even messages from Miss Martian or Superboy. "Why haven't they contacted us?" Superman was annoyed.
"They went searching for Evelyn. So they might be maintaining radio silence in case she is being followed by more than just them," Nightwing answered. He looked at the satellite and sighed in frustration. "I told them to keep trackers off so then if they do get captured while following Evelyn that her life isn't in mortal danger. Dylas has been mobile but no signs of the girl who caught Flash off guard."
"Could she have been a decoy?" Flash was curious and Nightwing shrugged. "The way she was fighting, it was almost as if she was holding back. Afraid to hurt."
"The holding back is based on her lack of experience with us. She certainly wanted to see who she was dealing with. But Hunter will show up again," Batman answered. "She seemed ready to take on Flash once she was aware of what she was going through."
"I'm worried about Evelyn and now two Young Justice Team members," Diana answered. "That's 3 of them gone since Zach's death," she warned. Nightwing nodded and then watched as an alarm went off and Hunter was back. "Do we need to speak of the devil?"
"Hunter's in Gotham City," he warned before tapping his communicator. "Red Robin, Robin get to Center Street. We have a new villain in town and she's not holding back." Batman looked at Nightwing who looked terse. "I don't want to suggest it because she's been a great friend. But I fear Evelyn didn't physically die. But she succumbed to torture. Hunter knows how to fight Flash too well," he explained.
"You think that Evelyn is Hunter?" Clark couldn't believe what was being suggested by Nightwing himself. "Evelyn swore to her deathbed that she would never be the villain of a story. She's been helping take a stand to Dylas Blackwell."
"She's a born assassin. She trained with the League of Assassins and the Justice League. She could be merging all her knowledge. She's computer savvy but she could be a fighter deep underneath all that," he answered.
"Nightwing, she wouldn't do it," Tigress responded. Nightwing glanced at Tigress and looked confused at her. "I see her daily at school. Evelyn isn't able to be bad. She has no evil bones within her body."
"She has openly admitted she was trained by the League of Assassins. By Talia and Ra's Al Ghul. We need to presume that her acting skills are originating from that. If Hunter is indeed Evelyn Blackwell."
"Let's get down to Gotham," Orin responded as he walked with Diana to her jet. Everyone really was thinking about what Nightwing had to say. Could Evelyn have truly betrayed them all? Was she working with Dylas?
As they all arrived, they were watching as Hunter was mercilessly attacking Robin and Red Robin. "Her face. Expose it," Nightwing ordered them.
Before they could try, she knocked Red Robin back and flipped Robin over and had him pinned before Kaldur lunged at her and swiped at her face effectively sending a mask flying off. "Shayera. Zach. Little help?"
"Of course," Shayera responded knocking Kaldur back and looking at her. "Your mask. Where'd it go?"
"I don't know, but it doesn't matter. It would be pathetic that they didn't realize there's a reason I'm better than them," she cynically responded glancing up. Orin, Kaldur and all the League stepped back as they saw her face. "Did you miss me?"
"It can't be," Beast Boy responded looking at the body of Hunter who was now clearly identifiable as Evelyn Blackwell.
"I did not believe Nightwing until this moment," Orin responded looking over Evelyn.
"You chose not to believe," she spat and Nightwing intervened in a fight that almost ensued between Beast Boy and Evelyn.
"Nobody wanted to believe this. How could you betray the Justice League? Doc? Drew? There are many people that you're betraying."
"You ask me that after I had to watch Zach get killed. I lost him and it's because nobody could find Dylas fast enough," she snarled. Orin looked at Evelyn feeling all the raw emotion in her voice knowing that even behind the evil was a little girl.
"Nobody wanted Zacharias dead. Evelyn, we all wanted to save Zach's life. We all were desperate to capture Dylas before he hurt someone close to us."
"You're betraying the King of Atlantis," La'gaan warned Emily looking at her. "Make your choice now. Come quietly. Let us help you."
"You think I'd ask for help from the same people who weren't there?!"
"That was my error in judgement Evelyn. Nobody else needs to suffer because I didn't ask for someone to trace Zacharias or to follow him," Nightwing warned. He looked in her eyes and smiled softly. "Come on now. Come home."
"My home is gone," she snarled.
"What?" Clark and Batman hadn't known about where her home was originally.
