Walking along the docks Mike smiled when Kate jumped on his back
"What are you five?" he grinned holding her in place
"After all that food, I need carrying" she wrapped her arms around his neck
"Well by all means where to milady" he turned his head slightly
"Home" she whispered in his ear
"Home?" he questioned with a grin
"Home" she repeated with a soft kiss on his cheek
"Home it is then" he began walking towards the carpark
"Wait.. can you give me a minute?" she spotted Swain on the deck of Hammersley
"Ah.. sure" he replied confused when she slipped from his back to stand
"Is everything alright?" he turned to face her
"Yeah I just need to ask Swain something"
"Do you want me to wait?"
"You go to the car I'll be five minutes tops" she brushed her hand across his chest
"Sure" he nodded watching her walk off.
"Things between you two seem to be better" Swain smiled when Kate walked across the gangway
"Yeah.. look can I ask a favour?" she stopped next to him
"A favour you don't want the Boss knowing about I presume" he closed his clip board
"Preferably not"
"It's not something dodgy is it?"
"Do you still have contact with your Police mate?" she leant against the railing
"Sometimes" he shifted to stand next to her
"I need you to do a check for me…"
"On Aden?"
"I overheard him when some guy showed up.. I just, I'm beginning to wonder if maybe Mike's right"
"Well what did they say?" Swain sensed her hesitation
"It's not important…" she shook her head the words 'The Boss wants proof within twenty-four hours that Kate McGregor is dead' circling around in her head
"Kate…"
"Please can you just do it?" she cleared her throat
"Of course but.."
"And there's another thing" she moved off the railing
"Is everything okay with the baby?" he asked instantly
"Jellybean's fine, it's Mike…"
"Mike?"
"If something… if something happens to me and he blames himself tell him it's okay"
"Okay?" Swain placed a hand on her arm
"Tell him, I never regretted any of it"
"Kate I don't understand"
"That I love him, I love the life he gave me no matter how short" she placed her hand over his
"Are you in some sort of trouble?"
"No… just promise me you won't let Mike blame himself, don't let him go in a downward spiral"
"Sure I promise, but do you want to tell me what's going on?" he asked confused when she moved his hand off her arm
"Mike is an amazing man, and I love him with everything I am but he will not be dragged into my problems"
"Problems? What problems?"
"Do your search, give the information you find to Mike please" she squeezed his hand
"Kate I…" he paused when she pulled him into a hug
"I love you like a brother Swain, just promise me you'll look after him" she kissed his cheek before pulling back and exiting off the ship
"Kate!" he called after her
"Please Swain just… just do as I ask" she replied back
"Okay" he nodded confused
"You're a good friend Swain, Mike… he's going to need that" she smiled before making her way towards the carpark.
...
"Now before this goes any further I have a little something for you" Mike entered the bedroom
"When did you have time to even buy a present?" she grinned following behind him
"Sit on the bed" he motioned moving into the walk-in robe
"I thought we agreed to not do presents this year" she sat down
"Well technically it was your birthday present but it might not fit by then" he laughed exiting the walk-in robe with a box
"What's this?" she moved over when he placed it next to her
"Open it" he knelt next to her,
taking the lid off the box Kate smiled at seeing a 'Winsome Lace Chiffon Jewel Neckline Half Sleeves A-line Evening Dress With Beadings Hot-fix Rhinestones'
"Mike it's beautiful" she ran her hand across the rhinestones
"If you don't like the design or colour I can swap it out for something else or…"
"It's perfect I love it" she placed a hand on his cheek
"Bomber actually helped pick it out, as for the colour well, Blue brings out the sparkle in your eyes" he smiled reaching across and pulling a small box out from under the dress
"Another one?" she said surprised when he placed it in her hand
"Technically this one is your Anniversary present"
"Mike…"
"Open it" he repeated the same words as earlier,
opening the small box Kate pulled out the chain that was inside putting the box aside she looked at the gold bar that was hanging off it that had numbers engraved on it
"33.510 S 151.170 E" Kate read aloud
"It's the coordinates of…"
"Watson's Bay" she interrupted
"Where we first met" he carefully grabbed the necklace from the hands and put it around the neck
"It's perfect" she ran her fingers across it when Mike moved back
"I know it was seven years ago but, it's gotten us to where we are and I'll forever be…" Kate leaned down kissing him softly "grateful" he finished when she pulled back
"I love it, and the dress it's.. breathtaking thank you" she ran her thumb across his bottom lip
"You deserve nothing but the world Kate" he grabbed her hand and kissed the back of it
"Check your bedside draw" she smiled
"What?"
