Chapter 13
Location: The Reef
The Crystal Gems had the head of the Vex GateLord and were arriving in the hangar of the base in the Reef.
"Think you guys can carry it?" Pearl asked.
"No problem" Amethyst and Steven said as they lifted the head.
Petra Venj was already waiting for the Gems when they arrived. "So, how'd it go?" she asked.
"There were a few close calls but it all worked out." Steven said as Petra guided them to the queen's throne.
"My queen, your friends have returned" Petra said.
Uldren walked towards them and said "ahh, I see. There is no shame in retreat, Guardians."
Pearl and Connie moved out of the way for Steven and Amethyst, who were carrying the GateLord's head. They dropped it in front of Uldren. Uldren looked surprised. He got close to the GateLord's head and saw that the eye of the GateLord was still glowing dimly. Uldren used his knife and pulled it out. The eye stopped glowing, as he brought it to Mara. "So it is dead"
"Good, good. I believe the Guardians can be trusted." Mara said.
"So does this mean Guardians can safely come to the Reef?" Steven asked
"Yes. On one condition. When the Reef is threatened, you come to our support. To help defend us." Uldren explained. "So, do we have a deal?" He asked.
Steven answered in a serious tone "Deal".
"Well, I'm glad this has been resolved. We'll be on our way" The Ghost said to Mara and Uldren.
"Here," Uldren handed the Vex eye to Steven, "You can keep this as a reminder"
Steven looked at the GateLord's eye for a second. Amethyst and Ruby picked up the head of the GateLord and the Gems walked back to their ship and boarded it.
"Well that went better than I expected" the Ghost said.
"The Vanguard will be very glad to hear about this." Sapphire said
"They'll never doubt us now" Steven said gladly
The Gems ship took off, and headed back to the Last City.
*They fly through space to the Last City*
"Here we are" the Ghost said. "Let's get to the command room." The Gems got off the ship after it landed and headed down the hallways to the Vanguard.
"Cayde's gonna love to see this" Steven said, referring to the GateLord's head and eye. They entered the room.
"Hey, you're back!" Cayde said.
"And we brought a trophy" Steven said and tossed him the GateLord's eye.
"Is this they eye of some Vex?" Cayde asked.
"Not just any Vex" Ruby said as she and Amethyst brought in the GateLord's head.
"Daanngg!" Cayde said
"Is that a GateLord head?" Ikora asked.
"Yep. We made a deal with Mara and Uldren Sov, and now Guardians can freely pass through the Reef." The Ghost said.
"Yeah, and we all used our light abilities as a team!" Connie said.
"Good work Guardians" Zavalah said. "I think now you should get some rest. You've fought harder than you ever have before."
"And you got an awesome trophy. This GateLord!" Cayde said as he tossed the eye back to Steven. Amethyst and Ruby carried the head and the Crystal Gems went to their room.
"That was better than any gem we've ever fought before." Connie said.
That reminded them of home. Although they'd had alot of fun and amazing experiences, they still missed their home in Beach City.
"I wonder if there is a way back home, to our time" Steven said
"I'm sure we can find a way" the Ghost replied. "The only place I know of is The Vault of Glass on Venus. Gaurdians have been known to have unintentionally time traveled while there. If a Gaurdian is in their too long, a week, a month, or even a year could have passed by. Basically, when the Guardian leaves the Vault, they may have been sent to the future."
"Maybe there's a way we can reverse that." Connie said.
Meanwhile, in the command room, three Guardians have something to tell the Vanguard. It was Ratchet, Caleb, and Vera
"Zavalah we have some news for you" Ratchet said
"What is it?" Zavalah replied
"We received a distress signal from Mercury" Ratchet said
"Is one of our Guardians in trouble?" Zavalah asked.
"No, it's from some followers of... Osiris" Ratchet answered
The three Vanguard looked surprised.
"I know you normally would ignore there cries, but this one is different" Caleb said
They played the recording. It mentioned something about the followers of Osiris finding Osiris's Ghost, and seeing alot more Vex than normal.
"Hmmm. You can go check it out. See if this is all true" Zavalah said.
"Osiris prophesied of many things involving the Vex." Ikora said "if he's in trouble, and all he said is true, then we may be in serious danger."
"Alright. Let's go save the city" Ratchet said to Caleb and Vera.
"Oh and one more thing" Cayde said. "Maybe could you check up on the small Cabal base near where the followers of Osiris are?"
"Sure thing" Caleb said before they left the room.
Caleb, Ratchet, and Vera went down to the hangar and boarded their ship.
"Alright Guardians, let's figure this all out." The Ghost said when they took off.
As they flew through hyperspace to Mercury, Ratchet showed off one of his new weapons.
"Fighting the Vex won't be hard now that I got this new gun, the Vex Mythoclass." Ratchet said
It was a rifle that looked like it was made by the Vex.
"Well I've got my own rocket launcher, the Emsick's Return" Caleb said.
Eva then showed them her bigger gun, "That's nothing compared to my Telesto fusion rifle".
Eventually the three Guardians arrived on Mercury. They landed near the tower that Osiris's followers have.
"Why don't we go check out the Cabal first, so we don't forget" Vera suggested.
"Good idea" Ratchet said as they summoned their sparrows.
"Let's try to sneak in, and see if we can find anything before we get caught" Vera said as they took off.
"Before we get caught?" Ratchet said. "Are you implying that we will get caught?"
"Yep" Vera and Caleb said at the same time
While dodging any Vex they saw on the way, the Guardians saw the base up ahead.
"Alright, stop over there, where there's no Cabal." The Ghost said. The Guardians stayed low, to avoid the Cabal as they snuck into the base. Suddenly they heard some loud footsteps from the Cabal in the next room. They peered around the corner of door to see what was going on. They could see a table of some kind with a hologram on it.
Caleb whispered "Ghost, can you record all this?"
"Sure thing" the Ghost responded
The hologram looked like there was a star, with a huge, strange ship in front of it. The ship was shooting some kind of beam at the star.
"Is that ship going to destroy the star?" Eva whispered.
Then the hologram changed. It was a hologram of a Cabal. But this one looked different. It was bigger, and had different armor on it.
"That must be one of their leaders" Vera said quietly to Caleb and Ratchet
Suddenly they heard something come up behind them. It was a Cabal!
"Watch out" the Ghost said. The three Guardians dodged the Cabal's fire.
Caleb shotguned it and said "Welp, the Cabal in the room probably heard us. Let's give them a visit" the Ghost said
Vera looked into the room and fired at all the Cabal she could see with her Telesto fusion rifle *vrsiopow!
The hologram of the big Cabal looked at her.
"Shoot it!" The Ghost said.
Caleb's hands glowed purple. He jumped in and threw his Nova bomb. *pe cheow... booomm* the hologram, and most of the room was destroyed.
"Let's get out of here" Caleb said.
As the Guardians were leaving, more Cabal were coming to block their way. Suddenly Ratchet's hands had electricity coming out of them. He was activating his Striker ability
"Take this Cabal" he said. Every time a Cabal got in his way, he would strike the ground and make an electric shockwave, destroying Cabal. Vera activated her Gunslinger ability and summoned a flaming pistol. *bang bang bang* She fired at the Cabal that Ratchet's striking couldn't reach. The three of them made it out and got on their sparrows.
"Well that was fun" the Ghost said as they took off. The Guardians headed to the location of the distress signal that the followers of Osiris sent them.
"We'd better tell the Vanguard about this. If the Cabal are planning an invasion, we need to be ready." Caleb said.
