Series 3, Episode 6, pt 1 ~ House of Questions
At the gatehouse, Eddie glanced at the two girls who were going through the books on Denby's desk before turning to the organ. Pressing down two keys causing the notes to be played loudly in the air around them causing KT and Camilla to jump before glaring at Eddie who bit his lip to stop himself from laughing at the pair.
"Asshole!" Camilla picked up a book and threw it at the boy who easily caught it.
"I'm sorry... I'm sorry!" Eddie laughed loudly before leaning against the wall next to the organ, causing the wall to open behind him and Eddie to topple into a secret room.
"Eddie!" the two girls shouted racing over to where he had disappeared into.
Eddie was sprawled on the ground and glanced up at the pair, "I think I found something..." he said weakly groaning as he got to his feet.
"it's a cupboard, behind an organ, with a door inside it?" KT started looking at what they found.
"yeah you get used to that kinda thing around here," Eddie shrugged Camilla humming in agreement to the boy's statement. Weird tunnels, secret doors, nothing surprised her much at Amun Academy anymore.
Eddie moved into the room and examine the door, pausing by the lock to see it had a symbol engraved into it. "That symbol..." he stood back to let the girls see.
Behind them, a door was heard slamming shut, causing them all to look around in fear. "Denby is back!" Camilla hissed, grabbing KT's hand and pulling her into the secret room behind the organ, before shutting the door with a soft thump.
"Hello?!" they heard the woman calling, causing Camilla to look at the other two apologetically. She probably didn't close the door as softly as she could have in her rush.
KT focused on the symbol, pushing open the lock cover and putting her key into it. Holding her breath as she turned the key and finally heard the soft click, she had been searching for. She'd finally found the door the key fit into. The girl pushed open the door, and she and Eddie rushed in. Camilla glancing at the door behind the organ once more before following behind them. Perhaps the secret room had somewhere they could hide, at least until they could sneak out of the gatehouse.
"Is somebody there?" they heard Miss Denby shout.
The stairs spiralled until they reached the top where they reached a small hallway with nothing but a door, KT and Eddie diving for the door, Camilla on their heels.
The room on the other side was dark, so dark they couldn't see anything, but there was a weird sound. It reminded Camilla of someone using Scooba gear.
"What is that?" KT nervously said as she hid behind a wall.
"it must be pipes..." Eddie murmured.
Camilla stepped into the room, and her eyes widened as she finally took in what was making the noise. Behind her KT and Eddie nervously followed her footsteps. Unlike the girl, they couldn't help the screams that left their mouths at the horrific sight they saw.
Camilla turned on her heel instantly and covered the mouths of her friends with her hands stopping their screams, though she knew it was too late. Denby probably heard them.
"You know, this is the part where I am meant to let out a scream in fright, but honestly, I'm pretty used to this shit by now," Camilla looked at the pair rather grossed out but not as freaked out as they were. "now if I let go of your mouths will you both stop screaming?" she looked between them, her question more of a threat than a question causing the pair to nod their heads instantly. Camilla letting go of their faces, Eddie rubbing at his jaw slightly as it hurt under Camilla's grip.
Camilla turned back to the weird dude in the tank, "Why can no new teacher in this bloody school be normal?"
"is Denby some kind of Frankenstein?" Eddie murmured reaching out to touch the cold metal tank. As he did, a leaver pushed in, and a hiss of air emitted causing all three teens to jump back, Camilla holding her arms out to protect the two behind her.
"I know that someone is there!" Denby shouted, causing KT to grab Camilla's arm.
"Someone's coming!" the girl hissed in a panic.
"Hide!" Camilla ordered, nodding to the sarcophaguses that lined the walls. KT running for one but Eddie hung back.
"What about you?" he asked Camilla, watching her back into a corner.
"I am going to see what she is up too," Camilla said simply, taking a large gulp of air before thinking of her invisibility spell. Eddie trying not to let out an impressed laugh as the girl shimmered out of view. Of course, he didn't have much time though to be impressed, rushing over to his own sarcophagus and closing it on himself just as Miss Denby entered the room.
Camilla watched the woman with a calculating eye. Now she knew the teacher was up to something everything the woman did could give them a clue as to figuring out what. The teacher looked around the room, seeing nothing causing her to relax. Her eyes focused on the man in the tank, and a small fond smile flitted onto her face. The woman approached the tank and caressed the glass top in a loving way.
