Suddenly a large wolf enters the clearing at my side. He looks at me with a menacing look in his eyes and I know that Edward has something to do with this. I can hear Bella screaming from somewhere behind me but I also realize that they're all too far away to help me. I think about how much I love my Bella as the wolf lunges for me and I brace myself for impact.

Demetri - DPOV

In the small amount of time that it takes the wolf to reach me, memories flood my mind. Every beautiful and loving moment that I got to spend with my Bella replays itself in front of my eyes. I am so lucky that I got to experience how it feels to be loved so completely and irrevocably by her, my precious mate. She is the best thing that ever happened to me. Suddenly her words from this morning sound clearly in my mind.

'You promised me forever, Demetri Volturi, and I'm not settling for anything less than that. I will kill everyone that tries to come between us and I know that you will do the same. I'm yours and you're mine, for eternity.'

I shift my stance at the very last second and reach out to grab the wolf by his neck. I'm not going to roll over and play dead. I have a mate that wants to spend forever with me. I'm not going to die today. I stare the wolf into his eyes and right before my hands make contact with his neck, a large surge of power travels across the clearing.

Bella – BPOV

I look in horror as a large wolf enters the clearing where Demetri is standing. I scream his name at the top of my lungs. I look over to Jasper, only to realize that he is not standing close enough to help him. Anguish and worry fill my heart as I notice Demetri's stance. It's defensive instead of his usual offensive stance as if he's waiting for the inevitable to happen.

A sudden movement to my right gets my attention and anger begins to build inside me as I notice to smug look on Edward's face. My eyes flick to Jasper, who gives me a quick, almost unnoticeable nod. The appearance of the wolf is his doing. I'm going to kill him if anything happens to my Demi. What did he think? That I would happily skip his way if something were to happen to my true love? God, he can't be that delusional.

I let the anger build as I watch in horror as the wolf lunges for Demetri. The mouth of the beast opens up widely as he goes straight for Demetri's neck. Suddenly something inside me snaps and I reach out as if I want to push the wolf away. I feel a jolt of power leaving my hands as I scream 'no!' and watch in awe as the wolf flies back a hundred meters or more. Did I just do that? I stare at my hands in wonder until the sounds of battle pull me from my daze.

I look up and see that Jasper, Emmett, and Felix have joined my husband and they are trying to restrain the wolf. Alec rushes to their side and uses his gift to numb him. I let out a sob as I run into Demetri's arms and let my hands wander his body to check if he's still in one piece. He cups my face with his hands and kisses me passionately, before saying: "I'm okay, amore mio, thanks to you. I love you so much. I believe you're a total shield, Bella. You're amazing, tesoro."

"I thought I was going to lose you… I've never been so scared in all my life… I don't know how I did it."

Jasper moves our way and puts his hand on my shoulder as he says: "Gifts most often present themselves in moments of extreme emotions. This situation would qualify as such, don't you think? You have an eternity to figure out the specifics."

I give him a thankful smile and Demetri nods at him in agreement. A sudden realization has me growling softly as I turn around to find Edward. He is standing with Carlisle and Esme in the middle of the clearing. They're clearly discussing something regarding the wolf because Carlisle keeps motioning his way. Jasper and Demetri exchange a look I can't really place before we start walking toward Edward.

Our approach is interrupted by a gasp from Alice as she comes out of a vision. "Victoria! Bella, put your hood back up, quickly!"

Demetri - DPOV

I help Bella with her hood and move her behind me and Jasper. Alice moves beside her mate and motions to the forest in front of her, while saying: "She will be here any minute. She believes Bella to be dead. Let her think that. She's not expecting to find us alive and the Volturi present. I can't see the rest of the vision because it will be a split decision from her part."

I call for Jane to join me and Bella, while Felix and Alec are to keep a close eye on the mutt. The Cullens move to stand next to Alice and Jasper. Suddenly a high-pitched scream erupts as a red-haired vampire runs into the clearing. "This isn't possible! You should all be dead!"

She drops down in a crouch while growling menacingly. Her eyes fall on Edward and she hisses. "You! You and that stupid human are the reason my James is dead. You will pay for that. I couldn't kill your precious human, but I killed her parents and I will be the end of you." Bella gasps for unneeded air and I nod at Jane. I can't help smirking as Victoria drops to the ground as Jane unleashes her gift upon the woman that caused my Bella so much grief.

I turned around to look at my Bella as she stares at Victoria with a blank face. I don't need Jasper's gift to know that she's feeling a dozen different emotions right now. Venom tears pool in her eyes as the reality of Victoria's words sink in. This woman was responsible for the death of her parents. I pull her close for a hug and whisper softly in her ear: "Do you want the honor of executing her, amore mio?"

