TRUE COLORS

Note: I'M SO SORRY! I didn't abandon this story or forget. It's been a long month. The longest all year, which is saying something. First off, I moved from California to North Carolina. Drove with my mom and sister for a few days. That was exhausting. I moved into my mom's cousin's house temporary. Then came the exhaustion of working all day on weekdays nannying. If you've never watched kids for nine hours straight, you don't know true exhaustion lol. Then I had to focus on finding my own place to live (which I found a place I could live month to month). And of course find time to somehow make friends (which I really haven't yet) and a church (haven't done so either). My grandma also passed away, three days before my birthday. That was hard. It's still hard. I miss her a lot and wish I could be there for my mom. My story also got deleted. Which was a pain. FINALLY, I caught a cold (yes a cold NOT corona) a few days ago. So that's why I haven't updated in just over a month.

StarCatcher10: That how it be. Hope school is going well so far. Glad I'm done with it at the moment. Seems too stressful.

MyLadyBugabooPrincess: Thanks! And I'm glad you love my story. Hope school goes well. Oooo paddle boarding. I've been twice. Once in a lake (bad decision) and the other time… actually also in a lake. But it was way more calm so it was fun. Oh cool! Let me know when it's up! Thanks again, I'm really enjoying it so far.

Candyfloss5: You're welcome. Guess it depends what it's for but I like Erin more. Sorry this update took so long and to hear you're abandoning my story. If it's because of the long update, I'd really like you to reflect on what my past month has been like. And know that it's impossible to always update quickly for any author. Life happens. I will never leave this story permanently. I gave my word. But if you can't see past that, that's not my fault. Good luck finding a story that exactly follows your impatient needs.

8unnix: Omg. I love how freaking long all your reviews are. Glad you really liked the picnic scene and was worth reading during your zoom call lol. Happy to hear the elections were to your liking and the chapter was good overall. I'm gonna cry! That's too sweet. I can't even reply to all the AMAZING things you've written because I've stopped functioning. GAH! Nothing like that. They're only… 15? 16? How old did I say they were? Lol idk, but either way nothing scandalous is happening. It would be very out of character. Can't recall what the fight scene was (and too lazy to check) but I'm glad you like it. Thanks for your wonderful review, as always.

Rose Catulus: Have I been spelling your name wrong all this time? So sorry. Glad to hear you like the new miraculouses. It's always daunting acting such huge parts of the show like that in my own way. Good luck in school!

Leafgreenflower: Happy to hear the Menaces are coming along well. Yes, because why not.

Miraculousrocks474: No idea. Some chapters are easier than others though. Ideas and thoughts just come to me. I'm sure I get some inspiration from somewhere but could not tell you where. I do have a passion for free writing so I think that helps. Thanks so much for reviewing!

xSapphirexRosesxFanx: Plagg won't admit it but in on inside he's as gooey as his favorite food. What? Too cheesy?

Unicorn404: Have you written a review before? Sorry I'm in no mood to check. Thanks for reviewing either way. Glad you're obsessed. Sorry the wait was so long.

Kwami lover: Sorry! No I'm not ditching this story. It's just been a crazy, emotional, long, exhausting month.

Sorry if I missed any reviews. Looks like at least one wasn't showing up on my laptop.

IMPORTANT: 1) Halloween in Paris (yes this is a Halloween chapter) is different than the U.S. Most people don't participate and those who do don't really trick or treat. Usually people will have parties. And any costumes that are worn are scary. No princess or fairies really. Warning for this chapter, some outfits are more descriptive than others. 2) HAVE YOU ALL SEEN THE NEW YORK SPECIAL?! I died. I screamed, stopped breathing, cried with that thing with Ms. Bustier. Ugh. Love. So anyway, don't think it really ruins or contradicts either of my stories, as long as you keep in mind that it happened between the end of season 3 and before my first story.

WARNING: this chapter might be short & suck. You've seen how my month has gone.

True Colors

Chapter 10: Traditions

October 18th, Friday

Chloe is sitting in the cafeteria, busily writing on a piece of notebook paper. She smiles in triumph as she finishes the last words. The filled table watches her every move as they wait to find out what's going on.

"Are you going to tell us why we're here?" Alya speaks up, slightly annoyed that Chloe had "summoned" them only to find themselves in silence.

"I told you, it's about my party on Halloween," Chloe rolls her eyes.

"But you already invited us this morning," Adrien points out.

"Yes, yes but we need to go over the rules for the costume competition," Chloe further explains.

"Competition?" Kim perks up.

"Of course. They're very simple. You must be in pairs. We'll all pick a theme from these choices," Chloe taps the paper. "You must stick with the theme you choose. Also, to keep things fair, every pair will be male and female."

"Sounds interesting," Félix smirks.

"Alright, any questions?" Chloe extends.

"Is it alright if two of my friends come?" Luka requests. "They can be a pair."

Chloe's eye twitches.

"Sure," Chloe nearly grumbles as she adds another theme to the paper. "Everyone get into pairs while I tear up the paper."

"Be the princess to this knight?" Adrien immediately turns to Marinette.

She giggles.

"I think we'll have to wear different costumes, but of course I'll be your partner," Marinette pokes his nose.

