Dark Kingdom 12

Usagi had to hurry to keep up with Mamoru.

She was also still trying to sort of collect her confused thoughts.

What just happened?

Not only had he rescued her from another predicament, she was slowly getting used to it.

But this boy's reaction. Did he know Mamoru? What did he know about him? She would have loved to go back and shake him until he spoke out.

Who was Mamoru? What was his secret? And why was he here? Why was he always where she was? And whenever she needed help.

She lost her balance, quickly hopped a few steps forward and was more than likely able to save herself from falling.

She looked in surprise at what she had stumbled upon.

"Oh man." She sighed in frustration and picked up her broken heel from the floor.

Everything ok?

No.

Mamoru came up to her.

The thing about the guys had just slipped out of her mind. He didn't take that to heart now, did he?

Usagi tried to back away, but was stapled in place.

She had only just seen how he could be when someone made him angry. She certainly didn't want to experience it firsthand.

Mamoru held out his hand to her.

And just picked her up.

But that really surprised her now. The last man who had carried her on his hands was her father and then she had been a child.

Usagi involuntarily had to suppress the impulse not to shout "YAY" for joy.

It was nice in his arm, she felt secure, protected.

And she had a first-class look at his tattoo, she was surprised to find out.

For the first time she could take a closer look.

The deep black of the ornate lines that began very thinly just behind his ear, ran down his neck and disappeared under the fabric of his half-opened shirt.

How big was it? Did it hurt?

She would love to touch his skin. Just to know if the ornament stood out from the rest, if you could feel a difference.

Usagi startled when Mamoru sat her on the cold sheet metal of a bonnet.

After a quick look around, she realized it was the hood of his black sports car. She couldn't even tell exactly what kind of vehicle it was. There was neither a name nor a clear symbol to be recognized. Not that Usagi knew anything about cars. But she was familiar with the most common models.

The shoe is probably gone.

Great. They were really expensive.

She watched as Mamoru put the shoe aside and reached into his back pocket. Surely he wouldn't get the idea again ...

Stop giving me money all the time, she complained. Do you have too much of it that you can distribute it to others?

The answer was only a shrug.

Usagi raised her arms theatrically: Give me my bag. There are spare shoes in there.

For an eternity she rummaged around in the pink handbag, the only accessory she had insisted on when choosing Naru's clothes. It was her favorite handbag and she would never want to exchange it for another one. Dress code or not.

She finally found the shoes in question. Pretty black ballerinas.

She let herself slide off the hood, straightened her dress for what felt like the hundredth time and slipped into the comfortable flat shoes.

"Shall I drive you home?" Mamoru asked softly.

Why did he ask that so carefully?

She shook her head: There's a subway station around the corner.

At this time? Do you think that's a good idea all by yourself?

Usagi shrugged his shoulders: Actually I wanted to go back with Naru ...

A flash of inspiration ran through her.

Where does this Sapphire live? she asked Mamoru.

I don't know. he replied coolly. What? Did he think she was going to pay the guys a midnight visit?

I thought you are all friends with each other.

He shook his head: "Sapphire is Diamond's brother."

But you know him. You were sipping coffee.

I only work for him now and then.

But he must know where his brother lives. Now came the moment when she slowly sounded a little more weepy.

The two have many residences.

Usagi sighed loudly.

Don't you understand that I just want to help Naru? It's all my fault that she went with this guy. She buried her fingers in his shirt. That felt quite expensive, so she loosened her grip a bit. If something happens to her now ...

"I think she's old enough to take care of herself," he interrupted.

Actually she had expected him to push her hands away, but he didn't move at all. Just stood there and looked at her. From these incredibly great eyes. Damn it, Usagi. Get back to the real topic.

But .. Didn't you say yourself that these guys were dangerous?

She could see it working inside him.

He looked at her again and again, then looked past her, he probably really thought about what to say.

"Get in." He finally sighed.

Oh thank you.

She stared awkwardly at the floor, not knowing what to do with her arms, so she crossed them across her chest.

Which only raised her bosom more than this miserable push-up from Naru and thus Mamoru's interested look explained.

Usagi wanted to sink into the floor in shame, but then left it at blushing and an embarrassing clearing of her throat, before she let her arms hang down limply again.

"Didn't you just say yourself, you don't know where he lives?" She asked into the uncomfortable silence.

Sapphire doesn't take his female acquaintances home with him. Mamoru explained as he got into the car.

But? To a secluded house in the woods where nobody will disturb him while he can graze them?

Mamoru frowned in her direction: Your fantasies are really strange.

I'm just scared for Naru.

That is not unjustified.

Well, yes! What kind of guys are you hanging out with?

I don't hang out with them. I already said that I work for Diamond occasionally.

As what?

Mamoru didn't answer. She didn't know whether it was because he had to concentrate on driving or if he didn't want to answer the question at all.

So she chose a different tactic.

"Who is this Diamond?" , she asked urgently.

Mamoru drove onto the hard shoulder. Usagi looked around in amazement. Were they there? But they could have walked the few meters.

She looked again at Mamoru, who ran a hand through his hair. What an incredibly exciting gesture.

I already said that it is dangerous to be near me.

"And Diamond is the reason for that?" Usagi asked in a whisper.

Also.

She became impatient: Now talk.

Diamond belongs to the Yakuza.

The mafia. He owns half of Tokyo. But mainly the red light milleu.

And you?

I'm not an integral part. But I also move in these circles, yes.

That's why she shouldn't see him again. Hence his aversion to public places where he could be seen.

Are you scared?

Did she have it? Usagi looked at him long and hard. He had saved her. Multiple. Why would he do this if he was one of the bad guys?

"I don't know." Instead, she answered truthfully. But I know that Naru is in danger.

Mamoru didn't answer.

What did he know

What will happen to her? she asked carefully.

Mamoru shook his head: I don't know what Sapphire is going to do with her. He probably just wants to have some fun.

Fun? Oh.

She didn't know which was worse.
