Chapter 13: Stoick's Sacrifice
Right next to Dragon Mountain, Valka and Cloudjumper are still trap next to Drago's Bewilderbeast. With Cloudjumper tail impaired, he struggles against a throng of oncoming dragons. Valka is knocked off, but manages to cling to her dragon's neck. As she loses her grip and falls…
Stoick leaps from Skullcrusher and catches Valka. He sinks his axe into an icy column, and they slide to a safe landing. Drago's Bewilderbeast presses closer, sniffing them out.
With Hiccup and Hicca, they've spotting Drago on the battlefield, commanding the Bewilderbeast to finish the job.
"Stop! Stop!" Hiccup yelled to Drago.
"Enoughs enough, Drago!" Hicca yelled out as she and her brother landed their Night Furies a few paces from Drago and brazenly removes their helmets to reveal their face.
Drago eye them, incredulous, then begins to chuckle. "This... is the great dragon master and great dragon healer? The childrens of Stoick the Vast? What a shame he must feel?" he mocked them.
Toothless and Midnight snarls, ready to blast, but Hiccup and Hicca calms them with a hand gesture.
"That's where you're wrong Drago." Hicca said in a stern voice.
Hiccup steps in with a stern as well. "All of this loss, and for what? To become unstoppable? To rule the world?" he asked incredulously at Drago, in responds from him, Drago smirks and turns away from them.
"You have to stop this Drago." Hicca continued for her brother. "Dragons are kind, amazing creatures that can bring people together." she finished.
Drago laughs mockingly at them, he set his bullhook to the ground and removes his false arm. "Or tear them apart." Drago replied as he revealed that is left arm is gone, nothing but a stump at his shoulder. Hiccup and Hicca were taken back at the sight. "Could've uses you for this 'Dragon Healer'." he said mockingly to Hicca as she narrows her eyes at him. He reattaches the prosthesis, circling the Haddock Twins menacingly. "You see, I know what it is to live in fear. To see my village burned, my family taken." he stated as he told about his past while the twins kept an eye on him as he continues. "But even as a boy, left with nothing, I vowed to rise above the fear of dragons and liberate the world." he declared while he looked at the Bewilderbeast with the dragons from the nest and to his army circling behind the alpha.
"Then why a dragon army?" Hiccup asked.
Drago grin and smug at them. "Well, you need dragons to conquer other dragons." he simply said.
"Or maybe you need dragons to conquer people." Hiccup replied with narrow eyes.
"To control those who follow you…" Hicca added with a narrow eyes matching her brother.
"And to get rid of those who won't." Hiccup finished with a stern look.
"Dad was right. You are without consciousness or mercy in your soul." Hicca said coldly while glaring at Drago.
Drago chuckles at them. "Clever boy. Clever girl." he admitted as he grabs his bullhook and re-approaches Hiccup and Hicca. Toothless and Midnight ready themselves.
"The world wants peace. And we have the answer, back on Berk." Hiccup suggested.
"Just let us show you how to make peace with them." Hicca added.
Drago declined it. "NO! Let ME show YOU both." he replied as he shrieks madly, summoning the Bewilderbeast.
Toothless and Midnight circles Hiccup and Hicca, protectively for anything that's gonna happen to them.
From the Bewilderbeast was about to blast Stoick and Valka. It hears Drago's distant wails, and approaches obediently.
Stoick and Valka saw this and are confuse on where it is going.
"What?" Stoick asked in confusing as he follows its stare to the distant battlefield below. He spots Hiccup, Hicca, Midnight and Toothless a few paces from Drago. "Hiccup! Hicca!" he yelled in a panicked voice as he rushes off. Valka follows, racing past Gobber as he finally joins them, winded from having run up the mountain. "Come on, Gobber!" he called out to him.
Gobber sigh in a little tired. "Okay, change of plans." he muttered to himself ass he hurries back down the mountain after them.
