Hello. I doubt anyone would be reading this, but if you are, congrats! You successfully got this far into my bad story.
A realized most of my chapters are becoming duplicates of the episodes, so I knew I needed to add a little more originality to it. I hope it'll work well.
Well, onto the chapter I guess.
It was already evening, and the three girls were having a seat together, patiently waiting for Kiyama Harumi. Emilia didn't give her friends the documents yet, and she already fell asleep before she could. Normally, she wouldn't be able to sleep in the heat, but her ability kept in tabs for that.
"Argh it's so hot." Kuroko groaned. "How are these two able to sleep in this humid?" Kuroko rested her head against the seat with a sigh. Why isn't Emilia sweating?
Then it hit her. "Emilia, wake up." She said to the black, messy haired girl. She promptly shook her until Emilia lifted her eyelids a millimeter. "What?" She said, in a normal voice. She was still slightly half asleep, but just as Kuroko thought, she wasn't bothered by the heat at all.
"Do you think… you could cool this place down a little?" Kuroko asked in a hopeful tone. She knew Emilia was abnormally stronger than a level 1, and she couldn't question her why, because Emilia didn't know either. Plus, knowing Emilia, she probably would say something like: "Why would you care?".
"Oh. Sure." Emilia hesitated, looking away for a second. She then proceeded to hold out her palm as if she was checking the temperature. Then, Kuroko felt a sudden breeze, like she was having a personal fan. Emilia laid backwards again, planning on going back asleep. Her relaxation was interrupted with the conclusion of the examination on the comatose victims.
Kuroko stood up, but realized that Mikoto was still asleep. "Onee-Sama, wake up." Mikoto won't wake up. Kuroko turned to Emilia, hoping she would do something.
"Don't ask me. I would rather not anger a level 5." Emilia said reasonably. "I'm going to leave. Oh right, here." Emilia handed Kuroko the documents. "I wouldn't go around showing it to people, they might just attack you for it."
"You can count on me." Kuroko said confidently.
Suddenly, she got a phone call. As she reached towards her phone, Emilia interrupted her. "I got it, just forward me the details." Kuroko looked at her college in surprise. Emilia was usually a slacker, but it was nice that she at least does her job from time to time.
She smiled, and then proceeded to forward the message to Emilia.
"What's the situation?" Emilia asked calmly to another boy with an armband. He looked nervous, gritting his teeth and sweating. He was blond, and thin. It would be hard to believe that someone like him was in judgment.
"You're Shrai?" He asked, turning towards her.
"No, I'm her colleague." Emilia said. "What's the situation?" She repeated. The boy looked at the side and Emilia followed his gaze to find broken windows in a bank.
Emilia sighed. How did I not notice that? I was trying to sound professional. She noticed a masked robber cornered in the bank, with a little girl as a hostage.
Emilia looked at the gun and froze a part of it. Though it was subtle, the gun shouldn't be functional. The problem was, how was she going to convince everyone in the scene that the gun was jammed. She closed her eyes and noticed that the robber and the girl were the only two people there.
"Why are you closing your eyes? Are you using your ability?" The boy suddenly said to Emilia, taking her by surprise. "You look calm too, do you know what you're doing?"
Emilia took a step back, shocked that the boy would pay attention to her rather than the scene. "Well, I…"
"Call me Jason." He says. "Well anyway, you looked like you noticed something. Spit it out, we need all the help we can get."
That name isn't from here. "Well, I'm Emilia. I noticed that the man's gun is jammed. But I wouldn't gamble a girl's life because of my observation."
"Interesting. Does your ability do that?"
Emilia shook her head. "No, I have no combat-related ability, I just noticed. I can make a good guess if a gun is jammed, but of course I can't guarantee it." Emilia thought harder for openings. It felt like she was handicapped. Given her ability, it was a cakewalk to defeat people with ease. However, not being able to use her ability forced Emilia to think outside the box.
This is so much harder than the dark side! How does Judgement even keep peace?
