Chapter 10: The Aftermath

Soon after Rose's innocent revelation, everybody started going home. It was decided Ron and Hermione would go back to Potter Manor after leaving the children at the Burrow as they had a lot to talk about.

"Sorry it took us a while to get here. I had to reassure Rosie that she wasn't in any trouble; she is very shaken up." Hermione explained as she sat down on the couch in the family room opposite Harry and Ginny.

"It's fine. Where is Ron? I thought he was coming with you?"

"Yeah, he is; he'll be here in a minute." Right on cue, Ron came through the fireplace and took the seat next to Hermione.

"Harry, why didn't you tell us about Snape?"

"Because I honestly don't think it's that much of a big deal. I mean, why is it so strange that he would have a personal life outside Hogwarts?"

"Harry, it's Snape; who would want to be with him anyway?"

"He was a misunderstood man Ron; we have already talked about this. Snape being a spy for us was very valuable, and he saved our lives multiple times. Yeah, he took his anger of my father out on me, but that's nothing to do with you."

"I agree with Harry there, Ron. I know he caused a lot of hurt to our family, and we didn't know that he was a spy until after the war, but it's not worth punishing his kids for"

"Yeah, Gin, we need to make sure that they aren't ridiculed like Snape was, and maybe they won't take the same path he did."

"Did you see who picked them up from King Cross?"

"Malfoy." Ron spat.

"Draco," Hermione corrected automatically.

"Maybe we should talk to him," Harry suggested tentatively.

"About what? He has done enough damage as it is, hasn't he?"

"Erm, well, maybe we should just see with that, but how can Snape have children when he is dead? That's impossible." Ginny said, bringing the conversation back to the topic at hand.

"Unless he isn't their father, they may consequently just have the same name," Hermione suggested.

"That is a possibility. I think we should just keep an eye on them then. There isn't much we can do even if we do talk to Draco." Harry said thoughtfully, "What's' bothering me more is this Liam Riddle. I thought we got over all that, and Rose is friends with him, which really isn't good.'

"I think we should take her and Hugo out of the school or expel Riddle. We need to stop this now before it continues." Ron says with finality, sipping his drink.

"Ron, you really need to look at the bigger picture, they are just children, and he may be nothing like his father. We need to stop judging people on what their parents did." Hermione replied, looking thoughtful; "Do we even know who brought him up?"

"I have no idea, but I am worried about Rosie befriending him, Hermione, he could turn out to be dangerous."

"So could the Snapes, but you don't seem to be worried about them, do you?"

"Ron, that's different, and you know it is."

"How, it's not different at all."

"Yes, it is. Why won't you listen? Tom Riddle was a hypocrite who was all for pureblood mania when he was a half-blood. He killed thousands of people, Ron, ripped lives apart, and made everyone live in fear for years, years! However, Snape saved our lives multiple times and worked as a spy to keep us safe, and if he didn't, none of us, especially Harry, would be alive right now. He had a hard life growing up, and Harry has already said he took his bitterness about Harry's father out on him, but do you not think it was justified? I'm sorry, Harry, but this needs to be said," she paused for a second, waiting for Harry to nod his head in understanding before she continued. "He spent years being tormented by James and watched the love of his life fall in love with his enemy. He asked Dumbledore to look after the Potters and protect them, including Harry and James, who hated just to protect Lily. Then Harry comes to Hogwarts, looking exactly like James with Lily's eyes, a constant reminder that Lily chose James over him. He risked his life spying and gaining information so Harry could kill Voldermort. He was courageous, and if you can't see that, then you need your brain checking. I personally would be proud of Rosie or Hugo turned out anything like him, apart from him going into the dark arts. And that could have been avoided if he wasn't treated like a Slytherin outcast. So yes, the Snape situation is very different from the Riddle situation." To emphasise her point further, she looked at him as if she was daring him to question her further.

Watching her brother about to open his mouth again, Ginny cut in, saying, "Ron, if you have any form of a brain, I'd take my advice and quit while you're ahead. We need to stop this prejudice because that's how the war started in the first place and think about this practically. This is why I kept quiet about Liam in the first place, he is one of the students living on-site, so I can keep an eye on him. He is only nine years old. If he had any chance of turning out like his father, that could be stopped. Hermione, make sure you warn Rosie about him because she needs to be aware, and she's a clever girl. She can make her own decisions, but I'll keep an eye on her too. As for the Snape Twins, I don't really see an issue," sensing her brother start to interrupt her, she put her hand up to silence him and continued. "It's important neither of them are outcasted, and they are treated civilly and with respect. I don't see any reason why they should be treated with the same precautions as Liam."

