Chapter 11: Battle of the Toons Part 2
I whispered to the Warners.
"I'm going to try to climb up Cassie's back, if anything goes wrong and Skippy and Francesca fall, Wakko, you catch Francesca, and Dot, you catch Skippy." Yakko sighed.
"I would tell you not to, but you have a stubborn streak."
"You're darn right I do," I grinned, handing him Pinky.
I made it past the pants and lower shirt ok, but when I started climbing up the ponytail, I slipped. My ankle got caught in a knot of hair, so I was suspended upside down. Cassie felt the tug, reached back to the ponytail, and felt me. She unhooked me. When she saw me, she laughed. I glared at her.
"My, you're a feisty little one!" she giggled.
"Wanna play ball, Cassie?" I smiled, taking an anvil and mallet out of my hammerspace. I hit the anvil toward her, using the mallet. She shrieked and dropped Skippy and Francesca.
Unfortunately, I had forgotten about myself. Down, down, down I fell… into Yakko's arms. I blushed. "Pretty fancy mallet work there," he grinned.
A couple yards away, Francesca had landed on top of Wakko. "Oof!" she quickly scrambled off of him and kissed his head in thanks. Wakko looked like he might faint.
Francesca jumped backwards as we heard something echoing through the arena. She grabbed her phone out of her pocket and screamed "WHAT?!"
We all looked over to see that the hospital was calling her. She answered it, looking nervous. It was on speakerphone, and somebody said "Francesca, we are home, you need to visit us."
She realized that was her Dad, but we were fighting in an arena, so Cassie smashed the leave call button and threw the phone across the arena, luckily, Francesca had another screen protector (Wakko broke her old one on accident).
But Bubba, he threw himself onto Cassie, biting her and barking in her ear. Cassie's face contorted with rage, but before she could throw him off and seriously injure him, the Goodfeathers started flying around her head in dizzying circles, scratching at her face and taunting her. That gave everyone else the opportunity to attack. Suddenly, she let out some sort of shock wave, throwing everyone, including the Goodfeathers, back.
"NOOO!" I cried as they flew through the air. They hit the opposite wall, and I heard a sickening crunch. Time seemed to slow. I ran over to them, tears streaming from my eyes. I couldn't bear another toon injury.
They all seemed to be recovering, slowly getting to their feet. Squit made little groaning noises as he attempted to stand up, then let out a small cry of pain that pierced my heart like an arrow. His wing was at an awkward angle, obviously broken. Bobby and Pesto were anxiously gathered around him. When they saw me, they flew up to land on my shoulders.
I gently picked up Squit. "Ok, I think I know how to fix this, but it's going to hurt, ok?" "Fine," groaned Squit, shuddering slightly. I gently took the injured wing, then quickly jammed it back into the shoulder. He let out a little scream, but I gently stroked his head until he calmed down. I took a strip of fabric from my hammerspace and tied it into a makeshift sling. "There, you should be all set." he flashed me a small grateful smile, and flew off with Bobby supporting one side and Pesto the other. I smiled as they sped toward Cassie, once again. I decided to join them. However, a few minutes later, disaster struck once again.
Yakko had just rebounded an ice ball, courtesy of Cassie. "Not bad, eh?" he said smugly, grinning at us. "Beat that!"
"YAKKO, LOOK OUT!" I yelled. Cassie had regained her senses. and was now poised to shoot something else, which turned out to be a fireball. Without stopping to think, I lunged at Yakko and knocked him out of the way. I felt the heat of the fireball as it missed me by a millimeter. Poor Yakko, however, wasn't so lucky. I will never forget that shriek of pain as we hit the stone floor on the other side. "Yakko!" I cried. My wrist was hurting a little, but I would worry about that later. Luckily, the rage of the toons from Cassie almost turning Yakko and I into campfire hot dogs was unimaginable, buying us some time.
Yakko was clutching one hand with the other, his eyes swimming with tears of pain. "Let me see it," I said in a soothing voice. When I did see it, I had to stifle a gasp. The middle finger of his glove was completely burned away, with the fingers on either side singed. The fur on his middle finger was also singed, with a small patch completely burned away, looking bright red and a little charred. I knew right away it had to be a 3rd degree burn, the worst kind.
I quickly pulled a sink out of my hammerspace and rinsed the burn with cold water for a while, then loosely covered it with a bandage. Then I gave him a quick hug and helped him stand up.
There was a huge BANG and a big dog came running in and Francesca screamed "IVY!" Ivy charged at Cassie, Ivy pounced onto Cassie's leg and kept climbing until she reached her stomach. Ivy attacked her until Cassie let out a piercing scream. Cassie let go of Ivy, pushing her off, Ivy was okay but Francesca was not, Cassie charged at Francesca, knocking her onto her back. There was a cracking noise, and Francesca let out a horrible wail of pain before fainting. Cassie let out a cackle, drawing ever closer to Francesca.
