Chapter 11: Not as easy as it seems

The next day, Videl woke up over excited when she remembered yesterday's events. She woke and went to the gym to do her regular workout. Once she finished and showered, she decided to text Gohan, knowing very well he wouldn't do the first step. She sent him a simple 'hey. Hows everything today?' but waited in vain. The day passed and he didn't reply and it worried her. Eventually, she decided to call and check on him and after three rings, the line connected. "Hello, who is it?"
"Umm hey, it's Videl. I'm sorry is Gohan here?"
"Big brother is at grandpa's."
"Oh. When is he coming back?"
"I don't know."
"Thank you Goten."
The line disconnected and she sighed Did he seriously leave without his phone? It's no big deal, I'll see him tomorrow. She heard her father call her and she went to find him, leaving her phone in her room I really don't need a scolding right now in case Gohan calls.

The next day, she got up earlier than usual and looked in her closet Maybe I can try to change my clothes today. If anyone tries something funny, Gohan can always help. It will be nicer than always showing in the same baggy shirt. She took a jean and a yellow striped shirt from her closet and let the pearl necklace appear. She grabbed her breakfast and headed to school, praying to Kami the police wouldn't call her There's no way I can fight in these clothes. She reached the school and went to find her friends, noticing envelops in Sharpner and Erasa's hands "Hey guys. What's this?"
"Hey Vi. Gohan gave us these. Can you believe it, it's official invitation to his kingdom's party on Saturday."
They made their way to the class where she found Gohan and his friends sitting and talking. He smiled when she entered and she noticed envelops on Mirai and Lime's desks and waited to see if the half-Saiyan would give her one. Eventually, the teacher entered and class begun. Once the day finished but Gohan didn't give her anything, Erasa asked her friend about it and the crime-fighter rose her shoulders "Do you think he got scared?"
"Of what? Come on Vi it was a kiss. You didn't threaten him. You should see the way he was looking at you all day. I'm sure he will give you one eventually."
"I don't know. Come on let's go eat. I'm starving. And can you stop eying us all day, I'm gonna think you're creepy if you continue."
Erasa laughed at her and they made their way to a small restaurant; but before they were able to sit, she felt her phone buzz 'Diner tonight?'
She smiled at the message and replied 'Sure. Where do you wanna go?'
'Will see on the spot. Ill come around 8.'
Erasa smiled at her friend and dragged her to the mall to shop for clothes. "Come on Erasa. Do we really have to?"
"Of course. It's your first date, you have to be perfect."
She blushed at the comment "What makes you think it's a date? He didn't say anything. We don't even have a reservation anywhere."
Her friend smirked at her and grabbed her by her hand.

Eventually, the night came and Videl told Gohan she would meet him in the city center. He was wearing a simple blue jeans with a t-shirt, and she saw the ring Hina made around his neck, along with Sharpner's bracelet. He looked at her and was amazed "You look fantastic. If I knew you were gonna dress up, I would have changed."
She was wearing a simple dark blue dress, having the top marked with white dots, and she let her hair loose.
"Silly it's not a big deal. I just thought it would be nice to change a little my clothes."
"Feeling more confident?"
She was surprised by his question but smiled at him. They chose a restaurant to go eat and Videl was surprised by his choice "Gohan, are you sure you want to eat here?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Nothing, it's just that it's a little bit more expensive than the first one we went to."
"Don't worry about it, I got it."
"Still keeping secrets?"
He lowered his eyes and didn't respond. He then held the door and invited her inside. They passed the night, laughing and enjoying each other's company. Videl noticed that it wasn't a date even in the slightest and sent a text to Erasa 'told you.' Her friend responded with an '?' and she ignored it for the moment. Gohan looked at her and she noticed he was stuttering "Umm… Videl so… I have a small question."
"Sure Gohan. Tell me."
"I… umm…" he passed his hand behind his neck before he took a big inspiration "Would you like to be my date for Saturday? For the kingdom's party."
She was shocked at his question and didn't know how to respond "You want me to be your date?"
"Yeah. Why are you so surprised?"
"You are the heir of the kingdom. Shouldn't you go with a princess or someone noble. I don't know, do I fit?"
He laughed at her and took her hand "Even if it were the case, I wouldn't want to go with anyone else. You don't have to be heir of a kingdom to be special."
She blushed at him and nodded before he smiled at her.

