Chapter 12 Spain & Portugal

A.N. – Okay, this chapter will be in two parts. The first will be in Spain and the second will be in Portugal. After this I will have them moving back to Italy but will not write about it. So, next chapter will begin in Italy. Let's begin!

Short Summary – The Lyoko Warriors head to the capitol of Spain to retake it before heading to Portugal. But upon arrival, they find the city almost in ruins. They immediately think of the security program, but later find out that William has reignited the conflict of Spain and Portugal from centuries ago. The Lyoko Warriors must now make to Lisbon and find a way to end the conflict.

Barcelona, Spain

The Lyoko Warriors awake the next day and give the okay to the resistance to move troops over to stay in Spain and Portugal when they leave to be ready for the war in France. They needed troops to occupy the area, so the security program doesn't try to retake it after they leave. The troops were moving out today, and by the time they leave, the soldiers should arrive. They discussed what to do and headed out to Madrid.

Outside Madrid

The Lyoko Warriors were nearly in Madrid and they didn't know what to expect. With Europe mostly being hit and miss, they didn't know if there was anything there or nothing.

"Think we'll see anything this time?" Ulrich said.

"Hard to tell" Aelita responded.

"Wasn't there some kind of conflict from Portugal and Spain long ago?" Yumi said.

"Several. War for borders, territory, and many others. They have had peace recently, but who knows what has arisen in the past months of the war."

Madrid

Upon arrival they saw a big city, but also most of it in ruins.

"I know we are close to France, but this is a little overkill, don't you think?" Odd said.

"Overkill is an understatement. The security program always does more than intended just to pass the message" Ulrich says.

"But to put a whole city in ruins. That doesn't seem like him" Yumi said.

Aelita was looking at buildings. She saw bullet holes. "Whatever happened here, it seems they fought back."

"Then where are the bodies or the dead machines?" Ulrich said.

"That's a good question."

As they continued to look for clues or any survivors to know what happened, they saw many bullet holes but no laser marks from the monsters.

"Anyone notice how there are hundreds of bullet holes but not one single laser mark?" Yumi said.

"Freaking eerie. Like something came through here but was able to wipe all evidence of who they were" Ulrich added.

"We know no monsters of causing destruction, but not leaving any evidence" Aelita said.

"Yeah, even if it was the Kolossus, we would see building toppled over" Yumi said.

"Unless he made a new monster" Odd said.

"Then it did its job well. No evidence."

Aelita searched a building. She moved a loose board, and someone pointed a shotgun at her.

"¡Manos arriba! (Hands up!)" the man said.

"Don't shoot! We're friendly!" Aelita pleaded while putting her hands up.

Another man came out and surveyed them. "Put the gun down" the man said. "You're not with them, are you?"

"With who?"

"The people who invaded and turned our wonderful city into a wasteland."

"If they already turned your city into a wasteland, why would we come here for?"

"Soldiers come through every day. Looking for survivor, supplies or anything that is useful to them."

"We have enough supplies. We don't need to rob you or kill you for any reason."

"Who are you?"

"The group of kids trying to restore freedom to the world. Some call us the Lyoko Warriors."

"I heard of you. Giving the security program a run for his money."

"More like giving him hell" Odd says.

"Who did this?" Aelita asked.

"A group of soldiers. They said they were here to take what is rightfully theirs" the man said. Another man whispered in his ear. "We believe the Portuguese dis this."

"Reignited war. Who lead them?"

"No idea. Find one and maybe you'll know."

"So, they just came through?"

"Yeah, they seemed pretty pissed too. Like someone riled them up."

"Sounds familiar."

"Just like in Russia" Ulrich said.

"They demanded we step down and surrender, we refused and then they started shooting" the man said.

"That explains all the bullet holes, but no laser marks" Aelita said.

"They took the city within an hour and all survivor are either hiding, like us, or captured and/or killed."

"Where are the bodies?"

"Burned. Didn't want any evidence of a conflict. I think they we trying to cover up their deed with the current war."

"That's what we though, but we know the security program better. This isn't like him."

"What does he do that is different?"

"Uses monsters, also no overkill destruction. Just enough to send a message."

"Yeah, I heard about Paris. Barren wasteland with bodies lining the streets."

"That's the grim reality of it" Yumi said after seeing how Paris was hit.

"When do these soldiers come through?" Aelita asked.

"Everyday. I think you missed them though" the man said.

"Want to get even?"

"What are you asking?"

"I imagine they travel in groups, so you help us trap one and you can do whatever you want with them, as long as we talk to one."

"Yeah, groups of five. Okay, you got a deal."

"One more thing. We got resistance troops landing in Barcelona soon. If we leave and they come through, don't kill them."

"As long as they don't dress like the soldiers that invaded."

"Oh, don't worry. You'll know them when you see them."

The Next Day

The next day the warriors prepared for the arrival of the men who invaded and only one day till their troops arrive in Barcelona. They discussed with the survivors how the plan would work out. One would have to hang out to dry. Next part was to wait.

Two Hours Later

After nearly two hours of waiting the troops arrived. The bait saw them coming and decided to act.

"Hey, looking for me?" the bait said.

"Pegue ele (Get him)!" the soldier said.

The soldiers chased him, and the bait lured them all into a trap filled with the survivors with shotguns pointed at them. They put down their weapons and were all captured and brough back to the survivor's safe haven. The soldiers were all tied up and the warriors started questioning.

