A Text In Time – Chapter 10 – Opening Night
Thursday 25th June 2020 – Kurt's apartment 10:00am
Dave woke up cuddling Kurt around the time of 9:00am. He was okay from the party yesterday as he didn't really drink as much as the others; he knew Kurt was going to feel it toady though. He smiled and kissed the other boys head and got up going into the kitchen. When inside the kitchen he started to make hot coffee and toast for Kurt to eat in bed.
He knew today was going to be a big, big day for Kurt; a day that would make or break Kurt's Broadway carer for life. He just wanted everything to be perfect. He knew that Kurt could sing and perform his heart out, so that wouldn't be a problem.
The only problem might be if Kurt were to get bad reviews or stage fright. But then again that wouldn't happen, for one Dave would happily beat up anybody who gave Kurt a bad review, and two Kurt loved the stage and performing, why on earth would he get stage fright?
Lucky for him his thoughts were cut short by the sound of a thud. The sound that sounded like someone falling of the bed.
Kurt.
Dave ran as fast as he could to the bedroom to find Kurt on the floor with the duvet around his waist, and him holding his head in pain.
"Oh Baby" he said looking at him. "You okay?" Dave asked.
"How much did I drink last night?" Kurt replied in a groggy voice.
"A lot" Dave said helping him back onto the bed laughing "I made you toast and coffee. You okay?"
Kurt smiled kisses his check "Yeah just got a really bad hangover"
"Awe" Dave said smiling and hugging him. "In that case you stay here and I'll bring breakfast to you"
"Thank you Davey" he said smiling.
And with that Dave went to get the breakfast, leaving Kurt alone with his own thoughts.
His first one was that he really have not have drank that much. His head felt like the inside of a washing machine, spinning around, and around into no end. His other thought were on how he was going to do tonight.
He knew he could sing and play this role to the best of his abilities, but what if nobody turned up?
Dave stepped back inside with the breakfast and sat next to him. He could tell something was up with Kurt ; even in high school if something was wrong Kurt just had that look on his face were you could tell he was not happy.
"What's up?" Dave asked.
Kurt cuddled into Dave's cheat "I know I can sing and perform to what I can do…..but what if nobody turns up, what if they hate me?"
Dave kissed his check, taking his hands into his own "Baby I will be there, Lizzy and Blaine and all your family and friends too. You're not going to be alone people will love you. You have the voice of an angel, and if they don't then screw them" he smiled.
Kurt blushed smiling and kissed him deeply "You always say the right thing"
The both smiled and ate the breakfast drinking there coffee. Things were perfect.
They then both got up and went to different places. Kurt had to go to the theatre to rehearse the songs they had to sing tonight and get a costume fitting. And Dave wanted to go to buy Kurt as secret present for good luck.
Blaine's Apartment 12:00 am
Blaine had been since 10:30am this morning. He had breakfast and was dressed and was no just pacing the room trying to make a choice on one had question that he had in the back on his mind.
Should he invite Jerome to come with him to watch Kurt's opening night ?
He really liked Jerome, which kind of seemed weird as they had only talked once. But Blaine really wanted to get to know him better. There was this kindness about him that made Blaine smile ear to ear.
"JUST CALL HIM ALREADY!" Lizzy yelled coming out from her bedroom. "YOU HAVE BEEN PACING THIS APARTMENT FOR A GOOD HOUR AND SOMETHING; IT SOUNDS LIKE A MARCHING BAND FOR HERE!"
Blaine giggled, she had Kurt's moody tempter. "Sorry" he said still giggling still "I will call him"
"Finally" she said happily.
6:00pm – The Winter Garden Theatre
Kurt had been fitted for his male Dorothy Gale costume. He had been told that as he was playing the male version of a woman, the name had been changed to Danny Gale; but the rest of the story would still be the same.
He was currently in the makeup chair having his hair and makeup down. This all fault like a dream.
He could believe it; he was going to star in a Broadway show tonight!
He had come so far since he meat Dave. He was going out to shops again. Having fun doing the old things he used to, had become friends with Blaine again and for the first time in a long time he fault so much like the person he used to be.
Who knew a dating app, you forget to delete can change your life?!
