Jax pulled up to the club house. Tara was holding Grace and Lyla was holding Will while they were watching the kids play. Tara looked at Jax's face and could see the weight of the world in his eyes. He was sad.
"Um Lyla, would you mind watching the boys for a second?" Tara asked.
"Of course" she answered.
Tara and Grace walked over to Jax.
"Hey baby" she said
"Hey" Jax said giving Tara a kiss. Grace squealed at her dad. "Oh hello to you too my princess." He said taking Grace into his arms and giving her a kiss." She laughed grabbing his beard. Tara reached up and laid her hand in his cheek.
"We got Lexi. She actually went into labor and Happy drove her to St. Thomas" Jax said
"Is she ok? Im mean how did she look?" Tara asked concerned.
"Ruff, they had her chained to the bed." He said
"Oh my god."
"She'll be ok and the babies too, im sure if you call the hospital they would give you an update." Jax suggested.
"Ya, ill do that. But first, what about...?"
"Bailey and Gemma?" Jax said
Tara nodded.
"Bailey was shot first. Shes dead. Gemma was shot. Shes dead too." Jax said.
Tara kissed her husband. Even after everything Gemma had done she was still his mother. She knew he was heart broken.
"I didnt shoot her. Tig did" he said.
"Baby Im sorry." Tara said.
"Ya me too. Im going to go over and see the boys and push this pretty girl on the swings. You can go call the hospital" He said
Tara walked over to Lyla.
"They got Lexi. She went into labor im going to call Margaret." Tara told her.
"Oh thank god! I hope the babies are ok" Lyla said
Tara called Margaret who explained that Lexi just got there. She seemed to be dehydrated and seemed like her sugar was low. He heart rate was high which was expected considering what she had just been through. Tara thanked her and decided they should go to the hospital. They could drop the kids off at the daycare. Lyla agreed. Opie and Jax decided to go as well as the other members to show Happy their support.
They got to the hospital and dropped the kids off at the day care and headed up to the OB department. Tara and Lyla got to go into the back to see Lexi. They walked in and Lexi smiled instantly.
"Hey guys!" She said.
Tara and Lyla ran over and both hugged her. Happy smiled. "Im guessing all the guys are here too?" He asked
"Yes the whole SAMCRO crew" Tara said.
"Im going to go update them" he said. Before leaving he walked over and gave Lexi a kiss. "I will be right back." He said looking into her eyes.
Lexi smiled back. "Ill be right here. I promise."
When Happy left Tara and Lyla sat on the bed and held her hands.
"Oh my god you guys im so happy to be back. How are the kids?" Lexi asked
"The kids are fine. How are you?" Lyla asked
"Im ok. It was...horrifying to say the least. I had to..." Lexi began to tear up.
"Its ok Lex." Tara said
Then Lexi started to cry. "You don't understand James was crazy and delusional and just wouldn't listen. He hit me and I knew if i wanted my babies to be safe I had to play his game. I had to pretend to love him and I had to...kiss him" she explained through tears.
"Lexi look at us. You did what you had to do. No one would blame you. Not even Happy." Tara said
"He would be proud that you did what needed to be done to protect yourself and his kids." Lyla added
Lexi nodded. "Oh it was awful. But I knew I just needed to wait. There was something in me that was telling me Happy would find me. Oh please tell the guys thank you."
Tara and Lyla chuckled. "We will" Tara said.
Tara then got up and started looking over her charts. She stared for a second at one of the monitors and began reading the paper stats printing at the bottom.
"Lexi are you feeling any pressure or pain in your lower abdomin?" Tara asked
"No, not anymore. I came in and they hooked me up to an IV and got some fluids and some vitamins in me and I started to feel better why?"
Tara handed her the printing from her monitors and she looked them over.
Lyla not being a nurse or doctor was confused. "Can someone fill me in here?"
"The heart rate" Lexi and Tara said at the same time.
"One of the babies heart rates and slowly starting to go up and down showing some erratic activity. Its barley noticable unless you are looking for it." Tara explained. "Im going to show these to her Dr. And order and ultrasound. It might not be anything but we should be sure." Tara took the prints and left the room.
Lyla leaned over and hugged Lexi. "Im going to grab Happy ok? Everything is going to be fine." She said
Lyla walked into the waiting room and Happy was grabbing a pop and talking to the guys.
"Happy, Tara noticed something on one of the monitors and she going to order an ultrasound to check one of the babies hearts" she said softly.
Before she could say anything else Happy was gone heading back to Lexi.
He got back and seen Tara standing with the Dr. Showing him the prints. "Tara what's wrong?" Happy asked
"Oh Hap it might be nothing. Its just there is a very small dip in one of the babies heart rates. Its common when the mother experiences a lot of stress. I think we should just do an ultrasound just as a precaution." Tara said
Lexi's Dr. Nodded. "Yes Dr. Teller I agree. Ill get it ordered stat."
