Chapter 23

"Joanna we came here so that you could reassure John, Dean and Sam that you and Amelia are fine. We did not come for you go to Nebraska." Cas said after Jo came rushing in after talking to Dean.

"Jo…maybe we should talk about this," Jody said.

Jo looked between her friend and the angel, they didn't understand…she just wanted to see her Mom one last time and to see the man her father became. "Jody, I need to do this."

Jo was surprised when John stood up and stood behind her. "Don't see why we're discussing this. She doesn't need your permission."

Jody eyes the elder Winchester and shook her head. "We have a 72 hour window…"

"And the Roadhouse is only six hours from here. We have plenty of time." Dean argued.

"Jody…Cas…please I need to do this."

Jody sighed as turned toward John and said, "do you have a car seat?"

The elder Winchester smiled, "we kept everything we had bought for Amelia before Jo left."

"Well then we're going to install it in the back of Baby before we hit the road." The older woman said as she followed John out and prayed they were doing the right thing.

Dean pulled up in front of The Roadhouse as John and Sam pulled in behind them. He looked over at Jo and saw the way she stared at the building. She had explained how in her dimension that her Roadhouse had been destroyed in an explosion.

He reached over and placed his hand over hers. "You okay Sweetheart?"

"I know I'm being silly but I'm a little afraid."

"This is your rodeo Jo. It's up to you whether we go in or not." Dean told her.

Jo chewed on her lower lip, "what if I do something to make them suspicious?"

"We've got your back Jo," he reassured her. He looked into the back and saw Jody unsnapping Amelia and taking her out of her car seat as the angel stepped out of the car.

Jo nodded her head as she reached down and opened the car door. "I want to see them," she said.

John came and stood next to Jo and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "You ready kiddo?" He asked as he watched Jody come around carrying Ami.

Jo nodded her head as she held her arms out for Ami. "I think so," she told the older Winchester.

Jody frowned as she looked at her friend, "if you're not sure Jo, we can head back."Jody smiled as she passed Jo the infant. "It's not too late to change your mind.

"I know you think I'm crazy but I need to do this," she told Jody.

"I don't think you're crazy and I'm sorry if that's how I made you feel," the older woman said as she reached over and squeezed Jo's shoulder.

Jo smiled at the older woman as Sam joined them.

"Maybe Jody and Castiel should stay out here." Sam said as he joined them.

"No way," Jody argued.

"Well Jo and Jody wouldn't be hard explain but how are we going to explain three adults and an infant?" Sam asked.

"We can say they're friends of Bobby's that we helped them and now we're bringing them back to Sioux Falls." John said.

Dean winced, "Sam's right. The threesome is going to be hard to explain but two women would be believable."

"We can't just leave Castiel outside," Jo argued.

John sighed, "Fine we tell them Jo is Jody's sister Jen and the angel is Jody's husband. That while you two were visiting Jen and her baby in Kansas that you three were targeted by an angry spirit and that Bobby sent us to help you. Now you're on their way back to Sioux Falls and Jen decided to come back with you."

"Sounds like a good enough cover story," Jody said as she looked over at Castiel. "Do you think you can play dutiful husband?"

The five humans winced when the angel forced a manic smile on his face and took Jody's hand in his.

"Um, no offense but dial back that grin. Think less serial killer, more casual." Dean said with a shake of his head.

Jo snorted at the affronted look on the angel's face before taking a deep breath and the small party of hunters made their way to the entrance of The Roadhouse.

"Hey Babe, did you remember to put in the supply order?" Bill called out to his wife.

Ellen rolled her eyes, "In thirty five years have I ever forgotten to put in a supply order?" she asked with a huff.

Bill grinned at the woman as he walked over to her and pulled her close. "No ma'am," he said before he lowered his mouth and kissed her.

"Fool," Ellen teased as she wrapped her arms around her husband's neck, leaning up and kissing him again. The couple pulled apart when the door opened and they heard a shocked gasped.

"We're closed," Ellen called over her shoulder as she kissed her husband again.

"Get a room you two," Dean said with a teasing laugh as he draped his arm around Jo's shoulder.

"Oh Hell, what are you three doing here?" Bill called out as he grinned and walked over to the group and pulling the elder Winchester into a one arm hug while his wife hugged Dean and Sam.

"We're just escorting these fine folks to Sioux Falls," Dean said as he wrapped his arm around Jo's waist and made the introductions. "Ellen, Bill this is Jody, her husband Cas, her sister Jen and the cutie Jen's carrying is her daughter Ami."

Ellen eyebrow shot up at the way Dean was holding the blonde woman in front of them and her eyes drifted to the baby in her arms. She frowned as she took in the sleeping infant's delicate features, there were something so familiar about the child.

"Well don't just stand there, come on in and sit down." Bill said pointing towards a couple of tables near the bar that Sam and John help drag together while Ellen went behind the bar. Soon the tables were littered with beer bottles, shot glasses and several bottles of Jim Beam and Johnny Walker.

Jo watched the older couple in awe. She looked over when Dean reached out under the table and squeezed her knee. He nodded his head slightly to encourage her to talk to them.

She chewed on her lower lip as she considered what to say but before she could work up the courage to speak Amelia decided to wake up and demanded her mother's attention.

"Sorry," Jo murmured to the others as she shushed her crying daughter. "What's wrong baby, are you hungry?"

Ellen smiled at the young mother as she leaned in to get a better peek at the baby. "Yup that's definitely a hungry cry," she said as she gazed down at the child. She gasped slightly when the baby looked up at Ellen and she saw a pair of sparkling brown eyes staring back at her. Eyes that she would know anywhere.

The other all looked up in shock when Ellen stood up and pulled out the .45 she carried tucked in the back of her jeans and pointed it towards the newcomers. "Nice and easy, give the baby to my husband." She ordered.

"Ellen, what the Hell are you doing?" Bill asked in horror.

"Her eyes…look at the baby's eyes." She commanded him.

Bill leaned over as he held his arms out towards the woman they were introduce to as Jen. His heart broke for her when he saw the fear clearly written on her face as she tentatively passed her daughter to him.

Bill looked into the child's eyes like his wife told him and gulped as he realized why Ellen had pulled the gun and he looked up at the woman across from him before turning accusatory eyes towards the other hunters. "What have you boys done? What fucking deal did you make? How did you bring our baby back to us?"

"Crap," Jody hissed under her breath as she shot a look over at Jo.

"Bill…Ellen that child isn't your daughter…she isn't your Joanna." John told them as he stood up.

"That is my baby," Ellen said as she looked at the infant again.

"She's not," Jo said as she slowly stood up and stood in front of Ellen.

"I know my baby," Ellen argued.

Dean slowly got to his feet and stood behind Jo with his hands on her shoulders. "No Ellen…Ami's not your daughter..she's…she's…" He stammered.

"She's your granddaughter," Jo finish softly.

Author's Note: Honestly I hope I never wrote previously that Ami had green eyes like Dean. I looked through my who story and could find anything if I did...I'm putting it down to having a senior moment. I needed Ami to look more like Jo as an infant so that Ellen would think the baby was her daughter.
