This is Part II of the Thanksgiving Special. Last time, Adonis Donnaiolo made his presence known as Dragnarok and company arrived in Beach City. But when confronting Dragnarok, Adonis didn't kill him, choosing instead to defect to his side, revealing Eternal is after more artifacts from the Crystal Temple. As this happens, Dragnarok's team and the Crystal Gems split into teams to stop the contest of Luthors, with Dragnarok having a plan to confront Lex Luthor specifically. So... what is this plan? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes at a massive installation, undoubtedly one of Luthor Jr's resource extraction devices, as evidenced by the various supervillains surrounding the place, but we focus off to the side where Dragnarok, Steven Universe, Connie, Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, Peridot, Lapis, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Batgirl are observing the scene, confirming the roster Peridot's drones observed)
Dragnarok: If my knowledge of Luthor Jr's machines is what it used to be, we need to shut this thing down now if we're going to save your world's resources.
Steven Universe: Wait, how can you tell that?
Dragnarok: Let's just say I've seen these things first hand. And they almost destroyed my world doing it. But something tells me we'll be able to stop them quite easily this time.
Red Hood: Seriously? You can tell that from just looking at them?
Dragnarok: Take another look, Jason. You may be surprised at what you see.
Nightwing: With Mr. Freeze, I can see what you may be going for. Chances are he was forced. Probably the same with Killer Frost, and Harley was almost certainly manipulated. But the rest, I'm not sure about.
Red Hood: (Seeing exactly what Dragnarok is seeing) Oh ho, Dicky-boy, we've got this in the bag.
Dragnarok: (With a smirk) I had a feeling you would see what I was talking about. All we need to do is get in there.
Steven Universe: So... that's it? We just go in?
Dragnarok: Not exactly, seeing as the rest are still dangerous, unless my theory is true. Let's get moving.
(With that, Dragnarok and his team start sneaking their way down. But as we do, we transition over to the crew operating the machine, where Lex Luthor is talking to the bunch)
Lex Luthor: So we're in agreement.
Kotal Kahn: If you can fulfill the promises you have made, then you have me.
Deathstroke: You needn't be worried about doubting this one.
Kingpin: Indeed. While I have never met Mr. Luthor prior to interacting with his son, he is a man of his word, much like myself.
Vulture: You'd better be confident about that.
Kingpin: Have I ever steered you wrong in our professional relationship, Mr. Toomes?
Vulture: Good point.
Lex Luthor: Then it's settled. We...
(But just as Lex Luthor is about to reveal his plan, the sound of Dragnarok landing can be heard, as for some reason, he's stopped trying to be stealthy.)
Dragnarok: Mr. Luthor, we need to talk about your son.
(Being caught off guard by Dragnarok's appearance, a good portion of the group go in for the attack, specifically Killer Frost and Mr. Freeze, revealing he's got one quick trigger finger on that freeze gun of his, which almost freezes Dragnarok in place, only to be blocked by Steven Universe, summoning his shield. Reacting to the attack, the Crystal Gems start a counterattack, notably Lapis slinging water from the nearby beach, prompting Harley Quinn to smack her in the face with her giant mallet. At this point, both Lex Luthor and Dragnarok are trying to stop their respective groups from battling, ultimately ending up successful, with some intervention from Red Hood.)
Lex Luthor: Everybody hold your fire! This isn't part of the plan!
Dragnarok: Cease fire! Cease fire!
Red Hood: (Firing off a few rounds into the air) You heard him.
Batgirl: Okay, enough with the mystery. What the heck is going on here? Why are you so assured that Luthor here can be trusted?
Dragnarok: Because he's not your world's Luthor.
Nightwing: What?
Red Hood: He's the Insurgency's Luthor. The one who died fighting High Councilor Superman.
Dragnarok: Someone I never honestly thought I'd get to see again.
Lex Luthor: That goes for both of us.
Nightwing: Wait a minute. How can you be so sure that's not a facade? He's Luthor after all.