Bella's eyes turn black and her face hardens as she nods. I kiss her hooded head and move to stand behind Victoria. Jane stops using her gift and I wait for Victoria to stop trashing, before picking her up and securing her with her hands behind her back. Victoria starts yelling as she notices my hold on her. "Why are you helping them? They told a human about our existence. That's against the law. They killed my mate, they separated a mated pair. They deserve to die. Let me go! I did nothing wrong."

I snort at her last words. "You can't be that stupid. You created a newborn army; you risked exposure by doing that. You admitted killing the parents of a Volturi guard and you dare to say that you did nothing wrong. That's rich."

Victoria stops her struggle as my words register in her mind. She squeaks: "I didn't kill the parents of a Volturi guard! I killed the parents of his human pet." I push her down to her knees and say: "That's where you're wrong. She isn't his, she's mine. She is my mate and she isn't human."

Panic flashes over Victoria's face as she lifts her head to stare at a still hooded Bella. I watch with pride as Bella lifts her hands to move her hood down. Victoria gasps for unneeded air as she recognizes my Bella. "How… no… Riley said you were dead…"

Bella – BPOV

I stare at the woman that killed my parents, I can see her mouth moving but the words don't register in my mind. I give in to the bloodlust and let it flow through me. My own voice sounds foreign to me as I say: "Your mate was a sadist. He hunted me and tortured me, just because he felt like it. He was a poor excuse of a vampire and he got what he deserved. I relish in the memory of him screaming as Jasper tore him apart and the fire consumed him.

You blame me, but you should blame him for fucking up. You messed with the wrong coven and you definitely messed with the wrong girl. I'm not the weak little human you thought I was. I'm Bella Volturi and I'm your executioner. You'll die by my hand for what you did to my parents. You can join that mate of yours in hell. I hope you burn there for the rest of eternity."

I move in front of her and place my hand on both sides of her head. I stare into Demetri's eyes as I twist her head off. The sound of metal tearing rings out throughout the clearing. I stand still for a couple of seconds before looking at the lifeless head in my hands. I walk to the fire that is still burning in the center of the clearing and throw her head in. Demetri follows me close behind with her body and we throw that into the fire together. He pulls me close and kisses the top of my head, before saying: "Are you okay, cara mia?"

"This won't bring my parents back, but Victoria got what she deserved. Meeting the Cullens changed my life in so many ways, good and bad, but I wouldn't change a single thing because the whole chain of events led me to you. You will be by my side for the rest of eternity, you're my true love and you gave me a family that will never let us down. I will be fine because you're in my life."

I sigh contently as Demetri pulls me close against him. I meant every word I said. I loved my parents very much and I would remember them forever. I just know my mum and dad would have liked Demetri very much. They died because I got involved in this crazy world, but they gave me the greatest gift of all, eternal love. I will always be grateful for that. I pull back a little and kiss Demetri softly as I try to send him all the love I feel inside.

We both gasp for unneeded air as an overwhelming amount of love washes over us and we turn to look at Jasper. My voice is just above a whisper as I say: 'Whose feelings were that?" Jasper smiles brightly and says: "Both of yours, you feel exactly the same. Your love is strong and everlasting. It's one of the most powerful emotions I've ever felt." I rush over toward him and hug him fiercely. He snickers as he says: "You're welcome, darlin'."

Demetri - DPOV

I follow my Bella and give Jasper a brotherly hug. Jane moves to Bella's side and hugs her. Her words make Bella smile like the brightest star. "I'm so proud of you, Bella. You saved our brother and you got justice for your parents. I love you, my sister." I give Jane a quick hug too and whisper a soft 'thank you'. Jane gives me a quick smile before running to Alec and Felix. Aro is going to be even prouder of my Bella. That's for sure.

I take Bella's hand in mine and walk toward the wolf whose still under the influence of Alec's gift. Carlisle joins us. He keeps looking at the wolf with a rather puzzled look on his face. "Is there something wrong, Carlisle? Do you need to tell me something about this mutt?"

"It's not a real wolf. It's one of the male members of the Quileute tribe. They live in the reservation down by the coast. I didn't know they started changing into their spirit form again. I thought the last spirit warrior died decades ago. I made a treaty with the leader of the tribe around eighty years ago. We, the Olympic coven, promised not to hunt humans in the area and they promised to leave us alone as long as we stayed on our side of town. I don't understand why one of them would come here and attack you."