Back on the ground, Drago jabbing his bullhook into the ground commandingly. The Bewilderbeast flinches and stops, submissive.
"No dragon can resist the alpha's command." Drago explained. "So he who controls the alpha, controls them all." he added.
Drago points to Toothless and Midnight. The Bewilderbeast stares and hisses, forcing Toothless and Midnight to cower under a hypnotic ultrasonic broadcast. The two Night Furies struggles against the alpha's command, writhing and grinding their heads against the ground.
"Toothless? You okay, bud? What's going on?" Hiccup asked his dragon in concerned.
"Midnight? Are you alright girl?" Hicca asked worried to her dragon.
Toothless and Midnight fights the command, shaking their heads in protest. The Bewilderbeast insists, with a mesmerizing glare and a low, throaty grumble... until Toothless and Midnight finally succumbs to its control. They raises their heads, they stare vacant and robotic, as their pupils turn to slits.
"Witness true strength. The strength of will over others." Drago stated as he then points to Hiccup and Hicca. The Bewilderbeast responds, "In the face of it, you are nothing." The Bewilderbeast responds, hissing at Toothless and Midnight.
The two Night Furies slowly turns face to the Haddock Twins. Advancing on them.
"Uh, what did he just tell you two?" Hiccup asked the two dragons in slight fear.
"Midnight? What's going on with you and Toothless?" Hicca asked in fear as she and her brother backed away from their mind controlled dragons.
Stoick is bounding cross the ice, pushing himself to make it to Hiccup and Hicca in time.
On the mountain, the Night Furies kids are seeing the whole thing, being to young to be controlled by the alpha's control like the other hatchlings, they see their parents who are being controlled by the new alpha, and by their guess, they think their parents are gonna kill them, so thinking quick, the five Night Furies kids, with Darkie on the back of one of his siblings, flew out of the cave and heading straight to save Hiccup and Hicca.
Stoick saw the Night Furies younglings in a distance as they flew to where he is heading, he smiled, knowing that he won't have time to save both his children. Both sides are heading straight for them.
Back with Hiccup and Hicca, they are both still backing against a fallen ice, with Toothless and Midnight advancing mindlessly, nowhere to run.
"Toothless, what's the matter with you? What're you doing?" Hiccup asked his dragon in fear.
"Midnight, you and Toothless need to fight it! Don't let this alpha take away you free wills!" Hicca pleaded her dragon in attempts to get some sense into them back.
But their words were death to the mindless Night Furies as they both yawning their mouths. Gas seeps from their throats. Drago walked away, knowing that the two are toast.
"Knock it off! Stop! Snap out of it!" Hiccup called out to them but to no avail as their mind controlled dragons are inching closer to them.
Stoick barrels through ice formations and over war machines, racing against time as the Night Furies younglings are flying right beside him, racing against time as well.
"Toothless! No! Toothless! Don't!" Hiccup pleaded.
"Midnight! You can't do this! This isn't you!" Hicca pleaded as well.
"Hiccup! Hicca!" Stoick called out to his childrens in fear.
Toothless and Midnight are readying their plasma blast to fire.
"STOP!" Hiccup and Hicca called out in fear.
"KIDS!" Stoick yells to them loud enough and close enough for Hiccup and Hicca seeing their father about to run into the fray.
"DAD! NO!" Hiccup and Hicca yelled to their father into not getting close to them.
Toothless and Midnight blast at them, Stoick leaps in front of it, shoving Hiccup out of the way of Toothless' blast and absorbing the blast in the process. At the same time, the Night Furies younglings came to Hicca and pounced her and themselves away from Midnight's blast as it hit the pillars as Stoick is thrown against the ice with great impact.
With Valka, she heard the bast, horrified on what the Night Furies hit from their plasma blast as she came closer.
Back where the twins and their father are, Drago glances back, seeing Stoick laying lifeless in the aftermath, pleased by the sudden turn of events. He shuffles off, satisfied that his old enemy is now gone this time.
