Chapter 13

Cara sat at her desk getting things done on the computer. Most of the work they had her do, if she wasn't doing anything else was on the computer. Her brother sat in front of her watching her work. She looked up at him as he just sat there staring at her. "What?"

"So, I hung out with Harmony last night. She seems nice but not very smart," Derek replied

"We know," Cara looked at him. Spike sat next to her seeing her brother talking to her.

"I like her I'm just not so sure," Derek said thinking.

"Ok let's just get down to it, Do you like her or are you just using her for sex?" Cara asked her. Spike heard her liking the fact that she just got to the point instead of letting things drag out.

"Well...I" Derek hesitated.

"It's a simple question."

"Ok, I kind of like her, just want to see where it goes." Derek admitted.

"Good luck mate," Spike looked at him.

"Who knows maybe it will work," Cara shrugged.

"I haven't had a girlfriend in a year." Cara looked at that rolling her eyes knowing she went on without having anyone.

"I lasted longer than you," Cara reminded him. Spike's arm was around her chair when she leaned back.

"Hey that blonde chick is rude," Harmony came up to them.

"Why?"

"Angel's appointment, she's already all over him showing more chest than anything ew," Harmony looked back at her.

They all looked back seeing her in the office "She's ok looking I guess," Derek tried peaking through the office.

"Spike?" Derek looked at him.

"She's ok," he shrugged.

"I think I need to save him before she gets too crazy. You trust me?" Cara looked at Spike.

"You know I do love," Cara kissed him briefly getting up seeing Angel was in a bind. She could tell how uncomfortable this woman was making him.

She walked in seeing the girl hanging all over him. "Really honey you're going to let this chick hang all over you?" Cara gave him the que to go along with her and he got what she meant. She took a few steps back while Cara put her arm around Angel while he was leaning against the desk. He played along wrapping his arm around her.

"So I get it your taken?" She questioned him.

"Yeah," he looked at her. I will let you know what we decide on," Angel looked at her.

"I just hope when he is making love to you he thinks of me," The girl came up to you.

"I highly doubt that," Cara looked at her annoyed. The lady picked up her stuff leaving his office. They waited until the elevator closed and they let each other go.

"Thanks," he said nicely.

"What the hell did she do try to have sex with you in the office?" Cara noticed his clothes wrinkled.

Cara's brother and Spike came into the office seeing how Angel's clothes looked. "Good god, you could have shagged her," Spike said looking at him.

"Not my type," Angel looked at Spike.

"Wow," Derek said laughing.

"Spike could have traded and pretended to be you," Cara looked at him.

"I couldn't do that you," Spike looked at her.

"It would have been funny actually." His arm went around her waist holding on to her. Her brother noticed how affectionate he was towards her. Derek thought it was nice that he always had his ways of showing how much he loved her. Not many guys she had before has been this nice to her before.

"I guess you were kind of a romantic type when it came to women?" Derek asked Spike.

"I would have been none of them gave me the chance to until now," Spike looked at his lover.

Derek got up leaving them alone together at the desk. Cara got a text needing her to do some evening footwork. "Looks like I got to go after someone tonight," she said reading her text.

It was close to the evening and they had put her on the job to find a guy that had escaped. He was considered an armed robber that they had been trying to track down. Cara was at the location that he was supposively located at. She knew who to look for going to the underground subway.

There were some gunshots fired that she heard coming from inside. Cara went inside the subway getting closer seeing the guy "Police," she yelled at him. He ran trying to escape as she chased him in the subway. He exited out of it running up the stairs into the city while she was chasing him. The guy ran into an alleyway and Cara stopped pulling out her gun.

It was dark making it difficult for her to see. She pulled out her flashlight shinning it down the alley way. Something had moved off to the side causing her to point her gun. Slowly, she walked in the darkness trying not to make any sudden movements. She heard a gun shot her direction with the bullet missing her. Then she heard the guy scream running towards her direction. The cop cars had shown up taking the guy into custody.