"Well, I guess we'll have to ask him then. Alec, release him from your gift. Jane, stand ready to take him down if he attacks."

I keep my face blank as I see Jasper moving in behind Edward to block his escape. He motions Emmett to do the same. Edward doesn't even notice it. He is staring at my Bella with a longing gaze until Alice snaps him out of his trance-like state with an elbow in between his ribs. His eyes flick to her and a growl escapes his lips as he reads her thoughts. I snort and return my attention to the shape-shifter in front of me.

A soft growl indicates that his senses are returning slowly. Suddenly the wolf starts shaking and he shifts back into his human form right in front of us. A soft "Oh my…" from Esme brings the fact that he's totally naked to my attention. I sigh before saying: "Felix, give the boy something to cover himself, for fuck sake." He grins widely and throws his cloak to the boy. He puts it on with a disgusted look on his face, but at least he's not flaunting his dick for everyone to see. Now let's get some answers. "Who are you, boy?"

The boy clenches his teeth together but the quick look he throws at Edward doesn't escape my notice. It looks like my gut feeling was right. Edward is involved somehow. Jasper gives me an affirmative nod and I continue: "I advise you to answer my questions. We will get the answers we seek, one way or another, so … who are you?"

Hatred and disgust are written all over his face and he almost growls as he answers: "I'm Jacob Black, the descendant of Ephraim Black and proud member of the Quileute tribe. Who's asking?"

My answer is interrupted by Bella, who takes a step forward and says: "Jake?" The eyes of the boy open wide as he looks at Bella. I pull Bella behind me as he takes a step forward and he drops to his knees while saying: "Bella? Is that you?" Bella gives my shoulder a reassuring squeeze, before nodding. "Yes, Jake, it's me. How are you?"

"What the fuck, Bella! How do you think I am? I found out two days ago that my best friend is a fucking bloodsucker. You're my natural enemy now. When Edward first told me, I didn't want to believe him, but somewhere deep down I realized it had to be true. You were so attracted to them and it got you killed in the end. Did you enjoy sucking her dry, leech?"

A growl that's louder than mine echoes across the clearing and before I can react Bella moves toward the boy and grabs him by the throat. She hisses in his face and says: "What did you just say to my husband, Jake?"

"Your husband?" The boy swallows audibly as his eyes flick to Edward once again. Bella doesn't respond to the look but answers the question instead. "Yes, my husband. I married Demetri after he turned me into a vampire. I asked him to do it. He didn't suck me dry, like you so poetically put it. He turned me lovingly and he didn't leave my side while I was changing, not for one second. He told me over and over again how much he loves me and I love him more than anything in this world."

Bella throws him back on the ground and moves to my side. I pull her close against me and kiss her passionately. God, my mate is so hot when she's angry. Jasper smirks as he registers my emotions and I shrug my shoulders what has him smiling even wider. Bella rolls her eyes at our silent conversation. She gives my ass a gentle squeeze and I moan softly into her ear. God, she knows me so well.

Edward - EPOV

I watch as Carlisle moves forward and says: "Jacob, my name is Carlisle Cullen, I was the one that met with Ephraim, and together we made the treaty. We always kept our promise so I don't understand why a member of the Quileute tribe would attack us when the treaty is still in place?"

Fuck, this was not the way this was supposed to go. That wretched Demetri should have been dead by now and Bella would have run straight into my arms, begging me to love her. I should have known that Jacob wasn't capable of killing him. I take a small step back, only to notice that Jasper and Emmett are standing right behind me and they're blocking my way out. Alice throws me a disappointed look and I realize that they already know. The words that Jacob says next only surprise Carlisle and Esme so it seems.

"Edward came to me and asked for my help. He told me Bella's killer was in town and that he needed my help to get his revenge. He wanted to kill Demetri. I thought Bella was unhappy so I agreed because no one gets away with killing my best friend, certainly not a leech."

Esme gasps for unneeded air as she starts sobbing. Carlisle wraps his arms around her and looks at me with a disappointed look in his eyes. "Edward, how could you?" I feel how Emmett and Jasper grab my arms to keep me from running and watch as Alec works his horrible gift on Jacob again. Then I realize that Bella is stalking toward me. The look in her eyes is cold and positively lethal. Why does she misinterpret my every move? Why can't she understand how much I love her, how much better her life would be with me by her side? I start pleading with her; I've got to make her see.

"Stop, Bella, this isn't you. Can't you see what is happening with you? They are turning you into a monster. You're not one of them, Bella. You're loving and kind. It's me, Bella, I'm your Edward. You love me. Come back to me, love, and you can be yourself again."
