Chapter 11
Robin really screwed up this time. He'd never seen Regina so furious. She was plenty angry that first night they met. Yet somehow, this was worse. She just looked so disappointed. Was his and Nottingham's feud so ridiculous? Was he really so out of touch that he let dubious aspects of his life go unnoticed? Robin never questioned the legitimacy feud with Nottingham. Was it worth losing Regina over?
Hell no.
There's no question about it. He needs to make things right. Robin has had all night to think on it. No feud argument or rivalry justifies the behavior they demonstrated yesterday. He still hates Nottingham and blames him for a lot of what happened yesterday. But this almost week or so of knowing Regina has really forced Robin to look at what role he plays in his own life. He isn't the hero in everyone's story. Definitely not Regina's. Or Nottingham for that matter. He doesn't even think he is the hero in his own story. The crashing reality of not being the center of everyone's world or loved by them, or maybe even liked by them was a hard thing to hear. Regina didn't sugarcoat it. Why would she not do the same about this?
Robin knows his original reason for befriending Regina wasn't wholly unselfish. He wanted to prove that she would like him if she just got to know him. But he got to know her instead. Robin can't pinpoint when it all changed for him, but he really wanted to get to know Regina. He really wanted her in his life. She was addicting. Her strong, opposing views on life was a refreshing change of tempo. And it wasn't just him who felt this way. He's seen the way his friends were lured in to Regina charm. She has a contagious energy about her. She truly is a piece of art.
And he went and cocked it all up.
Not just for him, but all of his friends. Apparently, Regina isn't responding to anyone's calls or messages. Robin can't be surprised. Regina was really angry. She needed time to cool down.
Now he has to deal with all the collateral damage. He's grateful he kicked his parents out of his account before this all blew up. The media has been blowing up over the both his and Keith's unaccepted apologies. Now people want to know who Roni Sanchez is more than ever and why Hollywood's two most beloved teen popstars are begging for her forgiveness. Everyone wants to know what happened. The issues come in when fans start to give their own hypotheses on the matter. People have already begun taking sides. He doesn't want Regina to become the villain in all of this. None of this was on her. He and Nottingham were the ones who cocked up. Regina has every right to be angry with them. Although the world remains in the dark about what really went down yesterday. And among the masses of people who want to know what happened are his bandmates. Who have currently broken into his house…
"The hell did you do Robin?!" Mulan yells the moment she steps foot into the kitchen. Robin is a tad thrown off my the outburst. Not so much the outburst itself. He heard when they came marching from the living room. No, he was more surprised by whom the words came from. Mulan, in all his years of knowing her, is not one to raise her voice in conversation.
He really screwed up.
"I can explain." Robin says none too proud.
"You better hurry it up then." Will grunts from the other side of the counter where all 4 of his bandmates stood. Each of them wearing varying degrees of worry, anger, and expectation.
Robin rubs the back of his neck before beginning. "After Regi- Roni posted that photo of Nottingham, I went to go see her."
"Rob-" John starts, but Robin talks over him.
"I only wanted to see her." He assures them. "Honestly, it was fine at first. I met her granny. She was going to cook me something special. Which reminds me I owe her money."
"Get to the point." Tuck interrupts.
Right. "Nottingham showed up. We got into a tussle and got kicked out of her Granny's diner. Regina included. Roni! God." He quickly corrects himself. Robin sighs. He prays his mates don't notice his slip ups. "The argument didn't stop there. We kept at each other to the point Roni began yelling at us. I wish it stopped there, but we couldn't stop bickering with each other. She left us at the street and told us not to follow."
"Rob what the hell." Mulan leans heavily on the counter. "She won't answer even us. What did you say to her?" She looked I heart broken. Robin hadn't noticed how close his friends had gotten to Regina.
"She tried to be mediator even after we got her kicked from her place of work. She told us our rivalry was ridiculous. She couldn't understand how we just didn't like each other and we couldn't understand the point she was trying to make."
"And what point was that?"