After they left, Videl excused herself to get back home. He walked with her as much as he could. She hugged him before leaving but he caught her hand to stop her and kissed her. She kissed him back putting her hands on his chest before he let her go. She smiled at him as she made her way back to her house, dialing her friend. She told Erasa what happened, and the latter was both sad and happy. "It's amazing he asked you to be his date. It's a big step. But I was surprised he didn't think it was a date. Just when does he think is the right time to take you to one?"
"Calm down Erasa. It's not necessary. Maybe he doesn't know about these stuff. To be honest, something else bothered me."
"Shoot me."
"When he saw what I was wearing, he asked me if I felt more confident. He really didn't notice that since we became kind of a thing, I changed from my baggy clothes? I mean he knows why I wore them. Doesn't he understand that I'm feeling safer now, not only more confident?"
"I don't know Vi. Like you said, maybe he doesn't know. Or maybe he understood but doesn't wanna embarrass you."
"I don't know. I don't think he understood, didn't feel like it. Let's talk later, I need to shower and sleep, we have school tomorrow."
"Sure. Don't forget we have to go dress shopping."
The raven girl cursed at the idea and sighed. She then smiled lightly knowing she wanted to look nice for Gohan. It was his party after all, and she wouldn't want to embarrass him in front of his whole kingdom.

The week passed on easily, and everyone was anticipating the event. They knew it was very restricted and not everyone was able to get an invite. Few people were able to see the kingdom from inside, and the media gave it a big importance since no one knew the identity of the new heir. Chi-Chi decided to keep her private life discreet and after she married Goku, she didn't let pictures of her family leak in any possible way. After a while, the medias decided to drop it, fearing the anger of the old fire king.

On the day of the ball, Videl woke up early to finish her morning routine and have the time to go to Erasa's to get ready. Sharpner told them he would pick them at 4 sharp and he wouldn't wait a minute more. She laughed when she remembered his fight with Erasa. She decided to go on a run since the weather was nice and prepared her playlist. She barely got the time to start running she heard her phone ring and noticed Gohan's name.
"Hey. Shouldn't you be getting ready for tonight instead of talking to me?"
"Well top of the morning to you too. It was nice talking to you I'll hang up now."
"Gohan I'm teasing you. How's everything?"
"Exhausting. I really needed a break. You're up early."
"Yeah. I decided to go for a run before getting ready for tonight. Sharpner threatened us he would leave us if we made him wait."
"It looks like Erasa didn't make his life easy."
"No she hasn't." She heard a feminine voice call his friend in the background.

"Comin'. I'm sorry Videl, I have to go. I'll see you tonight. When you arrive, tell the usher that you need to find me and they will direct you."
"Sure Gohan. Talk to you later."
He hung up and she couldn't but feel anxious at the girl calling for him Am I seriously being jealous? Come on Videl, you're better than this. It should be a planner or someone helping in the decorations. She continued her run and returned home to shower, trying to ignore her earlier thoughts. Once she finished, she went downstairs to get her breakfast and saw her dad "Mornin' daddy."
"Good morning Sweetpea. What do you say we take the weekend off you and I. I have nothing planned and I could use a vacation."
She mentally cursed and looked at her father Well, he will have to know eventually. "I actually can't. I umm…, have something planned tonight."
"Videl. What are you hiding?"
Her father didn't stop glaring at her while sipping his coffee.
"Did you hear about the Ox-kingdom's party? We actually got invited with Erasa and Sharpner. I'm meeting them later to get ready and go."
"The Ox-kingdom? It's like three hours in jet. Where were you planning to sleep?"
"We actually got offered rooms there. We know someone."
"And that person is?"
"Umm… actually it's Lime… and Gohan."
"WHAT? VIDEL WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT THIS BOY."
"Dad. Calm down please. I swear Gohan is different. Once you get to know him, he really is amazing."
"So you've been seeing him behind my back!"
"No, umm yes. I'm sorry dad, but you were unfair with him. I can't even begin to show you how thoughtful he is."
"I don't care. You lied to me young girl."
She lowered her head "I'm sorry daddy. Wait here, I have to show you something."
She rushed to her room and retrieved her mother's necklace. She showed it to her dad and explained that he was the one who got it and she showed him the pearl necklace around her neck. Her father was speechless and looked at his girl "That doesn't remove the fact that you lied. And how did he afford this. You said he's not wealthy. And who does he think he is getting you jewelry. You could have told me you wanted a necklace like your mom's. I would have got you one."
"I don't know dad. I didn't ask, didn't wanna embarrass him. And it's not about the necklace, it's the thought that counts. He was sweet enough to do one like it because he knew how much I cared for mom. And funny story, he actually is the heir to the Ox-kingdom."
"WHAT? He is the mysterious heir. So why is he living like this."
"I don't know dad. And I already told you that I don't care for this stuff."
Her father looked at her and sighed "I will deal with your lying another time. Don't think you will get off the hook that easily. Can you trust him? I feel like he is hiding a lot of things from you. And I'm ignoring his character that, believe me, is not one I appreciate."
"Yes dad. He makes me happy."
He smiled at his only daughter and looked in her eyes "If I learn he made you sad, trust me he will regret it. I don't care who he is or what you'll say."
She hugged her dad and excused herself to go retrieve her stuff. She waved him goodbye "No funny business young lady. I accepted you see him, nothing more. We will resume our conversation once you come back."
She blushed at her father "DAD!" and with that she left.