Hiccup and Hicca got up, the Night Furies younglings are next to them after they've saved Hicca from Midnight's blast. They were stun on what happen and what their dragons did, the Night Furies kids were a little shock on what their parents have done. Hiccup and Hicca comes to and sees Stoick in the rubble. They rushes past the still-entranced Midnight and Toothless, straining to scatter the ice boulders on top of Stoick's body.
"Dad!/Father!" Hiccup and Hicca both cried out.
Valka arrives, winded and aghast. "Stoick…" she called softly to her husband but with no responds. She helps Hiccup and Hicca to turn Stoick's body over. Valka presses her ear to Stoick's heart, confirming his death with a mere glance to Hiccup and Hicca. They tears up, overwhelmed.
"No… you…" Hiccup stamber in not believing that their father is now gone. He looked at his sister.
"There's nothing I can do for this one brother." Hicca said one the verge of tears as. She can do anything to bring back their father, but even as a healer, she can't raise the dead.
The Night Furies younglings came to the Haddock Twins sides. Nuzzling and cooing sadly to the Haddock Twins over to the death of their parent's riders father.
Gobber, Astrid, Raeda, Eret, and the Gang arrive, slack-jawed.
Satisfied, the Bewilderbeast turns away, releasing Toothless and Midnight off the trance-like state.
'Wha… What happened?' Toothless roared asked in confusing.
Midnight shook her head and then turned to where Stoick and the others are. 'Toothless, did we just?' she asked in wabled in not believing what they just did.
'No. No.' Toothless wabled in shock as he and his mate approaches the group, sniffing Stoick's hand.
"No! Get away from him!" Hiccup yelled angrily at them.
'Hiccup, Hicca… we didn't mean to…' Toothless recoiles innocently in guilt over what they have done.
"GO ON! GET OUT OF HERE! GET AWAY!" Hiccup and Hicca yelled angrily at them in rage and grief of their lost of their father.
Toothless and Midnight where shock on wat they said, but comply to their words as they both retreats like scolded dogs, ear plates back and head hung low. Valka watches, broken-hearted, as both Hiccup and Hicca falls upon Stoick, inconsolable.
"It's not their fault. You two know that." Valka stated to them as the alpha bellows, calling all of the dragons to gather. Meatlug, Stormfly, Raeda, Hookfang and the others all follow the command as the Gang calls after them. "Good dragons under the control of bad people do bad things." she finished
Drago notices Toothless tumble down a snow-bank, once again he and Midnight have slit-eyed and entranced, but Toothless is unable to fly to the alpha without a rider while Midnight can't leave her mate behind since they are always together. Drago pins Toothless down, eyeing the saddle, pedals, and prosthetic tail.
The Haddock Twins and Valka watches with tears in their eyes along side the Night Furies kids, watching their parents being controlled, and since they are too young to be taking orders to the alpha's, they are safe.
Drago finally got on Toothless' saddle and rise up to the air with Midnight next to her mate. "GATHER THE MEN AND MEET AT BERK!" he called out to his men as his soldiers cheer in the thousand.
The Haddock Twins were in shock on what they've done and what he said. "Toothless!/Midnight!" both Hiccup and Hicca called out as the Night Furies younglings roared sadly to their parents. They were thinking on flying to them, but they scared and can't expose themselves to dragon then they already did. Hiccup and Hicca tries to go after their Night Furies, but Valka holds them down.
"No, don't!" Valka told her children in knowing that it would be too risky.
Drago jabs his bull hook and points toward the horizon. The alpha bellows, commanding an exodus as it leads the way.
"Move out!" he called out as he and his army move out of sight. Leaving the riders, a dead chief and five sad Night Furies younglings at the abandon Dragon Mountain as they are looking on their failure.
Hiccup and Hicca watches, powerless as all dragons take wing and follow. They failed to listen to their parents, they've failed to reason to Drago, they've failed to stop a war, and worsed of all, they've failed their dragons.
