-Chapter 11-

"Why did I marry Tom?" Sarah repeated his question, looking back at the young man. "The reason why anyone would get married. We loved each other and only wanted each other...I mean, I was a bit of a wild girl in my twenties...smoked, drank, partied, had a lot of sex with these loser boyfriends, but then it was like Tom saved me. He was just so kind, it was different from what I'm used to with men." she explained. "We were the best of friends, we were active in politics, we traveled, shared many moments together... but a part of our relationship was missing something."

"You were missing your rebellion." Huey replied.

The mother turned away again. "You could say that." she replied. "It may seem like we're alike, but we're different at the same time. That's why we were always fighting as time went on, but here we are now barely surviving, you know? It was the most comfortable for both of us."

Huey listened carefully and began to piece together the puzzle. "Mrs. Dubois, did you two...stay married because of Jazmine?" he asked.

Sarah paused, before turning the lights out again. He felt her soft, warm body snuggle up against his chest, at least until Tom would be heading home. "Huey, can we not talk about this anymore?" the mother asked. Huey decided to stop prying into it, that response was all he needed. Maybe he could get her to open up more with a new topic.

"So...Jazmine is coming this weekend." Huey started, hoping to get a response.

"Don't talk about Jazmine, Huey." Sarah replied.

"Hm?" Huey felt perplexed at this request. "Why don't you want me to talk about her?"

"Because I don't want you to." Sarah replied sternly.

"Why not?" Huey once again asked. "Me and Jazmine have known each other since we were kids, why is she suddenly a taboo subject, Mrs. Dubois?"

"It's nothing, just go to bed." Sarah replied.

Huey sighed. "Guess I'll have to take Jazmine out and ask her myself." he commented.

Suddenly the lights came on in a flash and Huey felt Sarah remove herself from on top of him. His wine tinted eyes saw her blue ones glare directly at him. They were as cold as ice this time, indicating her anger. "What did you just say?!" she growled.

Huey was taken aback from her sudden mood change. "Mrs. Dubois, calm-"

"Don't you EVER take Jazmine out!" Sarah snapped, almost like a mother bear. "You hear me, Freeman?!" she added as she got up from the bed.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Huey asked, sitting up. He watched as the mother got a cigarette from her stash, not caring about the scent in the house anymore. "I was just kidding around about taking her out." Sarah only rolled his eyes at the response.

"You're full of shit, Huey Freeman!" Sarah roared.

"Keep your voice down!" he hushed her. The last thing he needed was the neighborhood watch after him. Sarah followed and began to calm herself down by taking a puff of her cigarette.

"Good." Sarah replied in triumph.

"Well...why shouldn't I?" Huey asked the mother.

"Because I said so." Sarah replied. It was a typical mom answer.

"You're her mother yes, but she's grown and you have no say in her dating life." Huey argued.

"I have my reasons."

"Yeah? Then let's hear them." the revolutionary said, standing up. "and I bet I know what the reasons are."

"What then, Huey?"

"That you don't think I'm good enough for your daughter or to even talk about her!" Huey stated. "but I'm good enough to be your side nigga huh?! You think I like being here? Spending my time with a broken, alcoholic, housewife with no passions other than fucking other men?"

"What do you want me to say, Huey?" Sarah asked, exasperated. "Yes, you're not good enough for my daughter! Are you happy now?!" she added. Huey just stared at the older woman, clearly angered, but didn't say anything else after that.

Sarah looked back at the young man wondering where this conversation was going to lead to and if she was ready for it. She wondered if the young man was showing his insecurity for the wrongdoings of this affair. Even Huey himself was seeing truth to those words, maybe he was not good enough for Jazmine and felt like a scumbag for screwing her own mother.

The blonde woman began to put on her robe after another successful encounter. Huey eyed her carefully as he sat on the bed.

"Please promise me you won't ask Jazmine out." Sarah instinctively warned.

Huey glared at her. "First off Mrs. Dubois, I will associate with whoever I want." he confronted firmly. "and second, where did you even come up with that bullshit? It never occurred to me to go out with your daughter!"

The older woman carefully tied her short hair up in a messy bun as she faced him. "Just promise me you won't, okay?! I'll be at ease if you give me your word right now!" she demanded.

"...What are you getting at?" Huey suspiciously asked.

Sarah crossed her arms. "You've always been attracted to my daughter haven't you…" she whispered venomously.

"No!" Huey denied immediately. "I'm not attracted to Jazmine. Get out of your thoughts, Mrs. Dubois."

"Then it won't be a problem, Huey." Sarah replied with confidence as she slid next to him. "Won't it?" she asked.

The man sighed, feeling defeated. There was no point in entertaining this nonsense. "Fine...I won't ask out Jazmine, Mrs. Dubois. Are you happy? Is that what you wanted?"

The man hated feeling defeated, but he knew he shouldn't have entertained Sarah's adulterous nature. He knew he should've never been involved in her business and stayed in his lane. The revolutionary felt trapped in this "relationship", which all started when he showed her kindness

The mother smirked triumphantly, she had him right where she wanted him. "Good…" she spoke up. "I'm glad you see it my way, Huey. Now listen...it's not that you aren't good enough..you're just not right for each other. As a mother, I have a knack for this sort of stuff."

Huey listened to her words, they sounded like silk but they were venomous as it comes. Maybe it was for the best that Huey would stay away from his friend, the first kid he had met when he moved to Woodcrest and certainly the kindest one. Huey believed that Jazmine deserved better than him in her life.

"Stay Huey…" Sarah whispered in his ear as she undressed from her robe, implying that she had wanted more. "Stay with me…"

Feeling broken and defeated, Huey whispered to the mother.

"I'll stay…"

One morning, Huey was at the table eating breakfast with Granddad and Riley. It's been a while since the Freeman family ate breakfast as a family. Because Jazmine had arrived last night at her parents' house, she would be visiting the Freeman family and Granddad wanted his grandsons awake, especially Huey. The young man wasn't sure how he would ever face her again after what he did with her mother. He knew Caesar was correct about coming clean, it was the only honorable thing to do now in this situation that he got so deep in. Huey valued the truth, he was always blunt and honest with someone even if it would hurt their feelings, however now it was like he was lying to everyone's face. This wasn't like him and he felt angry with himself.

"So Jazmine came home last night." Granddad stated, cutting a piece of his sausage. "Huey, you should take Tom's advice and invite her out somewhere."

Riley snickered. "Nice try, Granddad. Huey's too much of a bitch to make a move on his girl!" he said, getting a glare from the older brother.

"Boy, watch your mouth!" Granddad barked before turning to Huey. "and as for you, you need to do something different besides being lazy! If you don't-"

Suddenly the doorbell rang which caught the Freemans by surprise. "Boy, go answer it." Granddad ordered his eldest. Huey then got up from his chair and headed to the front door. He opened the front door, having a feel that he knew who it was. However when the door was opened, the revolutionary was immediately taken in awe at a very beautiful woman standing at the doorstep, seeing a very familiar face that he had missed the most before.