Happy went back to Lexi who was trying her best not to cry but was failing. Only a few moments went by before a ultrasound technician came in with a monitor. Tara stood next to her to watch as well.
First baby to come into view was Demetri. Lexi smiled. "There's our son" she said.
They were able to look at his heart. "He seems to be good" Tara said smiling.
Then after being stubborn Delilah decided to cooperate and move to a position to check her heart. Tara moved her face closer to the screen causing Lexi to do so as well. There it was.
"A small erratic rithym." Tara said. "Im going to get your Dr."
The tech turned on the light and get out of the way for the Dr.
"I think we will need to do an emergency C-section." The dr explained.
Lexi squeezed Happy's hand.
"Your daughter's heart appears to be stressed so to speak. Her best chance right now is to intervene and we need her out to do that. I must tell you that we may have to operate and repair a chamber of her heart that was effected the most." The Dr. Explained.
"I will do the surgery" Tara said
"Given Dr. Teller and your relationship I would not advise..." Her dr began.
"I want Tara to do it. Our relationship is an even more of a reason. This is her niece and I know without a doubt she is the most qualified to do this surgery." Lexi said. Her dr. Nodded. "I will be back in 10 minutes and we will do the C-section. Im sorry Mr. Lowman due to the situation and impending surgery you will not be able to join." The dr said before leaving. Happy sat nex to Lexi and held her. Just like the Dr. Said the nurses were there in 10 minutes ready to take her back. Happy kissed her.
As they left the room Happy grabbed Tara's arm. With unshed tears in his eyes he tried to speak but couldn't. Tara laid her hand on his. "I know Happy. She and your children will be fine. I promise." She said
He nodded and watch his family disappear around the corner. After a few seconds he got his composure and went to up date the guys.
He walked out to the waiting room and everyone stopped talking.
"Uh, Demitri is fine but...there is something wrong with Delilahs heart. They are doing an emergency C-section and then they... have to fix her heart. Tara's doing the surgery." Happy then lost it. His hands hit his face and he started to cry. No-one except Lexi had ever seen Happy so vulnerable. Jax and Opie got up first then the rest of the guys followed. They surrounded Happy in one large hug.
Happy was again able to compose himself. He excused himself and went to go outside for a minute alone.
After a few minutes Lyla became restless and stood up. Opie stood with her.
"What are you doing babe?" He asked her
"I cant sit here. Im going crazy. Im going to check on the kids and then im going to stop by and see Neeta." Lyla said
"I'll walk with you" Opie said taking her hand.
After seeing the kids were ok and Will was taking a nap they headed to Neetas room.
Neeta smiled wide seeing Lyla and Opie.
"Oh my, what a great surprise." Neeta said lifting her arms for a hug
"Hey Neeta, how are you feeling?" Opie asked
"Im doing great. Doc said I should be ok to go home in a couple of days. How is everyone?" She asked
Lyla sat at the edge of her bed and looked down. Opie looked down. Neetas smile faded.
"What? What happend?" She asked concerned
Lyla looked at her and explained everything that had happened to Lexi. Neeta covered her mouth with her hand in disbelief.
"Oh my god" she said But then she shook her head and reached forward grabbing Lylas hand.
"No, we have to stay positive. Tara is doing the surgery. She is the best and the most qualified pediatric surgeon. This is what she does best." She said.
Lyla and Opie nodded.
Back in the operating room. Tara held Lexi's hand while the Dr. Performed the C-section. She would take over once the babies were out.
"It will be ok Lexi" she said
Lexi nodded.
"Ok, your going to feel a little pressure." The Dr said. "And here is your son" he announced holding Demitri above the blue curtain so Lexi could see him. He then began to cry.
Lexi began to cry hearing her sons cry.
"Oh Lexi hes perfect" tara said also with tears in her eyes.
"Ok and here is your daughter" the dr said
There was silence.
"Why isnt she crying?" Lexi asked
"Dr. Teller!"
Tara took off. The incubator rushed over and before Lexi knew it Tara was rushing off with her daughter to an adjacent room.
"TARA!" Lexi yelled
A nurse came around to Lexi.
"She wasnt breathing. Dr. Teller is working to get her breathing" she explained. Lexi lost it but then took a breath hearing her son. "My son. Can I see my son?"
Her dr nodded towards the nurse. She wrapped Demitri up a blanket and brought him over so Lexi could see and kiss him.
The dr. Sewed Lexi back up and got her ready to move back to her room to recover from the surgery.
Happy was back in the waiting room sitting impatiently when thr Dr. Came out.
"Mr. Lowman." She said
Happy stood and walked over.
