Four weeks after Sadie showed up, she left due to falling at the program. Adam was now the new head of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
"Hey Meredith, guess what!?", says Christan with a giant smile on her face.
"What?"Meredith says, noting that she is super happy.
" I got my first solo surgery today.t!." Christina says, looking like she is about to burst.
"That's Great! I am so happy for you," Meredith says. Christina pager goes off, " I got to go," she says running down the hallways.
5 hours later…
"Izzie, it is gonna be alright we are all here for you. Okay, we got you…", Dr. Bailey says as the group settles her into her hospital room. Christina announced to everyone about Izzie's cancer before her surgery, so they were all now helping her out.
"Thanks, guys, sorry I... I just didn't want people looking at me differently. "says Izzie sniffling.
they all carry on, helping Izzie, then they all just gather around and sit in silence. Pondering Later Christina Meredith and George leave to go home and get some rest. This left Alex and Izzie to themselves, to spend some time together.
When Meredith gets home, Adam says, "hey I heard about Izzy, is she okay? Are you okay? "
"yeah I'll be okay, it's just that... I never expected any of us to get hurt or die or anything. They've been like a family to me when you were gone. "Meredith says, wiping a tear from her cheek.
Meredith sits on the couch, when George, Christina, and Lexie walk in and join her carrying alcohol with them and Adam excuses himself from the room.
" Hey", Meredith says, taking a swig out of the tequila.
" Izzies has cancer," George says with a blank look on his face, " SHe knew she was sick, and never told me."
" She was scared. It was scary. She will be okay.", Christian says.
"She was patient zero." Lexie says taking a sip of the tequila.
Everyone looks at her questingly.
" When she was having the interns do all these different things to diagnose patient zero, it was her. We were diagnosing her.", Lexie clarifies for them.
" Let's talk about something else to get our minds off this," George suggests.
" I broke up with Owen," Christian says, the pain evident in her eyes as she takes another drink.
" My ex-boyfriend is going to be saving my friend's life tomorrow," Meredith says.
" I am in a secret relationship with Mark Sloan," Lexie says nonchalantly taking another drink as well.
Everyone looks at her wondering how Mark is in a relationship but lets the topic drop.
They all continue sitting there, not speaking, just drinking, and listening to some background music. They all contemplate how screwed up everything is.
The next day…
Christina, George, and Meredith all walk into Izzies' room sotting a smiling Izzie and Alez sitting down on the bed talking with her.
"Hey", Meredith says to them.
" We're engaged!!", Izzie says.
"What!" Christina says while we all stared at the two of them.
"Last night, I asked her if she wanted to spend the rest of her life with me," Alex says taking Izzies' hand.
"Congratulations!" Meredith says walking over to them and hugging Izzie.
" Ahh, Evil SOawn has gone soft.", Christian says smirking.
Alex rolls his eyes, and George says, " congratulations."
A second alter Izzies team of doctors including Bailey, and Shepard walk through the door.
Derek shoots Meredith a smile, but she turns her face towards the oncologists.
They all got through Izzy's first surgery and her future treatment.
" Go you guys, be doctors, and save lives," Izzie says as she picks up her knitting supplies.
Hey all walk out of her room saying goodbye as they left, and Lex planting a kiss on her cheek.
Meredith walks down the hall to go to a consult she has in the pit when she hears her na,e.
" Meredith!, Derek shouts making her turn around.
"What," Meredith says staying calm.
" I need to talk to you, about us," he says giving her a small smile.
" You got to be kidding me, Derek. Today you are operating on one of my closes friends, and you want to talk about!." She says feeling the anger boiling inside her.
"I miss you, Meredith, I want to be with you." He says with a pleading look on his face.
" Right now I believe you can save my friend, until then I want to continue focusing on my patients, and the fact that Izzies' brian is going to be cut into in a few hours. So please leave me alone and focus on her." Meredith sys walking away before he can say anything else.
After Meredith finishes the consult she had in the pit, she walks towards the on-call room still raging from Derek's words.
As she is walking she bumps into someone, making them drop everything they had in their hands.
" Oh my gosh, I am so sorry," Meredith says looking up to see who she ran into and relaxing when she saw Adams face.
"It's all good kiddo. Hey, are you alright? You look like you are about to burst.", Adam says reading through Merediths' emotions.
"yeah I am fine," Meredith says blatantly lying.
" Oh I call bullshit, no way are you fine. You were always and still are a horrible liar. ", Adam says.
" Let it go, Adam," Meredith says frustrated.
Before she knows it Adam is designed her into the supply closet.
" what happened.? And don't give me any more lies", Dam says putting his hand on his hips staring at her.
" fine! Derek is being a Mcass, saying how he cares about me. So that means instead of focusing on saving my friend's life, he is focusing on me." Meredith says.
Adam looks at her taking in what he said and having the sudden urge to go punch the guy in the face.
"That jerk, he should go...ugh do you need me to talk to him," Adam says toward Meredith.
"No, I handle it just fine. Don't you dare punch him or anything," Meredith says leaving the closet.