After what seemed like an eternity, the high school trio finally reached the entry of the kingdom. The village was even further than Gohan's house and added to their trip around one hour. They stopped at the entry of the small village and noticed the traditional fire kingdom decorations scattered all around. They saw several torches aligned, leading the way to the castle and several red ribbons were hanging from the trees and shops, reminding the guests of the fire color. Finally, banners were aligned with the kingdom's crest and were present at every corner. A balcony was visible and they assumed it was where Gohan would stand to present himself to the villagers and press who were not invited. The trio walked in the village and noticed how cozy it was and how friendly the villagers were; they heard stories about the king's fury and rage and expected the villagers to be like him, but ever since a mysterious fire that was ravaging the kingdom got stopped, the king changed his character a lot. Finally, they reached the entry of the palace and saw a group of usher leading the guests in several directions. "Good evening, can I see your invites please?" Erasa and Sharpner showed them their cards and waited for Videl "I actually don't have a card."
"I'm sorry miss, but you cannot enter without an invite and neither of these two cards are entitled to a plus one."
"I was told that I ask for Gohan at the door and I would be directed to him."
"I'm sorry but the prince didn't tell us anything. Can you wait a moment?"
The girl nodded and saw the boy retrieve and talk with an older girl. He then came back to them "I'm sorry for keeping you waiting. Can you tell me your name?"
"It's Videl Satan."
"My apologies Ms. Satan, if you could follow me please."
The trio followed the boy who whispered something to the older girl and she motioned at them to follow her. They followed her to a table where they found the Briefs family along with all their friends. They recognized Krillin and Yamcha and saw an old man and two new guys. "Here is your table. I'm sorry but prince Gohan is busy at the moment. He will find you later on." The trio made their way to Bulma who looked at the girls amazed "Wow girls. You've outdone yourselves this time."
Erasa was wearing a long dress made of a light yellow color and the top was made of a white dentelle in the form of small flowers. The top had a low cut and she wore a necklace made of three pearls of different colors and she added extension to her hair and made them in a wavy way.

Videl on the other hand was wearing a long dark blue dress that gradually became lighter once reaching the bottom to give a blue color like her eyes. It had short sleeves below her shoulders and an accentuated low cut and tight belt around her waist. The dress was made of a lighter blue design from the top to the bottom in the form of branches and leaves and the bottom had a white dentelle motif that resembled fire. She added her mother necklace to the ensemble and ear climber earrings and had her hair in a waterfall braid.

"Thank you Bulma. We could say the same about you and 18."

As usual, Bulma had outdone herself. Even when she wasn't the host, she had the ability to be the most elegant person in the room. She was wearing a long golden dress with light sleeves and a low cut, very tight around her waist, showing perfectly her curves, and added a diamond set to her ensemble. 18 on the other hand, wore a dark blue tight sleeveless dress. It had dark pearls on the top and a lighter belt accentuated her waist.
"Thank you Videl. It's my godson's ceremony after all."

