Chapter 12
-Shirakawa village-
-Narrator-
Our duo get out of the old Kamaji's house and makes their way toward their new home. At least they hope they will be able to call it as such.
"Here we are." The knight says with her hands on her hips. "Are you ready?" She asks Kotai.
"Yes." He nods.
Kamui tries to open the door but it won't budge.
And they don't have the keys... Is this some kind of joke? The petite girl does not know.
She starts to wonder if the old man is already senile or if it was planned.
"Kotai..." The boy tenses up at the annoyed voice. "Do you wanna see a magic trick?" She says with a really creepy smile, showing her 28 teeth.
The knight focuses on the door before punching a hole in the door where the doorknob is supposed to be. It should surprise the boy, but he knew something this disproportionate would happen anyway.
"Tadaa." She says gesturing for the albino to come inside.
As he takes his first step inside and sees... nothing, the curtains are all closed and the light coming from the door only shows the dust flying in the air. He turns around, only to see his guardian looking at his trail in the dust.
"*sigh* Let's clean this before I get sick." She goes to the curtains and opens them before opening the windows. But how did she knew where the windows where? Kotai adds it to his list of 'Miss Kamui's unsolved mysteries'.
"I will need your help for this." She says, searching for the cleaning furniture. "You will start to sweep the dust as I move everything outside. Ok?"
The boy nods and grabs the broom with a determined face.
"Let's do it then." She says grabbing the big wooden table and going outside.
After she moves half of the furniture outside the house under the gaze of the gobsmacked villagers, the old chief finally arrives at the scene.
Only to see Kamui getting out of the house, carrying a bed on her back without breaking a sweat.
"What is going on here?" The old man asks after taking back his fallen jaw.
"We are cleaning the house obviously." She continues to put everything outside "Wait." The knight poses what she is doing and looks intently at the corner of the house. "Is that a mouse?"
"Is this edible?" Kotai asks with an innocent voice.
"No." The answer he gets is really short and straightforward.
The old Kamaji enters the house and takes notice of the hole in the door. "What happened to the door?"
"Well, it is pretty simple actually." She puts down the chair outside. "There were no keys so we have created a way to enter." She explains as if it was the most obvious thing to do.
"You should have asked me." The old man says with an exasperated tone.
The knight shrugs her shoulders as she grabs a dresser doing almost the double of her height as if it was a simple plank of wood. "I will just make a new one." She says going outside. "Plus, I don't like green."
Kamaji almost falls over after hearing her declaration.
All of the scene unfolds in front of Toru as she finally understand the unmeasurable strength of the knight. Sweat falls of her forehead as she think back at all the time she could have killed everyone.
And now she allowed this 'monster' into Maiko's village, what type of friend is she? Putting everyone in danger.
But it is too late, the girl-like looking monster is already installed now, she can do nothing about it.
As she is lost in her thoughts, she makes eye contact with the blonde girl who immediately looks down to avoid any interaction with the maiden.
Anyway, Toru has to go back to the shrine with Maiko before the sun sets.
She grabs the bags, turns around and heads to the field where she hopes to find her little Maiko-chan.
The latter is still playing with the superactive twins in the middle of the red and yellow flowers.
"Maiko-chan!" Toru calls from the other side of the field.
The brunette walks to her fellow maiden with the twins in tow. "It's already time?" "Can't you stay Onee-chan?" They beg with small pouts.
"I am sorry but I have my duties at the shrine waiting for me." She pats their head.
"Ok" They say looking down in defeat.
Maiko grabs her bag from the arms of Toru and starts to make her way to the shrine before turning around and waving at Aiko and Aimi. "See you next week!"
"Bye bye!" "Come back soon!" They reply also waving.
...
"How was it?" The brunette asks.
"She threatened the old Kamaji and broke the door of her new house for no reason." These are half truces but the younger miko does not need to know that, the further she is from this 'monster' the better.