Some pairs easily come together. Nino just assumes him and Alya will be a team, so he doesn't ask until she "subtly" hints at it. Kim and Ondine are another pair. Kim animatedly talks about all the possibilities for costumes. What will they get? What will everyone else get? What store do they need to go to find the best costumes? His rapid speech amuses Ondine. She loves how excited Kim can get about things.

Even with the longest relationship among the group, Ivan still rubs the back of his neck when asking Mylène. She accepts without any falter. Her small but radiant smile calms Ivan's nerves. He smiles back. Luka asks Kagami, who wonders why he asked when it's obvious they would anyway. It wasn't necessary to ask her. Félix and Chloe (who blushes when asked) also team up together.

Other pairs take a little awkwardness.

"Our chances of winning increase by twenty percent if we team up together," Max adjusts his glass.

"Fine, whatever," Alix folds her arms.

Though she's secretly happy Max will be her partner. Marc and Nathaniel instantly face one another. A brief stare down taking place.

"There's only one way to settle this," Marc begins.

"I couldn't agree more," Nathaniel concurs.

While other groups are made, Nathaniel and Marc compete in rock-paper-scissors.

"Hey Rose, want to be my partner? Your creativity and positivity would be a great addition," Wayhem offers.

"How sweet!" Rose gushes, hands on her cheeks. "Sure! Let's do it!"

"Do you have a partner already Juleka?" Ethan questions.

"No," Juleka responds.

"Well, want to be mine?" Ethan adds.

Juleka nods. Thinking back on her promise to herself, Juleka clears her throat.

"Yes, thank you," Juleka accepts.

Denise asks Jean if he'll be her partner. He happily (and quite awkwardly) laughs, nods, with some words coming out of his mouth. Though he can't be sure they made since or were even French. She didn't say anything about it though. Paul and Sabrina become a pair. Sabrina also can't wait to find out their costume and get started on it. Even if Chloe isn't her partner for this. Paul seems nice.

Winning the duel, Marc finally gets to ask someone.

"Hey Aurore, want to be my partner?" Marc hopes she'll agree.

"Yeah, sounds good. Though I wish the three of us could be a group," Aurore smiles.

Marc slightly blushes.

"Mireille, uh, want to team up?" Nathaniel asks.

"Are you only asking me that because I'm the only option left?" Mireille folds her arms, sounding a little hurt.

"No, no! Mireille, we're friends. I'm sorry I waited to ask," Nathaniel apologizes.

"Oh, no problem," Mireille blushes in embarrassment from her accusation.

"If everyone has a partner we can start," Chloe turns to Nino. "Can I borrow your hat?"

"Why?" Nino leans away from her.

"To randomize the papers. Only fair that way," Chloe explains.

"Other people are going to touch it?" Nino's eyes widen.

"Oh for the love of–" Alya swipes his hat and tosses it to Chloe.

Nino's voice cracks at the sudden loss of contact with his precious hat. He rubs his head in comfort. Chloe mixes the papers in Nino's hat.

"How do we determine who gets to pull from the hat?" Marinette brings up.

"I'll set a system that arbitrarily chooses a pair. Like the pool game," Max types on his watch.

"What a superb idea Max! I'll add some variables as well," Markov compliments.

"Wayhem and Rose are first," Max reveals.

"You pick Rose. I'm sure you'll get a great choice," Wayhem gestures to the hat.

Rose giggles as she reaches her hand into the hat and grabs a piece of paper. (A/N: italicize for this part shows what the paper, a pair picks, says.) Aliens.

"Awesome! Nice choosing skills!" Wayhem praises.

"I love it! This will be totally fun!" Rose cheers.

"What's going to be fun?" Daniel stops at their table.

"Chloe is having a Halloween party," Adrien divulges.

"Sweet, I want in," Daniel sits at the table.

"You do?" Alya raises her eyebrow.

It's not like any of them are really friends with Daniel.

"Why not? Dressing up into scary costumes is great. Plus Chloe's parties are always the best," Daniel remarks.

"Alright, you can come if everyone else says it's fine," Chloe decides.

None of the "sure", "whatever", and "don't care" are that enthusiastic. Even though Paul nods his consent, he's not sure if he really wants Daniel there. He has been known to tease Paul every once in a while. Noting his hesitation, Sabrina assures the two of them will have fun. Even if Daniel is there.

"Okay, I'll send you the details too. You've got to bring a female though as your partner for the costume competition," Chloe informs.

"No problem! I can get a date," Daniel smirks.

Chloe shakes her head while writing yet again, another theme to a paper and adding it to the hat. Max looks at his watch to find who will draw next.

"Ivan and Mylène have been selected," Max voices.

"Go ahead Mylène," Ivan gestures.

She grabs a piece of paper from the hat. Grim reaper and headless person. Ivan likes what they got. On the other hand, Mylène doesn't particularly like it. But she reminds herself she's faced worse. She was Multimouse! Dressing up again shouldn't be as frightening. Kim and Ondine get to go next. Kim is so excited that he reaches into the hat without offering to Ondine. She giggles at his eagerness. Kim throws a fist bump in the air when he pulls zombies.

"You should just all quit now. We got the best one," Kim triumphs.

"Like I'm backing out in a competition, especially against you," Alix declines.

Félix picks for him and Chloe. They get to dress up as mental institutional patients. Luka and Kagami are the couple that go next. Luka chooses a paper for them. They get murderer and victim.

"Reasonable," Kagami determines. "I have so many ideas."

"Already?" Luka shifts slightly away from her.

