"I need your advice," Lestrade said, as he finished the cup of tea and piece of pie Mrs Hudson had set in front of him. The kitchen was warm and smelled of cinnamon and anise, and a little ball of fluff with teeth chewed on Lestrade's shoe.
"My advice?" Mrs Hudson asked, setting another piece of pie in front of Lestrade, and sitting down across from him. "Holmes and Watson have already left for the day, or did you want one of my recipes?"
"No," Lestrade said, looking torn over whether or not to accept the second piece of pie, then giving in. "It's a case, I was hoping you could give me some insight. There's been a series of break-ins. Barely anything is stolen from the homes, except for food, and a few other items of little value."
"Maybe the thief was hungry," Mrs Hudson suggested. "What was usually stolen?"
Lestrade sighed as he noticed how quickly his second slice of apple pie was disappearing. "Eggs, milk, flour, it was never the same in any of the houses, and always seemed to be an item they had in excess."
Mrs Hudson frowned in thought for a moment. "Make me a list of exactly what was stolen, and in what amount. I have an idea of who the thief might be."
