RWBY Distortion: Volume 3
Chapter 10: The Cat and the Bull
Adam Taurus, despite all his strength and bravado, was thoroughly intimidated.
The creature was larger than an Ursa and far more fearsome. It was a quadruped, yellow, a creature with black stripes and a white underside. It had a thin, light blue tail with sharp angles and a spark-shaped formation at the end. The comically thin tail was a sharp contrast to the muscles rippling under its fur. Most of its face consisted of thick, white fur and shorter yellow fur around its red's muzzle had a light blue "X" of fur over a black faceplate with two bumps that covered its forehead, nose, and ears. It's two long, razor-sharp fangs that made its appearance similar to the Sabyr grim that terrorized the frozen tundras around Atlas. Its large claws each converged to form a single point. Extra fur hangs off its body in front of its thighs. Finally, there was a mane across its back that resembled deep purple rain clouds.
"Begone beast, these two are mine!" Adam ordered, believing he was talking to a feral animal.
The Raikou snarled and charged at him, a white aura forming around it as the extreme speed smashed into Adam.
Adam skidded back and sliced at the Raikou, but Wilt simply stopped as it hit the massive beast. There was no armor or tricks, the creature's skin under its fur was so tough that Adam's blade didn't even cut it.
Adam was too stunned to react as the Raikou slashed him with its paw, causing his red aura to flash from the massive hit as he staggered backward. Before he could regain his footing, the Raikou bit his arm and thrashed it around. His aura shattered as the Raikou flung him through the wall of the dining hall, as Adam recovered, he saw that the beast wasn't done with him and was charging a lightning bolt. The leader of Vale's White Fang barely dodged before it was fired. The Bull Faunus ran off in fear, not caring how cowardly he looked.
The Raikou then walked over to Blake who was clinging onto Yang's unconscious body, however, the angry expression on its face had all but faded.
"This is it...it's going to finish me off" Blake thought.
The Raikou began to shrink, fur receding and it's purple mane rising further up to its head until Tesa was on all fours in its place.
"Wait…. ?" Blake questioned.
"Answers later, for now, let me heal you"
Tesa grabbed Yang and gently rolled the blonde brawler on her back. The fires had finally burned themselves out since the walls were stone. Grimm was still everywhere so there was no reason to move her somewhere else.
Blake watched intently as a blue aura of energy covered Tesa's hands. She held it over what remained of Yang's right arm, as it glowed the same blue color she said "the nerves are beyond repair, I can't reattach it but I can stop the bleeding and prevent any further damage"
After a few minutes, she turned to Blake and frowned with "This is gonna hurt, but I need to get the bullet out, try not to scream."
Balke nodded as she felt a searing pain, Tesa's hand had electricity flowing over it as she generated a small magnetic field. Just before Blake screamed, the pain lessened as she saw Tesa fiddling the bullet between her fingers before tossing it aside and beginning the blue glow from her hands again.
"How did you do that, how are you doing this?" Balke asked in a confused voice. Her bleeding wasn't nearly as bad as Yang, in fact, Tesa pulled her to her feet, her leg and stab wound completely healed.
Before Tesa could respond there was a screech in the distance, the Wyvern was almost to Beacon Tower.
"We'll explain everything later, for now though let's get Yang somewhere safe.
Far below the school in the beacon vault, an elevator opened up to reveal Ozpin, Steven Jaune, and Pyrrha. The four of them immediately sprinted out of the elevator and down the corridor.
"What is this place?" Jaune asked.
"Yea, what is it Ozpin" Steven questioned, doing his best to act surprised at this place.
"It's... a type of vault" Pyrrha explained timidly.
Jaune give his teammate a look and asked "You've... been here before?
Pyrrha looked away from him, ashamed of such a large secret.
Jaune began to ask an obvious question before the sight of Amber's pod silenced him "What would this school need to... hide?"
Finally seeing the Aura transfer machine, Jaune stopped in his tracks, gazing wide-eyed at the strange contraption and the comatose girl inside.
Jaune wasn't any less confused so he asked "What? Who?"
"Jaune…" Pyrrha began only for Ozpin to cut her off, Erick was staying silent.
"Pyrrha! Get to the pod" Ozpin ordered.
Pyrrha looked at Jaune, then runs to the second pod.
