Harley was very pleased with herself. She had the brat tucked into the backseat of her car, in an expensive car seat Bruce's card had bought, and was headed to Bludhaven to drop it off at the closest hospital. Once this small part was over, she'd grab a nap and then get rid of Tessa once and for all. She hated how the girl seemed to worm her way into Joker's life. The fact she had a kid with him was ridiculous. The Joker was not a family man. Harley knew she was doing him a favor by getting rid of Tessa and the baby.
She checked the time, it was really late, or really early depending on how you look at it. The damned delivery took longer than Harley had hoped. She had almost decided to just cut it out of her. But finally the baby had come out. It was so tiring. Harley had cut the cord and cleaned the bulk of the mess from it's skin. She had no ill will towards a baby. She diapered and dressed it and wrapped it up. It was a cute thing, too bad it had to go.
She was so glad she could show Tessa the baby before she left. She was almost to Bludhaven city limits when she decided to check her phone. She reached into the glove box and pulled it out holding the power button on. The screen lit up with a few missed messages. she scrolled through the messages and saw a few were from Bruce.
"Call me, its an emergency Tessa is missing."
She ignored the message. What did he expect her to do about it? It isn't her problem. She tossed the phone down and continued to drive. Within a few minutes her phone rang, She let out a growl of frustrations and grabbed the phone, of course it was Bruce. She thought about if she should answer the call. She decided not to and tossed the phone back into the passenger seat. She was almost there anyway.
As she drove, she made a mental checklist of all of the things she would be doing to Tessa. That is if she didn't bleed to death first. She chuckled to herself. She could see the city limits coming up for Bludhaven. She grabbed her phone and looked up directions to the nearest hospital. She was feeling exhaustion start to pull on her. She followed the phones directions and was very happy to see the hospital just down the street.
She pulled into the parking lot and checked her reflection. She looked tired, but she wasn't covered in blood. She got out and grabbed the car seat, She already had her story ready for the nurses. She was a Bludhaven resident who had opened her door to find a car seat and baby on her front porch. She even had a fake ID to show if they asked. She lugged the baby to the entrance to the emergency room.
She stepped inside and froze, her eyes on the back of a tall, well dressed man. He turned slightly, giving her a clear view of his very familiar profile. Harley turned to leave as inconspicuously as possible.
"Can I help you ma'am?"
Harley turned and looked at the nurse to her right.
"Oh, I just came to visit a friend, but left my diaper bag in the car." She hurried out of the door.
She rushed to her car, setting the baby in the back and getting inside. She sped out of the parking lot and back onto the street. What the fuck was Bruce doing in the one place she was headed. How had he guessed where she would be? How much did he know?
Her phone rang, she frowned at Bruce's name. Had he seen her? It left her no choice but to answer the call to find out.
"Hello?"
"Harley where are you?"
"On vacation, I told you I.." he cut her off
"Tessa called me. She told me the funniest thing."
Harley growled. How the hell had she gotten free? How had she gotten a hold of Bruce so quickly? "Oh yeah? What did she say?"
"Where is the baby?"
Harley frowned as she looked in the backseat at the car seat. "She asked you about a baby?"
"Harley, I know you took her, I know you have her baby. If you turn yourself in I will hire you the best lawyer money could buy."
"Bruce you are sweet but I don't have a baby."
She would continue to play dumb until she was either caught or free. She hung up the phone and had to think fast. She needed to dump this kid. She was so angry at herself. She knew she should have just killed them both.
Bruce should have known, he should have been able to tell that Harley was crazy. She just seemed so perfect. When Tessa had told him what happened, begged him to save her baby. He had tracked the signal to Harley's phone. Well, Lucius had actually tracked it for him and it was somewhere in Bludhaven. He assumed she would go to the nearest hospital.
Being wealthy helps, he had called ahead and gotten permission to use the helicopter landing pad at the first hospital past the city limits, he would get the word out and hopefully find her quickly. He was dropped off and hurried through the building to reception to check if any babies had been dropped off. It took a few minutes to ask the questions but he was leaving with nothing but frustration. He had called the PD and let them know they had a missing baby somewhere in the city. They let him know that GCPD had already contacted them. That was good, Tessa had taken his advice to get legal help.
If Bruce had harbored any doubt about her guilt, his phone call with Harley had taken care of that. He ended the call and let out a roar of anger. A small voice startled him.
"You're Bruce Wayne."
Bruce looked at the nurse standing just off of the curb.
"Everything okay?"
He frowned. "I'm looking for a friend." He lied.
"Oh, you got a picture? I can't tell you anything personal, but I can let you know if I have seen them."
Bruce had already been told by the front desk that Harley had not been through the hospital. He figured, what could it hurt? He pulled the phone out and showed the nurse the photo.
"Oh yea she was here about 10 minutes ago. I guess she was looking for you. She said she was coming to meet a friend but left her diaper bag in the car."
Bruce couldn't believe it. "You are sure it was her?"
She laughed. "Yeah, I remember her because I though it was so unfair to have a newborn and already having her figure back."
Bruce was excited now. "Thank you. Here put your contact information in the phone, there may be a reward if we find her." he handed her his phone.
Bruce called to see where his ride was, once the car service picked him up he was on his way to the Bludhaven PD.
