Nico's P.O.V
I hate mornings. My sisters shook me awake at breakfast, and if I wasn't so happy to see them getting on, I would have turned over and gone back to sleep.
We walked to the pavilion, Hazel and Kate talking about camp. Kate was curious about everything and everyone, and loved to hear about the Roman camp and Frank apparently. Frank was at Camp Jupiter doing praetor-y things.
I was worried though. Kate had a girlfriend and me a boyfriend, though she didn't know. Hazel was from a time when that wasn't so great. I had struggled with that, and it had taken me awhile to come to terms with it. I wondered how Hazel would take it.
We reached the dining pavilion and sat down at the Big Three table. Percy and Jason were already there and eating. I put my head down on the table and sulked. Mornings suck. A lot.
"Hey, guys, is Nico good?" Jason sounded mildly concerned.
"We woke him early."
"He's sulking."
I didn't move. That was effort and also weakness. I could keep my head for as long as I wanted. They weren't going to stop me, the silly idiots. But then Will had to show up. Gods damn it, Will.
"Hi guys!"
"Hey Will. Sorry about Nico, he's sulking."
That was it. I lifted my head and death glared at Jason.
"I. Am. Not. Sulking!"
"Whatever you say, Deathboy."
"Solace!"
I gave in to the temptation to look up. I gave everyone my best death stare, but it fell kind of short on Will. As always.
He instead did his doctor-y glare and shoved toast in my face. Literally. I had butter all over my nose. Let's just say my death glare worked this time.
As I was glaring at Will, and wiping butter off my nose, Lily walked over and talked quietly to Kate. They both looked nervous and Will and I watched them apprehensively, knowing what they were going to do.
"Um, guys," Kate raised her voice so the seven plus Reyna, Will and me could hear. "This is my girlfriend Lily."
All eyes flicked to Hazel and me as the people from the past. I just smiled at Lily and Kate.
"What guys? We all know whoever my sisters date are gonna get the talk, no matter who they are."
Hazel stood, and the smile was wiped from my face. She looked expressionless and she stared and the couple. Oh Gods. It took me several years of internalised homophobia to get to a comfortable state with my sexuality. Hazel probably has a bad view of LGBT people.
Will nudged me and whispered. "Breathe, Nico."
I couldn't. The pavilion had gone deathly silent and everyone stared at Hazel. Will walked towards her and although he spoke quietly, his words seemed to echo.
"Hazel, you're scaring them."
She turned to look at me. "No one is gonna take them away anymore, are they? They're safe here right?"
"Hazel, they don't take people like that away anymore."
"Thank Gods!" She hugged Kate and Lily tightly. "I don't want them to take you away."
I breathed a sigh of relief, and turned to smile at Will, who grabbed my hand under the table.
Jason looked at us suspiciously, but made no comment. The pavilion went back to eating, chatting and generally being loud.
It was early evening, and Will turned up at my cabin and asked me if I wanted to go for a walk. It was nice weather, although it was nearly autumn.*
We walked away from camp, into the woods, and when we were out of view of the cabins, Will grabbed my hand. I felt a stupid blush creep up my neck. He grinned at me, almost smugly, and I hid my face in my other hand.
We walked for half and hour or so, until we reached a large fallen tree. Will sat on the stump and waved for me to come over to him.
"Um, can I talk to you about something kind of depressing?"
I frowned but nodded.
"This is linked to the whole... thing." He motioned to his arm.
I shuffled closer to him.
"Um, so I have, well I have high functioning depression..." He trailed off, but I had a feeling that it wasn't just that.
"And I have this,um, condition where I, um, don't feel worthy to the point of feeling like a fraud. It's called imposter syndrome."
I grabbed Will's hand.
He smiled weakly at me. "So yeah."
I climbed carefully into his lap and hugged him tightly. He buried his head into my shoulder, and I ran my fingers through his hair. We sat there until the sun began to go down and it got cold. We stood and began to walk back to camp in a comfortable silence.
There was a snap behind us and we turned...
