Chapter 13: Names to Faces
Hey howdy hey hello, welcome to the show! Enigma's here, back with yet another chapter.
Well, at least for you app users, for anyone using the site, I don't know when this will go up, the site hasn't been working since Halloween.
Whenever you read this, enjoy!
Feel free to review, but don't just rip into me. I'm doing this for fun, not excessive criticism.
After all the excitement of the Sports Festival, Moxie had to admit that normal class seemed… pretty boring. Hiryu, though, was just happy to get back into the usual routine.
"Today's Hero informatics period is a little special." Aizawa said.
"Don't tell me it's another test?!" The class thought, panicked.
"Today, you'll come up with your Hero names." The Pro Hero said.
The class erupted into cheers at Aizawa's announcement, though they fell silent after a single glare from the grumpy Pro.
"This is related to the offers made by Pro's I mentioned the other day." Aizawa informed them, "The offers will truly start mattering only after you've gained some experience and your adaptable fighting style is judged during your sophomore and senior years, in other word, the offers you're getting this year are more akin to expressions of 'interest' in your future potential. And it's not rare that the interest dries up by graduation or is simply unilaterally dropped."
"So we just have to keep proving ourselves?" Hagakure asked.
"If that's the case, I say bring it on!" Moxie slammed his fist on the desk.
"Yes." Aizawa responded, ignoring Moxie, "Now, the tally of nominations is as follows."
As he spoke, a chart appeared on the board behind him, showing who received orders.
"Typically, the results are more balanced, but this year all the attention leaned towards two of you." Aizawa said.
Todoroki: 4,123
Bakugo: 3,550
Iida: 301
Kaminari: 272
Moxie: 142
Yaoyorozu: 108
Tokoyami: 96
Hiryu: 73
Kirishima: 68
Shoji: 32
Uraraka: 20
Sero: 14
"D#mn, it's so clear it's practically black and white!" Kaminari groaned.
"Those Pros have no discerning eye." Aoyoma fumed.
"Hey, that isn't so bad!" Moxie laughed.
"So many offers…" Hiryu thought, staring at the 72 next to her name, "Seventy-two Pros…"
"Look at that, first and second places are the reverse!" Kirishima pointed out.
"Seeing Bakugo all straight-jacketed on the winners' stand must have scared 'em off." Sero explained.
"If a Pro's scared of me, they're just weak!" Bakugo shouted.
"Wow! People want us! They really want us!" Uraraka exclaimed, shaking Iida.
"Based on this… regardless of whether or not you received any offers, I'll be having you all go get some so-called 'work-place experience'." Aizawa said, "Well, you've already dipped into the world of Pro's, unfortunately. But I think experiencing the activities of Pro's firsthand will prove to be more useful than training beforehand."
"And cuz of that we need Hero names!" Sato blurted out.
"Things have gotten fun all of a sudden!" Uraraka exclaimed.
"Of course, placeholder names are fine, too, but you should choose something more appropriate, because if not-" Aizawa said.
"You'll have hell to pay later!" Midnight cut him off, opening the door.
Midnight sauntered into the room, her mask was on her forehead and her hands were behind her head. Her hips swayed side to side as she walked.
Several of the male students were rather excited at Midnight's entrance, though Moxie just wanted her to hurry up and get to the names. Hiryu blushed a little as Midnight entered the room.
"Choose carefully, or the name you pick today may remain with you for life, and we wouldn't want any of you getting stuck with something… indecent." Midnight said.
"Midnight will have the final say on what names you choose, it's not really my specialty." Aizawa told them, "The name you give yourself is a representation of what you stand for as a Hero, it will also tell people the kind of Hero you want to be, so think carefully."
The class started thinking hard as a number of boards and markers were passed around.
"Hah! I know exactly what name to go for…" Moxie grinned, scribbling something on the board, "Wait, I shouldn't write it in English…"
"Hm… a name that represents what I stand for…" Hiryu scratched her chin, grasping around for ideas, "I never really thought about this."
Aoyoma began to stand up, but Moxie beat him to it, bouncing up to the front of the room.
"Here's the name I chose!" Moxie smiled, showing them the board.
In the center of the board was a name written in English, which Moxie had scratched out, but right above that was the name "The Bouncing Hero: Jade Rabbit".
"Ah, I see… a joke about your green outfit, with the rabbit ears?" Midnight held her pointer fingers up on her head like bunny ears.
"Yep!" Moxie smiled.
"Nice and simple, I approve!" Midnight gave him a thumbs up.
Aoyoma went next, giving Moxie a glare before he presented his name. He had chosen the name "I cannot stop twinkling" which Midnight shortened to just "Can't stop twinkling".
Next Ashido tried 'Alien Queen', which was immediately shot down by Midnight because it made her think of the monster from a horror movie.
Tsuyu was Froppy, Kirishima was Red Riot, Jiro was Earphone Jack, Shoji was Tentacole. Then there were some less creative names, Sero was Cellophane, Ojiro was Tailman and Sato was Sugarman.
"A-Alright, I'll go next." Hiryu spoke as loudly as she dared, slowly making her way up to the podium, "Th-This is the name I chose."
Hiryu showed everyone the board. Written in the center with very neat handwriting was the name "The Dragon Hero: Draconia."
"I-It's not the best, I know…" Hiryu mumbled, scratching her cheek.
"It's perfectly fitting!" Midnight smiled.