She talked to them a minute before they had left her. Cara made a call to the police letting them know what was going on checking in. When she hung up the phone, she started walking towards home. "Spike, I know your here," she called out o him.

"I scared the hell out of them," he said coming up to her.

"I noticed that." Both of them walked to the graveyard doing a nightly patrol. There was a vampire that had saw them going toward them. Cara punched them across the face and they went to attack her again. She tripped him on the ground able to stand up quick enough before they could stand up. She went up behind him catching them off guard staking him from behind.

Her lips met his as she turned around kissing him a moment. "You are so cute," she pulled back to look at him.

Spike laughed at that a little holding her. "You're beautiful love, I couldn't ask for anything more."

"You're trying to out do me, I get it," she said still holding him. Both of them were talking along with him stealing a kiss here or there. They were like two lovey dovey people when it came down to it. "Figured i'd find you here," They both let each other go seeing Riley coming towards them.

"Bloody hell," Spike said not too excited to see him.

"Hey," Cara said seeing him.

"Can we talk?" He asked her.

"What do you want?" Spike eyed him.

"This guy you're after, we're after him as well." Riley looked at them.

"You can't kill him with a stake and he walks in the day. Wes get's back tomorrow and we will look into it then," Cara explained.

"He's killed a couple of our people," Riley explained.

"For some reason he's after her," Spike decided to mentioned it to him.

"He did call me princess, I'm not sure what that was about, It was a little awkward actually," Cara explained.

"Either way we want him dead."

Cara stood there thinking about what they read in the library about him. "Wait a second, it's guy wanting vengeance on everyone along a with girl. Girl doesn't love crazy guy, so crazy guy grows jealous and wants to kill the person who has girl." Cara said having an idea how this is playing out.

"Makes sense." she heard Angel coming up to them. "What's he doing here?" Angel asked them.

"He was wanting to talk to me," she answered Angel.

Riley figured he got enough information leaving before Angel decided to fight him again.

"He has no business with you," Spike said annoyed at the situation.

"There comes the male dominate side coming in," Cara said sarcastically.

"You are mine love, we do protect what's ours," Spike reminded her.

"Hey just saying it how I'm hearing it," she shrugged. Cara's phone started to ring seeing it was her brother calling.

"Where are you?" He said on the other line.

"Graveyard, why?"

"I'm coming up there right now," he said hanging up.

Within a few minutes, Derek walked towards them seeing them standing around talking. "Hey, mom wants you to call her." He said coming up to them.

"Not talking to her, that woman has issues." Cara said annoyed.

"You never want to talk to her," Derek complained.

"She knows I have nothing to say to her and no I don't want to talk about it." Cara said annoyed.

Both vampires looked between the two sensing something must have happened to her to not want to say anything. Spike didn't know what happened but could read her emotions pretty well.

"Please love, tell me what a happened," Spike said calmly taking her hands in his.

"It's something I don't want to remember," Cara admitted.

Angel looked at Derek then back at Cara. "Mom wouldn't tell me where you were when you were gone," Derek siad upset.

"You were only five, I was nine. When I started noticing myself becoming stronger, I was able to slowly start breaking things I didnt know I was capable of breaking. Mom saw that as something wrong with me, so she threw me in the mental institute. She thought she could fix it by drugging me with meds almost killing me. Dad took me out of there and then eventually got you." Cara explained.

"What? How could she?" Derek said angry.

"Dad didn't want you to know." Cara explained.

"She tried killing you?" Angel asked shocked.

"She thought then that there was something genetically wrong with me," Cara looked at him.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Spike questioned her.

"I guess it was something that was never really brought up." Spike pulled her in a hug feeling nothing but sympathy for her. "I was just a kid." Cara held him.

"Still it's not right pet." Spike looked at her.

"I know, I helped take care of Derek when dad took us." Cara said with her arms around his neck.

"The good thing is your here," Angel said nicely.

