Thank you, guys for all of your lovely reviews. I noticed that some of you don't always agree with the medical aspects of this story, and that's totally fine, but writing about medical things isn't very easy since I'm not a doctor ;) I'm trying my best to keep this as realistic as possible and I apologize for any mistakes, but writing about something that includes medicine is a real challenge. I hope you enjoy the chapter and as always, please let me know what you think :)
The screams coming out of the blonde's room had made the Latina's blood run cold and caused her pulse to quicken and the blood to drain from her face. The adrenaline surged through her veins as another painful scream echoed through the intensive care unit and made the hair on the back of her neck stand up. Callie had barely managed to put her scrubs back on before she came stumbling into the room and spotted Arizona screaming and squirming in her bed. Her mouth was rigid and opened wide and her fists clenched with paled knuckles as her nails had dug into the palms of her hands. The blonde's ocean eyes were slammed shut and her legs slid back and forth as if she had desperately tried to escape from something or someone. The painful and terrified screams had torn through the Latina's body like a shard of glass and before she could comprehend what was happening or make a conscious decision, her legs slowly brought her to her wife. Callie had no clue as to what she would do when she got to the bed, but she had known that she had to get there, fast.
"Arizona, Arizona, baby, hey, calm down." Callie said lovingly and reached out for her wife's hand, but to her surprise, the blonde hadn't reacted in a good way.
"NO! G-GET OFF OF ME!" the blonde screamed, her eyes still slammed shut as her body had shaken uncontrollably.
"Honey!" Callie said, louder this time as a painful sting hit her heart. It had hurt badly to see the blonde like this and caused her heart to send waves of pain and shock through her body.
"H-HELP ME!" Arizona screamed again and this time, it had sounded as if her life was depending on it. Callie had heard her wife scream many times before and she had known what it was like to be yelled at by her, but in all of these years, the Latina had never heard her scream and groan like this. Arizona had sounded incredibly scared and vulnerable and wouldn't stop screaming, no matter what the brunette had tried to do.
The monitors had showed signs of stress and an increasingly faster heartbeat, and that's when Callie had realized she had to act fast. The brunette couldn't figure out what was wrong with her girl, but there was one last thing she had wanted to try before calling Bailey or other doctors to help her and possibly stress her wife even more. Callie swallowed hard and sang Arizona's favorite song to calm her down.
My love
There's only you in my life
The only thing that's bright
The loud screams had slowly turned into groans and the heavy breathing had slowed down.
My first love
You're every breath that I take
You're every step I make
And I
I want to share
All my love with you
No one else will do
And your eyes
They tell me how much you care
Oh-oh yes, you will always be
My endless love
A low sigh escaped the blonde's lips as her screams and groans had finally ended. Arizona had opened her eyes slowly and for a moment, she had no clue where she was or what had happened to her. The blonde took a few deep and long breaths and the monitors stopped beeping.
"Sweetie, what...what happened?" Callie asked, relief washing over her that her wife had finally stopped screaming.
"I...uh, I had a nightmare, but...you...you pulled me out of it when you started singing." Arizona explained.
"Gosh, I'm so glad I could pull you out, but...you were screaming terribly…" Callie whispered as a few tears escaped her eyes. She hated to cry because she wanted to be the strong one for her, but she couldn't.
"I'm sorry. I, I didn't want to scare you." the blonde sighed.
Callie squeezed the hand of her lover tightly and even though Arizona couldn't see the brunette's face completely due to the mask she had been wearing, she could see her sad eyes smiling. "Don't ever be sorry for something like that, honey. Do you want to...um...tell me what you dreamt about?"
"Calliope…" the blonde sighed again.
"You don't have to tell-" Callie tried to say but was interrupted by her wife.
"No, I...I want to tell you. It's just very…scary."
"You can tell me anything, Arizona." the Latina said and stroked her softly.
"Thank you." Arizona smiled. "You and I were...um, we were kidnapped by a man and he...he tortured you in front of my eyes and…" the blonde's voice broke. "...he made you scream in pain while I was handcuffed and couldn't help you."
"Arizona, I-"
"He almost killed you." the blonde interrupted her as tears streamed down her face. "I screamed for him to let you go and then...then he walked over to me and put a knife to my throat and cut me when I screamed for help."
Callie gasped at the sudden confession of what her spouse had dreamed and the fact that her wife had to dream about something as terrible as this while she had already been suffering so much had broken the brunette's heart. Callie's eyes had glimmered with watery tears and the muscles of her chin had trembled like those of a small child. Arizona had already gone through so much and the amount of compassion she felt for her wife was stronger than ever before.
"I'm so sorry." Callie cried. "You are already going through so much."
"You have no idea how badly I want to kiss you."
The Latina lifted her gaze to look into Arizona's wife and hearing those words from her had her smiling slightly. "I want to kiss you too, honey."
"You should go home, Calliope. You've been here for so long and you need to get some rest."
"Are you sure?" Callie asked, not wanting to leave her girl alone.