After his hair was done, he got up from his seat and called Dave.
Weirdly it went to answer machine.
That when he felt a big pair of hands wraps around his waist, and a pair of soft lips kiss his check.
"You look breath taking" Dave said hugging him from behind.
Kurt giggled "Thank you, but you weren't supposed to see me in till the show started, you promised!" he replied hitting him playfully.
Dave laughed "Sorry I couldn't help myself. You just look so perfect and I missed you"
Kurt blushed "You know it hard to stay mad at you when you're that cute"
Dave blushed back "Thank you. I also have this for you" he said handing him a small pink bag.
Kurt opened it smiled and tearing up; as inside he found a good luck card signed by all his friend, family and Dave himself. A small brown teddy bear holding a love heart and a bracelet with a message engraved on it saying "To My beautiful Kurt. Good luck tonight, I love you so much and I know you will be the amazing performer you are made to be. Lots Of Love – Davey x.
"Dave this is…it's perfect" Kurt said kissing him deeply putting on the bracelet.
Dave smiled "Your welcome"
With that Kurt was called for one final practice run.
"You'll be amazing. But if you need support me, you parents, Blaine and Lizzy will all be sat in the front row" Dave said.
Kurt smiled hugging him one last night "Thank you. I love you"
Dave smiled watching him leave into the back room, blowing him a kiss and taking his seat waiting for the others.
As 7:30 came around everybody was here taking their seats. Blaine sat with Jerome; Yes Jerome sat yes. Dressed in posh looking suits. Lizzy sat next to Dave wearing a pink glittery dress that Kurt had bought her for a school dance one year. The old glee club friends of Kurt's like Rachel and Brittany sat in rows behind, and finally Burt and Carol sat next to Lizzy smiling at Dave ready to watch the show.
8:00pm – Start of the show.
As 8:00pm came around Kurt took to centre stage, and as the red curtains opened, the hot spotlight hit him and the music began to play. Kurt began to sing and perform.
The first song he sang was somewhere over the rainbow. Dave couldn't help but tear up as Kurt looked at the empty seat next to the other side of Burt singing to it smiling.
His mum's.
Dave thought it so sweet that Kurt had bought his mother a seat; and this was there song. She would be so proud of him right now.
Halfway through the show Kurt was the part where he, the scarecrow and the tin man meet the cowardly lion.
Dave didn't really know this play very well but he felt like he could relate to the lion the most, not having the courage to come out in high school, but growing the courage because of Kurt's help and being the person he is now.
As the show went on people watched and laughed along. Kurt was amazing. A true performer. Ever Lizzy turned around to him hallway though and said she wanted to be just like him when she was older, and Rachel had to admit that Kurt was just as good as her after all.
As the show came to a close. Kurt took a bow and everybody clapped and cheered. Burt was crying happily with Carol holding his hand, Lizzy was smiling ear to ear. And Jerome and Blaine shared their first kiss.
After all the people had left Dave ran up to Kurt and gave him the most biggest kiss that his lips would let him do.
Kurt smiled kissing back. That was possibly the best night of his life. He loved being on the stage and performing; he finally knew that Broadway was where he belong.
"Baby you were incredible!" Dave smiled beaming with joy.
Kurt blushed "Thank you so much baby. That was amazing I finally feel like myself again and that's all because of you, thank you for this" he smiled.
"You're welcome" Dave smiled "You'll never know how much you helped me"
Kurt blushed handing him a key.
Dave looked at him confused "What this baby?"
Kurt smiled taking his hand "Your new house key. I want you to move in with me"
Dave smiled tearing up.
"Only if you want to, I didn't mean to make you cry I-
But he was cut off by Dave kissing him "I'm crying because I'm happy. I love you so much Kurt. I will happily move in with you"
Kurt smiled "Let's go get your things"
Dave smiled back "What about your after party?"
"The only party I want is with you, and this makes me happier" Kurt smiled.
And with that they both smiled walked to Dave's old flat to pick up his things. They were both so happy he was moving in, and they had both come so far.
The only way from here could be up. Sure there would be high and lows but they would get through it together
Because Kurt Hummel and Dave Karofsky helped changed each other's life's for the better.