Lex Luthor: Unlike your world's Luthor, I never delighted in criminal activity, nor did I engage in it.
Batgirl: I think we have clear evidence to the contrary here.
Lex Luthor: This is only a cover, to keep Junior off my tail while I got a team together to stop him.
Steven Universe: So this is turning into a battle of fathers and sons? This just got interesting.
Lex Luthor: He's not my son, really. He's actually my clone.
Dragnarok: That's another thing that separates this Luthor from your world's. He's sterile.
Steven Universe: Well this just got weird.
Lex Luthor: It is a very strange scenario when you think about it.
Steven Universe: But then one question: Why turn against your own kid?
Lex Luthor: He's turned out to be worse than Superman was on my earth. I can't stand by him with all he's done.
Dragnarok: Then let us help you take him down.
Lex Luthor: I couldn't think about anyone better. I hope you don't mind that I brought a few friends of my own.
Dragnarok: (Seeing the team) You've got a pretty eclectic group here.
Lex Luthor: A group put together by choice.
Mister Freeze: Most everyone here was forced into Junior's machinations.
Dragnarok: I can see that with you, Victor. Nora and all that. What about the rest?
Kotal Kahn: Luthor Jr has captured more than Victor's wife. He has my beloved as well.
Dragnarok: Jade?
Kotal Kahn: Yes.
Vulture: Not to mention my daughter.
Dragnarok: We'll make sure Liz is safe, Adrian. As well as Nora, Jade, and anyone else that bastard Luthor Jr. has threatened to keep you on his side. (Looking at Kingpin) Still really surprised you're willing to defect, Fisk.
Kingpin: The Luthor brat has proven a dead end. Too much of a risk to all of our worlds.
Dragnarok: So it's purely business with you. I expected no less, Fisk.
Kingpin: You will find my considerable resources at the total disposal of the HRL, once we get back that is.
Dragnarok: Alright. First thing, we need to shut down this machine.
Harley Quinn: Way ahead of you. We never actually turned it on.
Dragnarok: Then what's pumping smoke into the air?
Deathstroke: (Pulling some capsules out of his belt) A few smoke pellets will fool anyone apparently.
Magneto: When combined with the ferrous residue inside the uncleaned smokestacks especially.
Dragnarok: (Seeing Magneto is in this group, with a chuckle) I'm glad to see they managed to convince you, Eric.
Magneto: This brat has proven to be too much of a risk to all of us: human and mutant alike. (Chuckling) I bet I sound just like Charles right now.
Killer Frost: Kind of, but that's no issue with me.
Dragnarok: You must be Caitlyn Snow. Barry and Cisco have told me a lot about you.
Killer Frost: I hope they can forgive me for this.
Dragnarok: Luthor Jr is a very persuasive individual. Knowing the Frost/Snow divide, they'll be just glad to have you back.
Girder: Told you, Snow.
(While this is going on, Lex Luthor is seen pressing a few buttons on the main control panel of the machine, deactivating it completely while it starts to disassemble itself)
Lex Luthor: That should make it easy to get out of the ground. Now all we've got to do is take out the other one.
Dragnarok: We've got Belial operating on that one. But now that we've got this finished, let's see if we can't help them out.
(With that, the entire group leaves the disassembling machine, as our tale ends for today)
This wraps up Part II of the Thanksgiving Special. For Part III head on over to Prophecy of Masks. Yes, the entire group Lex Luthor headed out with at the beginning is defecting as well. I just love a story of villains learning the error of their ways. That's why I chose the people I did. Injustice Lex Luthor was one of the good guys from the start, Harley Quinn was really only evil because of Joker, Magneto has the same goal as Professor X just with different methods, as does Kingpin to a degree. Hey if Yami can put Ra's al Ghul on this team, I can shift the Kingpin. More on the rest as the story goes on. So, what about Belial and Purple Diamond's teams? Tune in next time to find out!
