"I don't want to hear it Hylla!" I growled as we entered Camp Half-blood, we had been silent the entire trip up here. Luckily no monsters attacked us, though I'm not sure if it was luck or something else wanting us to make it there.
"You promised, you promised you wouldn't do this!" Hylla shouted at me causing me to wince from the volume.
"Yeah I did Hylla, I lied." I said which caused her to punch me in between the shoulder blades. I dropped to my knees and hissed in pain, I got to my feet and glared at my wife who looked on the verge of tears. I wanted to comfort her, to make her feel better but I couldn't I was the reason she felt this way.
"Hylla, he destroyed my families legacy, he took everything my family built and brought it to ruin! I'm the only member of my family left so I'm the one that has to deal with it before the Gargareans are beyond help! You have to understand this Hylla, it isn't your problem it's my families!" I shouted and she looked more hurt than I have ever seen her.
She lowered her head and said nothing before walking to the Big House, I saw Chiron greet her and escort her in to rest. Why didn't she fight back? What did I say that made her stop fighting? What just happened?
"Sam!" I voice behind me said, I turned to see Percy and Amos walking up to me both looking grim.
"Guys? What do you want? I'm kind of dealing with my own shit right now!" I asked rather harshly but the two guys just rolled their eyes at my anger.
"We have a problem, big problem!" Percy said looking to Amos who nodded.
"Kinzie sent me a letter, Hylla sent all the Gargarean information to her so that it wouldn't be traced back to you two. She learned that nearly all funds and additional funds from the Triumvirate were wired to one specific General-" he started.
"Fitzpatrick, the Gargarean general of Washington D.C. I know." I said recalling everything the soldier told me in the forest. Tanks, mercenaries, Germanus, millions in weapons and armor.
"We are pretty sure he's going to try to siege the camp. We have to prepare for it." Percy said with a fierce look in his eyes.
I scoffed "Don't, I'll deal with Fitzpatrick myself. You can prepare a defense if you want but after I'm done with him their won't be anything to defend against." I said my fists shaking in rage over what I've heard about this guy. From what that soldier told me this guy is one of the most influential generals because of fear, a torturer, a sadist, a monster, and that monster now wants to attack my home.
I'll show him who the real monster is!
"I'll talk with Sherman, he's already gathering the Hephaestus cabin to start building some stronger armor." Percy said before walking away leaving me and Amos.
"What was going on with you and Hylla?" Amos asked curiously.
I scowled "I told her I wouldn't go on a vendetta, which is what I immediately started doing. She's upset that I lied." I explained.
Amos didn't seem convinced "Are you sure? Cause that seemed way more heated than you just having lied to her." he said.
"I..I don't know! I told her why I lied to her? I said that this was my families legacy and that it wasn't her problem it's my families." I said and Amos looked at me like I was the biggest idiot on Earth.
Then he slapped me across the face, let me rephrase, he tried to slap me across the face but I grabbed his wrist and glared at him.
"You are so stupid Sam!" Amos said pulling his arm back.
"What?!" I demanded because what the fuck did I do!?
"Hylla is your family! You basically just said that she wasn't family!" He explained.
I was about to retort when it dawned on me exactly what I said, why she was crying, and why she didn't fight like she normally does.
I said she wasn't family.
I ignored whatever Amos was saying as I ran up to the Big House, did I really just say to my six months pregnant wife that she wasn't family?! And where the fuck were you reader?! Huh?! Could have fucking stopped me!
I opened the door to the Big House where Chiron was muttering to himself before he saw me "Upstairs, first room. Please make this right Samuel." he said softly and I nodded before making my way up the stairs.
Once I saw the door my feet felt like lead and my heart was feeling like it was being squeezed. I made it to the door but remained motionless, god what the fuck do I even say to her? How do I come back from that?
I raised my hand, it was shaking violently but I steadied it and knocked lightly on the door.
"Hylla?" I asked through the door only to be met with silence, I grabbed the doorknob and slowly opened the door. I stuck my head in and before I could say anything I was hit in the head with a book "Argh! Fuck!" I shouted dropping to my knees and holding my head in pain.
The book assault continued as I was kicked onto my back and Hylla was hitting me with a large hardcover book. On any other circumstance I would have laughed at this and kissed her but at the moment it just hurt.
"Hylla please let me talk!" I said but she had tears in her eyes, I raised my arms and was able to block most of the hits. Finally I saw my opening and grabbed her wrist as she brought it down, she tried to punch me with the other one but I was able to grab that too.
"Hylla please!" I pleaded and she had tears streaming down her cheeks, I couldn't tell if it was pregnancy hormones making her more violent and more upset but honestly I couldn't care less! My wife was crying and I caused it!
"Get out Sam!" she said softly.
"No, because I'm never leaving. I'm never leaving you, I made a vow that I would be with you forever and I'm keeping that vow! Hylla, you are my family the only family I've ever truly felt I didn't deserve. For years I thought that I was cheated for my dad being killed and me being orphaned. I spent most of my life alone regretting and hating everything but...the moment I met you Hylla. In that moment I realized that I never want to be alone again, that the only family I wanted was one where you were with me every step of the way. I should never have said what I said and I'm sorry that I lied but if anything ever happened to you Hylla I would be lost. You are my family and I love you." I said softly to the love of my life.
She dropped her book and leaned in closer and pulled me into a hug "Forever?" she asked.
I smiled as I kissed her forehead.
"Always."
