Chapter 7: Truths to remember if you are going through hard times

Pangea, the world of souls can be estimated to be as big as the world of the living, if not much bigger.

And one of Pangea's sovereign state, was known to be the Soul Society, where shinigamis leave and assert their territorial power.

Soul Society is a state of 150 districts covering a vast swath of North Seiretie, with Alabastar in the northwest and Hindu extending the territory 's presence into the Qalcuan Ocean.

Major Avia Coast cities are Niara, a district finance and culture center, and capital Seiretie. Midwestern metropolis Cacia is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Lyra famous for its tourism.

All of these districts, Kuchiki clan have their vast richest parked.

Their assets mostly comes from their real estate business in the high end part of Soul Society districts, as well as investments in various trading and mining ventures.

Everything has been going well for the Kuchiki clan, except for the fact that the main branch of the ruling family has no descendant.

This fact, is a foreboding sign of up and coming chaos: to determine the rightful hier for the throne.

And so, everyone in the Kuchiki clan who has advisory positions, were pushing the current leader to remarry as soon as possible, to sier the next clan head.

Byakuya was aware of this, but he had other plans in mind.

[everything changes, it's time for you to do the same]

More than 6 years ago, he had almost conceded with the Elders demands. But when Rukia's execution and that things happened.

His eyes was opened to new ideals.

The presence of the riyoka in soul society changed the Gotei 13, and of Soul Society itself. Their thousand years of history, customs and traditions were changing for the better.

Their old idiologies are rapidly getting influenced by the foreigners.

And Byakuya is one with his own people, they gladly opened up to this positive change despite all its uncertainties.

Thousands of years of isolation, needs to be stopped when doors of opportunities opens.

[everything you need to deal with is inside you]

And those unchartered changes, lead them to one of the gravest war of all the waring history of Soul Society.

The Thousand Year Blood War, against the Quincies. The ones the shinigamis had committed genocide on, for the benefit of balance.

And this war, put to light the one thing he fears that he had never admitted even to himself.

Losing Rukia.

Byakuya is not a materialistic person despite his vast riches worthy of a king.

And he was not afraid of dying, because he had embraced it in every battle. It kept him strong and aware of the paths to victory. Power.

He did not really cared much for anything and anyone since his wife had died. Life was just a passing of time amidst obligations and responsibilities. That was all.

Until that one time he had learned to care deeply again. Rukia.

His pride.

[you've overcome challenges in the past]

And he would do everything to protect her, and keep her well.

This time is no different.

He would do what needs to be done, just like he had always been doing.

[everything is temporary, "even the longest night, eventually turns into day"]

Even though every possible way to return to Soul society were closed, and the fact that they were probably been living a life that was a total lie. He would never give up.

For them.

For Rukia.

Because he knew that, everything that makes Rukia happy was in Soul Society.

Her friends and her job as shinigami. Her upcoming promotion to captaincy.

Seeing her gloomy during their first few days in this world, was enough for him to understand. They needs to return to Soul society as soon as possible.

And for that he cannot stop. He would continue to hope.

Hope. The one word Ichigo Kurosaki taught him by his actions.

[other people went through the same thing (and came out on top)]

Everytime Byakuya remembers how Kurosaki fought against them- who were much stronger, more powerful, and in soul society – a place where Kurosaki was a foreign.

It ignited his conviction.

How can a 15 years old boy, be more bold than he who is 15 times older than him?

[just keep showing up, "if you're going through hell... keep going", said Winston Churchill]

And so, despite all hopelessness and trials coming in his way, pushing him to the ground. He walks.

Every failure, pain, suffering and walls barring him from seeing even a speck of light from this dark and unknown circumstance.

He would keep pushing forward.

Marching on.

Even if he had to leave Rukia behind, for her own well-being. Because the place he was going in was a place where he can not protect her completely.

And if he lost her.

He must as well lost everything.

[Great things require time and effort]

Despite all his fears for her, he believes in her. That's why he leaves her behind.

