Blake was indeed there with Ollie, banging the windows with all her might. The others, on the other hand, were nowhere to be seen.
"Blake !" Ray shouted.
"step away." Enaya said, gesturing her words.
The young girl understood, and took Ollie away from the window. Enaya sent a blast, breaking the window. Blake was therefore able to jump in the water with the kid, which she helped to swim to the boat. Once they were on board, she held her parents in her arms. Ollie, as for him, seemed utterly distraught.
"where are the others?" Enaya asked.
"I... I... we were all together on the fifth floor when the wave hit us. When it started to calm down, we tried to reach the staircase, so we could go to the sixth floor. I went through the door with Ollie, but then the debries fell in front of the door. I tried to clear the way, but I couldn't..."
"oh no..." Benedict prayed. "please, not that..."
Enaya and Ray exchanged a look, and then the young woman got in the water. The rescuer took a neon tube, and followed her. They swam to the building, and Ray craked the tube to light it, before they dived and entered the fifth floor. There, in the middle of the room, was a sort of bubble where the water seemed denser. In the middle of the bubble was Ilian, and next to him were Tom, Liz, and Ben. The child seemed to be in a transe, while the three adults were barely. The oxygen was starting to grow thin. Ray went to grab the kid, but Mia stopped him. Breaking the bubble now could be dangerous to the others. They therefore entered the bubble, and the rescuer grabbed Ollie, while Enaya was taking Liz in her arms. They both swam back to the surface, where they all gasped for air, and Enaya went back in with Ray, while Liz and Ben were hoisted on the boat. A few minutes later, the rescue team was back with Tom and Ilian. Benedict held his friend tightly in his arms, like he had done with Liz, hands shaking violently.
"thank god!" he let out in a breath. "thank god!"
"I'm okay." Tom said in a tired voice. "we're all okay."
"but how?" Ollie asked, still tears in his voice as his brother was soothing him down.
It was Liz who answered. The actress had sat down on the boat's floor, head in her hands. She pointed Ilian.
"he shielded us." she said.
"How are you feeling, Liz?" Enaya asked.
"dizzy... but I'm okay."
"that's oxygen deprivation." Ray explained. "you should feel better in a moment."
the actress nodded, and Enaya got to her son's eight. The little boy looked down.
"how long have you known?" she asked softly.
"I'm sorry, mom..."
"How long have you known?" she insisted.
"since Broadchurch. Nate gave it to me."
"oh, honey... why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't want you to worry..."
"why would I worry? True, I wish you could have a normal life. But you're my son. You'll be magnificent, and I'm poud of you. I will always be proud of you, no matter what happens.
"but Nathaniel was a puppett when he gave me the gift. So what if the Pupeteer was controlling me as well, now?"
"Sweety, this is why you should have told me. Not because it's dangerous, no. because I could have told you. He can never controle you. You're the only person in the world he cannot control. Do you know why? Because your very life is an act of resistance to him. When your father and I made you, he was acting against the Pupeteer's orders. That's why he fears you, my love. You are so much stronger than him."
still on her knees, she opened her arms, and he came to her.
"Mia..." Benedict softly said. "remember. The universe could collapse."
"oh, yes. Of course, you're right. Are you ready?"
"what are you talking about?" Tom asked, frowning.
"Blake, your sister's alive." Emma explained. "they're gonna bring her back."
"what?!"
Enaya got on her feet, and came next to him.
"can you see her?" she asked.
"yes."
"focus on her. Only her. Now, reach your hand out to her. I'm gonna put my hands on your temples. Reach your hand out to her. Take her hand. Very good. Now we have to find her."
she closed her eyes for a moment, concentrating.
"gotcha!" she finally said. "pull her, now. Pull!"
with a scream of effort, Benedict pulled with all the strenghth of his mind, bringing his arm back to him. And with his arm, he brought back a young girl. She stumbled, and Enaya caught her. Benedict let her hand go, and let himself fall, drained out, while Ray ran to hold his daughter in his arms. Enaya knelt in front of the actor, and took his hands. They were soon joined by Tom, Liz and Ilian.
"good job, Nevermaaran." she said.
"Nevermaaran?" he asked.
"it means miracle maker." Tom translated. "you do have a tendency to resurect people."
"you know..." he sighed. "about these caribean hollidays. I think I might just be tempted."
and that's how, about a week later, after a well deserved rest in a beautiful caribean resort, they were ready to open a new portal.
"I could have stayed here forever..." Tom sighed.
"I have to admit it's nice." Liz said. "but I'd rather go home, someday."
"Ilian, are you ready?" Mia asked.
"you will come back, mom, won't you?"
"yes, my love. I'll come back."
"do you swear?" he asked, looking her straight in the eyes.
"I promise." she replied.
He looked at her for a moment, sounding his mother's soul, and then put a smile on his face, and came to hold her in his arms. Benedict opened the portal, and mother and son parted away. She watched him go, a half-smile on her lips. She felt Tom's hand on her shoulder, which he pressed gently as the portal closed. She came back to herself when the second portal opened.
"time to go." she declared.
The four adults took eachother's hand, and they crossed together. When they arrived, they looked around them. There was a moment of shocked silence.
"when I said I could have stayed longer in the caribean, that's not exactly what I had in mind." Tom said, cynical.
"oh, shut up!" Benedict said.