Bulma introduced them to Master Roshi, Tien and Chiaotzu, who were all wearing black tuxedos matching Sharpner's. Krillin on the other hand, wore a navy one to match his wife. Videl saw Vegeta sitting and talking with Piccolo and Yamcha but noticed the absence of the kids. She then laughed when she noticed she talked too fast and saw Trunks and Marron coming in their direction. Marron was wearing a green dress with short sleeves and small flowers on the top. Trunks on the other side was wearing a white pant with a black shirt, and was clearly uncomfortable in his clothes. "Mom, I'm hungry. When are we gonna eat? And when can I play with Goten, I'm bored."
"Trunks, what did I say. We have to wait for Gohan and his family to appear. Once his grandfather speaks, we can eat."
The boy pouted and sat at his place, making everyone laugh.

After a while, the girls decided to go and take a better look at the place. It was decorated with red and orange ribbon from the ceiling to the corners and a big fire in a plexi tube was placed in the center. They saw the kingdom's crest on the walls along with several swords, battle helmets and armors, defining the kingdom's history. They noticed Mirai and Lime talking with a group of people. Mirai was wearing a navy tuxedo and a red tie. Lime, on the other hand, was wearing a white dress with big red flower motifs along the dress and a slim red belt. She wore a red ruby and pearl earrings and had her hair in a braid set on the left. They approached them and Lime greeted them "Erasa, Videl hey. I want you to meet the Hamichi, they are a family friends from the North. Mr. and Mrs. Hamichi, I present you Erasa and Videl, they're school friends of Gohan and I." They greeted the couple and asked about the half-Saiyan. "He is right there, talking with the East King." They saw the half-Saiyan talking with a middle-aged man before they saw a girl coming in his direction. They heard her call him by his name and he hugged her and was laughing, which made a certain raven-girl jealous once she recognized the voice she heard earlier in the morning. She was eyeing her friend and kept glaring at the girl who was holding Gohan by his hand and resting her head on his shoulder. Erasa noticed and rose an eyebrow but they heard Lime laugh "Someone's feeling jealous. That's so cute. Don't worry, she is an old kingdom friend, they know each other since they were kids. But you have nothing to worry about, Gohan never liked her even though she had a huge crush on him and judging by what I see, it's still there. He never payed attention to her claimed she is way too girly for him, if you understand whatever that means." They all laughed before they heard someone asked for everyone to be seated.

They all came back to the table before hearing trumpets and music and saw the Ox-King come on the scene "Hello everyone. Thank you all for coming. As you know, this year my grandson is finally coming of age. After my only daughter, the princess Chi-Chi, refused the throne, her first born son will take her place. I would like all of you to welcome the Son family." He waved at the end of the stage as everyone was clapping while the Son family made its entrance. Goku and Goten were wearing matching black tuxedos with a fine golden line on their jacket. Chi-Chi, on the other hand, surely won the price of the most elegant person in the room; she was wearing a long dress with a dark black top, and had a golden line matching the boys, and the bottom was made of a lighter dark shade and had many white dots, making it look like a starry night. She made her hair in a high ponytail and completed everything with a diamond set, and had her family crest pinned on her dress. Hina followed her wearing a light blue dress designed with white motifs on the bottom. The top was entirely decorated and was accentuated with the several white pearls. She wore matching earrings and had her hair like her mother's. Gohan stood next to her wearing black pants and a navy jacket accentuated with a dark black V and pocket line and had a black bowtie. His grandfather invited him to stand near him "I present you my grandson, Gohan Son. He will take over me when the time is judged." Everyone clapped as the current king pined the family crest on his grandson's jacket. He waved and stood behind the microphone "Good evening. I hope you are all enjoying your night. I am honored to take my grandfather's place, but I hope I won't need to for a long time. I will learn more about the kingdom and its citizens, and I hope that I will be as good of a ruler as my grandfather. I ask of everyone to help me learn and get more accustomed to the kingdom's traditions. But enough talking, I hope you will all have a pleasant night." He bowed and stood near the current king who motioned to the servers to start and distribute the plates.

