Chapter 13: Mates Forever
Silverstripe finished his meal with a burp. The sun was starting to go down. He went over to the nursery to look at the kits. He was excited for them to be apprentices. Maybe he would get one. He remembered the nursery very foundly. He even found the moss ball Halftallon made. He didn't want to go any further than the entrance though. He backed out and started to head out of the camp. He was about half way there when he realised that they couldn't really spend the rest of their lives together unless one of them leaves their clan. He decided not to think about it. He arrived at the gathering meeting place and didn't see Nightmist. The sun was still visible so it wasn't night yet. Silverstripe sat on the rock where he first met Nightmist. He imagined the day again in his head. His thoughts were interrupted by a voice.
"Breezepaw?" The voice called. Silverstripe looked at where the voice came from.
"Um, I'm not Breezepaw." Silverstripe meowed in confusion. Then he realized that she was the she-cat that Breezepaw went to at the meeting.
"He never comes.' The she-cat cried. Silverstripe instantly knew that she didn't know about the battle.
"If you're looking for Breezepaw, then I'm afraid that he won't be available for a while." Silverstripe mewed.
"Why?" The she-cat asked, still sobbing.
"Well, WindClan had a battle with ShadowClan and well-" Silverstripe was cut off by the she-cat.
"He died?" She asked quietly.
"No, but badly injured. He is fine." Silverstripe meowed comforting her. "What's your name?"
"I'm Swiftbranch." She meowed. Silverstripe comforted her a bit longer. Swiftbranch left as night time appeared.
"Bye" Swiftbranch meowed. Silverstripe nodded and watched her go into the bushes out of sight. He got back on the rock and waited. Sooner or later he fell asleep. He woke up to Nightmist nudging him. It was still dark.
"Hello sleepy head." She meowed. She chuckled a bit and got on the rock with him. She wrapped herself around Silverstripe and rested her head on Silverstripe's head. He looked up to feel her purring. He also began to pur.
"Do you consider us mates?" Nightmist asked. Silverstripe was caught off guard by the question. But he knew the answer in his heart.
"I do if you do." He meowed. Silverstripe felt the warmth of her pelt like the heat of the sun.
"Then I do." She meowed. They laid there in peace for a long time. They almost fell asleep again.
"You know," Nightmist meowed, breaking the silence. "I've been meaning to tell you something."
"Like what?" Silverstripe meowed. She didn't speak. She just stared at him with concern and love. Silverstripe knew she wasn't going to tell him whatever she was going to yet.
"We should go. My clan is on to me." Silverstripe meowed. Nightmist shook her head out of the trance she put herself into.
"Same," Nightmist meowed. "This is the best part of my day you know?"
"I couldn't agree more." Silverstripe meowed. They both got up and off the rock and said their goodbyes. Silverstripe headed home. He couldn't stop feeling her pelt on his. He made his way into the camp and straight to his den. He imagined that the moss was Nightmist's fur. He got comfortable with a few twists and turns and fell asleep soon after.
