Izuku stood just past the finish line, enjoying the silence of the coliseum. He basked in it, knowing he had created it. The sounds of his fellow classmates could be heard in the distance, rapidly approaching. The crowd remembered its place and erupted in noise as the front runner came into view. Lida Tenya was running full speed, having opened the engines in his legs up to their highest gear. He had been training hard for years, and the speed at which he could run was slightly unfair in an event that was supposed to be a race.
He skidded to a stop as he passed the finish line, gaping openly at Izuku. "Midoriya, I must ask, what did you do to us?"
"I just held you all in place so I could have a nice walk. I didn't feel like racing, but I had to claim first place."
"Ahh, I see. And in that case, WHAT are you wearing?"
Izuku looked down at himself, smirking. "Ahh, well, we are allowed to wear our hero costumes for any part of the event as long as they don't give us a competitive advantage. I chose to wear my new hero costume."
Lida looked concerned as he asked, "In what way is that a hero costume? It's just a suit."
"Actually, Lida, It's a tuxedo. A very special tuxedo. The silk is incredibly comfortable and breathes nicely. Additionally, it has titanium and Kevlar threads woven into it. It's as bullet proof as a vest, with the added benefit of being significantly more flattering. Don't you agree? Also, you may want to step to the side, I believe we are about to have company."
With that, Izuku took several quick steps to the side as students began streaming through the finish line. Lida was caught up in the flow and had no time to respond. He also didn't notice as Izuku stepped into a doorway and vanished.
Izuku took a deep breath and sagged against the wall of the hallway. "Holy crap that was draining," he thought to himself. "I wasn't sure I could hold them all from this far away and for that long, but I managed it somehow." He grinned, still breathing heavily. "What a show though, huh? Were you watching, Toga-Chan? Were you watching, Mom?" He took one last steadying breath and moved back outside, knowing that the hard part was over.
Once outside, he was mobbed by his fellow competitors, all of whom wanted to know what he had done to them. "It was like hands were all over my body, holding me in place," was what everyone seemed to be saying. He noticed that while most seemed mildly annoyed, a few of the girls were blushing profusely, unable to meet his eye.
"Interesting," he thought, and filed that away for later.
"YEOOOOOW, WHAT AN EXCITING RACE, RIGHT LISTENERS?!" Present Mic's voice blared across the stadium and was met with a roar of approval from the crowd. "THE SECOND EVEN WILL BE HELD AFTER A SHORT BREAK, SO EVERYONE STRETCH YOUR LEGS AND GET HYPED!"
Present Mic turned to the other teachers in the sky box and said, "What the HELL was that? How am I supposed to commentate something so slow and one-sided?"
Aizawa said calmly, "I think that was his intent. He wanted everyone to only be paying attention to him, not listening to the caster comments. Still, I didn't know he was this strong. It's mildly frightening to think that a single person could do what he just did."
"It's a good thing he's an aspiring hero, then, isn't it?" Principal Nezu was trying to reassure everyone, but he couldn't hide the concern in his voice.
Down on the field, Izuku was looking for a very specific person. He spotted her and approached the group of girls she was talking to. "Tsunotori Pony? May I have a word?"
The girl spun around to face him, completely startled. She blushed profusely while the rest of the girls giggled.
"Y-Yes, I suppose." She managed to stutter out before following him to a more private section of the stadium.
"I know we haven't talked much in the past, but I'd like to team up for the cavalry battle."
Pony paused for a moment, taken aback by his abruptness. Then she blushed even harder than she had been and stuttered out, "What, you want to ride the Pony? Is that it?" She turned around and started to storm away as Izuku's voice stopped her in her tracks.
"Actually, I was planning on carrying you."
Pony stood there, her back to Izuku for a moment, making sure she had heard him right. "Then why me?" she asked. "I know what boys want, I'm not stupid. We've never really talked before, this is way too sudden for anything else."
"Actually, I wanted to have a chance to get to know you better so we could talk about America. I should have been more friendly to you all along, as the exchange student, but I didn't understand how lonely it could be, I'm sorry."
Pony turned to see him bowing deeply to her. She thought that if she blushed any harder she would faint, but she managed to take a deep breath and say, "Yes."
Izuku looked up into her eyes and said, "You may have a couple of your friends join us, if you'd like, but I'm most interested in starting to get to know you."
"YEOOOOOOW, LISTENERS TAKE YOUR SEATS, IT'S TIME FOR THE SECOND EVENT TO START!"
Izuku grimaced at the blaring voice and grinned. "I guess we should get back out there."
He let Pony rush off to grab two of her friends to join them as he walked calmly back to the stadium. He knew he had nothing to worry about.