Everyone was amazed at the variety of food distributed; they knew the Ox-King didn't take things low, but they never imagined it this much. They saw the Son family saluting the different royal families of the country, who were congratulating the new heir and wishing him luck. They eventually found their way to their friends' table and greeted them. Gohan looked at Videl and was astonished by her, and she blushed at his staring. They barely got the time to speak they saw a girl come in their direction "Excuse me your majesties. But the prince is requested on the balcony." They nodded and excused themselves to go. Erasa looked at Videl and smiled lightly at her "I'm sure you'll eventually get to spend time together."
"Don't worry. It's normal he gets busy." They smiled and continued to eat their food, amazed by it "Now I get it how Chi-Chi can cook like this."

The party was at its peak and people started dancing. The high schoolers were having fun, laughing. They tried to find Gohan but saw he was busy talking with several royal families but Videl glared when she saw the same girl as before walking towards him. she sighed in relief when he declined her dancing invitation and they continued to enjoy their time. They were all dancing together before a young man spoke on the microphone "Good evening. Excuse me for interrupting. It's time for the dance, if you could please clear the dance floor." Everyone left and they saw Goku invite Chi-Chi to dance and to everyone's surprise, they were amazed at how good they were dancing. Bulma smirked and laughed "Poor Goku. I can't imagine the nightmare he endured to learn these moves."
Krillin nodded in agreement "Tell me about it."
They were all laughing before they saw Gohan come in their direction. He extended his hand to Videl "Would you like to dance?" She blushed at him before Erasa pushed her. They made their way towards the dance floor and everyone was asking who was the girl with the new heir. They got into their stance as Gohan held her tightly by the waist and held her hand while she set her free one on his shoulder. "You look gorgeous tonight. I didn't even know it was possible for you to look even prettier."
She looked at him in his eyes, flushed.
"I'm sorry I wasn't able to spend more time with you."
"Don't worry Gohan. It's normal."
"Still, you shouldn't be alone, it's not right. You are my date and I didn't treat you like it."
She smiled at him and rested her head on his chest while he tightened his grip. After the music stopped, they broke the stance and he bowed to her before people started to reach the dance floor again. He benefited from the new crowd forming around them to kiss her before he excused himself to speak with someone and she found her friends, smiling. After they were chatting, the saw Gohan come back in their direction and his friends directly teased him. While they were talking, a man approached them "Hello Mr. Gohan."
"Good evening Mr. Nakamura. I hope you are enjoying your night."
"Indeed, this party is fantastic, per usual."
"I'm glad. I would like to present to you Mirai Briefs, he is the eldest son of Mrs. Bulma, the CC heiress. And these are my school friends." The man greeted Mirai and bowed to the rest of the group.
"And the fine lady with whom you were dancing. A friend I suppose."
"Yes, she is."
Lime looked at Gohan surprised by his answer before she noticed the shock on Videl's face. After the man left, the girls excused themselves and went to the balcony. Erasa broke the silence first "Am I the only one who didn't understand what happened?"
"No, you're not. Are you okay Videl?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
"Vi, don't lie. We all got shocked back there."
"Look, we didn't even had the labels conversation. It's not a big deal. Besides, we only kissed and didn't even go on a proper date yet."
"He didn't take you out yet? I swear this boy is more clueless than I thought."
They were all silent before Erasa looked at her friend "You're still lying to us. Spill it."
"Erasa, stop."
"Then explain why you are angry since you said you didn't put labels on it."
"Of course I'm angry. Sure we didn't put labels put he could at least have said I was his date tonight. I didn't come as a normal friend and wasn't a regular guest since I didn't even have an invite. Was it this much on an embarrassment for him that he asked a normal girl to be his date instead of a princess or someone noble?"
"Videl it's not like this. Trust me he doesn't care. I guess he got nervous. Saying that you are his date on a special event like this surely isn't easy."
"Because the event is special I thought it would be different. I thought that maybe I counted a little for him to say it. Let's just forget it and enjoy the rest of our night."
They all sighed and re-entered the room. They saw Gohan looking for them and he went to find them "Hey guys. Everything all right?"
"Yeah don't worry. I was showing them the gardens."
"Okay. Speaking of, Videl can you come with me?"
She nodded and they made their way through the guests. They eventually reached the palace's gardens and they sat on a bench "Kami, it feels good to breathe. I swear I don't know how I will keep up with all these social events." He approached her and wrapped his hands around her from behind, kissing her cheek.
He turned her over to get a better look at her and noticed her dry smile and frowned "Everything alright?"
"Sure. I'm just tired."
"Oh okay."
She sighed at his answer He really didn't notice?
He removed his jacket and put her on her shoulders; he then wrapped her by the shoulder ad and held her hand before she broke the silence and looked at him "Hey Gohan. What did people say when they saw us dancing together?"
"I don't know. Didn't pay attention. Why?"
"Just wondering. I was curious of what people thought. You know, you bringing a date that isn't from royal blood and all that."
"I don't know. Not many people knew I came with a date to be honest. It was kind of last minute. I got so busy I forgot to tell them until this morning."
She looked at him before she got up "We should get back inside. People will ask where you are."
He sighed and got up. He kissed her on her cheek again and grabbed her hand as they made their way inside. Eventually, the night came to an end and the group of friends made their ways to their assigned rooms. Videl told Erasa everything and told her she needed to talk to him as soon as possible.

