Hey guys, it's been a little while hasn't it?

I wanted to come back and update this story with a new chapter.

I want to fill in the gap between Satoru's crash and him waking up, I never really thought of this until a week ago, and now I'm finally writing it.

(Also I almost called Hiromi a girl I'm really sorry)

Sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Bonus Chapter 1: Grievance

Kayo sat on the bus with her head against the window. She was headed to school, waiting to see Satoru's smiling face when she arrived; however, Satoru wasn't there.

'Satoru, where are you?', Kayo thought. Kayo walked into school alone, without Satoru right next to her. She didn't feel her hand gently grasping his, something she had gotten very used to. When she got to class, he still was nowhere to be seen. She approached Kenya and Hiromi, who were having a conversation.

"Good morning guys.", Kayo quietly said. She paused for a brief moment and followed up with, "Have you two seen Satoru?". Kenya and Hiromi looked over at Kayo, surprised with her question. "Oh, good morning Kayo. Sorry, we haven't seen him too. I wonder what he's doing?", Kenya replied with a concerned look. He paused for a brief moment, "Maybe he overslept?". "But Satoru never oversleeps, if anything he tries to be early.", Hiromi suggested. "Also, his mother would've waken him up, she would never let Satoru oversleep. I know that.", Kayo objected.

"Then I don't know what it could be.", Kenya concluded. Kenya very well knew what might have happened, and probably Hiromi too. They didn't want to make Kayo nervous, she had already been through enough.

Shortly after, a man walked into the classroom, but it wasn't Mr. Yashiro. It was instead a man in his fifties with the top of his head balded. He wore a black suit and white tie and was pretty short and slim. He pulled up his thick black glasses and began to speak, "Hello class 5-4, I am Mr. Hamada. Unfortunately, Mr. Yashiro couldn't be here, so I will be your substitute teacher today.". He looked down with a nervous face paused for a brief moment. He looked back up before speaking, "Before we begin class, I have some bad news.".

"Bad news?", Kenya quietly told himself. Kenya knew what might have been coming. It was all too coincidental. "Your teacher, Mr. Yashiro, and your classmate, Satoru Fujinuma were both in a car crash last night. They are both in comas and being hospitalized. I am sorry everybody, I didn't want to break your hearts, but it's for the better.".

The entire class was shocked. Many started to cry, and many were too surprised to even react. Mr. Hamada looked down in shame, having to make a bunch of fifth-graders sad like this. He felt really bad. Mr. Hamada wasn't the only person who felt bad, Kenya knew he had messed up. He was regretting not going with Satoru and letting him get hurt. Hiromi, Kazu, and Osamu all felt the same way. As Kenya and the others were regretting their actions, Kayo was on the verge of a mental breakdown. The boy who helped her so much and turned her life around was now in a coma and she may just never see him awake again. "Excuse me...Mr. Hamada...can I...please...step..outside.", Kayo asked while her voice started to break. "Of course…", Mr. Hamada stopped talking when he saw Kayo run out of the classroom into the hallway.

Kayo was destroyed, she curled up and loudly sobbed in the hallway against the wall. Everyone felt bad, especially Satoru's good friends. Suddenly, Kenya asked Mr. Hamada, "Mr. Hamada, can I go outside as well?". "Of course.", he replied. Kenya thanked him and went outside. He saw Kayo ten feet to the right of him, sad as could be. He wanted to comfort her but didn't know-how. Even so, he decided to try his best.

Kenya sat against the wall, about three feet away from Kayo. "What do you want?", Kayo sadly asked Kenya. "Kayo, I'm sorry...I could've stopped him.". Kenya put his knees up and put his arms around them before he continued. "He insisted to go alone, even though we asked him. Satoru, what did you do?". Kenya put his head into his lap and started tearing up. Kayo looked over and responded, "Kenya, don't be sorry. You couldn't have stopped him. He would've gone anyway.". Kenya looked back up at Kayo surprised, no longer crying. She continued to speak, "Satoru is that kind of person, he goes headfirst into danger.". She paused for a brief moment. "But how could it have happened? Do you know Kenya?". Kenya very well knew what could've happened, but he was too scared to say it. "I don't know for certain, I'll look into it.". Kenya paused for a second, "Kayo, we've got to stay strong, that's what Satoru would want. Maybe he does need some rest anyway, he's done a lot hasn't he?". "But what if he…". Kayo's voice began to break. Kenya interrupted her, "Don't worry, he'll wake up soon. Satoru's strong like that, he's a fighter. Kayo, we'll always be here for you, don't worry.". "Thank you Kenya, I think I'm ready to go back in.". Kayo smiled at Kenya, with her eyes still watery. Kenya didn't say a word, he just smiled back.

School was relatively normal, despite Satoru's absence. After school, the group decided to visit Satoru and Yashiro in the hospital. Sachiko was also there with them. When they got to Satoru's room, they were heartbroken. He laid in the bed lifelessly, with an IV attached to him. Kayo walked over to the bed, with her eyes watering. "Satoru…". She held his cold hand tight and went to her knees. Kayo continued, " How did it come to this?". Sachiko came over and comforted the heartbroken Kayo. The two kneeled next to the bed for what felt like an eternity.

Kenya went home not long after, he didn't feel like hanging out that day. In fact, no one did. Kenya walked into the house, not showing the usual enthusiasm he had. "Welcome home Kenya, how was school?", his mother asked. "It was fine.", Kenya replied in a monotone. "Kenya, I know it's hard.". Kenya interrupted his mom, "It is hard.". He paused for a brief moment before continuing. "Mom, have you seen anything on the news about the crash?". His mom began to answer, "Well yes actually, they showed it about three times today on the news.". Kenya was startled, with some more information he could come up with a plausible reason for why the crash even happened. "They believed that Satoru attacked your teacher while in the car, he had several bruises on his face. Also, Satoru was leaned over towards him when the crash was reported. That's all I know.".

Kenya knew right away. He realized why the crash happened. Satoru knew who the murderer was, and he was right with him. 1% of him believed Satoru, and alas, Satoru was right. Kenya was frozen for a moment, he didn't move an inch until his mom questioned him. "Kenya, are you ok?". She put her hand on his shoulder and looked down at him. "I'm fine, thanks mom.", he responded.

The rest of the afternoon went slowly for Kenya. He knew what he had to do, his goal was clear. He would avenge Satoru and his wishes, no matter what.

The next day started like any other, without Satoru obviously. That day, Kenya wanted to tell his plan to the one person he trusted other than Satoru, Hiromi. The two were walking to class that morning when Kenya pitched his idea, "Hiromi, I need to tell you something.". "What is it?", Hiromi questioned. "Remember when Satoru talked about a murderer?". Hiromi shook his head yes. "Well, he was right.". "What do you mean?", he shockingly asked. "This may sound sudden, but I believe that the murderer, is Gaku Yashiro.". "You can't be serious, he would never murder Satoru!", Hiromi objected. "I thought the same thing until I saw the news. Apparently, he tried to hit Mr. Yashiro in the car as a means of self-defense. He crashed the car intentionally. All the pieces line up.". Hiromi couldn't believe it, but he still trusted Kenya. "I trust you Kenya, what should we do to help?". "There's only one thing we can do." Kenya dramatically paused before suggesting, "Kill Gaku Yashiro.".

There will be another chapter after this one, it's coming soon! (Or maybe it's already done idk when you're reading this)