"just as long as you are safe," she told the man before a phone started ringing downstairs. "I'll be back to say goodnight," A welcome distraction as the woman took a glance around the room once again before leaving the strange attic room.
The moment the door shut Camilla let out the breath she was holding breaking her invisibility spell, before rushing over to where her friends where hiding throwing open the lids to the sarcophaguses.
KT running for the exit as Camilla and Eddie stayed still watching the odd tank in the middle of the room.
"Wait..." Eddie murmured to KT, "guys I've seen this..." the boy glanced around the room as realisation flooded his face, "in a vision."
"What?" Camilla rounded on Eddie, why hadn't she been told about weird visions?
KT glanced between the pair shaking her head at the fact the two weren't as freaked out at the whole situation as they should be. "Guys, I can only handle one crazy crisis at a time..."
"We are going to discuss you not telling me your vision on the way back to Anubis house." Camilla hissed, hitting the boy slightly before turning to follow KT.
Eddie, however, grabbed her hand, causing Camilla to turn and look at him, "Promise me we will come back."
"well duh."
"Come on guys..." KT begged slightly. Camilla gently pulling on Eddie's hand and the boy allowed the small girl to pull him from the strange room.
Alfie had given Amber to think about his apology, but it was reaching 10 o'clock, and he wasn't sure if he was going to be able to sleep if he didn't know where they stood at that moment. That was why he was stood outside her bedroom door. The boy looking up as he saw her come through the door to the girl's hallway, cookies and milk in her hands.
"Amber." The boy jumped to his feet to face her. "about fashion school... I thought if you didn't know you got a place, then you'd stop thinking about it. Still, I am so sorry..." the boy got onto his knees literally begging the blonde goddess for forgiveness. "and I totally deserve that milk your about to throw at me..." he flinched, but no milk came toppling over him causing him to look up at Amber.
The girl looking away slightly bored of his antics.
Alfie took the glass and threw it over himself and all over the floor, causing Amber to gasp and take a step back.
"See I totally deserved that." Alfie got to his feet and handed amber the empty glass seeing a small smile flit onto the girl's face, "but I promise you I only did it because I didn't want to lose you."
"Aww, Alfie..." Amber knew the boy hadn't kept the news from her for malicious reasons, "I know you weren't trying to be mean." She told him reassuringly. "it's just now that I know I've got a place, it's got me thinking about it, that's all."
Alfie sighed dejectedly as his girlfriend kissed his milky cheek before entering her bedroom.
"None of this makes any sense! None of this is possible and yet... it's happening anyway?" KT couldn't help but state once again in shock as Eddie opened the front door for her.
"You'll get used to it," he told her with a sigh, as she and Camilla rushed past him into the house, "it took me a while to adjust too." The boy turned to make sure the lock was on the door before he turned to face the panting girls. The three had all but ran from the gatehouse the moment they were clear of it. The last thing they needed after their discovery was to be questioned on why they had broken into the gatehouse in the first place.
"You know when my grandpa said I had to stop some great evil," A panicked KT turned on the magical paring, "I just..."
"you didn't expect a zombie?" Eddie offered for her, "Yeah, that was low on my list too."
"I was thinking a god honestly," Camilla told the pair, causing them to turn to her with wide eyes, "I have got to lower my expectations around here."
"This is huge!" KT told Camilla who pulled a face slightly; it was huge. It was rather normal for her time at school actually. "we have to go to the police!"
"What-and say what?" Eddie spluttered at the girl, "That we broke into our teacher's house and found some dude asleep?"
KT's face fell as she realised they couldn't go to the police not with what they had. No matter how much she was panicking they couldn't go to adults, they had to sort this themselves.
The raised voices in the hallway caused Patricia and Joy to come scarpering out from the living room to see what the commotion was, Jerome and Mara, joining the pair looking confused. Patricia crossing her arms as a frown formed on her face as she looked from Eddie and KT. "oh don't tell me," she scoffed caused the three to look her way, "a candlelit burger for two?"
"And I was third-wheeling, was I? Hello?!" Camilla waved at her friend from behind Eddie and KT, causing Patricia to frown as she realised her jealousy was misplaced.