The next day, the girls woke up and saw Mirai and Sharpner talking in the living room, who lost no time teasing Videl and showed her the headlines. Several picture of her and Gohan dancing and in the garden were in the front pages of many websites and journals and one of them managed to get a shot of them kissing on the dance floor with the title 'New Ox-kingdom heir already in a committed relationship?'. She hid her face with her hands and asked about Gohan's whereabouts but the butler told her he had meetings all morning. They decided to leave him to his work and left the castle. In the afternoon, Videl got out of her shower and noticed a message from Gohan 'you left this morning, couldn't see ya. Everything alright?' she sighed and responded with a simple 'yeah' before she wore a jean and t-shirt and left by the window to their usual spot to think. After around ten minutes, she felt Gohan's Ki coming in her direction and she waited for him. When he saw her, he directly noticed the sad look on her face and asked her about it. "Gohan. Do you trust me?"
"Yeah why?"
"Are you ashamed of me?"
"Of course not. Why the questioning?"
"To be honest Gohan, it didn't feel like it."
He looked at her curiously before he asked "For Kami's sake can you tell me what's the matter? You've been like this since yesterday."
He saw tears starting to form in her eyes as she started to speak "Why didn't you acknowledge me yesterday?"
"Huh?"
"When that guy asked if I was your friend, why did you say yes and didn't correct him?"
"What did you want me to say?"
"Seriously Gohan. Were you this ashamed of me to say I was your date?"
"I'm not ashamed."
"Gohan. You told me it you forgot to tell the staff you had a date coming. Did you know how much that hurt?"
"You are making a big deal out of nothing Videl. Seriously."
"And now it's my fault? How is it my fault please explain. You know what, I'm glad we're having this conversation now. I guess it's helping us avoid making a mistake by being together."
"So now being together is a mistake."
"OF COURSE IT IS. How do you want us to be together if you don't even trust me Gohan. You don't acknowledge who I am in public. I know nothing about you and you never let me in on anything. Every time I ask you about something you don't respond. You are keeping so many secrets I lost track of them all. I know more secrets about you than actual things. You find this normal?"
"I told you to trust me. You want me to tell you everything about me?"
"I want to trust you. But tell me how if you don't tell me anything. How am I supposed to trust someone I know nothing about? I don't want you to tell me everything, but at least the minimum. You can't even understand my feelings. You know how I feel at school but when I changed my clothes for you, you thought I was becoming more confident. You can't differentiate being confident and feeling safe. How do you expect me to behave around you if you can't understand me."
"If my life is too complicated for you to handle, I honestly don't know what to say to you. This is me. You can deal with it or not."
"Now you sound like a real jerk. You want me to adapt to your living but you on the other hand won't do the slightest effort to accommodate to mine. You know what, you remind me of the jerk you were the first time I met you. I am so glad to know that he is still here before I make a bigger mistake."
"I'm the one sounding like a jerk? You are the one who literally wants to expose me. You want me to believe you aren't keeping any secrets from me?"
"Not as big as yours! I asked you about the money for the restaurant and you didn't respond and I know you aren't wealthy. I asked about your freaking tail and didn't say a word. YOU HAVE A FUCKING TAIL GOHAN, DO YOU HONESTLY THINK I WON'T ASK OR BE SATISFIED WITH YOUR EXPLANATION. You literally said it's none of my business. But I should be understanding when I know you are clearly hiding big things from me. I bet if I asked you about my mother's necklace and the letter, you won't even respond."
"Not if you ask like this."
"See a douchebag. You know what, thank you for opening my eyes to the mistake I was doing. I really thought you were different. I kept telling myself that you are better than other boys, but turns out you are all the same. I bet this girl who passed the whole night searching for you yesterday will be more than happy that you are eligible."
She glared at him and put her hands behind her neck, removing the pearl necklace "You can have it back. I don't want it anymore. I really thought I meant something to you. Now I only feel like I'm a new experiment for the socially awkward kid."
She held his hand and gave him the necklace and turned her back to leave. She barely got the time to leave she felt a strong headache overtaking her and she screamed in pain. Gohan quickly grabbed her before she felt but she removed his hands from her "Back off, I don't need your help." She muttered something and screamed again. It lasted a few seconds and she straightened her back and look at the sky, sweating. He looked at her anxiously before she regained her breath and flew away. He opened his hand and saw the necklace before he shouted angrily and threw it on the floor. He became angry and silenced a scream as he started to transform. He knew she was right but he felt like it was an attack to his pride. He saw his father appear before him "Gohan calm down."
The latter looked at his father angrily "Who does she think she is talking to me like this. Is she seriously thinking that I am this emotionless?"
"Son, calm down. Don't talk ill about her. Being angry won't solve it."
The half-Saiyan looked at his father and sighed before powering down. The latter found the necklace and took it "Let's go home." and with that, they both left.

