Empty bowls and plates, from ice cream and dinner, sat on the table, as the credits of their movie rolled. Both demons sat on the couch with their arms still folded, both pouting. Mama had all but scolded them good for their fist fight. She had even forced them to apologize to each other. That woman was a formidable opponent. Sesshomaru sighed and stood, grabbing the dishes and taking them to the kitchen, where mama was cleaning. He began washing the the bowls, and she smiled at him.
"Dear you don't have to do that, I can take care of the dishes."
"I have caused you worry today, and have started a fight on your premises. Its the least I can do to atone."
"Oh nonsense. You don't need to atone for anything. You just found out you lost a friend today. You just go and relax."
"He is still alive in my time. Just not now. He is an old dragon, so I am not surprised he didn't last another 500 years."
"Still, I know it must be hard. Go on, I've got the dishes."
Mama all but shooed him back into the living room. He stood at the door way, and stared out into the room. Sota, Kagome, and Inuyasha sat on the couch, talking about the movie they just watched. It was a Disney cartoon, they had called it. About a fish looking for his son in the vast ocean. Sesshomaru had surprisingly been reeled in by the amazing moving works of art, and the plot of the story was acceptable. He also liked the blue fish named Dory. Her cheerful and giddy personality reminded him of Rin, and got a few chuckles out of him. He also liked this food called, ice cream.
But as his thoughts about tonight reeled in his head, he wondered, would he even survive the next 500 years to enjoy this time properly, without the culture shock. The weapons these humans have were powerful now. He kept telling himself that no human would best him. But if he were to come face to face with a weapon of this time, could he really stand a chance?
"Sesshomaru? Are you ok?"
He brought his eyes up to meet Kagomes. Everyone was staring at him now.
"I...am unsure...I wish to go out again. I need to think."
"Uh, yeah sure. Just be careful, okay? And no demon stuff around humans, please."
"Hnn."
With that, Sesshomaru put his boots on and rushed out the front door. He didn't see the worried glances the room had given him. He looked out to the city, with the sky now dark, he saw how the city lit up at night. It was dark enough that no one would see him, so he took to the sky. He landed on a nearby building, the tallest one he could find. He just stood there, on the edge, his eyes scanning the city. What was he looking for anyways. Demons? Answers? Maybe a way to pass the time? He didn't know. He couldn't deny it any more. He missed everyone. He missed his dragon, he missed Rin, yes he even missed Jaken. Huh, to even miss Jaken. Seeing Ah-Uns body today must have really gotten to him.
One of those metal dragonflies, he learned was called a helicopter, flew by, and he wondered if they saw him. Honestly, he didn't care. This dragonfly was black, and had a large light attached to it, shining down on the city as it flew. He wondered what the purpose of it was. A breeze picked up, and blew his hair wild, and he smelled it. Smoke. There was a fire nearby. He scanned the city from his vantage point, and saw the source. Not to far away, smoke billowed into the sky, a large fire had overtaken a building. How had he not noticed that before. He saw large red vehicles with red flashing lights, and a blaring siren speed towards the fire. Curiosity got the better of him, and he began leaping from building to building, headed for the fire.
He landed on a building across from the one ablaze, and crouched, to avoid someone seeing him. The smoke in the air was thick, blown about by the dragonfly hovering overhead. He watched as humans in large yellow suits rushed people away from the fire. Humans from a white vehicle with a red cross on it, were treating burns and other injuries. He found himself entranced with how well humans managed the situation. In his time, there would be mass chaos and panic from a fire of this size. He watched as water flew from a snake, as these, what did he hear that human below call them, fireman?, aimed the water at the ablaze building. Yes. He had planned to help, to smother the flames secretly with his yokai, quite a task with a fire this size. But the humans seemed to have it under control.
He was ready to turn and leave, when a small cry of help reached his ears. He strained his hearing, to locate where it had come from. Coughing, and another cry of help. His eyes widened, it came from the building. The floor right across from him to be precise. He looked to the men of fire. They didn't seem to be aware of the trapped human, and at the rate they were going, the human would be long dead before they managed to put the fire out. His resolved carved into stone, he took a few steps back, and gave his leap a running start.
