Chapter 10: Revelations.
Sans took a deep breath as he thought of his escape from this scenario. He could tell lies but Ruby is here and she could tell them the truth if she wanted to. He could run but that would only worry them more. The blue jacket boy then sat there and stared into the void and thought about ways of getting out of there.
"Sans,... Please. Just tell them the truth. Start at the part that you are most uncomfortable with. It will help you get through this much more comfortably." Ruby advised.
"Ughhh, you absolute dolt! How can he start with the most uncomfortable part!? That should be left for the last part." Weiss said.
"Actually, I think Ruby may have a point. Going through the worst will make you cherish your life after all." Ink told her.
"Well, that's one way to put it." Yang chimed in.
"hey, i think i have an idea on how to tell my story." Sans eyes darkened.
Everyone then looked at him attentively.
"15 years ago, a kid fell to the underground. her name was Chara, no last name. the moment a monster - prince Asriel Dreemur saw her, he helped her up and brought her to the castle."
"And they ate her?" Yang asked.
"no." The summoner deadpanned.
"Wha-"
"Shhh!" Weiss was cut off by Ruby.
"the king and queen took her in and took care of her as if she was their own. the monsters saw this seven-year-old kid as their hope for a bright future. a glimmer of hope that soon faded two years later." Sans told them with a sad expression.
"Monsters that loved a human? Sounds a bit far fetched if you ask me. How did they lose hope in her?" Blake asked.
"the kid ate buttercups to poison herself so prince Asriel could take her soul. Chara thought of this plan as she knew that a monster with a human soul could cross the barrier. she only had one wish before she died, that is to be home. once she died, Asriel took her soul to get to Patch and placed her body on a flower bed." Sans continued
"I do remember that. When I was young, dad said that he and his team fought a goat-like monster that killed a little girl. The weird thing is that the monster did not fight back, despite being very powerful." Yang added.
"yeah, Asriel then returned to the underground, badly wounded. the young prince then collapsed on a flower bed and dissolved into dust. filled with pain and agony, the king declared war on mankind and the queen left, never to be seen again." Sans continued with Yang's story.
"I'm sorry, but how does a folktale involve your story? I haven't seen a single connection between the two stories." Weiss asked.
"i'm getting there, Ice Queen. a judge, who is a skeleton, took the job of taking people's souls as they fell to the underground. he fought and killed six children. before he met the seventh, an old friend asked him to look after the kid, so he promised her that he would. that kid ended up killing the entire underground and ironically, the judge was the last survivor. he ended up fighting the kid and finally managed to kill her. he then took her soul and the other six to destroy the barrier. that judge is me and the seventh kid was Frisk." Sans ended his story.
Everyone's eyes (except for Ruby's, Ink and Error's eyes) widened. Blake then looked at the boy and stuttered.
"T-That can't be true, right?"
"Okay, t-that was a g-good joke Sans." Yang stuttered.
"He's not lying." Ruby said in a saddened tone.
"This is simply absurd! He looks completely human! Well, minus the… Eyes…" Reality then sunk into Weiss.
Sans's eyes looked that way because he had no eyes at all. Those are actually empty eye sockets with imaginary pupils.
'Were those pupils made of magic like the ones in the books?' Weiss thought to herself.
"When a person's soul trait interacts with magic, the trait will become active with the user. For example, mine is Determination and my soul has this trait that can get another person's Determination soul fragments to see their past. It also allows me to go back in time to my last SAVE point if I ever get killed. Only way to kill me is by absorbing my soul after killing me like he did with Frisk." Ruby explained.
"This can't be true. If so, why has no one here got their powers?" Weiss asked.
"simple, i haven't given you any of my magic to make your soul work yet. i only accidentally gave Ruby magic by giving her blasters." Sans stated in a matter of fact tone.
"So Ruby has been suffering for the last few days because of this!? YOU WERE BLACKMAILING HER!?" Yang screamed as her pupils turned red and fire came out of her hair.
"What!? No! Yang, I was sad because I learned the truth!" Ruby explained, trying to calm the brawler down.
"Do you have any further proof than this?" Blake asked.
"yes." Sans answered.
The blue jacket boy then pulled his skull mask off his face and blue flame bursted out of his skin, transforming him back into a skeleton. Weiss was completely shocked by this and took a few steps back, Blake covered her mouth with her hands and Yang jumped from her spot.
"WHAT THE FUCK!?" Yang swore.
"guess i'm in a skele-ton of trouble now, aren't i?" Sans punned.
"Y-You killed a kid?" Blake shrunk.
"Well, seven kids actually." Ink fixed.
"Yeah, so?" Error asked, causing Blake's ears to shoot up.
"So!? SO!? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? DO YOU THINK PEOPLE'S LIVES ARE THAT CHEAP!?" Blake, to everyone's surprise, screamed on top of her lungs.
"Did you even care when thousands of monsters were slaughtered? Or when they pushed monsters to the edge of extinction over some bullshit reasons? Or maybe when they killed the prince?" Error asked Blake.