"That our feud isn't normal."
The group remain quiet for a moment. No one says a word. Everyone kind of looks from person to person. What is the right next thing? Obviously Regina wants her space. He'd give her that. There are things Robin has to set right before he can see her anyway. He wants to apologize to her granny and pay her for any damages he might have caused in the fight. But incase Regina is there he would have to start with something else.
"I going to have to talk to Nottingham. I think we are going to have to put an end to this feud. I still don't like the guy, but I can see how it can be toxic to those around us."
"Robin, none of us like Nottingham." Little John walks around the counter to be on the same side as Robin. "He's done his fair share of misdeeds to us as well. But we were raised to be civil towards people, even those we don't particularly like. If not for us but the sanity of those around us."
"I have to agree with Roni on this one. I've kept my mouth shut for a long time." Tuck starts. "We've missed out on parties and mutual friends' birthday parties because you couldn't stand to be in the same room as Keith. You're no fun when there is a feud involved."
Robin can't say he's not hurt by Tucker's words. He can't say that hearing him say 'Keith' didn't boil is blood just a little. He had not taken in to consideration how his feud would negatively affect his social life. Or what his mates thought of it. Was he really that selfish? Yes. Regina told him so the first night they met. Robin never analyzed the extent of his presence in some else life, other than the fact that he was there. Robin is not perfect. He always knew that. What he didn't know was how far from it he was. Since meeting Regina, he has learned so much about himself that he needs to improve. And he has he thinks. He never thought it would be this hard.
Can Zelena go a day without Roni drama? Seriously. Does she not understand that that the world doesn't revolve around her? Zelena will not let this girl dim her spotlight. She could deal with that shit another day. Today was her day to shine. And boy does she plan on shining. To be completely honest Zelena wasn't sure she was even going to show up to the gig. Granny was stressed about some fight she had with Regina. And Regina... well Zelena didn't what her sister was doing. Most likely moping like Granny. She hadn't seen her all night. Her Grandmother wouldn't even tell her what happened or why they were avoiding each other. She just kept sulking and mumbling about how easy children have it these days. The sour mood was doing nothing for her skin. She had to get out of there.
And she's glad she did.
Marion's driver picked her up from a fancy hotel she and Ruby Ubered to. She had to keep up appearances. Granny's cute cottage house and old neighborhood wasn't going to cut it. And there was no way in hell she was going to be caught dead in Abuelo's pink car when she meet Jefferson Hatter.
Her cousin didn't seem to be enjoying the limo ride as much as she was. She couldn't, not with her head in her phone. Ruby was trying to get one of the workers from the diner to spill the tea on what went down yesterday. Zelena couldn't say she wasn't interested in what she'd find out. What could possibly make sweet Granny get angry at little miss i-can-do-no-wrong? Zelena hates to think it, but it was about time. No one's perfect. Not even her sister. It's about time everyone else saw that.
From the hotel, the two of them were dropped off at a studio set where they met Marion. And she was talking to… Oh my lord… Jefferson Hatter! He was so much taller in person. Which is saying something. Zelena gave Marion a cute wave when she was spotted and made her way towards them.
"Jeffrey, this is the girl I was talking about. Zelena, Jefferson Hatter. Jeffrey, Zelena." Marion gave a quick introduction.
Jefferson looks to Zelena and gasps. Internally, and only for a millisecond she worried he didn't like her. That panic was quickly washed away when he smiled and cupped her face.
"Beautiful."
This was hands down the best experience Zelena has ever lived through. Of course, people have told her how beautiful and gorgeous she is. But no one has ever made her feel beautiful when saying those words. The way he looked at her as if he'd never seen such art. It was the highest compliment she could ever receive. And to come from Jefferson Hatter himself.
Mwaah!
"Zelena," Jefferson starts in a low voice. "I would love for you to be the face of my next line. You are absolutely stunning. Wow!"
"Thank you sir. You cannot believe what it means to hear you say that." Zelena shakes his hand when offered.