"I completely agree with you, Ginny, now I am going to collect Rosie and Hugo. I need to talk to her."

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

"Rosie, can I come in please?" As soon as they got home after the burrow incident, Rose went straight to her room, it was now the afternoon the day after, and she still hasn't come out. Hermione supplied her with food when she needed it, but this was the first time she came 'to talk.'

"Yeah," Rose said in a small voice, and Hermione came and sat on the bed next to her.

"Rosie, you need to know that you are not in trouble, ok? Liam's Dad wasn't a very nice man, and he hurt many people, including your mummy and daddy and the rest of the family. He was very dangerous, and that's why I need you to be careful around Liam. You are smart enough to make your own choice, but I want you to tell Auntie Ginny or myself if you see or hear anything that you find strange, ok? I need you to know that you can tell me anything, even if someone tells you to keep it a secret if you know it's wrong or it worries you, I want you to know that you can trust me." She found Rose started becoming distant when she started school and was worried Liam was the reason.

"Ok, mummy, I will do, but I don't know what to do now; I don't know whether to stay friends with him or not," She said, looking up at Hermione for the first time since she came into the room.

"It's up to you, Rosie; I don't want this to break up your friendship; as I said, just be careful."

Rose had her 10th birthday on the 30th, which passed quietly with a small family gathering at her house.

"Right, Lily, first off, you are holding it upside down and back to front. Try it this way; you will find it a lot easier," It was Tuesday before they went back to school on Monday. Lily was having her first guitar lesson, and it was turning out to be a lot harder than she first thought. Laura handed her a piece of plastic that was rounded on one end, and both sides met to make a point. "This is called a plectrum (usually abbreviated to a plec) or a pick.

As you can see, the guitar has 6 strings, and if you move the plec over each string, you will hear they all make a different sound." She demonstrated on her own guitar and motioned Lily to copy her, which she did. "The string at the top, which is the thickest string, is called the low E string (you can remember it because it makes the lowest sound), the one below that is the A string, then it goes the D string. Next is the G string, the B string, and finally, the thinnest string is the high E string, making a high pitch tone. Are you with me so far?" Lily nodded, playing the strings with her plec.

"What are these for?" She asked, pointing at the silver stripes in the wood.

"They are called frets, put your finger in the middle of one and press as hard as you can with your left hand, like this and strum the same string that you are pressing with your right hand; hold your plec between your finger and thumb, and hold it quite lightly."

Lily did as she was told, but it just buzzed. "It's not doing it."

"It'll take a couple of go's before you get it; it isn't easy." Half an hour later, Lily was getting bored, she got nowhere and even though Laura told her it was completely normal and no one got it the first time.

"Practice what I showed you every day for 10 minutes, and you will improve, I promise you. I'll come back on Sunday."

While Laura was saying goodbye to Harry and Ginny, Lily went over to James, who was playing a few notes on his base. "Why can you do it, but I couldn't even get a noise out of mine?"

"Lils, I had my lesson on Saturday, and I have been practicing so I can play the note now." He demonstrated what note he had been playing continually for 2 days. Laura came over on Saturday to give James a lesson on the base, and on Sunday, she showed Lizzy a few things on the keyboard. Monday was Al's lesson on the drums, and finally, today, Lily got her go. "Also, I am stronger than you, so I can press down on the strings more."

"At least you knew which way to hold it, James."

He smirked at that, muttering "good point" before continuing to practice. However, that didn't last long as Albus ran into the room clutching an opened letter in one hand.

"James, a letter came for you." Without any warning, he jumped up, nearly hitting Lily in the face with his base, and snatched the letter, running out the room complaining about lack of privacy.

"What an earth was that about?" Ginny said, coming into the room after being nearly run over by James.

"It was a letter from his girlfriend asking him to go out with her or something," Al replied, sitting on the couch. "I reckon he is over aggregating."

"Albus, you mustn't open letters that aren't directly written to you, everyone needs their own privacy, and you will too when you're a bit older."