"You must be prepared for anything," Kagami reasons.

This just got ten times scarier for Luka. Ethan and Juleka go after them. They pick the vague monsters paper. Still, there's a lot they can do with that. Marc and Aurore get clowns, which hands down probably is the scariest option. Max and Alix pick vampires.

"Sweet," Alix smirks.

It's Nino and Alya's turn. Nino is about to reach into his hat when he notices the look on Alya's face.

"Why don't you pick dear?" Nino laughs nervously.

His hand slowly withdraws from the hat. Alya smirks.

"Why thank you, dear," Alya emphasizes.

She chooses the demon paper.

"Actually that's perfect for you," Nino mumbles.

"What was that?" Alya fake snaps.

"Nothing dear!" Nino corrects.

Adrien and Marinette laugh under their breaths beside them. Denise lets Jean pick for the two of them. They get to be ghosts. Nathaniel and Mireille go after, choosing the mythical creature paper. Again somewhat vague so there's room for creativity. Paul and Sabrina end up with skeletons as their theme. Daniel is after them. He takes one glance at his witch and voodoo doll paper before standing.

"Awesome. Better go find a date. Text me the dets," Daniel leaves.

"And with that, it's Adrien and Marinette's turn," Max announces.

Marinette reaches for the hat when Adrien's hand speeds passed her.

"Finally," Adrien sighs.

Marinette drops her hand and mouth before glaring at her boyfriend. When he notices, his face turns bashful. That's when Marinette just rolls her eyes and shakes her head. They look at their paper. Dolls. Not what Adrien would have willingly decided on, but with Marinette as his partner she's sure to create something amazing. Plus, the two will have fun no matter what.

Adrien's eyes drift to the lone paper still in the hat.

"Who hasn't gone?" Adrien questions.

"My friends. This will be their paper," Luka answers.

"Maybe we should look at it and decide between the two which we want to do," Adrien suggests.

"That's cheating!" Marinette scolds.

"Okay, okay! I'm sorry," Adrien raises his hands in surrender.

Luka grabs the werewolf paper without looking at it and puts it in his pocket. He'll give it to his friends later when he sees them.

"I'll send the rules and other info. Text me if you have any questions," Chloe proclaims.

Everyone spends the rest of lunch talking about how excited they are, how they'll win the contest, and how they're ready for two weeks off school. For those two weeks, the city will be quiet, but chaos has to come back at some point.

October 30th, Wednesday

Marinette stitches the last button onto the costume. She smiles at her work. A week after getting their theme, Marinette had finished their designs. But being a week early left her extra critical and every time she looked at the costumes, Marinette ended up fixing something. Now it seems to be perfect.

With a satisfied smile, Marinette covers the two costumes. That's when she receives a text from Adrien.

"Hey Princess, we have some cat-ching up to do. You free?" Adrien sends with a cat emoji.

A small laugh escapes her lips before shaking her head. They see each other every day. Even if they can't spend time together as Adrien and Marinette, one will sneak over to the other's house in costume at night. Nevertheless, Marinette is eager to see her boyfriend. After checking the time, she's expecting a call any minute now, Marinette replies.

"Come over in an hour. I'll have cookies!" Marinette responds with a giant grin emoji.

Her phone rings.

Adrien beams in delight at Marinette's text. He can't wait to see her, even if they see each other all the time. He can't help it! Marinette is everything to him. Long periods of time without her just don't feel right. Not that he's clingy or needy. Of course not! Well, maybe his Cat Noir side.

"You're the mushiest guy I know," Plagg drags Adrien from his thoughts.

Adrien sighs.

"I can't help if I'm in love," Adrien smiles before slightly glaring at Plagg. "The only thing you love is cheese."

"True. I guess I know how you feel."

"Not even close!"

"You're not worried about suffocating your girlfriend are you? I mean you guys are always together. Is that normal for human couples?"

"Maybe," Adrien scratches his head. He's not exactly an expert. "It's not like I'm the only one. She comes over here too if our civilian selves don't cross paths that day."

"I'll never understand people."

"No shocker there."

"Wake me when it's time to leave," Plagg flies down to sleep on Adrien's pillow.

"We're going now."

"But I thought we had to be there in an hour," Plagg grumbles.

"We do, but I want to walk. Plus I have a stop to make."

After some more grumbling, Adrien says goodbye to his parents before walking down the street. He's surprised his father didn't insist on his bodyguard joining him. Guess he really is less paranoid now that his wife is back. With Plagg asleep, Adrien enjoys the nice day by himself. Though it's autumn, it feels nice out today. His stop completed, Adrien makes his way to Marinette's house.

Since the bakery is still open, Adrien walks through the front. There aren't any customers in line so Tom greets him immediately.

"Afternoon Adrien. Here for some treats?" Tom teases.

Adrien laughs.

"Marinette did promise cookies, so I should be fine for now," Adrien admits.

"She hasn't come down for any, wait a moment," Tom gathers some cookies and other treats on a tray. He hands it to Adrien. "You can take that up with you."

"Thanks. Is Sabine down here with you?"

"Afraid not. She caught a cold. She's upstairs resting. My father is helping out today."

"Someone call me?" Rolland pokes his head out of the kitchen. "Adrien. Nice to see you again."

"You as well Rolland. How's the baking going?" Adrien inquires.

"Good now that he has supervision," Gina also exits the kitchen.