Needless to say that both fighters were glaring at each other all week. They didn't speak nor looked at one another and the several journals still discussing the party weren't helping. The group of friends was lost and didn't know what to do as the tension was building up and they feared they might explode any moment. Both Erasa and Lime tried to understand what happened, but neither one got a response. Sharpner and Mirai begged the girls to find a solution since they were both the sparring partners of Videl and Gohan who were blowing off steam and taking it on them. Eventually, both girls decided that the situation needed to be handled quickly and decided to take action this weekend. If they could at least understand why they fought, it would help them understand how to fix it. They knew both fighters were stubborn, and they had to find an efficient way for them to open up.

Erasa texted Videl Friday after school, claiming she will come to her house so they can study together for their approaching finals. When she reached her chamber, she saw Videl lying on the bed, hands behind her head and looking at the roof. "Everything alright Vi?"
"Hey Erasa. I'm sorry didn't see ya."
She adjusted her stance and invited her friend to join her on her bed. They talked briefly before Erasa noticed "Videl, what happened to your pearl necklace?"
"I um… lost it."
"WHAT? When? How?"
"I don't know Erasa, stop asking."
"You're lying. You'd never remove it. There's no way you lost it. Spill it."
Videl told her that nothing happened and she must have lost it once she was fighting crime but her blonde friend didn't buy it and asked again. Ultimately, Videl gave up and told her everything that happened. "Wow, that was heated. Why didn't you tell me earlier? And what do you mean he has a tail?"
"Exactly my point. I know nothing about him. It's driving me crazy. He wants me to accept everything and just forget about it? Does he seriously not know me at all? How can I become a detective if I can't even understand him."
"Maybe if you give it another try Vi? He was starting to open up. You told me he told you about his real age. It's a start don't you think?"
"I know. I tried really. It's just hard to try and understand someone when you know nothing about him. I'm sure you know stuff about Ryo that he doesn't tell his friends. I feel like everything he tells me, Lime or Mirai already knows them. I don't feel that different to him. I'm like a closer friend. I want him to talk with me, tell me what's bothering him and ask my opinions on things. I don't want to have a relation like the one he has with Lime you know? I don't see him the same way I see Sharpner, why should I settle for the same thing from his side."
"I know what you mean. I know I won't help by saying this but, try to trust him. Give him a little more time before taking your decision. I haven't seen you this happy in a long time, and I know it's because of him. If you're gonna be sad, of course forget it. But try another approach, maybe who knows. And if not, you won't have lost something big."
The crime fighter sighed and looked at her best friend "I will try, can't promise anything though. Come on, let's start studying."