"NO!" yelled a voice. Wakko Warner, little runty 3-foot Wakko, stepped bravely in front of Francesca. "You'll have to get through me first," he snarled in his raspy Liverpudlian accent, rolling up his sleeves.
Cassie looked shocked and even a little nervous for a fraction of a second before bursting out laughing. "You?! Hahaha! Outta my way shrimp, unless you want to go the same way as your girlfriend." she then proceeded to transform her fingers into blades, then swiped at Wakko, who jumped back. He almost missed the blades, but the edge of one slashed his face, leaving flecks of blood on his snow white fur. Yakko buried his face in my arm. I stroked his head. Wakko yelped in pain, then let out a growl from deep down inside of him. "So what if she is my girlfriend, Ella? I already told you. I'm. Not. MOVING!"
Ella looked shocked for a moment, when suddenly the most terrifying noise I have ever heard echoed around the arena. It was Bubba growling and snarling ferociously, along with Ivy. They both leapt at Cassie, who let out a shriek of fear and covered her face. Wakko let them attack for a while, then called, "Bubba! Ivy! Here!" they leapt off, then Wakko pulled out a mallet bigger than Cassie and smashed her into the ground, stunning her for around 5 minutes. He then ran to Francesca, the rest of us right behind him.
With all of that, Francesca was still unconscious, Bubba was trying to wake her up, licking her face, but it didn't work. "Ok…" I murmured, trying to keep my cool. "I have some first aid training, so I think I know how to handle this."
"Willya HURRY UP?!" yelled Slappy. I kept my composure.
"If Cassie wakes up before we're done, you're welcome to chuck a bomb, Slappy," I said with maddening calmness.
"Ah, fine!' she snapped.
"Ok, so I think we have to elevate her head, but first we should move her out of the battlezone. Wakko, you grab her feet." between the two of us, we managed to move her to a quiet corner and prop her head up. "Now what, Leela?" asked Katie.
"Well, it looks like her foot is broken, so we should put her foot in a sturdy boot." I produced one from my hammerspace. "And when I'm done with her, I'll get started on that nasty cut of yours, Wakko. Brain, any suggestions?" He shook his head.
"You're doing a fine job, Leela."
Yakko whispered something into Wakko's ear and then they went up to Francesca and yelled "HELLOOOOOOOOOOO NURSE''
No luck, Cassie said "Oh, guys, she's gonna be out for a while hahahaha" Bubba was snarling and growling at Cassie, who looked kinda scared.
"Toons," I yelled. "ATTACK!" with a great roar, they ran towards Cassie, who quickly retreated. I caught Wakko running towards her with his biggest mallet, and quickly grabbed the back of his turtleneck, resulting in his making an "ulp" sound.
"Wakko! Hang on a sec, buddy." He pouted at me. "Why?" he whined. "I just need to clean that cut of yours, and then you can go fight." I suppressed a smile. "Or you can stay here and watch Francesca, if you want."
Wakko's eyes turned to hearts. "FABOO!" he cried, tossing the mallet behind him. It hit Cassie on the head with a satisfying CLONK!
I retrieved a bottle of peroxide, a cotton ball, and some bandages from my hammerspace. I dripped some peroxide onto the cotton ball, then gently wiped it across the cut. Wakko winced and let out a soft whimper. I blew softly on the gash, then put a bandage on it. "How deep is it?" he asked me.
"It's definitely not a little scrape, but it's not like you're gonna need surgery or anything," I smiled. Then I patted his head and left him with Francesca while I rejoined the battle.
Then I realized something that made me freeze. "Yakko… Skippy… guys… Oh my gosh…" I breathed. I grabbed Yakko's arm. My nails must have been digging into him because he winced, so I loosened my grip.
"W-what is it?" asked Skippy nervously.
"Look at Cassie… she's shrinking!" She really was shrinking. She had originally been 20 feet high, but now she was 15 or maybe even 10 feet high. And with a jolt, I realized something else. She was beginning to get even more toon features. She now had Squit's beak, and Pesto's multicolored rings around her eyes. She also had Chicken Boo's cockscromb and gizzard (the red fleshy stuff on a chicken's face) and seemed to be growing feathers. "Cassie!" I cried. "We don't have to fight! Why can't we all be great together?"
"WE CAN'T!" she yelled. "AND WE NEVER CAN!"
Oops... guess I was wrong. Yakko wasn't ok.
I'd like to apologize about the OOC incident when Yakko saw Wakko getting cut. I like to think he's under a lot of stress and pain, and his sib getting injured was the cherry on top.
Cassie... what are you doing to yourself? o.0