"I know, but still." He grumbled; he thought his mother might take his side, but clearly, that didn't happen.

"Don't do it, Al, ok? Now go and apologize to your brother but knock first and only go in when he says you can." Ginny reprimanded.

"Yes, mum." He muttered angrily but with defeat.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

James,

Please will you come to mine tomorrow night (Wednesday) for tea? I think it's time for my parents to meet you, don't you think?

Because if we're gonna get married one day, they need to know you, right?

Love you and please don't bail on me,

Your girlfriend Indigo

He couldn't believe she wrote that and even more Al read it, it's so embarrassing. She seemed very clingy and was already talking about marriage even though they were only 11. He seriously wanted to break up with her, but he just felt so bad. He groaned and put his head in his hands. What was he going to do?

He got woken from his musing by a knock on his bedroom door.

"What?" He grumbled towards the general direction of the door, which slowly opened to reveal his younger brother.

"I came to say sorry for opening the letter and invading your space." He said reluctantly, looking at his hands."

"Mum forced you, I'm guessing? Just don't open my letters again Al, you won't want me to do it to you, would you?"

"No, I'm sorry, James," and he genuinely did look it.

"It's fine, Al, just wait until I get my revenge, and it'll be a lot worse than reading a letter from your girlfriend."

Albus gulped, backing slowly out of the room; when James says he'll get revenge, he meant it.

Just as Albus left, Lizzy walked in, "What have you threatened him with this time, Jamie?"

"I just said that there will be revenge in due course."

"After he sucked up his last bit of dignity, do you have to be so mean, Jamie?"

"He deserves it. He read my private letter."

"Who from? Indigo? Do you even like her?" She asked, sitting next to him on his bed.

"Honestly, Liz? Not really, no, but it'd be mean to dump her, plus she'd make such a fuss about it."

"Is it not worse to lead her on, though?"

"Well yeah, but what do you want me to do, Liz? I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place."

"What does this letter say?" He handed it to her silently.

"Right, write back to her and tell her that you can't make it, but you need to meet up with her."

"What should I say I need to talk to her for?"

"Just ask if she can meet you at that Cafe in Godric's Hollow, and tell her then."

"Ok, I'll do that now."

Indigo,

I'm sorry I can't go tomorrow because I'm busy.

I know I shouldn't do this over a letter, but I think it's best if we break up. I just don't think it's working out.

I hope we can still be friends,

James.

"I sent the letter, Liz, but I just broke up with her in it because it's so much easier than having to meet her and being guilt-tripped into staying with her.

"YOU DID, WHAT?" Lizzy growled.

"What's the problem? It'll be easier this way."

"Jamie, there was a reason I told you to meet up with her first, the relationship meant nothing to you, but she actually liked you. It's cruel to not even say it to her face, Jamie."

"Oh, Liz, you're making a big deal out of it. She'll be fine. It wasn't even a proper relationship anyway."

"We'll see Jamie, but you are in for a shock, my brother."

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

"Jamie, you seriously need to talk to her. I am sick of acting like a messenger between you two."

"Don't then, I don't care. If she can't accept that it is her problem, not mine."

"You can't treat girls like that Jamie, we are not something that you can just drop when you feel like it."

"I haven't, but I don't like her, and I am not going to be with someone I don't like. Plus, we're 11. It's not like we were ever going to last forever. She just needs to get over it."

"You still need to talk to her. Ignoring her won't make the problem go away."

"Fine, I'll talk to her later, but right now, I need to finish writing this letter." It was the end of January, and Indigo still hadn't got over James breaking up with her. This cause Lizzy a lot of problems because she was continuously mithered by her to give messages to James, but he didn't care, which winded Lizzy up further.

"Who are you even writing to Jamie?"

"Let me finish it, and I'll show you one sec, but promise you won't get mad or tell anyone?" He asked while signing the bottom of the parchment, waiting for her to say, 'promise,' before handing it to her,

Dear Dad,

I wondered if you'd be able to show me their memories, sooner rather than later, please. We are studying Hogwarts's battles soon, and I want to know more about our family that died in these wars.

Thank you,

Love, James

"Why don't you just ask him? We live with the man." Lizzy questioned.

"I don't want to say it out loud."

"Why?"

"It's complicated. I guess I just am afraid of asking Dad outright."