In mount Paozu, Lime used the same excuse to go and see Gohan. They finished their studies early and decided to take a walk before Lime directed them at their usual spot. She sat below their tree and tapped on the ground, inviting him to sit near her "Wanna tell me what's bothering you?"
"Nothing. I'm fine really."
"Gohan, I know you. You are angrier than usual. You know I don't like it. Now come on, I'm waiting."
He sighed and told her what happened. Lime listen closely before she smiled lightly at him "I'm gonna have to side with her on that one."
"Are you freaking serious! Why? She sounded like a lunatic."
"GOHAN! Language. She's your friend you can't say that." She heard him mumble something under his breath before she glared at him "I swear if you keep on acting like a second Vegeta, Dende help me I will send you to King Yemma myself. Did you at least try to understand her? I'm sure you didn't, I don't know why I'm even asking. Look Gohan, you trust me, don't you?" He nodded at her and saw her smile lightly at him.

"It's been a long time since I've seen you this happy. Try to understand her. She said all that because she was sad. She felt betrayed and I can't blame her. You need to lower your guard more, otherwise she will never be able to follow everything. You said it yourself your life is complicated. But trust me, a divided problem is easier to handle. Stop being this afraid that something bad will happen, and if it were the case, you won't be alone."
He looked at the floor before he sighed "I'm sure she won't talk to me anymore. I messed up really bad. And why she felt betrayed? I didn't do anything wrong."
"You won't know if you don't try. And yes, you did many things wrong. Gohan only dancing with her while she is your date isn't enough. You spent the night avoiding Kara while you could have sat with Videl and she would have understood on her own. You are afraid of commitment fine, but saying she is your date is a big deal for her. It's these small acts that differentiate a friend from another. The way you are treating her is the same one you treat me, with the only difference you kiss her. You don't know this stuff, I get it, but if you feel anything for her, you should do a small effort and change the way you treat her."
"Why should I be the only one trying. It's not only my fault."
She glared at him "Are you serious? Have I been talking to a wall this whole time? Scratch that, a wall would have understood better. Gohan, you need to find a solution for this character of yours. You can't be nice a second and then angry, I swear you are bipolar. And no, this time she isn't at wrong, so yes, you will have to do an effort not her."
He glared at her before he got up "Will see. Now, I have other things to think about. Wanna go eat?"
She sighed and got up "I can't. I promised my grandpa I would see him tonight. Between school, Mirai and all your problems, I barely saw him this past month."
He ignored her last comment and called Nimbus to take her home. "Promise me you'll think about it."
"I'll try." And with that, she left.

The next day, Goku and Gohan were training in a valley near their house before they heard King Kai talking to them "Goku. The Kais are waiting for you. They have news. Come here as fast as you can." Goku nodded and looked at his son "Let's get Piccolo, Vegeta and Trunks." The latter nodded and they made their way to CC.

They found Vegeta and Mirai Trunks training in the GR located in the garden and they explained the situation before they all made their way to the Lookout. Piccolo was already waiting for them and they all held to Goku as he used the Instant Transmission technique.

When they arrived on King Kai's planet, they saw the north quadrant Kai waiting for them. Goku nodded and walked towards the two new figures. They were two men, one as tall as Piccolo with a pink skin and long white hair, while the second was even shorter than Vegeta, with a purple skin and short white hair. They were both wearing the same blue clothing and the shorter one was floating in the air. "Took you long enough, Goku."
"I'm sorry about that Supreme Kai. I had to find the others."
Goku presented the Supreme Kai, named Shin, and his assistant Kibito to the others and he told them they were the one who kept him in the Otherworld for training, much to Gohan's dislike. Shin looked at him "Now's not the time to hold grudge against me young boy. Listen carefully, because from now on, no more distractions or guard lowered." The group, even surprisingly Vegeta, nodded and waited for the explanations "What we will have to face is no common enemy; their names are Loki and Hela. And they are now trying to escape their interdimensional prison."

A/N: eleventh chapter done.

I hope you liked this chapter. I wanted to integrate more drama. It's not normal for Gohan's character to have changed this much and Videl's curiosity will have to affect her relations. I won't do a dramatic story where they will stay mad until the end, I have something else planned. I will also finally reveal the villains in the story, I hope you will like them. As I said before, they are OC and I will try to detail their backstory as much as possible.