Jefferson frowns. Uh oh. "You offend me. Now I have to start the search all over. And as I find the perfect specimen, she calls me sir. Sir!" He gasps. "Am I that old?"
Zelena panics. Did she mess up already? "I am so sorry. I didn't mean to offend." She says quickly. Her panic is clear on her face. Even Marion looks worried.
Then he laughs.
What?
"I only kid Zelena. I'm not mad." He reassures her. "But seriously, call me Jeffery. All my friends do. None of that 'sir' nonsense." We are friends now.
Zelena laughs off her panic. She hears Ruby let out a sigh behind her. She would be a liar if she said her heart wasn't still racing. They were led further on to the set. The set design was massive, yet there wasn't a ton of people in the crew. They had created an indoor forest filled with snow, flowers, and black and white trees. There was even a lake. Zelena was surprised at how real it all looked.
"The theme is mother earth. This particular shoot will be for both my fashion and perfume line. The 'Mother Earth' collection." Jeffrey explains as he shows them around the set. "You will have three different looks. The last one we will take out into the world and film for the perfume ads."
"Sounds amazing."
"Zoe!" He shouts to no one in particular. "Get Zelena into her first look. And where are my other models?"
A short woman with graying brunette hair comes running out and toward Zelena. "Come miss. Let's get you in design."
Zelena takes a breath. She can't believe its all actually happening. This was her dream come true. For years she's been telling her family she was meant for so much more than they could ever see for her. Now she could show them. She was special. All of this wasn't for nothing. And Zelena plans to document it all. Naturally she knows she can't any of the photos that relate to anything about the shoot. They made her and Ruby sign all the paperwork on that. But that doesn't mean she can't save them for the day she can share them with the world. And she could still show her family.
She snapped a picture of the mirror she was sat in front of as the makeup artist put on her face. Ruby was sat next to her with her head in her phone. Marion was to her other side, mirroring her cousin. They sat in relative silence, that is until Ruby let out a dramatic gasp.
"What?" Marion was the one to ask. Zelena rolled her eyes. That girl is worse than her when it comes to gossip.
"Julian told me what Regina and Granny fought about." Ruby responds. She doesn't take her eyes off her phone still reading whatever she was sent.
"Well?" Zelena urges her cousin to spit it out.
Ruby clicks her phone off and looks up. "So apparently at some point Regina snuck a boy into Granny's garage overnight."
She, Marion, and even her makeup artist gasp. There's just no way. She knows Regina isn't perfect, but this seems so out of character for her. "Are you referring my sister, Regina? The one with a stick up her ass? No fun, goodie goodie Regina hid a boy in Granny's garage?"
"Regina can be fun." Ruby argues.
"Maybe a couple years ago." Zelena mumbles. The Regina Ruby remembered was fun. The Regina they have now is a stick in the mud.
Ruby rolls her eyes. "Anyway. Granny confronted Regina about it sometime earlier this week when she was apparently flirting with a boy at the diner. But get this. Regina told Granny it wasn't the same boy she hid in her garage. She said her and garage boy where just friends."
"No one is just friends with someone they hide in their grandparents' garage. Something else was going on." The makeup artist, whose name she learned was Marcello, added. He wasn't even pretending to do her makeup at this point. They were all fully invested in the story now.
"That's what the kitchen thought too!"
"Kitchen?" Comes Marion's voice from behind Zelena.
"This story takes place in a diner. That's what we call the staff." Zelena explains.
"Ok. I get it. Continue."
"This is where it gets really interesting." They all lean closer to Ruby. "So the diner boy from the day before comes back to flirt with Regina. He leaves at some point to go to the bathroom or something. While he is gone, garage boy shows up."
Marcello gasps. "No!"
"Yes! And Granny goes out to meet this boy. He must pass whatever test she put him through, cuz she comes back to the kitchen ready to make him her famous lasagna."
'Ten minutes to shoot!'