"Mister Arc, Mister Ohm if you'd like to help, you can stand guard here"
Jaune looks at the two with uncertainty, then turns around and got into a guarding stance, Steven however was still looking at Ozpin with an ever-increasing scowl.
"What do we do now?" Pyrrha asked.
Ozpin was rapidly typing on the machine's hologram keyboard as he said "We, do nothing"
The second pod opened, and Ozpin turned his head to look at Pyrrha.
Ozpin spoke in a deadly serious voice "You, Miss Nikos... have a choice to make"
"STOP OZPIN!" Steven yelled, causing all three of the other people to turn to Steven.
"I beg your pardon Mr. Ohm but you don't have any clue about any of this...stand down" Ozpin dismissed.
Steven got face to face with Ozpin and said "I believe I do, you should really consider if guilting this girl into making a hasty decision to become your Fall Maiden is the right choice...Ozma"
Ozpin went wide-eyed as Steven spoke his real name, he had to be in league with the creature that warned Ozpin.
"I'm not sure how you and that creature know so much but you fail to understand what is at stake here, nor do you understand how this machine works" Ozpin bluffed.
"Indeed I do, and cramming someone else's soul into another is unjustifiable, especially when you are yet to tell her the full consequences of what this could do to her!" Steven argued. Luckily Jaune hadn't heard that part thanks to a nearby rumble, as if an explosion had just rocked the elevator shaft a dozen floors up
Pyrrha looks at the pod, then at Jaune, hesitating. Her expression changes from uncertainty to sadness, and she wipes a tear from her eye, still looking at Jaune.
"This is my choice," Pyrrha said firmly before she climbed into the pod, which closed immediately. This caused both Jaune and Steven to turn to her as Ozpin reached for the keyboard to begin the transfer.
In the blink of an eye, an arrow flew past Jaune and pierced the glass of Amber's pod, striking her in the chest. Amber gasped, and her eyes opened, then began to close again, while the machine began beeping an alarm due to her rapidly dropping vitals. Ozpin, Steven, and Jaune turned around to see Cinder Fall standing halfway down the corridor from them, an obsidian bow in her hand. She lowered the bow, a tiny smirk creeping across her face.
A ball of dark orange energy burst out of Amber, shattering the glass in its way, and entered Cinder. The murderer glowed, beginning to float, and gained long trails of flame around her eyes, with orange energy swirling around her. Pyrrha beat even harder on the glass, her stress increasing. Jaune raised his sword and charged toward Cinder.
"Stay back!" Ozpin warned.
Cinder summoned a large fireball casting it toward Jaune, who blocked it with his shield and was blasted backward, landing on his back. Steven helped him to his feet.
While he could probably take Cinder, Steven knew he needed to talk with Erick first. After all, Team STEL's mantra was "as little exposure as possible" during this mission but lives were on the line. A maiden might have been one of the most powerful beings in this world, but Steven had survived hits from beings who even Cinder's master would be an insect against. After his training with his late uncle, Erick had nothing to fear in regards to fire.
Pyrrha went wide-eyed at the sight of her leader getting hurt as she shouted "JAUNE!"
Finally, Pyrrha used her Semblance to rip the pod's door off its hinges, throwing it at Cinder, who knocked it away like it was nothing. As Cinder began to descend to the floor, Pyrrha leaped out of the pod and charged, calling her weapon and shield to her with her Semblance. However, Ozpin put his arm out, stopping her.
"Take Jaune and Steven and get out of here! Find Glynda! Ironwood! Qrow! Bring them here right away! The tower cannot fall!" Ozpin said defiantly.
"But I can help!" Pyrrha offered
Ozpin slowly turned his head to stare Pyrrha in the eyes as he said "You'll only get in the way"
Pyrrha hesitated for a moment but obeyed Ozpin, the trio of teens running towards the elevator Cinder descended to the floor and watched them leave, with the glow, the swirling energy, and the flames around her eyes all disappearing. She had no cause to see them as threats. Cinder turns her attention back to Ozpin, her eyes still glowing for a moment.
Cinder shook her head and said ``This whole time... right beneath our feet…"
Beacon's headmaster was silent, his face cold and emotionless as he prepared for battle. Ozpin turned his cane in his grip, now holding it like a sword and staring hard at Cinder.
Cinder's scowl grew deeper as she mocked "She was right about you…Such arrogance…."
