Hey guys! As promised here is a chap. Here we go!
Hiccup got home and immediately took a shower. He was way too tired to think about anything, so he planned about taking a nap.
Football had been... okay. They had told the team that the first game would be 3 weeks from today. Hiccup didn't know if he would even play. Considering he's not fast, not strong, and too skinny.
They made him play as a receiver. So sprinting to go catch a ball killed him quickly, but luckily he didn't throw this time. He did manage to actually catch some balls though. Which was satisfactory for him.
He met some other guys also during the practice. One he learned that tuffnut had signed up for the football team and he also met Eret who was friendly to him. They did exchange numbers.
Stoick brought him cleats because he wanted him to do well. Hiccup was glad his dad was actually interested in what he was doing, and it didn't seem to be so bad as he thought. They still barely had any conversation, but it was a start.
Hiccup got out of the shower and put some comfortable clothes on. He didn't have any work to do because it was the first week so he practically had nothing to do. He laid on his bed and soon drifted off.
Astrid had just finished swim practice and she did actually get a sight of hiccup practicing at the practice field. Since she learned hiccup's practice ended 30 minutes after hers. She could always see him as she drove back to her house in heathers moms car.
"Hey, what are you looking at?" Heather said all knowing.
"My friend." Astrid said almost mockingly.
"Perhaps something maybe more than a friend?"
"Relax heather I barely even know him. It's nothing." Astrid said looking away from the field.
Heather actually wanted to find out how Astrid was with her romance skills. She was eager to see Astrid with somebody. Hiccup didn't seem to bad.
"Well do you know when his first game is?"
"His what?" Astrid said confused.
"His game, he's on the football team, they're going to have games."
"Oh, ohhh uhh no I don't. But I'll ask him probably."
"Good"
"Shut up."
Astrid said her goodbye to heather and walked inside. Her dad wasn't home super early so she guessed it was a good sign. Her mom was home but she was napping and she didn't want to wake her. She was already tired from her practice so she decided to send hiccup a quick "Hey" before she went to take a shower.
Astrid thought about the first week and how everything was going. It actually wasn't going bad. She did make some new friends and kept some old ones. She had managed to have as little contact with Snotlout as possible so she guessed that was a win. She even managed to get a boys number! Or give a boy her number...
She hoped hiccup wouldn't turn out to be some nasty selfish guy. She was really looking forward to having hiccup as a friend.
When she got out of the shower she put clean clothes on and immediately picked up her phone. Still no text.
Damn hiccup what are you doing.
Hiccup didn't respond. Seriously! His practice is even over! She decided to not get too pushy, after all, it's the first week it's not like they are the best of friends anyway. Astrid sighed and set her phone down. She had nothing to do so she made the decision to watch a movie.
Astrid was constantly checking her phone for texts messages from hiccup. She did get occasional ones from heather. But damn hiccup wake up.
It was kind of annoying. She was more focused on something that wasn't coming more than she was on the movie that she chose to watch. She decided to stop and just enjoy the rest of the movie surelyhe'll reply!
Hiccup woke up from his long nap and looked at the time. Are you kidding? How is it 8:30 PM!
He did however notice a text from Astrid-
2 hours ago. Oh no
He quickly opened his phone and texted a quick "Um hi.."
Hiccup knew that was probably a horrid reply to say 2 hours later, and regretted he didn't explain. But he figured he'd do it after she replied.
He went down stairs to find that his dad had went back to work to finish his work. He warmed up some leftover pizza from the night before. He heard a quick buzz and he dug into his pocket to answer it. He looked at it already anticipating a passive aggressive answer.
"Seriously?"
Hiccup almost laughed because he knew how dumb it was to just say "hi" after two hours of not responding. But he did plan to tell her.
"Yeahum sorry about that, I kind of took like a 2 hour nap because I was really tired..."
Hiccup hoped that would work, I mean it's not like they were the best of friends that had to reply right away or anything. And besides she probably had way more things to do than he did.
"It's fine it's just I kinda wanted somebody to talk to more than just a certain black haired girlhaha.."
Or so he thought. Maybe Astrid wasn't talking to a lot of other people. That's not a bad thing right?
"Come on you probably have everybody begging to talk to you! You're Astrid! And besides you have swim."
"Swim is just a hobby, besides I don't know any of the upper classes and there aren't a lot of freshmen who joined the team."
"Oh well I guess that's the same for me. Except I know a few people on the team."
"Do you know when your first game is?"
Wow, she planned on coming to his game? Or did she?
"Yeah they told us it was 3 weeks from today. Whydo you ask?"
He didn't know if it was a good thing that she was coming. What if he completely embarrassed himself? What if he didn't even play? What if he got hurt over something stupid? It all sucked.
"Well I don't know maybe I was thinking of going, you know since there isn't a lot of work todo."
30 minutes before this...
Astrid was drifting away as the movie was about to finish when she felt a buzz in her hand. Please let it be-
"Um hi.."
Seriously? You're going to not reply in two hours and then just say hi? Please don't tell me this is how it's going to be. Please have an explanation.
Well turns out he did have an explanation. They had a minor conversation about their teams and she ended up asking him when his first game was.
She was happy at the thought of it. But she was also happy that she got to spend more time with hiccup. Who was just a friend. Obviously.
They talked some more throughout the night about pointless things. They learned about their parents more and more about each other. It wasn't bad because they were just friends. She did once ask him about his idea about relationships. She hoped she didn't give him ideas because at this point she wasn't looking for a relationship.
"I'm just waiting for the right person." He said.
Well at least he didn't say anything dumb. She thought. She responded with a "Yeah I guess I am too" and they went to a different topic.
"What are you doing over the weekend?" Astrid asked.