"Yeah I guess, it gave me a reason to put up with him," Cara looked at Derek.

They all decided to head to the bar for a drink. All of them sat at a table and the waitress served them their beers. "You got me in to trouble," Cara said remembering their childhood.

"What did I do?"

"You didn't like this guy, so he went and grabbed poop from somewhere putting it in a bag and lit it on fire in front of his house," Cara explained.

"Oh yeah, that guy was an ass," Derek said remembering.

"What did you burn his house down?" Spike asked him.

"No just make it stink really bad." Derek laughed.

"Then he had me run out and put toilet paper all over his friend's car once." Cara explained.

"We've done a lot of stupid things." Derek remembered. The guys laughed a little at that listening to the stories they told about them.

"We will be back on track when Wes gets in tomorrow," Angel changed the subject.

"That's if they don't call me in for a big drug bust or something," Cara replied. They sat their talking a moment until they heard someone screaming. Luckily Cara still had her badge on getting up to see what was going on. She walked over to the side door finding a dead body outside the door. "Police move." she showed everyone her badge making a phone call at the same time.

Within a few minutes, a couple of cop cars had shown up. Spike walked her direction seeing her standing outside. He noticed the body looked new, so the killing just happened. She grabbed Spike's hand leading him with her outside standing behind her. The coroner and the rest of the investigation department had shown up. Cara moved out of the way letting them do their job.

Angel called her phone. "Yeah?" Cara answered. She talked on the phone letting him know what was going on out the side door. The conversation was brief until she had to get back to work. Her boss had decided to show up getting out of his car. "Have you been on this?" He questioned her.

"Been on it and have no leads," she answered him.

He noticed Spike standing next to her "Who's he?"

"That's Spike, he is helping me out," she answered him.

"I was going to put you with a partner."

"I'm quite capable of helping her," Spike looked at her boss.

"He is," Cara agreed with him. He thought a moment before answering.

"Whatever, since you have someone, I expect you to work together on this both of you." He said in a firm tone.

"Yes sir."

"Then he is your partner, he will eat, sleep, and work with you is that understood?"

"Yes."

"Good, get this cleaned up and I want the press out of this," he said giving orders to people.

Spike looked at her a little surprise her boss wanted him to work with her. He was always with her no matter what the reason anyway. "Sorry he's kind of an ass." Cara said looking at Spike.

"I'm use to it." Cara got done with what she needed to do. They headed to her apartment making it to her door unlocking it. They walked in tossing their stuff on the couch going into the bedroom. Cara stopped a moment causing Spike to look over at her.

"What?" He looked at her.

"Something has been here," she said looking around. Spike looked around starting to sense what she was feeling. Cara noticed the window was broken next to her bed.

"Who could have broken in here?" She said looking around.

"Another vampire." Spike answered her.

Cara called Angel letting him know what had happened. He had them stay with him. She packed her stuff she would need to bring with her. It didn't take her long to get things together then leaving. They went into the back of the building were Angel's place was located. He had her take the spare room for now. Cara set her stuff down on the ground sitting on the bed. Both men came in the room seeing her sitting on the bed.

"How did he figure out where I lived?" Cara wondered.

"Not sure if anyone told him," Angel answered her.

"The important thing is your safe pet," Spike sat beside her.

"Next thing you know he'll be stalking me," Cara said sarcastically.

"Get some rest," Angel said leaving her alone.

Cara laid there on the bed kicking her shoes off. Spike stayed with her lying beside her facing her. "I don't want anything to happen to you," Cara looked at him.

"I'll be fine love, I'm not going anywhere." He assured her.

"Spike, I've never loved anyone as much as I love you. I'm willing to do anything to make sure that you'll be alright. I know whatever you would do for me, I'd be willing to do for you. I'm nothing without you here," she looked at him.

"I know." Spike knew she was a strong person. Anything she has ever done or said to him made him love her so much more than the last. He snuggled up to her as she laid beside him holding him. Spike wouldn't let anyone or anything come in between them.