"Everyone is here," Adrien chuckles before realization hits. "I'm not interrupting any family time am I?"

"Of course not, you're more than welcome to be here," Gina waves it off.

"Besides, you are family. Stay for dinner if you want too," Tom assures.

"Thanks. I might take you up on that," Adrien thanks.

After a few minutes, Adrien manages to head upstairs. Thank goodness for customers. In the living room, Sabine is sitting on the couch, surrounded by used tissues, and with a tea on the table. Her nose is a little red from continuous blowing.

"Hello Adrien," Sabine greets sounding congested.

"Hi. Can I get you anything?" Adrien offers.

"I'm fine, thank you. I think Marinette is still on a call, but you can head up if you want."

"Thanks."

Adrien walks up the stairs before knocking. He can hear Marinette talking to someone. She opens the door while still on the phone and smiles at her guest.

"Yes definitely, we totally should. Have a fun day tomorrow. I'll text when it's a good day for next time…" Marinette voices. "…Miss you too. Bye."

She hangs up.

"Hey sorry, hope you weren't waiting long," Marinette apologizes.

"I wasn't," Adrien sets down the tray of cookies and holds out the bouquet of sunflowers he stopped for. "Who was that?"

Marinette sets the flowers down to fill a vase with water.

"Nicolas. We're going to try to call once a month to keep in touch."

"And his aunt is okay with that?"

"She's the one that suggested it. She's really nice."

"I'm glad you guys can keep in contact. You must really miss him."

Marinette nods.

"Speaking of missing, is that why you wanted to come over?" Marinette teases.

"You know I can't stay away long from my Sunflower," Adrien pouts.

"Seriously, all he ever does is cry and mope when you're not together," Plagg flies out of hiding.

Marinette giggles at Adrien's appalled face expression. Tikki flies out ready to scold Plagg.

"Don't make fun of their love! It's beautiful! You're so, so, so… unromantic!" Tikki berates.

Plagg fake gasps.

"Well good, you know I hate all that stuff."

Tikki's glare hardens.

"I wish you'd try, but that seems to be asking the impossible. If you need me Marinette, I'll be over there, ignoring certain kwamis."

Tikki flies out of sight. Everyone else is silent.

"Is your kwami mad at my kwami?" Adrien leans closer to Marinette and whispers.

"Yep."

"And we're staying out of this?"

"Yep."

Adrien clears his throat. Plagg flies in the other direction mumbling something about cheese.

"So, you finished our costumes?" Adrien changes topics.

Marinette breaks into a smile.

"Yes. Just before Nicolas called. Let me show you."

Marinette uncovers the two outfits.

"Wow Marinette, amazing as always. It is done, right? No more adjustments?" Adrien jokes.

"Yes, yes. No more tweaking, promise."

"Good, then we can enjoy the rest of the day hanging out."

"And what should we do?"

"Isn't it obvious? I'm going to destroy you at Mega Strike III."

"In your dreams Agreste."

The two play at her computer until dinner. Sabine sits all the way across the table, making sure not to touch any of the platters. Tom serves her. Even though she's feeling better, Sabine doesn't want to risk getting anyone sick.

Later that night, Marinette is sitting at her desk working on a new creation. Tikki is quietly sitting a few feet away munching on a cookie, but something about her is off.

"Are you okay Tikki? Still mad at Plagg?"

"Maybe I am. I just don't understand why he can't at least try to be more positive, care about other things besides his stupid cheese."

"I think Plagg cares. Not with his words but by his actions. He's the kwami of destruction, being positive and nice doesn't come easy to him. You should know that, why are you so upset?"

"It's just… I don't want him ruining what you two have. Plagg may not do it on purpose but his influence can change things."

Marinette smiles.

"I don't think you have anything to worry about between Adrien and me. We love each other. You sure it's us you're worried about?"

"I don't know…" Tikki admits. "I guess I'm just stressed about everything. The Menaces, my fellow kwamis under their control. I know Plagg has his own way of caring, but for once I think I need more."

"Then tell him how you feel. I'm sure Plagg feels bad too. I mean he cares about you more than anyone or anything else."

If Tikki wasn't already red by nature, her face would be heating up.

October 31st, Thursday

The sun is setting over Paris, creating the most beautiful shades of orange and red. Marinette stares up at it through the sunroof in Adrien's town car. His hand gently squeezes hers. She looks down at their joined hands before traveling up to his face. Adrien must have subconsciously squeezed it, because his focus is out the window. Marinette smiles. Her eyes focus back at the beautiful sky. The ride is quiet but not awkward in the least. They're both content just holding each other and taking in the world around them.

The car stops in front of Le Grande Paris. Adrien hops out of the car before offering his hand to help Marinette out. She gladly accepts it. Adrien shuts the door and talks to his driver through the open passenger window.

"I'll text you when to pick us up. It'll be late," Adrien instructs.

Gorilla nods before driving off. The two walk hand-in-hand into the hotel and up to the rooftop. Though it's chilly outside, there are numerous portable heaters around. There are tables covered in snacks and lots and lots of delicious treats. There's a DJ, surprisingly not Nino, playing in the corner. The pool is filled with balls, just as it was on the Bourgeois' anniversary. Chloe spots them and drags Félix over to greet the pair.

"Aren't you two just adorable. As cute as… dolls?" Chloe guesses.