"O-Oh… thank you…" Hiryu blushed, making her way back to her seat.
The class continued picking names, Kaminari was Chargebolt, Ashido was up again as Pinky, Todoroki just went with his first name, Shoto, Yaoyorozu was Creati, Tokoyami was Tsukoyomi, Koda was Anima and Bakugo attempted to go with King Explosion Murder, which was denied for being too violent.
"You should be Explosion Boy!" Kirishima said.
"Shut it, weird hair!" Bakugo shouted.
Bakugo went back to revise his Hero name, next Uraraka was up, as Uravity, Iida also went with his first name, Tenya, and Midoriya went for Deku.
Bakugo tried again as Lord Explosion Murder, but got shot down for the same reason as the last one.
"D#mnit." Bakugo growled, stomping back to his seat.
"You can come up with a name later, Bakugo." Midnight told him with a sigh.
Now that the naming was done, Aizawa took over the class again to resume talking about internships, "Alright, now that we've gotten that taken care of, we can get back to internships," He said, "They'll last exactly one week. For those of you who received offers, you'll get to pick who you wish to intern with. As for everyone else, a different list will be provided. In total, there are about forty agencies across the country which are willing to take on interns right now, so pick one that specializes in the area of expertise you're trying to get into."
Everyone got a small stack of papers, and the teachers left, leaving them to look over their choices.
"Ooh, that one would be cool… oh, and that one!" Moxie looked over the list, "I don't even know who that is… never heard of them…"
"Let's see… well, I'm not exactly stellar at combat, so maybe a rescue agency would be good…" Hiryu looked over her own list, but one name jumped out at her. She didn't even need to look at the other choices to know who she'd be going with.
"Ugh, what a tough decision!" Moxie groaned, flipping through the list again and again.
It took a while, but Moxie did eventually decide on who he'd be going to for his internship. A few days later, the class met at the train station, luggage in tow, for the start of the internships.
"Good, you all have your costumes." Aizawa said as he looked over the class, "You can wear them during your internships, but not out in public without your Hero's permission. Also, try not to lose them or get them torn up, understood?"
"You got it!" Ashido exclaimed, holding the briefcase with her costume in it in the air excitedly.
"Be sure to speak properly," Said Aizawa, "Such as saying 'yes sir', Ashido, and don't forget your manners when you're with the other Heroes, understood?"
"Yes sir." Ashido said, her enthusiasm deflated.
"Good." Aizawa nodded, "Now it's time for you all to head out, so hop to it."
"Right, you got it!" Moxie shouldered his two backpacks, one to each shoulder, and ran out of the train station, vehemently opposed to riding the trains. So what if his internship was a couple of miles away?
Hiryu shared a train with Iida, sitting next to him. Working up her courage for several minutes she turned towards him.
"I-Iida…"
"Hm? What is it, Hiryu?" Iida asked.
"I-I heard about your brother, i-is he alright? Will you be alright?" Hiryu asked quickly.
"I appreciate your concern, but everything is alright." Iida gave her a reassuring smile. Hiryu wanted to press it further, but couldn't bring herself to, deciding to just sit in silence instead.
Sometime later, Moxie arrived at his internship. He was slower than the trains, being unable to use his Quirk to a more noticeable extent, but he still arrived quickly. He skidded to a halt in front of the agency, bouncing in place for a minute before knocking on the massive door.
It took a while for someone to answer the door, but when they did, they flung it open suddenly, and a black-haired boy was standing in the doorway. He stared at Moxie intensely, the pressure was intense, but Moxie just took it as a challenge and held his ground.
The boy stared for another second before turning around and running over to the far wall, placing his forehead against it.
"I-I can't do it." The boy said, determinedly staring at the wall.
"Ah well, ya tried." The Pro Hero Fatgum shrugged, appearing from around a corner, "'Dat's da' important 'ting."
"Fatgum, right? What's all that about?" Moxie asked.
"Yeah, don't mind him, he's just shy. I've been tryin' ta' break him out o' his shell." Fatgum explained, "You the kid from U.A.?"
"Yep!" Moxie smiled.
"What's your name?" Fatgum asked.
"Moxie Usagi! Hero name, Jade Rabbit!" Moxie told Fatgum happily.
"Welcome aboard, kid!" Fatgum laughed, slapping Moxie on the back and nearly knocking him over.
Elsewhere, Hiryu stepped off her train and made her way through the city, drawings eyes to herself as she nervously walked along. Stopping outside her hero agency, she took a deep breath before knocking on the door.
After a minute, the door opened, and a Hero appeared. They wore a pair of black jeans and a light grey t-shirt.
"Yeah?" The Hero asked.
"I-I- um… I'm here for the w-work study?" Hiryu did her best to explain.
"Right, that dragon kid, we were told you'd be coming. Come on in and take a seat, the boss will be right with you." She gave Hiryu a bottle of water and left the room, leaving Hiryu on her own on the couch.
After a few minutes, the door slid open, and Gang Orca stepped out.
"Glad to see you made it." He nodded.
"Th-Thank you for having me…" Hiryu bowed politely.
"C'mon, I'll give you the rundown on how things work here." Gang Orca told her, gesturing for her to follow him.
Standing up, Hiryu held the still full water bottle in one hand, following Gang Orca through the sliding door.
And there we go! Yep, Fatgum and Gang Orca. You'll get to see Hiryu and Moxie in action next chapter, so sit tight!
Enigma, signing off.