Because to him, Rukia is a diamond amidst the pile of dirt and coal.

And the only way for her to become her best, was for her to undergo a carefully set trials.

It would take time and effort, but he will wait. For he had seen in Rukia a leader worth putting one's trust on.

It was unheard in the history of the Kuchiki clan, for a woman that was adopted to rule over the clan. But he solemnly believes, things should be changed for the future of the clan.

And so, for the past years, he had been grooming her to become his heir. Since she was the only one aside from him, that was registered as family member in the main branch.

The lesser clan members worthy of the rank does not possess similar or better accolades than Rukia, who has not a drop of kuchiki blood in her veins but embodies the clan as a true kuchiki in full glory, especially during the recent war, where she attained the praise of the squad zero- the Soul King's personal guard.

There was another option though…

Marriage.

But he will never reconsider it again.

[You can always ask for help, "be strong enough to stand alone, smart enough to know when you need help, and brave enough to ask for it"]

Though, stressing for his family's affairs during this time, will be fruitless if they will not be able to return to Soul Society.

"Akira Scott" Byakuya uttered to himself.

It felt weird, but his presence conjures an image of Kurosaki.

Is he an ally? Or an enemy?

Byakuya closed his eyes, as he massaged the bridge between his thick eyebrows.

"Taylor Young, you're under arrest for multiple crimes. Surrender now or will shoot"

At this memory, Byakuya left his seat to walk towards the veranda of the hotel, overlooking the public central school yard.

[sometimes not getting what you want is a blessing in disguise]

As he look at the passing people down below, he unconsciously touched the piece of folded paper tucked inside his tuxedo.

That night, he aught to give her the letter before he went to map out the area, and possibly find a way to help her with their daily needs and finance.

It was almost shameful to admit: despite his knowledge and position in soul society, he was almost useless in this world.

And so, that trip lead him to prison, and then to the gangsters hub.

[your fate is decided by your mindset]

"Rukia" Byakuya uttered then.

Akira nodded in understanding.

And so, the killings begun.

In order to find the soul rippers, Byakuya performed various arts of human sacrifice. An appearance of hollows would be much welcomed he had thought back then.

His job was to hunt the most notorious of criminals in the metropolis, that the authorities are not capable of handling.

A swift assassination.

And Byakuya found the work, to be fitting.

[focus on what you can control, not what you can't]

But everything had failed.

Despite his efforts, he can't find even a single shinigamis, or even a glimpse of hollows.

It seems as though, they do not exist.

As if, Soul society does not exist relative to this world.

Or have I totally lost all my sense as a shinigami?

[hard times will only make your TED talk more interesting]

"Who is this?" rough voice can be heard saying.

Byakuya had been badly roughed by gangster who had abducted him, as soon as he was a fair distant from the police department where he was confined.

While his eyes was covered, as they beat the hell out of him.

"Boss, his Taylor, one of our runaway members" an equally coarse voice answered.

"Useless. Why take him in our hub?" the rough voice asked.

A few moments of silence passed, then a hard slap could be heard.

"B-boss, I think his an asset to the cops. With his girlfriend" the coarse voice answered in fear.

"What did you say?! Why didn't you kill them‼!" Boss exclaimed in anger. The sound of table being flipped and trashed away could be heard.

Byakuya's heart had beaten so fast at the possible harm that would fall upon Rukia.

"She is not my girlfriend! " Byakuya shouted firmly as he freed himself from his binding. "She's nothing to me but a one night whore"

At those words, Byakuya wanted to cut his tongue out for such atrocious description.

"Boss, let me work for you again. You will not regret. I can make you the Big boss in the entire metropolitan" he begged.

Then a laughter rung. "and how would a weakling like you do so?" the Boss asked intrigued.

At that point, Byakuya teared off his blinding and look at the red head middle aged bulky man in the eye.

"I will eliminate every single one of them" Byakuya declared with a blazing killer eyes.

The boss was stunned, a little bit fearful at the sight of such expression.