She guesses right. Marinette is wearing a red dress that goes to her knees. There looks to be dirt on the bottom, intentional of course. She's wearing black flats with white socks that go halfway up her lower leg. Her pigtails are uneven and messy. The crooked, black bow in her hair matches the one around her waist. On her face she's done some make-up to look as though she's cracked. In her eyes are contacts that make her eyes look bigger. Her long, fake lashes complete the look.

Adrien is wearing a suit. Make-up around his mouth shows that it's supposed to open like a puppets. Strings tied to his wrist hang down.

"Yep, you got us," Adrien confirms.

"And are you a marionette puppet?" Félix muses.

"Like it? Thought it was a cute play-on word," Marinette winks.

"Clever. You two look great," Chloe compliments.

"And you two are creepy," Marinette returns.

Chloe is wearing a yellow, orangish jumpsuit. Her hands are cuffed to her side. Though the chain allows her hands some movement. Félix is wearing a full on white straightjacket. Both have muzzles on the mouth, hair is messy, and a small amount of blood splatter on them.

"Looks the same as always for Félix," Adrien playfully quips.

Marinette elbows her boyfriend but laughs.

"Just be glad I'm tied up at the moment," Félix smirks.

"Anyway, enjoy the party. I'll make an announcement when the costume contest starts. Still waiting for a few couples to arrive," Chloe states, motioning them to join in.

"See you guys later," Marinette waves.

The couple find their best friends at the punch table.

"Demons, a fitting choice for you two," Marinette addresses them.

Alya faces them with a smirk.

"I do feel like I was made for this," Alya agrees.

Her short, strapless, red dress is unlike her usual attire, but it looks great on Alya. The ends are pointed. She has small, black boots on. Her tail and horns are red, along with prescription contacts. Her wings are black. Nino is wearing a red shirt with the bottom matching Alya's pointed dress. His shorts, shoes, and wings are black. He's also wearing red prescription contacts.

"It's a little dark for my taste," Nino confesses.

"Oh man up you baby," Alya sticks out her tongue. "I love your cracked make-up."

"Thanks, Juleka showed me how," Marinette credits.

"But she designed both of our costumes. All I did was show up and look pretty," Adrien laughs.

"As always," Nino snickers.

The girls join in the laughter. Paul and Sabrina stop at the punch table.

"Hey guys, you all look fantastic!" Sabrina compliments.

"Thanks. You two are looking a little thin, maybe you should eat something," Adrien puns.

Three of them groan, one laughs, and the other doesn't know how to react. Paul and Sabrina are wearing a black and white skeleton costume. They remove their hoods to drink.

"Who do you think will win the contest?" Paul asks.

"We just got here, we haven't seen that many costumes yet," Marinette notifies.

"We haven't seen everyone yet either," Alya contributes. "But so far I think Marc and Aurore stand a good chance."

"They're the clowns right?" Paul shivers. "Not sure I want to see them again."

"What's wrong with clowns? I thought they were fun," Adrien puzzles.

"Dude no!" Nino chastises.

"I've always found them creepy," Sabrina nods her head. "It's just a realization you make when you get older."

"Ah that must be it. Adrien is still just a little kid," Alya teases.

"Ha, ha. Not my fault if I've never seen one," Adrien reveals.

"Never? Dude, unfair," Nino pouts.

"Well, we're going to look at more costumes. See you four later," Sabrina puts her hood back on.

Paul does the same before they leave.

"Let's go ahead and mingle," Alya suggests.

The group moves over to where Max, Alix, Kim, and Ondine are talking. Alix is wearing a black, long sleeve dress with black tights. Her high tops are black as well. She has fangs in her mouth. Max is wearing a black suit with a cape and fangs. Kim and Ondine's clothes look normal except they're torn. Their skin has a strange tint to it, and blood is splattered almost everywhere, mostly on their hands and around their mouths though.

"This must be the hungriest group here," Adrien greets.

"Are you going to make a joke at every costume?" Marinette frowns.

"You know me," Adrien grins brighter.

"Wow guys you look good! Not as good as Ondine and me though," Kim determines.

"It is a little weird seeing you two so scary. I commend you," Alya praises.

"Ha! Just admit defeat," Kim turns to Alix.

She folds her arms.

"I admit nothing," Alix argues. "Max and I look way cooler than you."

"The point is to look scary!" Kim counters.

Alix just shrugs.

"Statistically, Luka and Kagami have a better chance at winning than either of us," Max speaks up.

"True, they look incredibly scary," Ondine concurs.

"Oh I can't wait to see what those two did! Let's go find them," Alya grabs Nino's arm.

She drags him away with Adrien and Marinette following them. They find Luka and Kagami talking to a couple they've never seen before.

"Hey guys," Luka welcomes.

"Wow, killer costume," Adrien puns once again.

Kagami is wearing dark clothing with a cape. She's wearing the scariest, yet somehow joyful mask. In her right hand is a blade covered in blood. There's blood spray on her costume most likely from killing her victim, Luka. His clothes look normal, except for the holes oozing blood from where he would have been stabbed. Across his neck is long gash with blood dripping down.

"Honestly, this might be the scariest thing I've ever seen," Marinette notes.

And she's seen a lot of scary things being Ladybug.

"I'm just glad we have such a great relationship," Luka laughs nervously.

"Yes, I could take you down easily," Kagami monotones.