It suddenly hit her. That's right! Judgement relies on their teammates to complete their missions! She turned to Jason. "What is your ability?" She needed to come up with a strategy to take the man down. Sure, she could just pretend that she's working and let the professionals handle the rest, but she couldn't. She wanted to contribute to Judgement, there's also the girl who looks scared out of her skin. Emilia's been there before. She knew exactly how the girl felt.
Jason was zoned out for awhile, then upon the realization that Emilia was asking her a question he responded immediately. "I can turn things invisible. Including people. I was originally going to have Shrai teleport there invisible, then have her disarm the man."
"You know Shrai?"
Jason shook his head. "I know everyone. We didn't really talk, but I know her. All Judgement members are supposed to know each other."
"Yeah, I'm kind of new here."
"Figures as much. I was wondering why I didn't recognize you."
"Anyway, could you make me invisible? I want to sneak up on him."
Jason looked shocked. "That's insane! You don't even have a useful ability! Being invisible doesn't make you invincible y'know!"
"I know what I'm doing. Plus it looks like the man is running out of patience." Emilia turned her head towards the man pressing the gun against the girl's head noticeably harder than before.
Jason looked at the scene and gasped. He rubbed his forehead, desperate for a way. He finally gave in and placed his hand on Emilia's shoulder. "You're invisible. I hope you know what you're doing."
Emilia blinked. I don't feel any special…
"ALRIGHT, ENOUGH PLAY TALK. I'M GOING TO COUNT DOWN FROM 15!" The man shouted.
Jason was sweating profusely. "Wait! We'll let you go!" He cried, trying to buy Emilia time. He knew that someone sneaking won't be able to get very far in just 15 seconds, and if the person was sneaking too fast, the man would hear immediately. But to Jason's horror the man refused. "Huh? Nah, I suddenly feel like killing someone after you making me wait for so long. NEXT TIME, DON'T MAKE ME WAIT ALL DAY!"
However, Emilia wasn't sneaking. In fact, she was already next to the man, waiting to strike.
"Nine… Eight… Seven… Six… Fiv-"
Emilia grabbed the man's wrist and twisted it. He dropped the gun on the floor screaming. "You asshole! How did you sneak up on me?" He says, throwing a punch at Emilia.
Huh, so my invisibility wears off when I touch someone else. She dodged, only to notice that Jason was charging forward, seizing the opportunity. He performed a drop kick on the man's ribs, knocking him over. "You're under arrest."
Emilia realized her work was done, and yawned. It was late, she was going to go home. She turned around to go home, but Jason grabbed her wrist. "Where are you going? We have to report to anti-skill."
Emilia shook free from Jason. "I'll leave that to you. It's a hassle and I'm sleepy."
"It's 7pm! How can you be sleepy now? How did you sneak by the man so quickly?" Jason was filled with curiosity, even though Emilia tried to be as discreet as possible.
"Hey, kid! Will you report to me what happened?" A man from Anti-Skill walked to the scene. It looks like they were called, but Emilia and Jason handled the situation before they can even be of any help. "We're sorry, we tried coming as fast as possible. We seriously thought the girl was a goner."
"Yes, it was thanks to-" Jason turned to look at his fellow Judgement officer.
But Emilia already left.
The next day, Emilia was hanging out in the Judgement office. Thanks to the documents Emilia handed over to Kuroko, Judgement knows what they really are dealing with. The question was, what were they going to do about it? Kazari already found the usual meeting spots people tend to meet, much to Kuroko's thanks.
"Break time." She mutters to herself. She gulped down the rest of the coffee in her 6th cup and leaped into the couch. Despite her excessive coffee drinking, felt like she was going to pass out. With both jobs in the dark side and judgement, she averaged 5 hours of sleep per day. Emilia didn't really need to join judgement, but she felt like she needed to atone her sins for all the people she killed. Even if it's only a little.
At this rate, Azusa will never be free. But X doesn't give any openings for me. He's too cautious and paranoid, all the time.