"Yes." Arizona sighed and squeezed the brunette's hand once more.
"I love you."
"I love you too."

The next day Callie had gone back to the hospital to see her wife and to check on her. She was tired and exhausted from last night because if she was honest, the night had been terrible for her and she missed the intimacy between her and her wife terribly. They hadn't fallen asleep in each other's arms in a long time and the Latina had missed the feeling of being close to her more than anything in this world. The dark circles underneath her brown eyes had shown how little sleep she had gotten, but it hadn't stopped her from seeing Arizona. Being able to see her, despite the terrible disease she had still been fighting was the greatest blessing. Callie had been aware how rare it was for families to see their loved ones while they were fighting Covid at the hospital, so it had felt even more special to her. On her way to the ICU, the Latina stepped into one of the elevators. Before the doors had closed completely, Bailey had come running in and positioned herself next to her. Bailey had noticed the dark circles underneath her eyes immediately and looked at the coffee the brunette was holding in one of her hands.
"Bad night?" the Chief asked.
"Yep. I can't sleep very well without her by my side and I've been thinking a lot about her condition." Callie explained.
"I understand. I heard she had a nightmare while you were there?"
"Yes, it was terrible. I hope she doesn't have one again." the brunette sighed.
"Unfortunately, she has already had more. She has gone through a lot, but...um…"
"What?" Callie asked, almost dropping her coffee. Her nerves had been all over the place.
"I think this could be a possible side effect of the coma we have put her in. Patients can experience vivid nightmares or hallucinations after a medically induced coma." Bailey explained.
"I was hoping she wouldn't have to experience any side effects. She's still fighting so hard." the Latina said with sadness in her voice.
"I'm really sorry, Callie. We'll try everything in our power to get her back on her feet, but we have to wait with exercises and things like that until she doesn't test positive anymore."
"Oh, so you've taken a test?" Callie asked.
"Yes, this morning. She's still testing positive, but that's no surprise. It's only been a week. Do you want to tell her or should I?" the Chief asked.
"I will, thank you."
"Alright." Bailey agreed as the elevator doors opened.
It hadn't taken long for the brunette to scrub in and to open the door to the by now, very familiar room. The blonde had looked a little better than last night, but the circles underneath her eyes had been just as bad as Callie's, if not worse. Arizona smiled as she watched her beautiful wife walk into the room and reached out her hand as a sign for the Latina to walk over to her.
"Hey, baby." Callie smiled.
"Hey, how are you, sweetheart?" Arizona asked.
"I'm good, thank you. Just a little tired. How's my beautiful wife doing?" the Latina asked as soft hands finally met.
"I'm tired and I feel exhausted, but I'm getting better."
Callie sighed at the blonde's words. "Did you have nightmares again?" she asked and watched Arizona's eyes drop to the floor.
"Yes."
"I'm so sorry. Bailey said it could be a possible side effect due to the coma they put you in."
"Oh…" Arizona gasped.
"I also have to tell you that you're still positive. I think it will take up to another week for you to test negative." Callie explained and watched the tears form in the blonde's ocean eyes.
"Means I...I can't see Sofia and I can't kiss you for another week?" Arizona asked.
"Yes. I'm so sorry. I wish there was something I could do." the brunette sighed and stroked the blonde's cheek.
"I need you so badly." Arizona cried.
"I need you too, honey. There's nothing I would rather do than to kiss and hug you and to take you home. I hope we can start getting you back to normal soon."
"Me too."

A long and painful week with many ups and downs had gone by and it was finally time for Arizona to get tested again. The blonde had been waiting for this day for what felt like eternity and with each passing day, the need to go home and see her child had grown stronger. It would take a few more days for the blonde to go home, but she had known she was getting closer and closer to hugging her sweet daughter and her beautiful and loving wife. During the past week, the doctors had made sure to run tests and to provide Arizona with fluid, vitamins and food that would strengthen her body and make her healthier. The surgeons and nurses, including Chief Bailey, couldn't have been any nicer to the blonde, but spending so many nights without Callie by her side had been nothing but terrible. The nightmares had continued and left her sweating and panting for air every single night and made her feel incredibly scared to fall asleep. Before Callie had come to visit her one morning, the blonde had taken another test to see if she was still positive or if she had finally beaten the disease. She knew it needed a lot more time for her to fully recover, but testing negative was everything she had been waiting for. The urge to hug her wife whenever she had walked into the room had grown stronger and stronger and being separated from her daughter had almost killed her. Arizona felt so sorry for her little girl. No child should have to go through something as terrible as this and it had broken both Callie's and Arizona's hearts.
A few hours after Arizona had been tested, Callie walked in and had a bright smile on her face. The Latina walked over to the blonde and before Arizona could react or hold her back, Callie's strong arms wrapped around the blonde and pulled her into a really long and tight hug.
"Calliope...what are-" Arizona tried to ask but was quickly interrupted by her beautiful wife.
"You're negative, honey!"