"ha ha ha" the boss laughed awkwardly. "I like this guy! Take him" he ordered.

[you're already blessed, everything else is bonus]

After his seemingly impossible mission, he had eaten, slept and relaxed for the remainder of the day, before going back to Rukia the next day.

He stayed with her for days, trying to think of a way to give her the money he got from his new racket.

But, all he could do was remain silent.

The next day, he went back to the hub with the money.

He expected another mission, but he was ordered to kill Rukia instead.

And he agreed.

The whole unit of 5 people accompanied him to their shelter.

Byakuya had silently exhailed the breath he was helding, in fear that Rukia was present.

Thankfully, she isn't around by the time the gang demolished their makeshift shelter.

[What did you do that put you in this situation in the first place?]

The night was fast approaching, and yet Rukia hasn't come home yet.

Byakuya was apprehensive.

And so he commanded the gang to leave, and warned them that he would finish the job.

Even though they looked stronger than Byakuya, they felt intimidated at his stance.

For just a day, this 'coward' killed two gang leaders and took over their territory all by himself. He was like a professional assassin.

The result of his extreme workout, after the incident in which Rukia was attacked by a dog, in which he had sworn to himself, to become stronger.

[there's a reward on the other side of the challenge]

After all the things he had went through, the only relief was to see the smile in Rukia's face again. At least in his memory.

He had longed to see that smile once more. Once they returned to Soul Society.

[in 10 years, this will all be a distant memory]

By that time, everything will be back to how it use to be again.

Walking in the Kuchiki gardens together.

Eating in silence, with a warm cup of tea under the Sakura trees.

Byakuya closed his eyes, and imagined a life he so desperately kept behind his stoic emotionless facade.

He would do everything to keep her around.

Even if just as platonic as being her Nii-sama.

Rukia smiled at the two young boys, fighting over who gets to hold her right hand.

To be continued...

A/N: how's this my guest? XD I am a BR fan too. I love IR though, it's like coffee and cream, my favorite combination.

But Byaruki is just something. Dark coffee. Bitter but strong. Mature. Byakuya is like the guy you know that you can rely on for sure. I like independent strong women like Rukia, but it won't hurt to have a man stronger and more capable beside you. No?

My guest, do you know why I dislike RenRuki? [I am really opinionated, bear with me. I don't dislike Renji as a character, it's their coupling was. And it's only because I want the best for my girl, or nothing at all. In order for her to remain cool and untouchable] and as for Renji, he should have become a captain, and not get dragged around Rukia's shadow. He is capable. Because of this pairing, two independently badass characters got their potentials stomped.

Because Renji is portrayed as beta male from the beginning and up to the last, he lacks conviction and indecisive. Unlike Ichigo, who was far younger but was able to have the strong will to save the person who change his world, even if he had to fight super strong and powerful shinigamis like Byakuya who had completely floored him almost killed him in just a few seconds, and enter a world where he might never be able to return, risking his life and his friends lives, to gamble in a losing battle.

THAT'S bravery for you. A true hero.

While Renji, his like your average man of today's society. Have lofty dreams but no will to take actions on it.

Rukia deserves better. My heroine needs better.

Someone who doesn't make her look silly and weak, in terms of depth.

RR was a boring couple, cliche, unimaginative and all sorts of unimpressive adjectives... But I do adore Ichika, I love that kid. She looks like her mother.

And well, as for Ichihime. She's a kind hearted and brave girl... And is portrayed to be the diva of bleach for her beauty and figure. She had the qualities every man fantasized: long legs, agrees with everything and anything, and follows the guy anywhere without question. She's the fanservice girl. That's why she lacks depth of truly independent girl. That's why she's never going to be my heroine. She's a fairy tale girl.

In today's society, women should be like Rukia [in my opinion] minus some little quirks here and there. But that's what I love about her, she's full of flaws and yet she kind of wear it beautifully.

But in real life, RR and IO, were two of the most celebrated regular couples. A healthy normal and steady match. IR and BR are both in the realm of idealism, a one in a thousand power couples.