"Your wife is doing great she is back in her room and you can go and see her in just a moment." She said
"My kids?" He asked
"Your son was born first. He is doing great. The nurses are finishing getting him cleaned up and making sure his vitals are normal." Then the Dr. took a breath, folded her hands and continued. "Your daughter wasnt breathing and it appeared the repair to her heart was in deed necessary. Dr. Teller is performing the surgery as we speak" she explained
Happy nodded. Jax came up and put his hand on his shoulder. "You should go see Lex" he said
Happy nodded and left.
Opie and Lyla walked back into the waiting room just in time to see Happy and the Dr leave. Jax updated them.
Happy walked into the room. Lexi was laying there one hand covering her eyes. Happy took a breath before going in making sure he could stay strong for her.
He walked in and laid his hand on her arm.
"Happy!" She cried.
"Hey baby, you did so good, im so proud of you" he said leaning in to kiss her.
"Demitri is great. Hes so strong. Delilah is..." She tried to explain
"I know, the dr told me. She will be fine. Tara will make sure of it." He said with a smile.
Lexi nodded.
After just a few minutes a nurse knocked on the door and came in with a baby bed. "Someone wanted to officially meet his mom and dad" she said
The nurse picked him up and slowly laid him in Lexi's arms.
Lexi smiled and kissed him.
Happy's heart skipped a beat. He couldn't hold back and a single tear dripped down his cheek. "Lexi, hes perfect." He said.
"Wanna hold him daddy?" Lexi asked
Happy became nervous but reached down and very carefully and slowly picked his son up and cradled him in his arms.
"I promise to always protect you. Nothing and no one will ever hurt you as long as im alive...my son" he said.
Lexi laid her head back and smiled. After a few minutes Happy placed their son back in his mothers arms.
An hour went by and Tara walked into Lexi's room. She smiled.
"Delilah had a small tear in one of the walls in her heart. I went in and was able to repair it and restart her heart. Shes doing great and I believe she has a very good chance of a full recovery." She said happily.
Lexi closed her eyes and cried. This time tears of joy.
Happy walked over and wrapped his arms around Tara and hugged her so tight. Surprising Tara.
"Thank you for saving my daughter" he said
"Of course." She said. "Now let me see that handsome guy." She said walking over to see Demitri.
After a minute of gushing Tara decided to give them alone time and go update the rest of the club.
Happy laid on the bed next to Lexi. He was so exhausted but was afraid to close his eyes. He was afraid that when he opened them she would dissapear. It didnt take long though before he lost his battle and fell asleep.
Lexi heard a small snore, she looked next to her and her heart swelled. She could see the darkened bags under his eyes. She knew he probably hadnt slept since she was taken. She looked down at her son and whispered.
"Your daddy fell asleep. Thats ok, he deserves it."
After just a few more minutes Tara came back into the room. Seeing Happy fast asleep and Lexi looking utterly exhausted she decided to take advantage of her status at the hospital.
"Hey" Tara whisperer. "Why dont you let me take him to the nursery for an hour two so you can get some rest" she said
Lexi smiled. "Oh thats ok, ill be fine"
Tara knew Lexi was nervous for him to leave her side. She definalty understood that. Tara nodded and thought of another idea.
"Ok, well can I just hold him? Get some aunt Tara cuddles?" Tara asked
"Oh of course" Lexi said
Tara grabbed Demetri and went to set on the couch against the wall.
Lexi watched as Tara rocked her son and laid her head back. Without even realizing it her eyes closed.
Jax quietly crept into the room. First he saw Lexi and Happy asleep in the bed. He then found Tara on the couch.
He walked over and sat down. He was carful to speak quietly.
"Why am I not surprised to see the baby in your arms" he joked
Tara smiled. "Lexi wouldnt let him go to the nursery so she could rest."
"I dont blame her." Jax said. Jax watched Tara smile at Demetri. He noticed that twinkle in her eye.
"I see that" he said
Tara looked at him. "Um..see what?" She asked
"That look, that I want another baby look" he said
Tara shrugged. "We still have a baby, she isnt even walking yet. Im ok...for now" she said chuckling.
Jax chuckled as well. He figured he would give it a year and they would be having another one.
Jax decided he was going to take the kids to see Neeta then head home while Tara stayed at the hospital for a little while longer to help Lexi and Happy get some rest. The rest of the club followed suit and headed home.
After 2 hours Demetri started to stir. He was getting hungry. Lexi heard his squeek and shot up looking for him in a panic startling Happy in the process he jumped up.
"What?! What is it?" He said
Tara hurried and got their attention. "Right here! Hes right here!" She said getting up to take him over.
Lexi smiled. "Oh, im sorry Tara."
Tara smiled. "Its fine. Hes got a clean butt
Im going to give you some privacy so you can feed him and go check on Delilah." She said
Happy watched Lexi in amazement. Watching her breast feed made his heart swell. It was still surreal. He was a dad now and about to be a husband. His life has changed so much and he wouldnt change it for the world. Lexi, Demetri, and Delilah were his world and he would stop at nothing to protect them. Lexi looked over and seen him staring off deep in thought.