He flew across the air, not caring who saw him, and crashed through the glass window on the other side. The smoke in the room assaulted his senses, and his eyes began to water as he started to cough. He ducked down under the billow of smoke, and attempted to locate the distressed human. He saw her, trapped under a fallen beam, a human child. He rushed towards her, and with great ease, pulled the beam off of her and tossed it aside. She looked up at him, and backed away. She was frightened. More smoke began to accumulate in the room, he needed to get her out, now. Kneeling down to her level, he held out his hand.
"Do not be scared, I'm here to help."
Seeing as she had little options. She reached out and grabbed his hand, and he scooped her up and cradled her in one of his arms, her little arms wrapping around his neck. He turned and rushed for the window, standing at the ledge, he looked down into the crowd of humans. Perhaps he could leap back to the other building again, without them noticing.
'Oh my god! There's someone up there!'
A collective of gasps and screams erupted from below. Nevermind. He went over more options. He can't fly, that would cause to much of a fuss. He can't jump down, that would, also cause a fuss, and besides, a jump from his height will surely break bones. Suddenly a voice boomed from one of the vehicles, louder than any voice hes ever heard.
'Sir remain calm, we are attempting to reach you and your child now.'
Remain calm? He was perfectly calm right now. The child however, was crying in his arms, and coughing. No, he couldn't wait, he needed to act now. If they saw him defy human logic, then damn it they saw him, the child needed to get away from this smoke. With that, he took a step off the of ledge and free fell. The gasps and screams from below him made him question if this was the right choice, to the humans it looks like someone falling to their death. He held onto the child with both arms as he continued the free fall, and right as the ground came up below him, he sent out a rush of his yokai, another gust of wind in all directions around him. Shattering glass, setting off alarms. Unlike last time, however, it was obvious where this gust of wind came from. He landed softly on the ground, and place the child down gently. She was shaking, and he felt a tinge of guilt. Perhaps, he should have handled that better.
He looked up, and the startled faces of humans were staring back at him. The men of fire had even frozen up. He noticed that many humans were holding out what looked like cellphones, pointed right at him. To what purpose they did this was beyond him. A man of fire finally began to approach him, his steps were shaky.
"How did you...what are you?"
Fuck. Sesshomaru decided he should not stick around to answer. They saw him defy a death leap, they would see him leap again. And with that, he turned and leapt into the air, onto the building next to the one ablaze, and began to hop from roof top to roof top, away from the crowd of humans, who were now gasping again. Hopefully he didn't cause to much of an uproar, but a child is not dead. So that's a win for him in his book. Damn his soft spot for children.
He landed outside the Higurashis home, and quietly opened the door. He kicked his boots off, and walked inside, only to discover the entire family and Inuyasha were gathered around the TV. What the heck were they watching that was so exciting? He came up beside them and leaned over, resting his arms on the back of the couch. There was a building ablaze on the screen, wait, that building. His eyes widened.
'And here is video again of a strange man with silver hair taking a leap off of a burning apartment complex. A gush of wind literally forming under him as he lands without so much as a broken bone. We don't know where he came from, or where he went, but what we do know, is he saved the life of a little girl tonight. Where ever this super hero came from, we have to wonder, will he strike again? Stay tuned for more videos and reports on Japans new super hero.'
He stared at the TV in shock as a movie of him jumping from the building, and landing safely played. How had they done that so soon? It literally just happened moments ago, he didn't see anything that could resemble a camera. He watched himself leap onto the roof of a building and run away, and the movie cut back to the beginning again. He was completely bewildered. The sudden feeling that he was being watched came over him. Slowly, he turned his head, and sure enough, he had the eyes of the entire room on him. The room was deathly silent, and he felt himself shrink back a little. No one said a word, they just stared at him like he had grown a second head. Fuck. Was he in trouble again? He went over his options. What does he say, what should he say? Their stares beginning to get uncomfortable, he opted on the one and only thing that came to mind.
"...What?"