"YOU KNOW WHAT COMES NEXT LISTENERS! IT'S TIME FOR THE CAVALRY BATTLE! FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT IS, UP TO THREE STUDENTS WILL CARRY A FOURTH ON THEIR SHOULDERS! IF THE RIDER TOUCHES THE GROUND, THAT TEAM IS OUT! EACH TEAM WILL HAVE A HEADBAND CONTAINING THE COMBINED POINT VALUE OF THE TEAM, AS DETERMINED BY THEIR PLACEMENT IN THE RACE EVENT! THE OBJECT IS TO STEAL THE HEADBANDS FROM THE OTHER TEAMS WHILE PROTECTING YOUR OWN! YOU NOW HAVE FIVE MINUTES TO GET INTO TEAMS AND THE EVENT WILL START!"
Pony and her friends had come to stand next to Izuku and heard him as he muttered under his breath, "It's like you can hear the exclamation points. Holy crap."
Ibara had been giggling until that last part. "It's not proper to invoke the divine in such a way, Midoriya-san."
Izuku was amused by her stern expression, but managed to keep a straight face as he bowed deeply and said, "I apologize, It won't happen again."
Ibara blushed at his earnestness and stuttered out, "I-It's OK, I-I know not everyone is as religious as I am."
Setsuna clapped her hands and said "Alright Izuku, Pony said that you were planning on carrying her, does that mean that you want me and Ibara-chan to both be on the ground? Neither of us are particularly mobile compared to her, and honestly, we don't know how mobile you are either."
Izuku smiled broadly. "Actually, Tokage-san, I plan on carrying all three of you."
All three girls stared at him, mouths gaping open.
"ALRIGHT LISTENERS, IT'S TIME TO GET THIS ROLLING! THE TIMER HAS FIFTEEN MINUTES ON IT, LET'S GET IN POSITION!"
Izuku leaned his cane against the wall of the coliseum before placing the bandana gently on Pony's neck and placing his hands on her hips. He picked her up, placing her on his shoulders before turning to the other two. He wrapped an arm around each of their waists, pulling them close to his chest, and said, "Try not to scream."
"GOOOOOOOOO!"
As Present Mic's voice blared across the stadium, Izuku bent his knees, his eyes blazing green and jumped.
Setsuna couldn't help but scream as they rocketed straight up into the air. She closed her eyes tightly and clung to Izuku, waiting for them to fall to their deaths. After a moment their ascent stopped, but then, nothing else happened. She opened her eyes and gaped at what she was seeing.
The four of them were standing in mid-air above the coliseum. The people in there looked tiny, like ants, they had to be at least a thousand feet in the air, well out of the reach of anyone else.
Izuku smiled at her, eyes still blazing green as he said, "I wanted to have a conversation, and all that noise down there would have made it hard."
Setsuna could indeed hear the voice of Present Mic Sensei and the sounds of the other student's battles, even from this far away.
"What did you want to talk about, Izuku-kun?" Ibara sounded calm, despite the fear that showed on her face.
"He wanted to get to know us better, he said. He wanted to talk about America." Pony looked delighted. She was used to flying because of her own quirk, but she had never flown under someone else's power before.
Izuku was mildly annoyed at her slip-up. He had wanted to get to know her better. Just her. He had no use for the other two and had just offered to bring them along to get on her good side. He didn't let his annoyance show as he said, "Yes, I'm interested in how heroes work in other countries, and thought that Tsunotori-san's expertise would be much more valuable than just reading from a book."
Pony looked truly delighted at this and launched into an explanation of how the hero system in America differed from the one here in Japan, and how it was the same.
Setsuna was genuinely interested as well and listened along with Izuku who was paying rapt attention. Ibara, however, was distracted by the hand on her waist, and the firm chest pressed against her. She had never been this close to a boy before, and she was blushing while struggling to control the impure thoughts that flashed through her mind.
Izuku noticed the heat coming off of Ibara, but chose to say nothing. He wasn't used to all of this particular type of attention that the girls around him seemed to be giving. "It must be the tux," he thought, and went back to listening to Pony.
After fifteen minutes had passed, they heard Present Mic calling the end of the event. Izuku dropped, slowing his descent as they neared the ground. His classmates were glaring at him, obviously frustrated with his complete disregard for the second event, while winning it by doing, effectively, nothing.
"WHILE QUITE THE UNORTHODOX METHOD, TEAM TSUNOTORI HAS WON THE SECOND EVENT BY PROTECTING THEIR OWN HEADBAND, WHICH, WITH MIDORIYA ON THE TEAM, WAS WORTH MORE THAN ALL THE OTHER HEADBANDS COMBINED!"
The crowd roared its approval.
