AN: Enjoy a quick drabble about my second favorite Teen Titans Ship!

Prompt # 13

Unlucky

Unlucky is what she was. History proved that. She knew it deep down in her soul.

Her parents had dumped her at an orphanage before she was more than a week old. They hadn't even bothered to name her. The admins decided her name would be Penny. They always told her she was a lucky penny. Oh how wrong they were.

When she reached the age of 12, her powers manifested and made her almost kill the house mother with an untimely slip on an icy sidewalk. Somehow, the sadistic bastard known as Brother Blood located her from the errant burst of magic and convinced the admins to turn her over to him. Sometimes, she wondered how many zeroes the check had the 'convinced' them.

Four years she trained with her 'graduating class', taking the code name Jinx. Soon, there was only a handful of them left; Mammoth, Gizmo, See-more, Billy and herself. Unlucky again, the only girl on a testosterone driven villain squad. Would it have really taken the universe that much more energy to give her at least one attractive teammate.

Brother Blood didn't waste much time before he pimped their team out to Slade. Their first job was to take down the Teen Titans. And didn't they just have to be so perfect and heroic. Especially the tall, dark hero encased in metal with that steely blue eye and smooth, obsidian skin.

Unluckily, they failed. Epically. So much so that Brother Blood decides they need to take 'remedial classes', code for intense tortuous training. And that's where she met him. Victor Stone, he of the steely blue eye and obsidian skin that did pleasantly tingly things to her body that she really didn't want to dwell on. Especially when it came out that he was a hero in disguise. And everyone blamed the security breach on her! Were these people fucking morons?

It didn't take long for the Titans to storm the Hive compound and 'free' all of the students. Once on the outside, her idiot teammates elected her to be the leader. Unlucky again. It was an effort in futility, very similar to herding cats. Time after time, they found themselves meeting the Titans at the scene of every crime. If only her idiot crew had listened when she said they should move somewhere else.

She was shocked when one day See-more, the least mindless of her team, told her he was attracted to her. What shocked her more was that underneath his bizarre ocular mask, he wasn't bad looking. Maybe her luck would turn around.

Or not.

The second things went way south at a jewel heist, See-more left her in the lurch, running off as the authorities subdued her. It seemed like she would be locked up for a long, long time until her luck did change at the trial.

Stone strode into the court room, looking every bit the knight in shining armor he had become in her mind. He had made an impassioned speech about forgiveness, about how she should be given a second chance and the opportunity mend her ways. He stuck his neck so far out for her that the judge eventually made her becoming a – shudder – hero part of her rehabilitation.

She accepted the stipulations, joining Titans East, helmed by another ex-hiver Bumblebee. Silently, she pined from a distance for the mechanical man of her dreams. Trying to enjoy a guy a little closer to home, she decided to hook up with Kid Flash, his playful demeanor reminding her of…someone else. For 6 wonderful months he was the perfect boyfriend, flower, dinner, movies the works.

Then, her capricious luck changed again.

Kid Flash was transferred to Happy Harbor where he would be part of a new team called Young Justice. They tried the whole long distance relationship thing (it took maybe 3 seconds longer for him to pick her up then when he lived down the hall). Too bad, he realized he had a thing for a green clad archer girl that was a little closer to home.

Depressingly single again, she opened up to her sister from a horn headed mister, Raven. The normally reticent empath was very forthcoming when it came to relationship advice now that she could actually express her emotions. They discussed Raven's attempts to woo the heart of a certain green shapeshifter. The went on and on about Jinx's obvious crush on Cyborg and how she could win his heart of gold (Raven had seen it once, it was as Starfire would say, glorious).

Her idea of covering herself in barbeque sauce and letting him lick it off her drew a fierce blush from Raven's face.

And so Operation Bag the Borg was born (from now on, she wouldn't come up with mission names after a bottle of merlot). It all started with getting Robin to allow her to transfer to Titans West. Which he allowed. Unfortunately, her flight was delayed 5 times, and her luggage got lost. Twice.

They threw a party for her, welcoming her to the tower and the team. Non-alcoholic drinks flowed and dancing ensued. Who knew the Green Bean could move like that? She managed to corner Cyborg on the dance floor and convinced him to dance. Which was great until she caused a power outage.

Unlucky. Every step of the way.

Battles and missions followed, Jinx's joining the team giving a new dynamic to the team cohesion. Girl time with Starfire was plentiful. She found a kindred spirit in Beast Boy, cooing with delight over his comic book collection as he drooled over her Magic The Gathering cards. She enjoyed the training she was getting, both physical with Robin and magical with Raven. And then there was the Tin Man.

He would quietly drool over her on beach days, trying not to be obvious in his appreciation of her awesomeness. He had her back in battle, literally fighting back to back with her on more than one occasion.

He called her Lucky. Or in their rare private moments, his Lucky Penny.

Every so often, her unluckiness would assert itself. But he never left his side.

That had been ten years ago. They had gotten married on the rainiest day of the year (which was predicted to be sunny skies). They had taken the T-ship to Hawaii for their honeymoon, where they had to save the couples resort they were staying at from a volcanic eruption. Working with his father, Victor had found a way for the two of them to have children. Which of course led to her having twins.

She was unlucky from the start, she thought, cuddling on the couch with her twin sons and the man she loved. But who ever said being unlucky ever had to be a bad thing.