There's an awkward silence before Luka gestures to his two friends. Both are dressed up as werewolves, hair and all. While the guy has a full mask on, the girl simply has her face painted with a furry hood and ears.

"These are my good friends Ulysse and Léonie. Guys, this is Marinette, Adrien, Alya, and Nino," Luka introduces.

"Nice to meet you guys. Heard a lot about you all," Léonie discloses.

"Us too. It's great finally putting a face to the many wonderful stories," Marinette laughs.

"Oh really? Well we have plenty about Luka," Ulysse smirks.

"Please share," Alya insists.

The eight of them talk for a bit before they decide to go their separate ways. Adrien, Marinette, Alya, and Nino head to the dancefloor. They're pulled into a circle by Aurore along with Marc, Nathaniel, and Mireille. The first pair are wearing colorful clown suits. While Marc's face is more dark and intimidating, Aurore's face is happier, still coming across as scary. Nathaniel is a dark green and black dragon, and Mireille is a gargoyle.

"You all look incredible as always," Aurore smiles.

Though with her face make-up she constantly looks like she's smiling.

"Thanks, I see now why everyone thinks clowns are creepy. It's no laughing matter," Adrien can't help but say.

Cue slap to the arm from Marinette.

"Everyone did a great job this year," Marc declares.

"I agree. This is definitely the best Halloween party I've ever been to," Nathaniel adds.

"Chloe does know how to throw a party," Mireille nods.

After a few minutes of dancing, Marinette twists her ankle.

"You okay?" Alya asks.

Marinette nods.

"Yeah, I think I just need to sit down for a little bit," Marinette starts limping to a table.

Adrien helps guide her. They sit at a table with Wayhem, Rose, Ethan, and Juleka.

"Oh what happened?" Rose gasps.

"I just stepped down wrong. You know me, always so clumsy," Marinette laughs it off.

"You okay?" Juleka questions.

"I'm fine. Just sitting for a while," Marinette answers.

"Need ice?" Adrien inquires.

"No, I don't think it's that bad," Marinette shakes her head.

"How about food? You feeling hungry?"

"I could use something sweet."

"Alright, I'll be right back. Keep your foot elevated and don't do anything dangerous while I'm gone."

Adrien kisses her forehead before heading to the dessert table.

"Don't eat it all before you've brought me back something!" Marinette shouts.

A high-pitched squeal erupts from Rose's mouth.

"You two are just the cutest!" Rose bubbles.

"And your costumes are amazing," Ethan praises.

"You really outdid yourself," Wayhem smiles.

Wayhem and Rose look very similar to a certain alien akumatized victim thrown in with some of their own flair. It's hard for either of the two to look scary though. Ethan and Juleka are dressed up as original monsters, hard to describe what they actually are, but at least they look scary.

"Thanks, you all look great too. Thanks again Juleka for the make-up tutorial," Marinette brings up.

"No problem," Juleka fixes her hair.

"You definitely need to help out the next time I put something on my site. Modeling too of course," Marinette smiles.

Juleka smiles back with a nod.

"Hey if you ever need a male model, I'd love to wear one of your designs," Ethan offers.

"Just don't let Adrien get jealous," Rose giggles.

"Oh Adrien is the perfect model," Wayhem sighs happily.

"Speak of which…" Marinette looks at the dessert table.

She wonders why he's taking so long. It's clear when she spots Ivan and Mylène standing next to him. Ivan is wear his usual skull shirt. He has black pants, shoes, and cape with a hood that mostly covers his face. In his hands is a fake scythe. Mylène is wearing a skirt, leggings and shoes. It looks like she's wearing a normal top except there's added material that covers her head. It looks as though her head has been chopped off.

"Whoa! Mylène looks so cool! How did she do that?" Rose notices.

"I helped a little," Marinette discloses.

"Impressive," Wayhem marvels.

Adrien comes back carrying two plates of food.

"I brought extra in case you want some for later," Adrien winks.

Marinette knows what he really means. In case Tikki would like some.

"Thanks," Marinette kisses her boyfriend's cheek.

She sneaks a cookie into her pocket for Tikki to enjoy. They all talk and eat for a bit, just enjoying each other's company. There's an argument that grabs most people's attention. Marinette, followed by Adrien, go to investigate. Near the entrance Alya is arguing with Daniel and his date, Geneviève.

"She can't stay here," Alya folds her arms.

Nino stands next to her, showing support without getting involved.

"Why not? She's my date," Daniel argues.

"Because we don't welcome backstabbers at our parties," Alya shoots.

"Seriously? You need to get over what she did. We know it was really Lila's influence," Daniel retorts.

"Guys, calm down," Chloe interrupts.

"I will, as soon as you tell "Ms. Best-friend-sabotager" to leave," Alya reasons.

"She's my date!" Daniel stands firm.

Chloe sighs. Who is she to kick someone out for the mistakes they've made in the past? Heck if anything, she should be surprised that all these people came to her party because they wanted to. Noticing the small audience, Chloe sees Marinette in the front.

"It's up to Marinette. She's the one Geneviève hurt the most," Chloe decides.

Everyone turns their head to Marinette. She clears her throat.

"Geneviève has already apologized for the things she's done. We've worked well on the council together so far. I have no reason not to trust her. I say she's welcomed to stay," Marinette shocks Geneviève. "I really like your witch costume by the way."