The brunette focuses at the ground with a saddened look. "Oh. T-that is unfortunate."
It breaks Toru's heart to see her Maiko-chan so sad, but she is not at fault, this blonde 'demon' is the cause of all of it. That's true, if she was not here, Maiko would not know her and she would not be heartbroken because of the petite girl attitude.
But there is no need to worry about that.
Toru will always protect all of her fellow maiden.
Always.
-Half past Seven pm-
After 5 hours, and all lot of furniture moved by the strong blonde, Kotai and her are relaxing in the cleaned living room with all the furniture belonging to the only side room piled up in a corner.
The house that has been given to them is composed of a living room and a room, nothing more but enough for now.
"Living room finished, tomorrow we will clean the side room, ok?" The knight says, lying down on the armchair with her legs dangling on the side.
Kotai stomach suddenly growls as he blushes.
Kamui facepalms while letting her head hanging on the side of her seat. "I forgot about lunch." She stands up. "I guess it is dried meat today."
As the petite girl starts to rummage through her bag, a knock can be heard at the door.
Kotai opens it, as his guardian is busy, only for the old Kamaji to step in. "Good evening, since it is your first day, I thought you would like some food." He says before seeing Kamui with dried meat in her mouth and hands.
"Hum?" She looks over her shoulder before standing up.
The man is shocked to see the living room so clean after only half a day. At first he thought the blonde girl would destroy everything and vandalize the home of the deceased Daiki, but it has never been this lively before.
"So... Old man, what do you think?" Kamui asks, as if she has read his mind while taking the basket from his hand and putting it on the clean table.
As she starts to unravel the food, the chief answers. "It is really lovely here. He says, still admiring their hard work. "And I am ashamed to have assumed that you were a vandal."
While they are talking, Kotai can be seen in the background looking at the food with stars in his eyes.
"As I thought." She sits back down on the armchair. "You know... You don't trust me." The old man tenses up a little bit. "And I don't trust you either." She continues. "So... I understand how you feel, kinda." He breathes a sigh of relief.
"But if you try anything shady." The knight looks at him with a small frown. "I can't assure you will be able to wake up to see the next morning." She says, with a nonchalant tone, as if she didn't just threatened the poor villager.
The old man gulps before agreeing to her terms.
"Don't worry, we won't kill anyone, from here at least." She whispers the last part loud enough for him to understand while looking at her nails.
The old Kamaji starts to sweat bullets. "I am glad about that." He turns around and reaches for the door before he feels a pale hand grabbing his shoulder.
He turns around to face the petite girl. "I was messing with you." She says with an almost nonexistent smile on her young face. "Except for the 'I will be beat the crap out of anyone trying anything shady in my back' part." She mutters with her frown coming back.
The old man passes his hand in his hair before sighing yet again. "I will see you tomorrow. Goodnight"
"Yeah bye." She says closing the door behind him. "Now let's eat." She looks at Kotai who has already set the table. He is looking at the food with drool in the corner of his mouth as the knight rolls her eyes. "You can eat you know?" She raises her eyebrow in a questioning manner.
"Ok!" He digs into his plate, the knight silently watching him eating before searching where she left the futon she found in the side room.
She founds it between the dresser and the small couch. She unrolls it and prepares the bed next.
"You don't eat?" The albino asks from the table.
She tidies the bed sheets. "No, don't worry about it." He then reaches for her bag and takes out the egg. "Oh don't worry either, I have not forgotten you. You'll sleep with me tonight." She whispers to the egg as it gently purrs.
This is her routine every night, take the egg, tell him some nice words and keep it warm for the cold night.
After some time, Kotai finishes his plate and yawns softly. "Are we going to bed now?" He asks.
"Yeah, you can take the bed, I call dibs on the futon." She tells him while hugging the big egg.
They then prepare themselves before Kamui puts out the candles.
"Goodnight Miss Emiya." He says from his bed.
"Goodnight." Kamui grumbles back.