Someone calls from another room. The story is abruptly stopped. The group of them stand and prepare to move to the next thing. "Come. Let's get you dressed." Marcello guides Zelena to the changing area. "Ruby, what happened next?" He encourages her cousin to finish the story while he helps Zelena into her first look.
"Well, no saw it happen, but everyone could hear when it escalated from the kitchen." Ruby starts again. "Diner boy and garage boy get into it. They were yelling and fighting. Granny storms in banging two frying pans and kicks them all out. Regina too. Julian said it took them all afternoon to put the diner back in place."
"Damn. No wonder Granny was upset." Zelena says as she marvels at herself in the mirror. Her first look was a deep burgundy, off the shoulder puff sleeved dress that resembles ball gowns princess would wear in fairytales. It had a beaded, lace overlay with gold accents. It was absolutely gorgeous and Zelena couldn't believe how good she looked in it. Her sister and Granny completely forgotten.
"Hun you look fabulous!" Marcello claps. "Let me get a photo for my Instagram." She strikes a pose for him. If Zelena is going to be tagged in a post, she'll do so like a boss. "Oh, Jeffrey is going to have fun with you! You're a natural."
Zoe scurries to them. "They are ready for you on the set. Follow me, please." She is low spoken and shyer than people Zelena is used to meeting, but she can see this is not someone to be played with. All of the other models are already in their place when they get to the set. There is an empty space near the center that she knew was meant for her. The enchanted forest awaits for it's queen. Zelena takes a breath. This is the moment she's waited her entire life for. It's her time to shine!
Robin and Nottingham decided to meet in the parking lot of Granny's. It was a neutral place. It was nearing evening. The sky was beginning to darken and there weren't as many costumers in the parking lot. He could only assume there weren't many people in the diner as well. He just hopes Regina or her granny don't chase them off the property before they can make amends. For now, Robin waited in his car for Nottingham to show up. They needed to be a united front to truly show Regina heard what she was saying and were making an effort to redeem themselves.
Robin gets a call. He assumed it was Nottingham calling to explain his tardiness. It's from Gold. Shoot! He takes in a breath before answering. Play it cool Rob. "Mr. Gold, hi! Lovely for you to call. To what do I owe this pleasure?"
"I think you and I both know why I am calling." Comes the older man's disembodied voice. Yes, Robin knew why he called. He could only hope that Gold doesn't drop him from the movie. He needed this. They all needed this. "Look son, I'm glad to see you and Mr. Nottingham on the same side of something for once. I am. But what the hell is going on?"
"Sir I assure you; he and I are already on top of things. There's no need to worry."
"Be sure that you do Mr. Locksley. You cannot afford any slip ups." Gold promptly hangs up.
Robin sighs. "Yes sir." He says to his empty car. When did his life become such a mess? He wants to say it only happened recently, but he knows it's been a mess for a while. Maybe that's the price of fame? He knew what he was getting into when he decided this was the career he wanted. That doesn't make any of it any easier.
Robin is brought from his thoughts when Nottingham taps on his window. Great. Let's get this started. Now that he is face to face with him, Robin falters. He has never done anything like this before. He never wanted. He didn't think it was necessary. Now here they were.
Keith sighs tirelessly. "Look Locksley. Is there a reason you called me out here?"
"Yes. Yes, there is." Robin quickly assures him before he changes his mind and leaves. "I know we don't see eye to eye, but I was hoping we could at least be cordial. We both care for Roni and we both want this movie deal. I think it will be beneficial to the both of us if we put this feud behind us."
Nottingham chuckles. It rubs Robin the wrong way. But he speaks before Robin can tell him off. "It funny. I was actually thinking the same thing. Look Robin, I am sorry for the grief I gave you yesterday and every day before that."
Robin is taken back by that. He expected a lot of different reactions Nottingham could have, but never this. He apologized. Robin wasn't even going to do that. Well, of course he had to now. Wow. Ok. Ummm.
"Thanks. Seriously, thank you for that." He stutters around his words. "I want to apologize as well. We've both done things we aren't proud of. I know that I have and I'm sorry for any heartache I've bestowed upon you."