While Geneviève is wearing a black and purple witch costume with a dress, hat, and pointy shoes, Daniel looks like a cliché voodoo doll. With Marinette's statement, the small group disperses. Jean and Denise, in their ghost appearance with pale skin and light clothes, stand next to Marinette and Adrien.

"It's true that Geneviève has been a great help in the council, you should still be careful," Denise warns.

"Thanks, I will. But it's a party. No need to kick her out," Marinette shrugs.

"Besides Rose, you've got to be the nicest person I've ever met," Jean concludes.

"My girl's got a pure heart," Adrien boasts, wrapping his arm around Marinette and pulling her to his side.

"And the sweetest boyfriend. You two really are the cutest couple I've ever seen. Glad Adrien finally saw sense," Denise lightly grabs Jean's arm. "Let's go dance."

"Sure thing. See you two later!" Jean manages to get out before he's taken away.

Adrien pouts.

"Am I going to hear that for the rest of my life? "Glad Adrien finally saw sense", "Took the oblivious boy long enough". It hurts!" Adrien lowers his head.

Marinette giggles and tilts his head back up.

"It's fine Adrien. You were caught up in your own confusing love life. It's not your fault you didn't know how intertwined ours were," Marinette assures.

"Right. And we're together now," Adrien's spirit lifts. "That's what matters."

Marinette nods with a smile.

"Now, would my wonderful, amazingly talented girlfriend like to dance?" Adrien holds out his hand.

"You forgot drop-dead gorgeous, smart, and funny," Marinette accepts his hand.

"And humble," Adrien teases.

The two join everyone else on the dancefloor. Sometime later, Chloe takes hold of the mic from the DJ.

"Hey everyone, hope you're all having fun," Chloe starts as the crowd cheers. "Time to announce who won best, scariest costume."

"Like it isn't obvious," Alya shakes her head.

"After tallying up all the votes our winners, by a landslide, are Luka and Kagami as murderer and victim," Chloe announces.

Everyone claps. Kagami looks stunned.

"I won?" Kagami asks.

"Trust us, no one would mess with you looking like that," Marinette promises.

The fun continues late into the night. Long after the stars have appeared in the night sky and people's feet have become sore from dancing, three uninvited guests show up. The music is suddenly caught off when the DJ sees three figures standing on the rail. Everyone turns to them.

"Aw don't stop on our account. We love parties," Velocitrix smirks.

"Sweet," Alya pulls out her phone and starts recording them.

"What are you doing at my party?" Chloe scowls.

"Isn't it obvious? We're here to have some fun," Chamelemorph clarifies.

"And stop this silly tradition," Lemore contributes.

"Not unless I stop you," Kagami pulls out a sabre.

Kim jumps back and clings to Ondine.

"Where the heck was that hiding?!" Kim freaks.

"What an amateur," Chamelemorph sighs. "Lemore, would you do the honors?"

"Of course," Lemore pulls out his sword.

He jumps forward aiming for Kagami. She advances forward too, leaving the crowd out of the way. Not that they stay in place long. Everyone scrams for the stairwell. Alya gets dragged away against her will. Adrien and Marinette hide behind a corner to transform.

"Tikki, spots on!"

"Plagg, claws out!"

With the two transformed, they jump into action beside Kagami. Ladybug wraps her yo-yo around Velocitrix and swings her into Chamelemorph. Cat Noir extends his staff and blocks Lemore's strike.

"Look who's playing hero without her necklace," Cat grins.

"If I can't fight with my own strength, then I don't deserve that kind of power," Kagami deadpans.

"You make a meow-velous point."

"If you're done making puns, would you pay attention to your fight," Ladybug interjects.

"Oh right," Cat focuses.

He swipes his leg down, causing Lemore to fall on his back. Cat holds out his staff almost touching Lemore's chest.

"You can go now Kagami, make sure everyone is safe," Ladybug dismisses.

"You sure?" Kagami enquires.

"Yes. You did a great job holding them off," Ladybug thanks.

With a nod, Kagami takes her leave. Chamelemorph and Velocitrix stand to their feet.

"You guys get more and more impressive every time we meet," Chamelemorph compliments.

"We're a great team, always have been," Cat retorts.

"I suppose, most of the time. But you can calm down. We didn't come here to fight," Chamelemorph reveals.

"How can we trust you?" Ladybug narrows her eyes.

"What could we possibly want from here?" Velocitrix points out.

Nevertheless, Ladybug stands firm in her position. Cat doesn't back down either.

"Then why are you here?" Ladybug prompts.

"We needed some way to draw you out, and nothing works better or is more fun than crashing a party," Chamelemorph continues.

"Why are you here?" Ladybug repeats. "Why do you need us?"

"We came to warn you," Chamelemorph answers.

"About what?" Cat stresses.

"To stay out of our way," Velocitrix replies.

"That's it? After not being around for so long you come out of hiding to tell us that?" Ladybug questions.

"What about 'stopping traditions' and what not?" Cat quotes.

"Just an excuse to clear everyone out," Lemore explains.

"We have something up our sleeves," Chamelemorph divulges. "And if you do anything to stop us, people will get hurt."

"If you don't give us your miraculouses, we will take you down," Ladybug promises.

"We'll see Lovebug," Chamelemorph taunts. "Enjoy your day tomorrow. Because after that we won't hold back."

"Let's take them," Ladybug instructs Cat.