" Penny for your thoughts?" She asked smiling
He chuckled. "I just can't believe they are here now. They are so...perfect" he said. But then he looked down.
Lexi knew he was thinking about Delilah.
"You should go see her Hap." Lexi said
Happy took a breath and looked at her. "Ya I know." He said.
A few more minutes went by and Tara returned. "Delilah is definalty a strong little girl. Shes doing great and her heart scans look good." She said with a smile.
"Can we go see her?" Lexi asked
"The Dr. Wants you in bed for a full 24 hours due to your surgery. But, I can take Happy" she said.
Happy went over to Lexi. "I feel bad I get to sew her without you." He said
"Happy, yes we made her together and she will always be our daughter, but its ok I promise. Go meet your baby girl. Shes beautiful. Looks just like her daddy" Lexi said.
Happy nodded. "Ok" he bent down and gage Lexi a kiss turned and followed Tara out of the room to meet his princess.
They went to the next floor up and Happys heart started to race as soon as the elevators doors opened. Before getting to the door to his daughters room Tara turned to him.
"Ok, i just want to let you know that there are a few tubes and wires that are monitoring her vitals and lightly helping breath. Shes breathing on her own but its mainly just precautionary. Its looks worse than it is ok?" She explained
Happy nodded. "Ok"
Tara grinned and opened the door.
There in the center of a dark room was a incubator lit up by a light. Happy walked in slowly and looked through the glass seeing his daughter for the first time. She had a pink hat and seemed so content laying there sleeping. She was so tiny. A lot smaller than her brother. Happy stood there unable to blink. He watched her breath. Seeing her chest rise and fall. He placed a hand on the top of the incubator and one single tear fell. Tara stepped back to leave and give Happy a minute.
"Tara wait, uh can she uh hear me?" He asked
"Yes, she can hear you. She will even recognize your voice." Tara said
Happy nodded and Tara stepped out.
Happy watched her a breath a few more minutes and decided to speak.
"Hey baby girl. Daddy's here. I know you dont understand me yet but I hope you know Daddy will NEVER let anyone hurt you. I will always be there for you. You and you brother are my heart and soul. Everything I am is yours"
Time seemed lost and before he knew it Tara came back with another nurse.
"Sorry Mr. Lowman but its time for some meds and this sweet girl needs to eat." She said with a smile. Would you like to help?" She asked.
Happy's eyes went wide. Tara chuckled seeing him panic.
"Its ok Happy. All you will do is talk to her while we tend to her. She doesn't like to be woken up"
He nodded. "Just like her dad" he said.
Sure enough as soon as they unbundled her she let out the tiniest of cries. Happys heart swelled hearing her cry for the first time. He went up to her, bent down so he was close to her ears.
"Shhh its ok baby girl daddy's here." He said. She let out and little whimper but stopped crying. Happy smiled from ear to ear.
"Tara, you were right. She knows me!" He said excitedly
Tara and the nurse looked at each other and smiled.
He kept going. "Ya baby girl its your daddy. Your so beautiful. I love you so much. When you get out of here im going to buy you anything you need or want. Im going to play with you and rock you to sleep"
Tara couldnt help but chuckle seeing this side to Happy she never knew existed.
After a little while longer Happy decided to he was content after watching his baby girl breath for a while and went back to tell Lexi all about it. He was such a proud daddy.
Tara finally went home around 10 o clock that night after checking on Lexi and the babies one last time and of course stopping by Neetas room. She walked quietly into the house and it was hard not to start laughing. There on the floor with back against the couch and head tilted back was Jax fast asleep. Grace was asleep curled up on his chest. Thomas laying across his legs fast asleep and Abel laying on the floor his hand in Jax's also fast asleep. As tired as she was she figured she would get the kids in their beds and get Jax into their bed. She was able to get Thomas first, then Abel. When she tried to pick Grace up Jaxs head jolted up startled. Once he saw Taras face he smiled.
"Oh hey babe?" He said sleepily.
"Hey, so I see you tired the kids out huh?" She asked
"Oh ya. Must have fallen asleep during Monsters Inc." He said
"Ah ok well I got the boys to bed lets put the princess down and go to bed baby" she said
"Yes mam" he said through a yawn
Once they were in the bed room Tara stripped down and got on one of Jax's shirts. She wasted no time to curl up in Jax's arms.
"Hows the babies?" He asked
"Doing great. Even Delilah. It takes me back to when Abel was born." She told Jax.
"Ya. I thought of that too, hows Happy?" He asked
Tara smiled. "He's a proud daddy. He and Lexi are going to be good parents." She said right before she fell asleep.