A few hours later Alex, Christina, George, Meredith, and Lexie received the news from dr. Bailey saying that Izzie made it through surgery, and they all took a deep breath smiling.
"thank God, " says George.
"That's amazing, are you guys going to go sit with her till she wakes up. "says Lexi smiling.
"yeah let's go, " says Alex walking towards her room.
they all follow behind him and find a nice place to rest and Izzy's room waiting for her to wake up.
Four days later…
Izzies surgery was a success, so she and Alex decided to get married in two weeks. Not only are they ecstatic about it, but it also keeps Izzie busy and her mind off the chemo that she's getting. So if you go and walk into Izzie's hospital room oh, you will see tons of wedding photos and wedding ideas all over her walls. she's definitely very excited about this wedding and it is helping her keep her mind off all the things that she's going through at the moment. After the surgery, Derek kept approaching Meredith and trying to find ways to talk to her. Meredith kept brushing him off and ignoring everything he had to say. Adam is continuing to thrive and is doing very well as a new head of cardio. Christina is loving him and thinks he's the best teacher she's ever had.
Meredith at the moment was just standing at the nurse's station when dr. Webber came up to her.
" hello Meredith. "says Weber.
"um...hi chief. do you need anything? "says Meredith wondering what he wanted.
"yeah, I need you for dresses "since the chief.
"excuse me? "Meredith says very confusedly.
"Izzie Stevens has turned her room into a bridal room. she has asked me to send you and there for help. "Says Chief.
"ugh... okay I'm on my way. " Meredith says as she walks towards Izzy's room.
Meredith walks into Izzy's room to see her sitting up in bed looking through the magazine, as she scans the room she sees dozens of dresses hanging on racks.
"oh hey Meredith, I'm so glad you here I need your help. "says Izzie smiling.
"what exactly do you need my help on Izzy ? " says Meredith.
"Well here's the thing, I can't try on the dresses. so are you going to model them for me and see we are kind of the same size, I'm obviously fuller in the chest than you are, but I really need you to do it for me. And you can't say no to me because I have cancer. "says Izzie with pleading eyes.
"seriously... now I can't say no cuz your cancery eyes are staring at me," says Meredith.
Izzie just chuckled and tells Meredith which dress to try on first. Meredith tried on many dresses to show off for Izzie but in the end, Izzie chose a ball gown wedding dress featuring a full bell-shaped skirt and fitted bodice, using multiple layers of tulle and fabric to create the fullness of the skirt. The bridesmaid dresses that Izzie picked out are a light purple, that's a Spaghetti Strap Full Skirt Bridesmaid Dress.
" Oh god Meredith thank you so much for trying on these dresses. Everyone is going to be so beautiful. I know you are not one to model and where types of dresses.", says Izzie very gratefully.
" Hey, I may not have thought trying on wedding dresses was the best thing ever but I used to try on all sorts of dresses in college with my friends," says Meredith chuckling.
"What does that mean," Izzie says.
"Me and my roommates always went to parties, and we backpacked around Europe. I always used to wear dresses to those parties. I also wore a really fancy dress to m mom's Harper Avery award ceremony when I was 16. Oh and the one time me and my friends were really drunk so we went into a rich person store and modeled tons of dresses together." says Meredith remembering the memories.
"That's kinda funny. I am picturing drink Meredith trying on luxurious dresses, and then getting kicked out of the stores.", Izzie said.
" oh no we never got kicked out because Sadies' dad is pretty important and Sadies rich.", Meredith says.
"Really?" Izzie says.
"Yeah.", Meredith says.
That's when Adam walks into the room chuckling, " I heard you made Meredith your personal model. too bad I missed it. Would have been hilarious."
Meredith sends him a death glare, and he continues to smirk finding her anger amusing.
" I remember when mom made Meredith look nice for a party when she was ten years old, she kept trying on different dresses. Each dress that she put on just made her plaster a new look of disgust or despair on her face. It was so hilarious but mom got so mad at her that she stuck Meredith with the store helper. It was hilarious for me, even if I was a fifteen-year-old in a little girls boutique." Adam says smirking at the memory of Meredith.
" Oh god, I barely remember that but I do remember you laughing at me, you jerk!." Meredith says trying not to smile, before all three of the start breaking down in laughter.
AS they are laughing Christian, and Alex enters the room confused about what is happening.
"What the hell is going on in here?" christian asks.
" My humiliation", Meredith responds, cooling back down.
"Okay so we wanted to talk to you guys about the best man and maid of honor." Izzie says.
"Ok, so who's the maid of honor? Me or Cristina?" Meredith asks, smiling.
"Cristina.", Izzie sasy surprising Christina.
Alex then pipes up by saying, " Actually, Meredith I wanted to ask if you could be my best man, or I guess best woman." He says awkwardly, smiling.
" really, oh my god. I would love to be you best man," Meredith says smiling and laughing trying to hold back the tears
"Oh, so what? I'm the leftovers?" Christina says sarcastically.
" You tried to save my life. That makes you honorable." Izzie says throwing Christina back by the amount of sentiment in Izzies words.
" Thanks,"Chrstian says, " I would be happy to." which was the biggest amount of sentiment Christina was able to show in that moment