Quick as a flash, Velocitrix pulls out a smoke bomb. The explosion covers the whole area. Ladybug runs to the rail and looks over the edge, but both heroes are gone. Finishing some coughs, Cat lowers his staff from the empty ground.

"Did that seem weird to you? Them just warning us like that?" Ladybug inquires.

"It is suspicious, but why would they do it?"

"I don't know. But of all places to get us to confront them, they came here."

Cat looks around at the rooftop. Surely they could have picked anywhere. Why Chloe's party?

"You don't think they know who we are do you?"

"I can't say for sure. Chamelemorph did change into me, and he said he couldn't see my true identity; but what if he was lying?"

"You think he could know who you are?"

"If he does, he knows who you are too."

The two stand there in silence.

"I'm sure everything will be okay. We've dealt with a supervillain knowing our identities before."

"And look how that turned out."

Cat looks away from Ladybug.

"Don't remind me. It still makes me sick thinking about that."

"It shouldn't Cat," Ladybug walks over to him. "That's in the past. We're together."

She grabs his hands in hers before continuing.

"And I promise I won't make that wish again. I won't make any if I can help it."

Cat pulls her closer in for a hug. Ladybug wraps her arms around him and buries her head on his shoulder.

"Do you have a plan? Should we go after them?"

"Not tonight. Tomorrow is a special day after all. And I'm sure our friends are looking for us."

"Crap, I totally forgot."

The heroes pull away. They enter through the stairwell and detransform at the top. They walk down to see everyone hanging out in the lobby.

"Where were you two? And don't say you were making out," Alya puts her hands on her hips.

"We weren't. We couldn't make it to the stairwell so we hid on the roof," Marinette informs.

"And are the Menaces still fighting against Ladybug and Cat Noir?" Nino asks.

"Nope. They all split. Didn't see much of a fight," Adrien corrects.

"Well at least I didn't miss anything for the blog," Alya determines.

"Night isn't over yet so how about we go back up and party?" Chloe proposes.

"But the DJ ran off screaming," Ethan reminds.

"True, we can't party without music," Jean slumps.

"Dudes, I'm not invisible!" Nino chides.

"Oh right," Ethan laughs.

Everyone heads over to the elevator. The party isn't over yet!

November 1st, Friday

The party eventually ended though and everyone went home. The next day Marinette helps out baking with her parents. The baking isn't for customers but for a special offering. While her parents finish cleaning up, Marinette finds some candles in a cabinet. She places them in a basket along with the food.

The three of them walk down the streets of Paris. They stop at a flower stand, not minding the long line. By the time they reach the cemetery, families everywhere have flooded the place. With friendly smiles, Marinette and her parents make their way through the crowd. They stop at a particular grave, Kathleen Dupain.

The three of them set up the candles, flowers, and food. After a few moments of silence, they sit down and begin chatting, talking about the past year. Amongst the pain there's joyous laughter. Just as the sky darkens, Rolland and Gina arrive.

"What a lovely offering," Rolland greets.

"Have you been to your parents' grave?" Sabine wonders.

Both nod. Gina places a hand on her heart.

"I can't believe it's been four years already my little Kathy," Gina sheds a tear.

The others remain silent, memories coming to mind.

"We were just telling the story about Aunt Kathleen at Christmas several years ago, but I think you tell it better," Marinette gestures for her grandmother to tell it.

"Very well. It is my favorite story," Gina takes a seat.

Tom winks proudly at his daughter. Everyone listens to the story, laughing and crying. That story turns into several others in what they remember most about Kathleen and her life. Since Rolland hasn't been seen in a long time, they get to hear new stories.

At a different cemetery, Adrien and his parents are sitting at Gabriel's parents' graves. Their time spent together is more quiet. Gabriel enjoys just sitting in their presence. They do share some favorite stories, but talking about the last year is more difficult. Emilie clears her throat, questions surrounding her.

"Did you come for me last year?" Emilie puts out there.

The question sounded hesitant, probably due to the fact that it seemed like a taboo topic.

"No," Adrien speaks up. "If I ever wanted to be close to you I'd go to your statue in the garden."

"My fault," Gabriel claims responsibility. "Leaving the house most of the time was too hard."

Emilie grabs both of their hands.

"I'm glad we're back together as a family now," Emilie smiles.

"Me too mom," Adrien leans over and hugs her.

Gabriel joins in as well. He really did miss these times together. He made mistakes, but now he'll do anything (that's good) to make things right.

Family is one of the most important things in life. They can be hard and be a mess, but at the end of the day, your true family will always be there for you. You can count on them. They love and support you through all times. That's why it's important to remember them, whether they're still with you or they've gone on ahead.

Thank you to everyone who is still reading my story. Sorry if this chapter absolutely sucked. I haven't really been in a good place to write. I'm flying back to California for a week for my grandma's funeral, but I promise not to take so long to update again. Unless the plane crashes and I end up on a deserted island. Then please be patient.

Things to clear up… 1) costumes were chosen randomly by wheel decide, except for Mylène's because I felt it would have best for since she's so short. 2) pairing for the costumes does NOT mean that those two will become a couple or anything. Some I just had to stick with someone. Though do tell me if there is one you want me to write more about (that isn't already a clear couple). 3) totally made up Luka's friends. It occurred to me we never meet his friends. Though he does seem like the type who is more independent, I gave him some friends.

No question for this chapter. No energy to think of one. But please still leave a review!
