AN: Upstead is canon! Who else is so excited?
Jay Halstead felt his eyelid being pulled open. "Morning, Daddy."
"Good morning Emmy."
"Are you awake?" The five year old asked.
"Well I am now." Jay half groaned.
"It's your big day!" She said throwing her arms out for emphasis.
"Emmy I told you let Daddy sleep a little more." Hailey said coming into their bedroom.
"I thought he would want pancakes too." Emmy said while putting on her most innocent face and laying her head on Jay's shoulder as if to say 'Daddy back me up here'.
"Hails it's ok. I should be getting up anyway." Jay responded as he gently nudged Emmy so he could sit up. He headed down the stairs to see his son Danny finishing up his breakfast.
"Hey Buddy how are the pancakes?"
"Good."
Jay grabbed a napkin and started wiping some syrup off Danny's face. "All right, go get dressed."
The seven year old headed towards his room. Emmy then came skipping down and stopped her brother on the stairs to show him her new dress. Forty-five minutes later everyone was dressed and heading out the door. Once everyone was in the car and Hailey darted back into the house last minutes to grab her and Jay's hats they were off.
Once they arrived at the auditorium Jay gave the kids a hug and Hailey a kiss before going to the entrance he needed and the family went to go grab seats.
"Look at you guys." Vanessa said as walked up to them inside the room. "No doubt whose kids you are." Danny on top of being Jay's mini me was wearing a dark green Henley shirt, jeans, and a black zip up hoodie. Emmy had on a dress that was a buffalo check pattern similar to Hailey's flannel shirts.
"Don't I look pretty?" Emmy said twirling around.
"Yes you do and your brother looks very grown up."
"He wanted to dress like Daddy does when goes to work." Hailey said kissing her son's head. "Oh there's Will and Natalie. Guys come on let's head inside before it starts."
Jay remembered his graduation from the academy when he believed only Gail and Danny Corson were there. It wasn't until after his father's death he realized he had been there also. His promotion to detective was during a blizzard so it was just a few coworkers were in attendance. Now that he was getting promoted to Sergeant and it felt like everyone was there. Hailey was sitting with Emmy on one side of her and Danny on the other. Will, Natalie and his nephews next to them. The row behind them was the intelligence unit. Emmy kept turning around to wave at Vanessa. Hailey put her hand on the shoulder and then pointed to the stage so she would see Jay walk across the stage to receive his Sergeant star.
Once the ceremony was over the newly promoted Sergeants headed out to find their families. As soon as he was in sight Jay heard both his children.
"Daddy!" They said in unison as they ran over, Jay crouched down to their level to hug them.
Vanessa watched the kids run over to basically tackle hug Jay. "Hailey you want to boss up too?"
"Nope, not even a little bit. I am fine where I am as a detective." She responded as she pulled her phone out to capture the moment. After several more pictures Hailey handed phone to Kim in order to join them in the pictures.
Kim snapped the pic of Jay and Hailey in their dress uniforms with Danny and Emmy each wearing a parent's hat.
"I still can't believe you're retiring Sarge." Adam said looking over at Voight.
"The unit is in good hands with Jay. Also I'll just be going from babysitting you guys to babysitting the little Halsteads."
"All right." Jay said "Let's take this over to Molly's, meet everyone there in an hour?"
"Daddy you did so good today." Emmy said as they headed over to the car. Jay looked down at his daughter holding his hand and beaming up at him.
"He took the test awhile ago, he did good then." Danny responded back at his sister. Emmy stuck her tongue out in response.
"Hey both of you." Hailey nipped it in the bud. "Daddy does good every day at work ok?" Both children nodded. "Mainly because I'm there to keep him in line."
"Mommy is such a comedian. All right everyone in the car, we can't be late to my party."
AN: This is the part where I shamelessly ask for reviews. Also was thinking about a more in depth look at how Patrick came to the Halsteads (last chapter if anyone skipped that), Would people actually want to read that?