"Thank you Robin. That means a lot coming from you."
"I uh.. I wanted to um.." Robin struggles to have a normalized conversation with Nottingham. He should probably start calling him by his name. Nah. They weren't there yet. "I want repay Verónica's grandmother for the damage we did to her restaurant yesterday. I want to apologize to Roni in person, but I think it's best if we give her space."
The other teen nods. "I agree. We're just here for Granny. So how are we doing this? We writing a check? Cash?" Nottingham flips through his wallet while he speaks. The action rubs Robin the wrong way, but there technically nothing being done wrong. They do need to pay granny.
"Uh.. cash is fine I guess."
"Perfect." He sends a chilling smile in Robin's direction. Or maybe that's just how he smiles. Robin doesn't care. He knows he just doesn't like it. "Shall we then?"
The pair of them make their way towards the diner. Regina isn't at the register when they enter. Robin doesn't know whether he is relieved or disappointed. The guy who is at the counter, however recognizes them. Whether it's from the fight yesterday or fame, he isn't positive. Going off of the slight glare they are currently receiving, it's safe to assume the former.
"Hello. Could it be possible to speak with Granny?" Robin felt a tad ridiculous. He didn't know her actual name.
The cashier silently glared at them for a moment longer before rolling his eyes and walking to the back. To do what Robin hopes is getting Granny. The only thing that saves him from the boredom of waiting is the buzzing device in his pocket. He doesn't look at his phone when he answers it.
"Honeybun what's going on with you? I feel like we haven't talked in ages. And I see apologizing to that friend of yours on Instagram? Are you ok?"
"Marion? Right now isn't the best time." He turns slightly from Nottingham who is shaking his head at him.
"When is there ever a good time for you lately?"
Robin sighs. Marion has the worst timing as perusal. He is in the middle of trying to put his life back on track and Marion just isn't a big part of that. He knows he isn't being fair to her, but he really couldn't talk right now. He'll make it up to her later. Granny choose that moment to emerge from the back, followed closely by the register guy.
"I have to go. I'll call you back."
"Rob!.." Is all he hears before promptly hanging up.
Robin clears his throat before making the move to meet Granny half. "Ma'am we wanted to formally apologize for our behavior yesterday. The way we acted was unacceptable. We're sorry for-"
"Where is she? Is she with you?" The old woman cuts them off. She isn't looking all too kind either. She is clearly upset, but about what?
"Who?" Nottingham says, confusion evident on his face.
"Regina! My granddaughter!" She all but yells. Granny is in their personal space now. "If either of you have done something to her, I swear I'll kill you myself."
"I.. what? I'd never hurt Regina. I don't even know what you're going on about." Robin fumbles through his words. He wasn't prepared for her outburst.
She holds her glare for a minute before bursting into tears. Something else he wasn't expecting. Why was she crying. What the hell is going on? What does this have to do with Regina? Wait!
"Is.. Ma'am what's happened?" "Are you ok?" Comes Robin and Nottingham's simultaneous response.
Little did they know her next words would shift the tiny bit of calm they were able to create just moments ago. "Regina, she didn't come home yesterday. The last time I saw her was when she left with you two."
"I.. We.. uh.. The last time I saw her was shortly after we left yesterday."
"She refuses to talk to us." Nottingham adds.
"None of our friends have been able to contact her." Robin really hates where this is going. He has that sinking feeling deep in gut. Something bad was happening. Something really bad was happening and Robin couldn't help but feel like it was his fault. A shiver ran through his body like ice in his veins.
Granny let's out a sob. The register guy puts a supportive hand on her shoulder. He speaks. "So it's true then. Regina's missing."
His heart plummets.
K done! That's the end of the story! Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed. Lol. I'm kidding. But what a way to leave you all hanging. Sorry. I'll make up for it in the next chapter. Seriously though, I hope you've enjoyed! Let me know what you think. Stay safe, stay in good health!