"We were all over at the..." Eddie tried to explain as he glanced to Patricia.
"I just ran into Eddie and Cam outside," KT explained.
"Oh, so Cam you and Eddie are a thing?" Mara asked in an innocent tone causing Camilla to glare at the girl who smirked back at her. "where did you go? Anywhere romantic me and Jerome can try?"
Camilla growled slightly her hands forming fists, a small yellow energy building around them which Eddie noticed instantly, as did Jerome whos eyes widened slightly but didn't move to stop the girl trying to do something to Mara. Eddie, however, knew it was better they kept world war Mara at bay and grabbed Camilla's arm. The light fading as the girl understood his silent warning and took a calming breath.
"Eddie and Camilla had a candlelit burger outside?" Everyone in the hallway glanced up to the stairs as they heard Willow's voice. All of them confused once again at why the girl was in their boarding house. "that sounds so romantic..."
"No... no!" Eddie argued shuddering, "no offence Cam but ew."
"ditto." The small girl agreed. She loved Eddie, but he was her brother.
"so you weren't..." Jerome asked quietly looking between the two.
"Never!" the pair spoke together. A small smile forming on Jerome's face at the news as he turned and wandered back up the hallway. Mara letting out a small huff noise before rushing after him.
"We just were talking about the...Egyptian thing," Eddie hissed to Patricia whose eyes widened slightly.
"then Cam asked me how I was finding it here..." KT added with a nod of her head. "it's nothing like America with its baseball, and Apple pie."
"Clearly we still have some things to show KT about Britain being just as good," Camilla teased slightly with a smile on her face.
Patricia's focus was on Eddie who sent the girl a smile as he moved forward to her, "did you do something with your- this whole this?" He spoke, looking at her hair and outfit. Trying to compliment the girl, but it was coming out all wrong. "No?"
"No," Patricia spoke sharply.
Eddie nodded before running a hand through his hair and walking off to his room. This night had just gotten worse and worse for him.
"Well, Cam... I need you," Patricia spoke after a glance at KT. Leaning forward and grabbing the girls wrist and all but dragging her up the stairs to the Sibuna meeting happening.
"and the children of children sleep the day by..."
"Give the loop of fire to the sleeping man, and the dark son of Egypt will rise again." was all Camilla heard as she got dragged into her bedroom, to see Fabian pacing around the floor where Joy was sprawled out with books and Alfie and Amber curled up on Amber's bed looking at Fabian's notebook.
"That sounded like a sentence, but it had no information of use within it," Camilla spoke up as her greeting waving at them all.
"Guys we have a rule about knocking!" Fabian told them both.
"Where have you been?!" Amber and Alfie demanded at once, causing Camilla to think for a second that they sounded like parents telling off their child.
"Just out..." Camilla told them vaguely with a shrug.
"Yeah with Eddie and KT," Patricia bitterly commented as she settled down next to Joy.
"Just a teensy bit obsessed..." Amber mumbled to Alfie, but the whole room heard the girls comment.
"Wait... you were with them?" Joy turned looking to Camilla.
"I was," she smiled, not looking her brother in the eye, "Now, can we give it a rest for night?"
"You are the death of gossip," Amber wisely told her best friend as she watched the girl walk over to her brother and pluck the book from his hands with a smile.
"So, what have I missed?" the female twin asked, looking around at them all.
"Yeah, how are we getting on with the symbols in victor's package?" Patricia asked then all, "and have you worked out any more about Amber's bracelet yet?"
"Quite a lot apparently," Camilla mumbled, but only Fabian heard her shooting her a small apologetic look before he tugged her to the floor next to Joy and Patricia.
"Look, I'm trying... maybe we will get somewhere with Cam here too, but..." Fabian let out a sigh, "I am clueless about the bracelet, and those messages might be all I can work out from the symbols on this table."
Camilla put her hands in the air, and Amber threw over her bracelet for her friend to examine it closer. The Sibuna's looking to one another knowing it was going to be a long night.
Joy and Patricia starting to talk amongst themselves, causing Fabian to turn to his twin, "What aren't you tell us?" he asked in a soft voice.
Camilla glanced to him and bit her bottom lip, "Quite a lot, actually," she breathed honestly.
"Are you in trouble?"