"Any of you speak English?" Aelita asked.

"I do" one of them said.

"Then you're going to help me."

"What?"

"Who told you to do this?"

"A dark shadow like man. He wears a dark suit with a strange eye on his chest. He promised us Spain if we conquered and found a group of four warriors. I'm guessing that's you."

"William. Where is he?"

"Back in Portugal. We did it for land, not for murder. You want to end this, end him. He'll be in Lisbon but be prepared. He'll be expecting you."

"Thank you. We got a location."

"Where?" Ulrich asked.

"Lisbon, Portugal."

"About an hour flying" the man from the survivors said.

"The city is crawling with soldiers. He has it locked up tight" the soldier said.

"Can you take us there?" Aelita asked.

"No, we are stationed in Madrid. We are supposed to report if we find anybody before their fate is decided."

"He was trying to trap us."

"Let's go Aelita. We got a score to settle" Ulrich said.

Aelita left with her friends and left the soldiers there with the survivors.

"You going to kill us?" the soldier asked.

"No. We would but we shouldn't" the man responded.

Near Lisbon

The Lyoko Warriors were nearing the capitol and kept looking and seeing soldier stations. They did nothing but were probably radioing into William.

"Be prepared. The soldiers are probably radioing in" Aelita said as they entered Lisbon and landed.

They headed towards the city capitol where William is meant to be. William knew they were there and told every soldier to find them and shoot on sight.

"Be careful. Who knows what will happen" Ulrich said.

The closer they got the closer they got to the soldier that were coming to engage them. Soon enough they were met with a group of them.

"Kill them!" one of them screamed and they started firing.

The Lyoko Warriors ran for cover. The bullets continued to fire without any signs of stopping.

"What's with all these goddamn countries with 'shoot first, ask questions second' method!?" Ulrich said.

"Only this time we are not moving" Yumi said.

"We are not going anywhere with them patrolling like this" Aelita added.

"Time to be threating then" Ulrich said drawing his dual sabers. "Super sprint!" Ulrich ran to one of the soldiers and grabbed him and held the saber to his neck as well as holding him like a human shield. "You're going to take us to where the leader of this regime is. Do you hear me?"

He shook his head, and the rest of the warriors ran up.

"Anyone tries anything, he dies" Aelita said. "Time to prove how much they value lives."

Ulrich moved with the soldier as Yumi and Odd held the rear with their weapons ready for any tricks. After about thirty minutes they were at the building. They went up the steps. They entered the door. "It's your lucky day" Ulrich said as he pushed the soldier down the steps, and he closed the door.

"Let's move" Aelita said.

They went through the capitol building to find where William was held up. They were eventually captured from behind.

"The boss wants to see you" one of them said.

They were tied up and taken to where William was. William was sitting in the chair and he saw the soldiers enter with the warriors and they saw the room filled with guards.

"We would have never made it" Ulrich said.

"No doubt" Yumi said.

"Their weapons" one of them said as he handed William Ulrich's sabers, Yumi's fans, Odd's gloves, and Aelita's sleeves.

"Finally, captured and defenseless" William said.

"How long ago did you start this?" Ulrich said.

"Once you started crossing the Mediterranean. Just in case you made it, my master sent me here to make sure you wouldn't have an easy time taking these dual countries back."

"Why reignite an ancient war?" Aelita asked.

"It was the only way to kill two birds with one stone. I know of the conflict with Spain and Portugal. Portugal was never on good terms with Spain, so I used them as the vulnerable one and had them get even with Spain just to trap you. I wanted you to find me."

"Your soldiers don't like you" Yumi said.

"That's probably why they are not here. Because I think you all know what happens when you try a resistance against us when captured, you die."

Suddenly there was a commotion outside. Then the resistance came through and held up the soldiers. Ulrich stood up and one untied him. Ulrich moved forward as William summoned his sword. Ulrich grabbed his sabers and quickly stabbed William in the back making him disappear.

"Now, you will make peace with Spain" Aelita demanded.

Madrid Spain

The Portuguese and Spanish forces met to draw up the new peace treaty that ended all tensions between them. The resistance would set up a base here and wait to attack France with the rest of the resistance.

"Thanks for the assistance" Aelita said.

"That's what we are fighting for" a soldier said.

"You were supposed to be here tomorrow."

"We landed last night in Barcelona and moved throughout the night and we mad it to Spain a few minutes after you left so we pursued you to Portugal."

"I guess we trained you too well."

"Never leave a man behind. That's what we live by."

"Good thing you came. We would have never survived."

"You're welcome, general."

Aelita and her friends left Spain and headed back to the Skid. They entered the waters of the sea and headed back to Italy.

"So where are we going next?" Ulrich asked curious to find out.

"Up North, most likely Germany. Time to go home Ulrich" Aelita said.

"Yeah, home."

"What's wrong buddy?" Odd asked.

"What's going to happen. My dad and mom are there and with what happened with your parents…"

"We won't let that happen" Aelita said.

Ulrich trusted Aelita, but that uncertain factor still remained and considering what Ulrich saw in the tower, who knows if he will have to deal with the death of his parents.

A.N. – Well, Ulrich is finally going to have his homecoming and after the next chapter, the warriors will be ready to defeat the security program as all of them will have their fear factor conquered! We are still a long time from the final fight, but it is coming soon. Roughly around nine chapters left which is roughly around nine days maybe more because writing the final chapter may take a long time. The end is near! PM me with story ideas if you have any!