"Do you have to question everything, just check it" she replied moving off the bed when he shifted to stand
"And who was it that said no presents" he grinned pulling out the box from his draw
"I think this is a present worth accepting given what your old one was like" she picked up her present and set it on the small table
"Kate…" Mike pulled out the watch from it's box
"I figured it was time for an upgrade and this one well it's special" she took it from him turning it over to reveal the same coordinates that were on her necklace
"Great minds think alike" he grinned when she took his old one off and put the new one on
"See this is why we get along so well"
"Really I thought it was because of the steamy sex life"
"And here I was thinking you loved me for more than just my body" she laughed when he began pushing her back onto the bed
"I love everything about you, but your body.. definitely a big advantage" he teased her into a kiss,
running his hand through her hair he slowly lowered her onto the bed and shifted to hover above her pulling back from the kiss he looked down at her
"I love you, I love you so much" she caressed his cheek
"It's always going to be you Kate" he leaned down again kissing her passionately he let out a grown when Kate ran her hand under his shirt.
Making her way through the carpark of the hotel hours later Kate looked down at her necklace with a sad look,
remembering back to hours earlier after Mike had fallen asleep from their extensive afternoon she'd taken the opportunity to slip out of the bed and get her self ready for the confrontation of a lifetime.
Did she know what she was doing?
No.
Was there any chance this was going to end badly?
Probably.
But she had to do it, had to find out what his deal was and why he was lying to her if not for herself for Mike because confronting him was the only thing she could think of to keep him safe.
"Kate?" he stepped out of the shadows
"I see you got my text" she dropped her hand away from her necklace
"Um yeah… what's, what's the reason for meeting in the hotel carpark?" he looked at her confused
"I've come to say goodbye…"
"Oh?"
"I'm thinking of taking a trip, back to England try and find my Dad" she stepped forward
"And Mike, he's going with you?" he asked nervously
"Mike dosen't know, it was a last-minute decision"
"Right so he dosen't know you're here?"
"No" she shook her head
"You know?" he seen her hesitation
"I overheard you and that guy, are you really even my brother?"
"I haven't lied to you Kate" he reached to the back of his pants
"But you have! You've been acting like this brother who finally found his sister and the whole time you were…"
"I told you, Marcus dragged me into the family business"
"So what, you're here to kill me?"
"I never wanted to hurt you"
"Don't lie to me!!" she yelled her voice echoing through the underground carpark
"I didn't have a choice, in this business you don't get to pick or chose"
"Business that's what you think your apart of?" she scoffed
"Kate…"
"What are you waiting for?" she looked at him sadly
"I can't…" Aden sighed moving his hand away from his back
"Just do it!"
"I can't! Your pregnant it… it isn't right"
"I knew you were a coward" a voice interrupted when Dion moved out from behind a parked car aiming a gun at her
"You set me up?" Kate looked at him in disbelief
"I didn't tell him I swear"
"No you didn't have to Aden; the Boss wired our phone anything you get sent goes directly to my phone" Dion stepped closer towards Kate
"So what are you waiting for" Kate held her hands up
"I knew the moment your name was mentioned as the latest target it was suss, the way Aden reacted the Boss didn't trust him to finish the job alone"
"Boss? What boss who do you work for?" Kate asked
"A name isn't important, but yours however you were just so damn hard to track down"
"Dion don't do this" Aden tried to step forward
"Katerina McGregor, joined the Navy and got married her Father lord Thomas McGregor is the wealthiest man in England and well he found out his little girl was alive and the Boss order him killed, your brother here he was sent to kill you to make sure you wouldn't inherit your father's estate" Dion waved the gun around
"You knew this whole time?" Kate looked past him at Aden
"I…"
"That whole conversation about finding my Father and you knew he was dead?"
"Aden here was the one who killed him" Dion smiled widely
"You… how could…" Kate stepped back
"I didn't know! Not at first I was sent to kill at target I was unaware who he was until…"
"You were sent to kill me"
"Kate I'm…" he began saying
"You bastard!"
"Enough talking, say goodbye" Dion fired a shot at her, jumping quickly behind the nearest car Kate leant against it pulling out her own gun
"Kate!" Aden pushed Dion down when he fired another round towards the car,
turning around Dion fired the gun into Aden shoulder
"You really think you can save her?" he moved to stand when Aden fell backwards clutching his wound
"She's my sister" he groaned
"She is a McGregor, her whole family are nothing but no good bastards who kill people like us for sport!" he hovered over him
"Oi!" Kate called out from near the car her gun aimed at him
"You…" he turned to face her firing a shot at the same time as her
"My name is Flynn not McGregor" she watched him drop his gun and fall to the floor
"Kate… your" Aden began saying as she fell backwards,
crawling over towards her Aden placed his hands across her chest ignoring the pain in his shoulder
"I'm so sorry Kate, I never should have come here" he teared up at seeing her struggling for air
"Your… my brother.. it.. was worth… it.." she placed a hand against his cheek when her eyes drifted closed
"SOMEBODY HELP US!" he yelled when her hand dropped to the floor
"HELP!!" he screamed again,
looking down at his blood covered hands he could see the colour beginning to slowly drain from her face at each attempt of taking a breath.
(Little fact I actually did some research to get the dress description right and the Watson Bay coordinations, hope you enjoy this update and don't kill me for leaving it on a cliff hanger.. Xx)