Camilla shook her head and took Fabian's hand and squeezed it, "if it causes trouble, I will tell you instantly, until then let's not complicate things. It's me, I need to know everything going on to protect people remember..." her excuse was weak as was the girls smile. Fabian knew how much his sister shouldered so the rest of them would never have to be burdened by it, and he just wished sometimes she'd share the load to him once and awhile.
The Sibuna's split off for the night, Camilla heading down on a fridge raid before bed. Sneaking out and finding in half dead man in a tube, along with the cryptic Sibuna clues had caused the girl to work up an appetite.
She was just adding to her monster sandwich (something Eddie and Alfie would be proud of or so Trudy said as she pottered in and out of the kitchen cleaning up a study buddy time with Alfie, Mara and Jerome) when a familiar voice from the door spoke up.
"Did you know Alfie follows your advice over mine?"
"No... why would he do that?" Camilla sarcastically replied looking up at Jerome before pointing the block of cheese she was just about to put away at him, "oh wait, because I haven't screwed him over and I have his best interests at heart."
"oh ouch," Jerome mumbled as he walked into the room a small, sad smile on his face.
"The truth hurts," Camilla countered softly.
"that it does..." Jerome agreed looking up to finally meet Camilla's eyes. "I was hoping to catch you alone, actually. I wanted to talk to you about something."
"hmmm?"
"About –"
Before Jerome could say anything more Mara came bustling into the kitchen," Jerome hun, have you gotten the snacks for our movie night?"
Camilla raised her eyebrows but looked down at her snack, as Jerome mumbled some excuse to his girlfriend. Camilla tuning to two out not looking up from her sandwich until she heard the backdoor close and she knew there was only one person who would be coming in from that route so late at night.
"Does it ever stop hurting?"
Victor let out a sigh as he took in the dejecting looking girl who pushed away her snack as her eyes gazed onto the empty kitchen doorframe. The man could only assume she had had a run-in with Jerome or Mara, or both of them together. "no," he honestly told the girl, "you just make room for it."
"Why does it have to hurt so much?" Camilla's voice cracked slightly as she turned to look at Victor, the man seeing the girl's eyes water but knew the tears wouldn't fall. Not if Camilla could help it.
"Take it from someone who has been through something similar, ignoring it isn't going to change it. What happened; happened." He said softly, placing a hand on my shoulder "accepting what's happened and finding people to talk to about it will help lessen the sting." He sighed once again as Camilla looked away, "when it comes to this and your role, you will find you have a tough choice to make when it comes to love. The emotions it creates can sometimes cloud your judgement in the face of logic; you cannot allow it to do so."
Camilla frowned at the man's word, but before she could question his words, he had moved off into the dining room where Trudy was humming softly as she was cleaning up. Camilla curiously moved to watch the pair from the cut-out window between the kitchen and Dining room.
Victor approached the woman almost nervously, glancing back at the cut out to see Camilla watching them not subtly at all. The man then turned back to the table and cleared his throat, causing Trudy to turn to look at him.
"Oh, hello, Victor." She smiled at him, "are you alright?"
"Um..." Victor cleared his throat again, "eh Trudy...you and I have worked together for some considerable..."
Victor looked back to Camilla to see the girl biting her lip, stopping herself from laughing, the girl was giving him no moral support at all.
The man focused back Trudy once again, before handing her a note he was holding.
Trudy looked confused but opened the note up, "dear Trudy," she read out loud, "will you have a drink with me tomorrow night? Your Victor."
There was a gasp causing both adults to glance towards the kitchen where Camilla promptly ducked out of sight. The adults looked to one another nervously before Trudy spoke up again.
"Are you asking me out on a date?"
"not if you find it amusing." Victor bluntly responded.
"oh, victor, oh no..." Trudy rushed after the man who went to storm from the room embarrassed. "oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't laughing. It's just...I didn't know you cared."
"The point is, will you accept?" Victor asked.
"Yes." Trudy answered, "Yes! I don't see why not."
"Very Well. 8 p.m. tomorrow, my office. Try not to be late," With that, Victor all but ran from the room.
Camilla popped back into sight as Trudy turned back around looking at her with a wide grin, "did that just happen?" the woman asked the girl who was looking as amazed as she felt.
"I think it did..." Camilla answered, looking amused by the whole thing.