"Oak Street," Kaldur answered looking at her. "Has something happened there? We are unaware and want to help."
"Her home was destroyed by Dylas. She has no home. She's to serve him as she's guaranteed sanctuary with him," Zach spat.
"Do me a favor Zach? Take them out? I need to get back in there and get what we need," she informed. He nodded and looked to Shayera.
"Shay go with her and make sure they don't hurt her," he responded before the two females ran into the building.
"That's Wayne Tech. We need to stop them," Nightwing responded trying to run in before Zach stopped him. "Why are you fighting for Hunter? We know her. This isn't her."
"Maybe not but we watched her. Her pain grew as days went on," he spat. Nightwing looked at him. "Did you know she wasn't the baby of her family as in the only baby?"
"She had a sibling?"
"Yes. He was killed by Dylas. In front of her," Zach spat. "She does not speak of him because him and Zacharias were too close."
"I'm inside and looking for her," Tigress promised Nightwing. She continued inside and looked at Shayera and Evelyn who had a memory stick.
"That's all of it," she mused slipping the memory stick into her pocket before turning to Tigress. "Hello Artemis."
"Evelyn. You need help. Let us help you. Nobody wants to harm you. We're trying to save you. We all got your messages. Come on. Let's take you back. Let Fate clear your mind."
"My mind is clear. It's back to it's normal state," she responded before going at Tigress and grunting as she kneed her in the stomach and knocked her down before Shayera lunged at Tigress.
"Get out of here. The Flyer is 4 blocks away," she ordered and Evelyn nodded running outside before noticing Superman, Orin and Batman waiting.
"Crud," she whispered as she was grabbing for her gun. Before she could though Batman used a Batarang and knocked it away.
"Come on Evelyn. Let us help. We don't want to fight you," Batman ordered, but before he could respond she jumped up using her League training to get past them and into her ship before taking off.
"Shayera and Zach. Get out of there. I'm in the ship and coming above," she forewarned.
"Good girl," Shayera praised before they both jumped up as she opened the hatch and she smirked picking them up. "Are you alright?"
"I'm not physically harmed," Evelyn answered as she rubbed at her eyes furiously.
"What I said about your brother. I'm sorry about using such a personal piece against you. I know you told us this in private concerns." Conner and M'gann had always promised Evelyn any information she revealed in deep cover wouldn't be used unless necessary.
"We had no choice. We had to catch the Justice League off guard. It worked and we escaped," she answered. Both Conner and M'gann looked at her allowing her to see them as her former teammates as a League member.
"You never told us about your brother fully though. Was he killed by Dylas?" She nodded and M'gann looked at her.
"My brother, he was killed in front of me because he stood against a League of Shadows member to defend me. Talia and Ra's took me under their wing shortly thereafter. That's why I promised you that we had to do it eventually. But I haven't seen Ra's or Talia attacking us, which makes me quite suspicious about what's going on. Assassins Creed sounds almost like it's beginning a partnership."
"With who? We disbanded the Light and the Reach before you joined us," Conner answered before she put a finger up to her lips pointing to the ship that they were about to dock in. "Later then."
"At a later time," Evelyn answered putting her recovered mask on and walking inside to her father's room and there were two guests. "I was not aware we had guests."
"It's been a long time child," a male voice responded and that made Evelyn's blood run cold. Turning to face him she smiled softly.
"Been what? 9 years Ra's?"
"8," Talia answered walking over and looking at her. "Did you get what your father demanded of you?" She smirked revealing a data drive. "Well done."
"I was trained by you and Ra's. I don't fail," she snarled playfully.
"Well done child. Now what about the League? Have they discovered that you have rejoined the appropriate side?"
"Yeah they knocked the mask off so they were going to find out," she answered. "I made them beg. For me to return that is."
"You obviously said no," Dylas answered as she ate her portion of food.
"Duh. Dad I'm with you all the way. Me and my protectors," she promised him and he nodded at her before watching Ra's and Talia go with the three newest recruits.
"We didn't tell the League. We're here to keep you safe," Talia whispered. Evelyn glanced at Talia stunned and she nodded. "I never lied when I said you were like a child to me back in Arabian territory. You were."
"We should focus on the mission," she dismissed making everyone nod. Hunter had a job to do and she couldn't let her life as Evelyn Blackwell control her anymore.