"Stop…" The cat faunus muttered
"If you think lives are so valuable, then maybe sacrificing seven kids for hundreds maybe worth it." Error added.
"Stop it!" She demanded this time.
"Did you give a hell when he told you about the part where his kind was killed or were you busy with your hypocritical self?" Error pushed harder.
"ENOUGH!" Sans yelled, causing the whole room to shake.
The skeleton turned back to his human form and then rubbed his temple before looking up at the door. He squinted his eyes before calling to someone outside the door.
"you can come in if you want, the door isn't locked. it's very rude to eavesdrop on people's conversations." Sans said.
The door then clicked and opened to reveal team JNPR standing outside the room. They put on a sheepish grin before entering the room.
"anything you'd like to say to yourself?" Sans deadpanned.
"Well,... We were worried about you guys and we heard some shouting so we came to check. And we happened to overhear a few,... All of it." Nora stated.
"Bruh,..." Ink blurted.
"heh, i was caught off guard. that was my mistake. can i ask you guys to keep these secrets for me?" Sans asked.
"Yup." Nora answered.
"Yes, I can." Ren said.
"Of course." Pyrrha told him.
"You can count on us!" Jaune said pridefully.
"so you guys are alright with me being, ya know,... a monster?" Sans asked.
"Actually, we are more worried about what you have done in the past than this." Blake stated.
"Can't agree more." Yang added.
"So, we are finally acknowledging the fact that we are standing in a room with a monster who killed seven people?" Weiss asked.
"Well, we all have regrets. The important thing is to learn from them. I too have some regrets but that's a story for another day." Ink said.
"i,... need to ask you guys a question. and i need you all to answer me truthfully. can you do that?" Sans asked as he put on a serious tone.
The two teams stiffened their body. They all looked at each other hesitantly before Ruby spoke up.
"Sure."
"do you think that even the worst person can change? that anyone can be a good person if they just,... try?" Sans asked the question.
The room then fell into silence again as the group looked at each other thoughtfully. The silence was deafening. After a few minutes, Ren was the one who spoke up.
"Yes. We are who we choose to be right? So, if someone chooses to do good and overcome their evil nature, then they too can become a good person."
"I believe in that too. A wise person once said 'A butcher who can put down their knife will never hurt another being'." Ruby quoted.
"That sounds philosophical. I knew it! My sister is all grown up!" Yang chimed in as she hugged Ruby tightly.
"Pweash shtop…" Ruby said as she was being crushed by her sister.
"Well, I'll be the judge of that." Weiss said, looking at Blake and Sans.
"awwwww, did i just hear forgiveness from you, Ice Queen?" Sans teased.
"I guess you did." Blake smirked.
"You too are insufferable!" Weiss huffed.
"heh, yet, you guys are still trying. thank you for that." Sans thanked as he pulled his skull mask back on.
"Guys, it's been fun and all, but I think it's getting late. We all should head to bed." Ink suggested.
"Yeah, I think my back is getting hurt after this long talk." Error added.
"waaay ahead of you. it's good to finally get the skeleton out of the closet." Sans said from his room.
"I agree *yawn* We all should head to bed." Nora stated.
"Welp, see you guys tomorrow." Jaune said as team JNPR walked out of the room.
"Cya." Ink and Error then followed them.
"I think we can all agree that this has been a long day." Weiss spoke up.
"Yup!" Ruby chimed in.
The girls then got themselves to their own bunk beds and laid themselves down. The room was quiet for a while before Weiss called.
"Hey Blake."
"Yes?" Blake responded.
"Do you think it's the White Fang?" She asked.
"Yeah. I think deep down, I knew it was them." The cat faunus spoke.
"What do you think we should do?" Yang asked.
"What any huntress would do. We put a stop to this. I am determined to help you face your past, Blake." Ruby said.
"Thanks guys." Said Blake.
"You are filled with Determination." Chara told Ruby.
'You've been awfully quiet.' Ruby thought.
"You want to hear me out? I'm flattered." The striped shirt girl joked.
'Very funny,... Why didn't you say a thing.' The little Rose asked in her thoughts.
"I guess it's not my story to tell. Besides, you already knew my side of the story." Chara answered.
'I guess.' Ruby thought.
"Rest, we have a big day tomorrow." Chara said.
Ruby then summoned a small sized Gaster Blaster on her bed and hugged it like a teddy bear before falling asleep.
Headmaster Ozpin's Office
The headmaster was rubbing his temples. The fact that there's a monster with 7 human souls had already given him enough of a headache, let alone a Universe's protector and a destroyer.
'Why Ink and Error has not fought a single time is beyond me, but Sans knows the two of them as well? Who is that boy I wonder?' Ozpin then looked at his cane and then at the glass window.
He knew that Ink can help the two brothers create this world but if they decided not to. The judgement is on their hands but the choices were made by the people of this world. If they ever come back to this world, they will decide if humanity may live on or be destroyed. Things seem to be even more complicated for the destroyer of worlds' intentions is unknown.
The headmaster then laid back against his chair and thought of ways to prevent any and all of them if things were to go bad.