Emilia sighed and rolled over to her side. She opened up her phone to pick a song for her to listen to, but noticed the time on her phone and groaned in agony. It was time for her patrol. Emilia wanted to do anything but walk at the moment, she had to sneak out of her room in the middle of the night to fulfill another mission. Have to do it eventually. She herself got out the couch and brought a hoodie to hide the bags under her eyes. Emilia can control her temperature anytime, so she didn't need to worry about being too hot.
She left the office and went for a walk. The relaxing breeze in the air made Emilia want to plop down in the middle of the street and fall asleep. At this point, she wasn't even sure if she was sleepwalking.
"How much?" A suspicious man asked. Emilia leaned in closer to find a group of gang members discussing matters. More importantly, one of them was holding a level-upper. Emilia recalled with her foggy mind that this was one of the meeting spots Kazari found using her hacking skills.
She walked down the almost empty alleyway to meet the gang face on. The men turned to look at the girl. "Look girl, you came here at the wrong place at the wrong time. Give us all your money and pretend nothing happened. That way, we will only defile you a little."
The men chuckled at the order. They were smug, confident that they would be earning some cash. Emilia took off her hoodie and put on her armband.
"This is Judgement, blah blah blah. Let's get this over with."
"OUTNUMBER HER!" One of them yelled. They all charged at her at once. They at least knew they shouldn't underestimate a judgement member, but they were terribly uncoordinated.
Emilia stepped to the side and tripped one of the men. It was a move Kuroko taught her, it wasn't useful to her for the dark side due to the fact most people don't run straight forwards towards her.
Two more guys attempted to punch her but Emilia merely ducked, causing the guys to stumble forward and fall behind her. The second to last guy ran forward, clearly indicating that he was going to do a dropkick. Emilia sensed that the man she tripped earlier got up and also charged for her.
Emilia simply moved to the side, resulting in the 4th guy drop kicking the 1st guy, making them fall over on the 2nd and 3rd guys. Emilia looked back at the dogpile of guys she created just from simple dodges. Emilia was too tired to do any kicks or punches of her own.
The last guy, who appeared to be the leader bit his lip, and pulled out a revolver. "Give up! Now!"
Emilia stood there in silence.
The leader shut his eyes and pulled the trigger, the bullet went for Emilia's head. However, Emilia already calculated the trajectory of the bullet and simply tilted her head to the side. The man sweat dropped harshly.
"M-monster! How did you do that?!" He dropped the gun and took a step back, falling on his bum. He was beyond terrified.
Emilia yawned and pulled out her phone. "Kuroko?" She looked at her phone again. She didn't answer… She's probably busy then. She often called her more experienced college for help whenever she was in a situation she never was in before.
"Hello? Anti-Skill? Uh, yeah I'm from Judgement. I'm kinda new to this, so I don't know the usual protocol. I neutralized some thugs in possession of a suspicious device. They resisted. Trace the call and come. I'm leaving the scene, my patrol is over." She ended the call before she could hear anything in response.
That should do. I really was sloppy there, I was so sleepy, I can't think rationally. I could have just jammed the gun, I could have asked for backup. I didn't have to show off that much.
After that thought, Emilia walked back home. She was supposed to return the judgement armband to the office, but she was too lazy for that. How on earth is it evening already? I only beat up some guys, and did… a lot of walking.
As the girl walked into her room, she immediately plopped on her bed and fell asleep. No changing to PJs, no brushing teeth, none of that.
Azusa sat up on her bed, blankly staring into the wall. It was strange. Her parents didn't seem to be visiting her, and they didn't write any letters. Emilia was the only one visiting her. She didn't want to be a burden for her, but she will admit, she loved it when Emilia visited. It was the only company she got to have after a while.
I may be an ignorant clumsy loser, but that's not going to stop me from achieving my dreams! I will do my best no matter what happens! Once I get discharged… Maybe I have to wait another year or something? Wait… how do hospitals work? Man… I could go for some Takoyaki or something.
Azusa went back to daydreaming about completely random things.
