"So…your full truth?" Silver prompts.
My voice gets caught. Then it hitches for a second.
Flashback
A happy couple. Antonio and Juniper. The perfect couple. When they announced they had a child, the whole village cheered. Their first child was named Yellow, due to her long, golden locks of hair and her constant cheerfulness. Two years later, they had a second child called Willow, for her thoughtfulness and flexibility.
But, when Juniper bore Willow, she became ill. After five years of fighting the illness, she finally gave in. Antonio raged, blamed poor Willow for Juniper's death. Yellow defended Willow, took his hits, never gave in and constantly hugged Willow. Soon, Antonio blamed both of them, Willow for killing Juniper, and Yellow for defending Willow. He raged and raged. The village trusted Antonio, knew Antonio, and followed Antonio's lead.
Wilton, Juniper's brother, saw what Antonio was doing, took the poor girls in. Eventually, Antonio saw what he had done, and was devastated. The villagers, not noticing Antonio's mood change, continued blaming the two girls for Juniper's death. Antonio killed himself, absolutely horrified at what he had done.
I, Mew, saw the two crying, saw great potential in them, and enhanced their powers. Their village had been built to protect the forest against evil, but over the centuries, all but Juniper's family had forgotten.
One day, when Yellow was defending Willow, they had frustrated and maddened Yellow, and out of the blue, a hedge appeared around them. Yellow, exhausted and unused to her powers/talents, fell over. Willow bounded away with Yellow, each step filled with magic.
This made the villagers even more motivated to kill the two, calling them witches. They grew up in the forest, running away from villagers whilst protecting the forest from poacher and tree-cutters and learning to control their powers.
However, one day, Willow's magic took her too far. She disappeared, out of their lives. Yellow cried and cried, for Willow had been her only human friend, her most trusted soul.
I felt that it was my fault, for I had been the one who enhanced their powers, so I took Yellow in as my apprentice and child. However, I could not grow too close to this young child, however much I wanted to, so I had to stay far, but close.
From then on, Yellow trained and practiced and learned every day, always eager to do more and forget the woes that had happened to her. Her memories became buried, deep down.
End~
My breath hitches again. "What happened?" I ask, confused as to why Blue and Silver are staring at me. Silver's metal shards have slipped out of his hands.
There's a long silence.
"I'll assume that by Yellow you're talking about Ama," Blue finally says, face unreadable.
"What? What's going on?" I ask, slightly concerned now.
A voice speaks in my head. Yes. Yellow, or Amarillo, as you know her, is my apprentice and ward.
Three different music pieces are ringing in my head, courtesy of Blue. I'm feeling a little dizzy, too, and it's not just because of the clashy music.
"Hello, O powerful Mew. Here to kill us?" Silver mutters under his breath. Even I have to admit, the guy's kind of paranoid.
"Uh, Ama—I mean, Yellow—any idea why your mentor came back?" Blue quietly asks me.
"I have no idea why Mew is here," I tell her, surprised myself.
The three different music pieces in my head get louder, then multiply to five, then ten, then twenty. Uh-oh, that's a bad sign, right? Blue is starting to look a little…stressed…
All of a sudden the music disappears entirely.
Huh? That can't be good, can it? Confused, I look over at Blue.
Blue actually looks fairly calm.
The music comes jangling back, ever so faintly. Threaded in are notes that sound weirdly like, Since *angelic singing* Yellow *angelic singing* cannot *angelic singing* tell *more angelic singing, you get the idea* her past, I told it for her. Huh? What? What's going on?
It is nothing you need to worry about, Mew speaks.
I shrug. Okay. Well whatever Mew told them, it wasn't what I was going to tell them, but whatever. I'll tell the story another time.
"AMARILLO! CRYSTAL! WHERE ARE YOU?" Chuck roars. "YOU STILL NEED TO BATTLE!"
Oh nooooo…
